The tunnel to the east is soon filled with rubble, but you think with a little bit of climbing you can get past the worst and enter another cave to the south.
The western tunnel opens up after only some metres into a larger cave - you have to enter it to get a better look at it though.
Sebastian's quick scan does not show him any magical items.
Sable Eboncrow |
"The eastern path may be congested, but I'd still like to take a look in case they sneak around behind us. If someone would like to join me, we can scout that tunnel while the rest of the flock guards this open area before moving on."

Sure thing Bree.
Kabal was disappointed there wasnt any coin on the scrawny bastards but the gear mught be worth something.
Some of you slighter types should take a look at these chainshirts and such. Wont fit the likes of us brutish fellas.
He checked their backtrail and then focused on the tunnel to the west.

Sebastian DeGray |
As long as there is no immediate attack, if others can help, Sebastian will suggest. "Perhaps that Drow gear can be placed against the cave wall by the entrance for retrieval later if nobody can use it now. Got a chain shirt already, myself."
He then turns to Sable, "I can help Sable. I have a sharp eye if I can at least see into the next cave."
'Take 10' on climb for a '14' to at see into the next cave.
Can use Sift to do a detailed search from a distance. Take 10 and -5 for a '12'. If nothing bites his face while looking, AND if he has trouble seeing into the cave, he toss a Light pebble into the cave.
Winter Snow |
"Well it will no doubt find a buyer in Riddleport, and we can always use the coin"
Winter follows on, ready to re-engage the enemy he knows is out there...close...and waiting.
Hmmm those guys got lucky hits, maybe I shouldn't risk moving injured

Lucky? Pff...
The ever courageous Sebastian climbs over the rubble and looks into the southern room: This large chamber rises to a height of roughly thrity feet near the centre, where a very small hole acts as a natural skylight. Relatively quiet with the constant crash of the ocean muffled by solid stone, this cave seems an ideal lair. Moisture-slicked mildewing tapestries and animal pelts cover nearly every inch of the walls, indicating that at one time this chamber must have served ashome to some kind of creature.
As you move closer to the entrance you spot two humming runestones set into the ground right before the tunnel opens up into the cavern. They emanate a purple light and the runes look like wicked versions of elvish warding ones.
Caterine Gabor |
Caterine re-winds her whip so that it does not trail and foul her step. Remembering her intimidating blow, she double checks that the drow so struck is truly dead... by sticking it's own rapier through it's throat.
Suitably convinced she wipes the rapier off on the drow's clothing before securing it at her belt.

Kabal trusted Bree's instincts and if the lass said she heard something then she did. He stayed back with her as the others looked into the large southern chamber and continuously checked their backtrail.

Bree's fingers danced near the hilts of her two hidden knives as she explains I know I heard something back there Kabal.

Winters face looks a bit shocked and disapproving at Catarine as she sticks the rapier in the Drows neck. Words almost form on his lips, but then his expression moves to sombre acceptance and he says nothing.
The Aasimar turns his attention back to the tasks at hand.
Sebastian DeGray |
Sebastian whispers back, "Someone used to live back here. Looks abandoned but some magic stones are glowing."

Sebastian DeGray |
The temptation is almost palpable to Sebastian. Runestones...here? But he reluctantly shimmies back down the rubble pile. "Well I guess we can explore that when there aren't Dark Elves and Blue Lions trying to kill us. But I definitely want to come back and take some notes."
DM Zyren / Heart of Riddles |
Winter leads the way down the next tunnel and soon finds an intersection with corridors leading to the north and south.
As soon as you enter the intersection you feel a strange cold surrounding you, an old evil presence lurks here and it surely loathes the living ones!
As Winter enters the intersection you notice small black whirls of shadowy mist that seem to entangle Winter's feet!
Kabal Breven |
Will the drow armor fit Mercus? If so Kabal wouldve seen him outfitted.
Kabal spoke softly to Bree before returning to the front.
I believe you lass. You just let me know if you hear anything else.
...it would be just like those damn, dirty drow to spring on us from behind...

"Something old and evil dwells here my fellows be on guard and ready for attack by the otherworldy"
Winter brandishes his sword, ready for trouble...

Sebastian DeGray |
At the back of the line, Sebastian mentions to Sable, "Old and Evil. That might be what those runestones are holding in check....or protecting. Seems the Drow would like Old and Evil, unleashed....unless it is something even they cannot abide with, shiver the thought."
DM Zyren / Heart of Riddles |
As Winter shifts into the metamagic-spectrum, the black whirls withdraw, but the evil is still palpable for him. There is a strong evil presence in this room, but before he is able to communicate that, the whirls begin to culminate into a silhouette that soon becomes a solid form that makes you shiver!
A demon - no doubt. A creature hailing from the abyss summoned to this plane to guard this cave. Midnight-coloured claws and shadowy teeth that look like they can easily rend flesh and armour and eyes, blazing red like a comet.
Last wishes or Ini?

Hearing the sharp intake of breath from several of her companions, Bree spins around and heads to where the action seems to be happening. When her eyes land upon the shadowy form a barely audible, "Bloody hell." slips from her lips as she looks to Winter for guidance. Surely he has some idea of how to handle such a thing, knowledge given to him through his associations with Erastil.

Sebastian want to call out any Bardmojoknowledge? Suspect it is Planar.
Some weaknesses would be good to know.
Yes this thing is well beyond our horribly low WBL paygrade, thanks Adventure Paths for being so stingy - but we are gonna kill it anyway :)
Winter Snow |
Was going to give Bard-Boy a chance to yell out any weaknesses or main strengths before just wading in...! Be nice to get this fight 'right'.
