Esteriande d'Litran |

And here are our updated positions, I have put Marak just outside the door in 15:10 (he said she was moving up) with Naria behind him in 15:09 and Inikai behind her in 15:08.
Esteriande is confident with the wolf behind her and her balde lashes out at the masked man before her as she hears Romon being attacked.
"So now ze truth is revealed," she murmurs almost sadly as he dons hios mask and produces his razor, familiar to her from the Skinsaw Man's weapon.
Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31 Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Threat Confirm: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15 Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Romon |

Surprise Round.
Ali 24
Esteriande 21
Romon 19
Marak 18
'Not So Innocent Sawmill Workers' 13...acted
Muchorak 12
Inakai 10
Naria 8you may all act now as I assume those who went before the bad guys were holding an action.
Just reposting intiative. Thanks for the move, Wellard. I had figured that drawing the knife and going full defense was all I was going to get in the surprise round. Since I go before the bad men, I guess it doesn't matter anyway.
Look out! Marak has undergone mitosis! (on the map)
Rising smoothly to his feet after the roll, Romon lunges with his dagger at the Southern man.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 .. damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
crit confirm: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 .. damage 1d4 ⇒ 2
+2 more on those attacks if sneak attack applies. I wasn't sure if Esteriande counts as threatening the Southern man since she's engaged to her north.
Sneak attack damage, if applicable: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 6) = 15
Romon's lunge carries him so close to his opponent that he can hear the man's breath behind the mask. Looking over his opponents shoulder he sees Esteriande's blade dripping blood as it returns to her ready postion. He thinks he's in love.

Inikai |

Romon wrote:Look out! Marak has undergone mitosis! (on the map)I am the singularity! Woo! Oh wait, that's just Inikai, pretending he has my magnificent and luxurious mane of hair. :)

Surprise Round, Init 24
Ali AC21/25 vs AoO HP 66/66
Buffs: Barkskin
Lunas AC22 HP 49/49
Buffs: Barkskin, Magic Fang greater
Growling in savage battle fury Ali's razor sharp teeth lash out twice at the foe before her but she misjudges terribly and her teeth snap loudly on empty air.
Ali attacks:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 101d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
While Lunas, flanking his opponent with Romon, bites at his prey, his teeth finding flesh as he twists and attempts to take the two-legs down.
Attack:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20oops, that's 22, forgot flank
Damage:1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Trip:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25

DM Wellard |

All the man are wearing the strange Masks and wielding Warrazors.
Ali Misses with her bite but Lunas suceeds in sinking his teeth into the ankle of the Man in front off him and lands him on his back.Esteriande's blade lays her opponent low and then Romon stoops to finish off the man in 14.11( he gets another +2 for his opponent being prone which means the crit succeeded)
Suddenly half your enemies are down. The one in 11.12 slashes at Ali and the one in 12.09 moves to13.09 and attempts to strike esteriande..They don't appear to be particularly effective combatants however as both miss
Worker 31d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Worker 21d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

![]() |

If Marak can move into the room, and get out of Naria and Inikai's way, he will, unleashing his morningstar as he does at the man in 12.09.
hand of the acolyte powered morningstar attack, including +1 for bless 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
If he cannot enter the room, he unleashes his morningstar from the doorway (same target, same roll as above), and then steps back past Inikai after the morningstar floats back to his hand, allowing them to move forward, so that Naria, at least, will be able to take action on any visible foes.

Inikai |

Third time is a charm
Inikai's usually sharp reaction's are thrown off by the mad dash to get into the room. He stands still for a moment to assess the enemies and chooses a target 13.10 among the masked men. But when he sees that the others have not pressed the attack immediately he waits to see how the masked men respond.
If any of them attack he will target the one farthest away with Andras's power to make him attack an ally.
Target must make a Will save DC 17 or attack his nearest ally for one round.

DM Wellard |

So your repeating your surprise round action which required you to be able to see through walls..Ok
Inikai holds back allowing Naria to move to the door (15.10). Spotting a foe she unleashes her Magic Missiles and fells him.(13.09 is down)
Round 2
Ali 24
Esteriande 21
Romon 19
Marak 18
'Totally Guilty Sawmill Worker 4' 13
Muchorak 12
Inakai 10
Naria 8
I should point out these Masks are not like Aldern.s was, they look like a sack on which a strange lopsided face has been embroidered..it has only one 'eye'.

Esteriande d'Litran |

Starting positions, round three, ding-ding!
"You may wish to consider surrender, Monsieur!" Esteriande calls cheerfully to the remaining foe as she checks the two fallen before her; if they are alive she will secure their equipment (masks, war-razors, anything else she finds) and bind their wounds.
Heal on 13.09: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Heal on 14.08: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Romon |

One, two, three down.
Romon smiles and pivots on his heel while he flips the dagger into a throwing grip. He waits to see how the little werewolf fares before attempting a throw past her.
If she misses or does negligible damage:
dagger 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 .. 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Hopefully 13.09 gets eaten by machinery.

Ali AC21/25 vs AoO HP 66/66
Buffs: Barkskin
Lunas AC22 HP 49/49 (AC 20 with charge)
Buffs: Barkskin, Magic Fang greater
Aliwolf, dashes between her enemy's legs, attempting to get into position to provide flank for Lunas' attack. Once behind the two legs she lunges at his hamstrings.
Acrobatics:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Ali attacks:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 131d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Crit confirm:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Damage:1d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Meanwhile her den brother whirls, dashes through his packmates and leaps in a charging attack at Ali's foe, attempting to take him down.
Attack:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Damage:1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Trip:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15

Romon |

Romon would definitely try the throw past Ali's pet dog.
I'll roll again, because it wouldn't be fair to say that knowing the roll was good.
Thrown Dagger
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 .. damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

![]() |

Marak looks to his comrades, to see if any are in immediate need of healing, but does not join in the coordinated assault on the last man standing.
"Mind the machinery, it seems far more dangerous than the men..."

Inikai |

I was confused, thinking Inikai was already inside when I posted my last actions. No matter.
Inikai looks inside the room and sees that the lone man is nearly surrounded and two of his companions have been laid low. Since it seems that the others have the situation in hand he decides to act as a look-out on the stairs. Surely, the machinery has muffled the noise of the fight. Therefore, he only has to be wary of interlopers from outside. Every few moments he peeks in to check on his allies, though.

DM Wellard |

Ali and Lunas take the last man down and out off the fight.
All foes down and bleeding out.Esteriande's attempts at healing come to naught and she is unable to stem the blood gushing from the man she hit who then expires..However the man who Lunas and Romon dealt with is stable(at-3hp)
13.09 is indeed eaten by machinery

Inikai |

Inikai continues to watch outside to see if anyone takes interest in the building or exits from it. Unless he sees anyone after a few minutes watch, he will enter the room and close the door behind him. Assuming Muchorak and Ursus go in as well.

Romon |

Romon stoops and begins searching the two bodies closest to him. "This one's still alive." He leaves healing and interrogation to others more inclined.
Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Then he does a quick circuit of the room looking for anything unusual or out of the ordinary.
Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

Esteriande d'Litran |

"Good - keep 'im alive, we need to question 'im!" Esteriande declares. "Somebody, please reassure me Monsieur Muchaorak 'as not attempted to enter ze building above wizzout us," she adds, noting his absence as she makes her way over and uses a charge from her old wand of cure light wounds to revive the prisoner once he has been secured.
Cure Light Wounds (wand): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
"You 'ave two choices," she tells the revived man coolly. "You can face ze justice of ze city for your crimes as you are, or you can mitigate ze consequences of your actions in zis world by telling us everyzing zat you know - ze choice is yours."
It is no attempt to intimidate, merely a statement of fact.

DM Wellard |

Romon each of the cultists wears a hideous mask which resembles a patchwork deformed face, with one bulbous eye, a grimacing mouth of long teeth, and no noticeable nose. They each carry a Masterwork War Razor and have 20GP on thier person.
Your examination of the room shows up two levers one at each end off the long shaft driven by the wheels
Esteriande's prisoner looks up at her..and utters a long maniacal laugh. That is the only response you get from him.
I'm assuming Inikai will wander round the building to find Muchorak who hears nothing out off the ordinary.

Muchorak "Windstriker" |

Muchorak nods in understanding and replies in a whisper, "We should move quickly now or the enemy may become aware of our presence. I'll wait here by these doors, gather the others so we may be done with this place."

Inikai |

Knowing that it is difficult at best to get Muchorak to change his mind, Inikai heads down the steps to inform the others. When he gets downstairs he looks around before saying anything. He sees that there are no doors or stairs leading out of this room and this gives him some encouragement. There is no reason to linger here so they should not have any objections to moving on. he thinks to himself.
"This place is secured. Tie the prisoner to something and gag him. This way we can make our foray above. Muchorak is ready at the upper doors." All of this compromising makes me feel like a politician.
After saying this Inikai heads out the door and halfway up the stairs.

Esteriande d'Litran |

Esteriande nods, there is little more the prisoner can tell them.
"Secure 'im, Romon mon amis, we must be swift!"
She moves up the steps to join Muchorak at the other entrance.
"I take it you saw ze conditions too cramped for your style of sword-play," she greets him. "I confess, it was not to my liking eizer, but now we 'ave confirmed our fears we can strike 'ard."

Muchorak "Windstriker" |

Wellard do these doors open by handle or are they pushed? If by handle how sturdy are they, does it appear it would be a simple act to force them open?
The Shoanti looks at the foreign woman and nods; then speaks in whispers, "Too many in such a place can hurt us rather than benefit us."
If Romon moves up to the doors to open them Muchorak will gladly allow him the act of it and signal to him that he is ready.

Esteriande d'Litran |

"Oui, it was a little cramped," she grins.
"Now, we must plan: I recommend zat we stay as quiet as possible, and move swiftly as we may. Monsieur Romon is skilled at finding traps, let us wait for 'im and then proceed."

Muchorak "Windstriker" |

Thanks
Muchorak will wait for Romon so he can make sure the safety of the simple doors.
I'm thinking that Romon and perhaps Marak or Inikai can open the doors in unison while Est and Muchorak take up the immediate space as they are both opened?

Romon |

Romon finishes tying up the surviving worker downstairs. "Waste of good rope. You're lucky she's taken a shine to you and that I'm not a violent or vengeful man." He finishes by stuffing the man's mask in his mouth. Then he checks the loot in his pack and hurries after his friends.
***
Catching up at the doors he gives them a quick once over.
Perception, traps 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (6) + 14 = 20
If they're clean, he'll go with Muchorak's plan. For once kick the door in seems like the best policy to the rogue.
If they're not clean, disable device, 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22. Then we'll try Muchorak's plan.

DM Wellard |

The doors are untrapped and you swing them open to reveal the ground floor
The entirety of this first floor consists of a loading area. An opening in the ceiling into the floor above is filled with a tangle of ropes and slings for lowering timber. Nearby, a flight of stairs ascends to the next floor. Two sturdy wagons sit to the south, next to a bank of machinery accessed by four low doors; the grinding and creaking of the machinery fills the room.
There is nobody present here.

Esteriande d'Litran |

Esteriande raises a finger to her lips, then points to the hole in the ceiling and makes a warding gesture with a clear meaning: Keep silent, avoid going under the hole.
On silent feet she glides to the foot of the steps and peers up.
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Glancing back she beckons to Romon and Ali, and points to the low doors: Check they are clear.

At the reaction to the captive man to Esteriande's questioning, Marak mutters under his breath as he ponders, "These men have the fanaticism of a cult. What dark faith would require its own to hide their faces, so?"
Knowledge - religion, to see if he can think of a faith that suits these men and their behavior. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Muchorak "Windstriker" |

Muchorak prepares himself and his blades as Inikai and Romon grasp the door handles; as they are swung open the warrior steps through them and pauses with the lack of any visible advesaries.
He watches as Esteriande moves to the steps and motions for the southern doors to be examined...he takes in the room and moves to the far side avoiding the ceiling gaps to make sure there is nothing hidden on the otherside of the room...
Stealth 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

Unused to taking orders from anyone except her pack leader, Aliwolf looks first to Big Bear, to gauge his reaction. As he is not growling nor has his hackles raised the wild druid determines it is ok to proceed.
Padding on silent paws, Aliwolf moves into the room, motioning for Lunas to wait with the others. She lets her senses lead her, sniffing for sign of foes or any other dangers.
Stealth:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
Perception:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 (+10 for smell)
Not sure if I'm doing the new Scent right Wellard. It's +8 bonus for scent plus the +2 she gets as a Gnome?

Romon |

Esteriande raises a finger to her lips, then points to the hole in the ceiling and makes a warding gesture with a clear meaning: Keep silent, avoid going under the hole.
...
Romon frowns back and sticks out his tongue. Like you've got to tell me that. He does take a second to look the place over and draw his shortsword and dagger before gliding to the right (south) with his back to the wall.
Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
And once he hits some shadows, Stealth 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (5) + 17 = 22 just because he hasn't quick-stealthed in a while.

Romon |

Romon waves to attract the others' attention. He points at the ceiling then holds up his right hand, fingers on top extended straight out, thumb underneath also extended straight out and opens and pinches fingers and thumb together in a quick repeated motion, simultaneously opening and closing his mouth.

Muchorak "Windstriker" |

Muchorak nods his understanding of the rogues gestures then looks to Esteriande and the stairs; the silently moving the base of the stairs and if everyone signals their readiness he will lead the way up...
