Marak says, "Whatever we do, we should move in quickly, so as to avoid drawing even more attention than we surely are already."
Scent chat should probably go to OOC. We're on the docks. Ali probably can't smell anything useful out here over the full-bodied scent of dead fish seasoned with the delicate overtones of human waste. :)

Muchorak "Windstriker" |

Muchorak nods at Maraks comment, "Let us wait for what Romon discovers then. Just be ready to quickly send aid."
Muchorak will wait quietly, relying on his sense of hearing to detect a cry of help from their crafty friend...
Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

Romon |

As the old poor man intrudes on their conversation Muchorak turns, "No old one, we are not a safe choice for you to earn your coin this day."
Dude, I'm disguised as a robust young member of the working class coming to call for the load of lumber my master was supposed to receive yesterday. Not a bum at all. You Shoanti are so judgemental. :)
Lightning quick check for traps 34 rolled above and try the door at street level.

DM Wellard |

The door at street level is the double door round the back of the building. You are trying the door at what would be basement level
Romon tries the door and to his surprise finds it unlocked. He pushes it open a smidgen and the sound of working Machinery intensifies.
Ali
[spoiler]As Romon opens the door you get the strong smell of oil wafting out from it[/ooc]

Alisebett |

Aliwolf sneezes and shakes her head as a strong, and strange, smell assaults her sensitive nose. Whatever the smell is, it is not natural, and she does not like it.
Still though she pads closer to the door, concerned that this horrible odor may be harmful to her sneaky friend.

DM Wellard |

Remember your on a 25' long stairway that is only 5 feet wide and ends in a 5' landing.I know Romon is at the front with Esteriande and Muchorak behind him(Ursas behind Muchorak) I'll assume Ali will be next and allow Lunas to squeeze in beside her then Marak so he has everyone in bless range and Inikai and Naria at the top watching for anything that might be approaching

Muchorak "Windstriker" |

"This is not an ideal situation," Muchorak looks about gently patting Ursas to calm him, "Quickly into the room let us be off this staircase." To signal his readiness for what may lay ahead the Shoanti draws both of his blades.

DM Wellard |

You step through the door into a clanking whirring noisy room that fills the entire lower floor. In front off you(the grey area) is a mass of spinning cogs and moving machinery that looks..dangerous.4 large waterwheels drive a thick sheft that connects to the machiery with wide belts.More belts run up int the ceiling
4 men move around the room tending the machinery.
"One looks up and smiles.."You shouldn't be down here lad" he half shouts over the noise "It isn't safe down here". He begins to move towards you as does a second man from the north.
Workers in 14.12,14.06,11.12 and 09.09

Esteriande d'Litran |

Like this?
Hearing voices Esteriande tries to stay out of direct sight, watching and listening carefully.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23 Plus detect evil of course.

Romon |

Romon cups a hand over his ear and starts walking south toward the man. "I'm sorry I can't hear you! I'm here to pick up some lumber for my master!" He looks around the room. "Hey how does all this work?"
Wellard, any obvious routes upstairs? Is there a (somewhat) safe route through the machinery space across the room?
Perception, if needed: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25

Esteriande d'Litran |

Inikai |

Inikai sees the body language of those in the front of the line and he realizes that bloodshed is imminent. He draws his sword and advances as far as he can down the narrow staircase. Just to reassure himself he reaches into his own mind to feel the presence of Andras, the Gray Knight. Mentally, he detects the languid presence that shares his consciousness and coaxes his powers to come forward.
If we must fight in a cramped place full of spinning blades... He does not finish the thought.

Romon |

Romon still plays it cool. He's waiting for them to reply. And watching the fellow to the north from the corner of his eye. He doesn't want to get caught between two of them.
What about routes upstairs?

Alisebett |

Wellard I was thinking that Ali's scent evil should work basically the same as her scent ability. If there's evil there, she smells it. It's not something she has to do. My idea for it was along the same lines as how some animals seem to be able to sense which people are just bad seeds.
Growling deep in her throat as`she senses her companions reactions the small wolf prepares to leap forward and attack the first person which threatens her sneaky friend.

DM Wellard |

The two workers close in on Romon the one to the south seemingly missing the presence of Esteriande outside the door.
Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
"On your way Lad we have work to do" the man to the south says
Romon

Romon |

Wellard:
Bluff, being fat dumb and happy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Romon decides to try shocking a response from the man. "Can you tell me about the seven-pointed star?"
And what abour routes upstairs? are there any visible?

DM Wellard |

Tim did you read my answer to your last request for routes up stairs...the post four above this one? Yes you can go full defensive but if the bluff was to make them think you were not wary that failed miserably.
The man to the South smiles..it's not a pretty smile."Seven pointed star eh..GRAB 'IM"
The man behind tries to grapple with Romon but fails to get a hold of him
CMB vs DC18 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Southern Man on the other hand produces a nasty looking large bladed cutthroat razor and slashes at the inquisitive Rogue whilst drawing a hideous mask like hood over his own face. The Razor scores a line on Romon's black leather.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
The other two begin to move towrds the fight. Moving easily through the Machinery they arrive at 13.09 and 13.10 pulling on similar masks to the man in the south

Esteriande d'Litran |

As soon as she hears Romon ask about the seven pointed star, Esteriande is moving. She dives through the door, moving agilely through Romon's square to 13.09 to counter the oncoming brigand. If he's already there, she tries to bull rush him and knock him into 13.08.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Bull Rush Attempt: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
I think that's around three AoO's you could get there Wellard ... ouch!

Inikai |

When Inikai's turn comes:
The frenetic melee among the whirling machines momentarily throws off Inikai's usually sharp reaction time. He stands still for a moment to assess the enemies and chooses a target 13.10 among the masked men. He points and shouts "kill your friend" over the noise of the mill equipment.
Target must make a Will save DC 17 or attack his nearest ally for one round.

Romon |

Ooops. Missed the no doors post. Sorry. Hey is that mask like Foxglove's?
"Hey, that belonged to a good friend of mine!" Romon drops the disguise and draws his favorite knife.
How easily do they move through the machinery? And how dagerous does it look. Thinking about trying the Acrobat around or through Southern Man.

![]() |

Marak can't see a thing, so resorts to casting a bless spell and moving forward as soon as it is feasible to do so, attempting to get inside the mill. He unslings his morningstar, as part of that action.
+1 morale bonus to attack rolls and saves vs. fear for 5 minutes. I believe that Esteriande and Romon are out of range / line-of-effect, 'though.

Alisebett |

Ready for action Ali springs into the room, Lunas right behind her. Used to team work they dash to converge on the same foe, their agility helping them to bypass anyone in their way.
Ali Attack & damage:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 111d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 (+2 if flanking)
Lunas attack & damage:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 171d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 (+2 if flanking)
Trip attempt:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
Ali Acrobatics:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Lunas Acrobatics:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

DM Wellard |

Ok people there seems to be the usual confusion over the surprise round..please remember it allows only one action and that AoO's are not possible during it.
@Esteriande I'll consider your action an immediate interrupt on the bad guys which means your bull rush target becomes the man in 14.08. See my comments to Romon about entering the Machinery space
@Ali no attacks this round and please tell me which squares you and Lunas intended to end up in.
@ Romon the men seem totally at ease moving through the machinery.and it would count as difficult terrain and require a DC 15 Reflex save for each square moved through to prevent you being caught up in the belts and cogs and taking damage..
Marak..absolutely correct Romon, Esteriande and Ali would all be out of line of effect..
You may all revise your actions accordingly...this is another difficult fight..you can feel free to curse Mr Pett all you like.

Esteriande d'Litran |

@Esteriande I'll consider your action an immediate interrupt on the bad guys which means your bull rush target becomes the man in 14.08. See my comments to Romon about entering the Machinery space.
Understood, forgot that it's a partial action.
Revised: Esteriande darts through the door, her blade springing into her hand to forestall the man approaching Romon's rear.
"I really zink zat you should answer my friend's question - honestly," she warns them seriously, her blade held in a deceptively casual stance.
Don't think that bull rush can be done with a move through the door and around a corner on a partial action, and it isn't needed to create space anyway. Esteriande is in 14.09, armed and with Combat Expertise active (AC to 26).

Alisebett |

Yup. Also Forgot that. Ali will be in 10:12 and Lunas in 12:12 flanking the guy in between.
Surprise Round, Init 24
Ali AC21/25 vs AoO HP 66/66
Buffs: Barkskin
Lunas AC22 HP 49/49
Buffs: Barkskin, Magic Fang greater

Esteriande d'Litran |

Remember, if you go through the greyed out area it's difficult terrain (costs double to move through) and they have to make a DC15 Acrobatics check to avoid getting snared up in the machinery. If they don't they have to go through at least one hostile. Counting the squares from 15.08 I don't think Lunas can quite make it to 10:12 on a 50' move, and you will both get multiple AoOs.

Alisebett |

From what I can tell, only Ali would have to move through a threatened square and neither of them would have to move through the machinery. Of course it's certainly possible I'm wrong. But if an Acrobatics check is needed for Ali, here it is. Acro:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

DM Wellard |

Acrobatics to move through an enemy occupied square has a DC of opponents CMD+5.
You already rolled acrobatics so you move through the guy who struck at romon (he's at14.11 when he launches his attack. However any use of acrobatics counts the square as double movement so at best ali ends up in 12.12.Lunas fails to pass the first man.I need to know what Romon is doing to resolve this

Muchorak "Windstriker" |

Knowing the fighting space is limited and becoming more so as his companions rush into the building he decides on a more calmer action. The Shoanti returns to the top of the stairs his friend beside him...he turns his focus to the path that leads around this structure...
Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27 and instructs Ursus to look the other way; to be on gaurd 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 Plus scent

Alisebett |

Oops, missed that I'd already rolled that for her. But don't understand why Lunas has to pass through an occupied square. From 14:11 it's a diagonal move to 13:12, not passing through anyone's square, correct?

Esteriande d'Litran |

Oops, missed that I'd already rolled that for her. But don't understand why Lunas has to pass through an occupied square. From 14:11 it's a diagonal move to 13:12, not passing through anyone's square, correct?
Um, no, you can't do diagonal moves when there is an obstruction. For example, around the door, Esteriande had to move from 15.09 to 15.10, then 15.10 to 14.10, and 14.10 to 14.09. At no point could she go from 15.09 to 14.10, because if you think about it the wall was in the way of her moving out of 15.09 in any direction but to 15.10. It's the same with Lunas, the machinery presents an obstruction. Wellard might let you make the move with an acrobatics check to avoid getting snared in the machinery, but even then it's difficult terrain so it counts double anyway.

Inikai |

I will repost Inikai's actions from earlier. I had assumed that you wanted to know what we were doing after we entered the room.
Inikai's usually sharp reaction's are thrown off by the mad dash to get into the room. He stands still for a moment to assess the enemies and chooses a target 13.10 among the masked men. But when he sees that the others have not pressed the attack immediately he waits to see how the masked men respond.
If any of them attack he will target the one farthest away with Andras's power to make him attack an ally.
Target must make a Will save DC 17 or attack his nearest ally for one round.

DM Wellard |

Inikai doesn't have a LoS to the bad guys
Acrobatics1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
Romon throws himself forward at the man before him tumbling past and coming up with his knife in his hand.
