Tybus Elhezen |
Yeah, I charged and had a possible crit, too! Let's see if second time's as good.
Tybus charges, not wanting to lose the element of surprise, after charging his katana with his arcane strength.
Melee, charging: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 7 + 2 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Grrr....
Callomeleth |
When it becomes apparent that nobody else needs mystical assistance, Callomeleth casts the enchantment upon his bow. He then readies an arrow for when Kikonu appears. Once the large-nosed winged creature pops into existence, he lets the arrow fly.
Cast magic weapon on my bow.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
DM Shisumo |
Zaiobe also snaps a shot off at the yamabushi tengu as it appears.
Longbow shot: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23, damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 plus 1d6 ⇒ 2 fire.
Both Callomeleth's and Zaiobe's arrows find their marks. Kikonu jerks under the assault, and he swears at her in Minkaian, reaching for his own bow.
Zaiobe's initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Kikonu's initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Zaiobe laughs silently, seeing Kikonu raising his weapon, and she makes a mystic gesture. A whirling, multihued aura suddenly surrounds her, making it difficult to see the harpy herself within.
Anyone who beats Kikonu's initiative can take their next actions now.
Tybus Elhezen |
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
That's no way to talk to a lady, mate! Ye got the animal wrong, besides, Tybus calls out.
He then closes the distance rapidly, Song of Sparrows crackling with energy. With a two-handed grip, he brings the sword down on the creature.
Melee, charge: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 9 + 2 = 30
Damage: 1d8 + 9 + 4d6 ⇒ (6) + 9 + (1, 4, 6, 1) = 27
Confirm crit: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 9 + 2 = 27
Damage: 1d8 + 9 + 4d6 ⇒ (6) + 9 + (4, 4, 2, 1) = 26
Lamsfel |
Initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Lamsfel likewise charges the creature, knowing that he is most effective up close.
Aiming for a diagonal for future tactical options. If the creature's in the middle of a 3x3 grid, Lamsfel wants to be in the lower left assuming we approached from the bottom. Hope that makes sense.
Charge Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 2 = 14
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 3 = 9
DM Shisumo |
...(sigh) Sorry, dude. Between this guy and Markis' rakshasa issues...
Tybus' blade makes contact with Kikonu - and the crackling energy around the blade simply disappears. The yamabushi tengu has no chance to gloat about it, however, because the strike itself is deep and bloody, and the fiend staggers under the attack. He gets no respite either, as Lamsfel and Tristan deliver their own blows.
Gan gets an action still.
DM Shisumo |
Gan dashes past the yamabushi tengu and readies himself to strike at the fiend's exposed back. The fiend, badly wounded and only staying upright due to sheer fury, tries to focus his attention on channeling arcane energies without exposing himself to harm.
Attempting to use a spell-like ability defensively; the DC is 19. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Unfortunately, he cannot maintain his focus well enough to create the effect.
Zaiobe is holding her action, since she has no clear shot at the moment. You guys can all go now.
Gan Liang |
Your wanton destruction has caused the suffering of others, and now this suffering shall be delivered to you tenfold. Iro-Shu has weighed the evil in your heart and found you guilty--You cannot escape the judgment that awaits you.
As the dual-minded entity speaks, an intense glow surrounds him. Gan drops his spear, slashing at Kikonu with divine power.
Swift: Smite Evil
Full attack.
Bite /w guidance, smite, flanking, bless: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
Bite damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Claw 1 /w smite, flanking, bless: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22
Claw 1 damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Claw 2 /w smite, flanking, bless: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
Claw 2 damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Bite confirm: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22
Bite crit damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
If this thing is an outsider, which I believe it is, please add 2 damage to the bite (both regular damage and crit damage if the crit hits). All attacks ignore DR.
Tybus Elhezen |
Tybus twists his mouth in disappointment that his spell failed to bypass the creature's defenses, though partially mollified that his steel struck true. Setting himself from the reckless approach, he decides to keep up the martial assault.
Melee, flanking?: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 2 = 17
Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
DM Shisumo |
Tristan sidesteps and swings, but even wounded as he is, the fiend manages to avoid the attack. He is not so fortunate where Lamsfel is concerned, stumbling and staggering - and that leaves him unable to prevent Gan from literally ripping out his spine with the teeth of Woké Qing. Kikonu screams and falls, blood flying everywhere. Horribly, though, the wound begins to close even as you all stand over it, no matter how Gan savages the body.
Tybus, you want to change your action? Callomeleth, you have a clear line of sight to the body, and can even take a step to the right or left to get an angle that lacks cover.
Callomeleth |
Actually, that changes things.
As the yamabushi falls, Callomeleth rushes over to see how his friends fared. "That was easier than I expected it to be," the elf confesses, though he quickly notes that Kikonu still draws breath, even though Gan continues to shred the tengu's body. He turns to Zaiobe with a confused look upon his face. "How do we kill him? He refuses to die!"
DM Shisumo |
Gan lights his torch and sets the body aflame. In seconds the corpse is alight, and it is clear the unholy regeneration that kept the fiend alive has ceased.
Zaiobe nods in satisfaction, and she meets Callomeleth's eye, mouthing thank you in exaggerated form.
Then she turns and shoots Tybus in the back before launching herself into the skies.
Longbow attack on Tybus with the flaming arrow: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14, damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 plus 1d6 ⇒ 2 fire.
You guys can all take actions now. Zaiobe is roughly 110 feet away from you now; she flew basically 80 feet straight up.
Tybus Elhezen |
I think the appropriate saying here is, "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!" That shot hits my flat-footed armor class. I think this requires a ruling whether we were still in combat, or not. Was I hit?
Regardless, Tybus unslings his bow and sends an arrow at the traitorous harpy.
Ranged: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Callomeleth |
Spell Effects Active: shield, magic weapon, bless, Current AC: 22
Callomeleth narrows his eyes at Zaiobe, raising his bow to fire upon her. "I should have known," he says, loosing the shaft. "Anyone who would betray their lover would betray anyone."
Fire!!!
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
DM Shisumo |
You weren't hit, Tybus - I don't think any of you trusted her enough for this to come as a surprise, so I'm not ruling you as having been flat-footed. However, I should note that Zaiobe has entropic shield up, so all ranged attacks against her have a 20% miss chance.
Rolling for the shots already that could have hit:
Tristan: 1d100 ⇒ 80
Tybus: 1d100 ⇒ 63
Callomeleth: 1d100 ⇒ 1
The burning arrow skids off of Tybus' armor and flies past to land in the castle's courtyard. In response, Tybus and Tristan both send their own arrows arcing upward, and each proves more effective than Zaiobe's was, causing her to jerk in midair as she is struck. Callomeleth fires as well, but her magical protection manages to deflect that one, and the shaft spirals off into the air.
Lamsfel and Gan still have actions.
Gan Liang |
I think the appropriate saying here is, "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!"
I was thinking the same thing myself.
In point of fact, Kikonu was carrying a composite (+2) longbow and a quiver of arrows to go with it.
In that case,
Gan picks up the longbow from the ashes, imbuing an arrow with some of his power. He draws with a practiced hand and fires at the treacherous harpy.
Swift: Arcane Strike
5 ft move closer to Zaiobe.
Arrow shot, bless: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
DM Shisumo |
Gan's miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 91
Lamsfel and Gan also shoot up at the harpy, and her magic proves no more protection against them than it did against Tristan or Tybus. Seeming displeased by the apparently archer-skill among her onetime allies, she takes a longer moment to focus her shot before loosing again.
Two attacks, both at Tybus (if you want me to stop concentrating fire on you, dude, you need to stop doing the most damage).
Longbow shot #1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11, damage 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13 plus 1d6 ⇒ 1 fire.
Longbow shot #2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5, damage 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 plus 1d6 ⇒ 2 fire.
If anything, though, the attacks are even less effective than before, as the two arrows bury themselves in the dirt a few feet on either side of Tybus' boots.
You guys again.
Tybus Elhezen |
Those... would've hurt. I honestly don't know what to say. I suppose I should be flattered :)
Tybus gets a desparate, wide-eyed look as the flaming arrows streaked toward him, but were mercifully off-target. He sends another arrow at her, then looks around for some cover he could duck under within reach. Shisumo, anything?
Ranged (forgot bless last time): 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 1 = 9
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Miss: 1d100 ⇒ 91
