Chief's Will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13.

Lamsfel's right-hand blade strikes the goblin shaman, and this time he is rewarded by the appearance of blood as he strikes her. She cries out in pain, and her hair lashes out in response. Hair attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10, damage 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3. The attack isn't noticably more effective than it was the last time, though, and the shaman begins looking somewhat scared.

Next to her, the chief, compelled by Callomeleth's magic, drops to the ground. With some awkwardness, he tries to cast a spell defensively DC 16: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19; despite his position, though, he manages it, and he swings his katana - suddenly sparking as though it contained a tiny lightning bolt - at Gan. Katana attack using spellstrike, and including the -4 prone penalty: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5, damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 plus 2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7 electricity. The effect is more comical than anything, though, and Gan doesn't even have to move in order to avoid the strike. The sword continues to spark, however.

The wolf takes it upon itself to try to attack Gan as well, not needing to be told. Bite 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22, damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 plus trip attempt 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8.

You can take your actions. The chief is still prone, and the map has been updated here and on the campaign page.

Male Human Summoner (Synthesist) 1/ Paladin 2

Free action, give one of Gan's HPs so the eidolon doesn't get dismissed. I was at 7 temp (eidolon) and 15/17 (Gan), so now I should be at 1 temp (eidolon), 14/17 (Gan). AC should be 18 with mage armor and size adjustment.

Gan strikes at the dangerous goblin again, thankful for the cleric's aid in the desperate fight.

Full attack, all attacks on male goblin unless he drops unconscious, then I'll switch to the wolf. First is the bite, flank, size, vs prone AC 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

First claw 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

Damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Second claw 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

Damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

28/28 hp

Relieved to see he drew blood, Lamsfel says, "Surrender! We have no need of your death! Despite his words, he offers no quarter, continuing his attack on the one he can reach. After all, he thinks, she may not understand, anyway, and won't stop unless I force her to.

Attack with TWF and flank: 1d20 + 5 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 5 - 2 + 2 = 20
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Attack with TWF and flank: 1d20 + 5 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 5 - 2 + 2 = 9
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Actually, I think you're at AC 19 - don't forget enlarge person penalizes your Dex as well, but Callomeleth has his protective aura up, which adds a +2 deflection bonus to the mix.

Two of Gan's blows strike home this time, but the chief, although wounded, doesn't seem to feel it overmuch. Likewise, while one of Lamsfel's daggers gets through to slash at the goblin shaman, she is only slightly wounded by the attack.

Gan:
[ooc]The chief is about to provoke an AoO, I think, unless Callomeleth does something really unexpected, so you might as well go ahead and roll it while we wait for Callomeleth to take his action.

Male Human Summoner (Synthesist) 1/ Paladin 2

Yep, missed that about the Dex, and I wasn't sure how long the aura lasted. Thanks!

DM Shisumo:
AoO, bite 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Current HP: 11/21, Strength Damage: 2 Channels Remaining: 3

Still unable to move into the room, Callomeleth lays a hand on the Gan-thing, and lifts his voice to the heavens. "GAN! Aa-aaah! He'll save every one of us!"

Mechanics:

No real spells that will help right now, so I'll use one of my daily allotments of Touch of Good on Gan. He basically gets +1 to all d20 rolls for the next round.

The chief assumes a defensive stance and rises to his feet. Gan takes the opportunity to snap at him with jaws like a shark's, but they catch only air.

Looking around with desperation, the goblin shaman begins casting a spell as well, and Lamsfel sees her defenses drop as she does so. Lamsfel, she's casting without going defensive, so you get an AoO.

28/28 hp

Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 2 = 11 Does the TWF penalty apply for the entire round? I did not include it.

Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

It doesn't, but with that roll it's irrelevant anyway.

The shaman completes her incantation, and she and he chief both stand straighter as they prepare to renew their assaults.

Spellcraft, DC 16:
She just cast an arcane version of bless.

You can take your actions again. As a reminder, the chief took the full defense action, so he's going to be extremely hard to hit this round...

Male Human Summoner (Synthesist) 1/ Paladin 2

Spellcraft 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

28/28 hp

Continue the attack.

Attack with TWF and flank: 1d20 + 5 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 5 - 2 + 2 = 8
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Attack with TWF and flank: 1d20 + 5 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 5 - 2 + 2 = 6
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

I'm trying to lull her into a false sense of security, can you tell? Do you think it is working?

Current HP: 11/21, Strength Damage: 2 Channels Remaining: 3

Callomeleth continues singing, as the powers of the Heavens bolster his strikes.

Mechanics:

Same as last round, Touch of Good on Gan.

I see, you're just stalling until Tristan and I can rejoin the fight!

Male Human Summoner (Synthesist) 1/ Paladin 2

Yeah, I feel your pain on the rolls, Lamsfel. Hopefully we can hang in here for a couple more rounds until the cavalry arrives (or, technically, wakes up from unconciousness/blinding/stunning, hehe)

She's casting a divine blessing, but, different somehow. I haven't seen magic like this...

Gan presses the attack (on the male goblin first, then the shaman if he's dropped)

Bite attack, flanking, size, touch of good 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 Damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Claw attack, flanking, size, touch of good 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 Damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Claw attack, flanking, size, touch of good 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 Damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Lamsfel wrote:

Well, it's working on me, so...

Gan's teeth catch only air, but both his claws manage to rend the chief's flesh, and the goblin staggers, pale and in agony. He looks around for a moment, and the tip of his sparking katana droops, but when his gaze falls on the shaman, he sets his jaw and shouts something at her in Minkaian. Sadly, the only person who speaks it is not in a position to hear. She looks at him, then worriedly at Lamsfel and Gan, before producing a wand from her stained and tattered robes. She reaches out and touches him with it, and his wounds start to close. He heals 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 hit points.

Once he has been healed, he turns his attention back to Gan, swinging his blade. Attack, using spell combat 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22, damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 plus 2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9 electricity. As Gan falls, the chief casts another spell, looking extremely satisfied with himself. The wolf growls, but doesn't attack anyone else, now that its opponent has fallen.

Spellcraft, DC 16:
He just cast shield.

Callomeleth and Lamsfel, it's down to you.

What a difference 1 hp makes...

28/28 hp

I don't even know whose hit point you are referring to, but I have to agree.

Lamsfel warily looks at the battlefield and three of his allies down and vulnerable. His blades continue to flash as he considers the situation.

Delaying his action briefly to see what Callomeleth might have up his sleeve.

Lamsfel wrote:

The chief's - 1 hp less, or 1 point of damage more, and he'd've fallen outright; instead, he was just staggered until he got healed.

Current HP: 11/21, Strength Damage: 2 Channels Remaining: 3

The elf blinks as a tremendous flash of light blinds him for a moment. When he regains his vision, his heart leaps into his throat - the Gan-thing had fallen, leaving only him and Lamsfel standing. This was not how it was supposed to go. These were the Heroes of Sandpoint, the men who had triumphed over the goblins of Thistletop...and two vermin were proving to be more than a match.

"Not this day!", Callomeleth cried. "Rose protect me!" He casts another spell, and a multicolored disk of force appeared before him. "Deal with the witch, Lamsfel! I shall avenge Gan!" Gripping his glaive tightly, he stepped up to engage the chieftain and his sparking sword.

Mechanics:

I believe I'm still not in a threatened area for the moment, so I'll cast Shield on myself. Between my Deflection Aura and this, I have an AC of 24. I can't see the map at the moment - it's disappearing as soon as it brings it up, so move me so that I'm within melee range of the chief. If I can get a higher ground bonus by standing on Gan, I'll do it. ;-P

28/28 hp

Like the elf said, continue the attack.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

I have been neglecting this, but thanks to Suppressing Attack, she will enjoy a -1 to her attack this round.

Callomeleth wrote:

Dammit, I was hoping that was just me. I'll see if the new version works any better.

Callomeleth wrote:

That's too funny for me to say no to... :D While he's clambering around up there, though, I need a stabilization check from Gan.

Callomeleth scrambles onto the unconscious form of Gan, who is himself lying atop of the still-enspelled forms of Tristan and Tybus. At the same time, Lamsfel stabs the goblin witch, who screams and drops to her knees, her hair forming a protective barrier around her. "Enough!" she cries in scratchy Common. "No more, please, honored longshanks!"

The chief looks furious at this betrayal, and attempts to cast another spell defensively. Concentration check, DC 15: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28. Although the goblin magus is able to maintain a defensive posture during the incantation, he exposes himself to attack from Callomeleth as a gob of acid appears in his left hand and he prepares to throw it. Callomeleth gets an AoO from the ranged attack occuring in his threatened area.

I can't seem to get the map image to stop vanishing, though if you download it you can see it fine. Looks like it might be time to switch to Photobucket after all...

Male Human Summoner (Synthesist) 1/ Paladin 2

Take 'em down, guys! ;-) So I think stabilization is just a con check, right?

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12

Gan Liang wrote:

Yes, at DC 10, but the Con check suffers a penalty equal to your current negative hit points, and I believe you were at -3 hp. So you failed by 1, and lose another hp.

EDIT: Actually, with you unconscious, your eidolon has been banished, so your Con check should have been made at Gan's +0 modifier.

28/28 hp

Lamsfel points at the chief with his second dagger as he replies, "If he stops. No one needs to die here."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Sadly, I have decent (and better) Bluff and Intimidate bonuses, but that's not really what I had in mind.

Current HP: 11/21, Strength Damage: 2 Channels Remaining: 3

Oh, so the summoned thingee goes away when Gan's knocked out? So much for higher ground bonus. As for a peaceful end...

Callomeleth spins his polearm, bringing the broad blade to bear against the goblin chieftain, taking advantage of the opening granted by the chief's spellcasting.

Mechanics:

Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Damage: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

The eidolon is not why Gan's big - that's the result of his enlarge person spell. But with that roll, it's largely irrelevant.

Callomeleth's glaive catches only air, and the chief hurls his acid ball at the witch. Attack roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20, damage 1d3 ⇒ 3. The acid sears her face and white hair, and the chief turns his attention back to Callomeleth as he too climbs up onto Gan, waving his blade. With a flick of his hand, he signals his wolf - the beast climbs up onto Gan's body as well, and snaps its jaws at the elf. Bite attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16, damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 plus trip attempt 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8.

New battle map.

You guys are up again. Gan, I need another stabilization check - you are, I believe, at -4 hp now. Lamsfel, the witch is now acting as an ally for the purposes of determining where you can move, although she won't provide a flanking bonus.

28/28 hp

With some misgivings, Lamsfel moves past the witch to flank the chief.

Touche' attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 2 = 13 The attack resolves as a touch attack.

Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Probably not enough, drat it.

That move will provoke... just confirming?

28/28 hp

Bah, I was thinking it was a 5' move - forgot about stepping around the corner. Yes, he'll make the move. He can't retreat now...

Male Human Summoner (Synthesist) 1/ Paladin 2

I'm trying to figure out how I calculated my HP. If I have 14 as Gan and my Con is 2 higher in the fused form, shouldn't that give me 2 more HP in fused form instead of 3 more? My sheet says 17 in fused form, but I think it should be 16, so I think I'm actually one lower than your total. Also, my Con is now lower, so does that mean I am an additional 2 lower in the negatives? If so, I could be dead VERY soon.

Stabilize 1d20 ⇒ 13

28/28 hp

My opinion:
Unless you have a special feature that gives you an extra hp in fused form, I would think that your fused hp would be 16. Damage is damage - look at your total hit points and the total damage you have sustained. Subtract the damage from the hit points and that's where your current total should be. In other words, yeah, I think when you lost those two points from the higher CON, your current total went down two more.

Ouch, yes. I think that, plus your failed stabilization check, means you're at -7 now after the check.

By the way, I haven't resolved the chief's AoO yet because I'm waiting for Callomeleth's action; technically he is not currently providing a flank for Lamsfel because of how reach weapons work, and while I assume he will move so that he is providing a flank before Lamsfel goes, that means whatever else he does on his turn also needs to happen before Lamsfel's action and the subsequent AoO as well.

Male Human Summoner (Synthesist) 1/ Paladin 2

Psst, Cal, don't let me die. Channel energy doesn't provoke AoO, just sayin' ;-)

28/28 hp

He does not have selective channeling or I suspect he would have done it long ago. A 5' step back provides Lamsfel with the flank and puts him in position to cast a cure on Gan, so there's still hope for you.

Current HP: 11/21, Strength Damage: 2 Channels Remaining: 3

Callomeleth's eyes grow wide with indignation as the chieftain attempts to silence the witch before she can speak. Part of him wants to strike down the disgusting creature, but a pitifully weak moan from Gan as three souls fight for their lives atop his mystically increased form makes him reconsider. He retreats back to the spot where he spent the early portion of the fight, and kneels down briefly to heal the old man.

"Not yet, Hero. Ameiko would have my head if I let anything happen to you...and Shalelu would probably have something to say about my unmentionables afore that."

Mechanics:

Step back to C1, and cast Stabilize. I'm out of 1st level spells, so no spontaneous cures are coming.

Male Human Summoner (Synthesist) 1/ Paladin 2

Thanks! So glad you had the foresight to memorize stabilize

Current HP: 11/21, Strength Damage: 2 Channels Remaining: 3

No problem! There's not a lot of great 0 level spells, honestly, and it's almost a necessity, dice being what they are.

Callomeleth ends Gan's blood loss with a quick spell before readying his weapon again, and Lamsfel tries to take advantage. As he does so, though, the chief lashes out as well with his katana. Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27, damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5; crit confirm 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9, 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5.

The slash draws blood, and only a quick jerk away keeps the blade from finding Lamsfel's throat. The witch looks up, clutching at her burned face, and frowns, and something seems to sweep over the elf. He stabs out with his dagger, and despite all the chief's protections, somehow manages to find a way through them to sink the blade in. The chief staggers again, and shouts again at the witch, who angrily shakes her head. He looks horrified, then makes a desperate attack at Lamsfel once again. Katana attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9, damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7.

You guys are up again.

28/28 hp

What was that!? Deciding he will worry about his dagger's suddenly attacking of its own volition later, Lamsfel tries to take out the chief.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 2 = 11 Including flank
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

If he hits, the chief will take a -1 to attacks until Lamsfel's next turn thanks to Suppressing Attack.

EDIT: Guess that's not likely to matter.

To clarify, the dagger attack in my description was Lamsfel's touche attack from before, placed into the proper spot in the timeline. As for what happened with the witch... well, let's just say that Lamsfel and Callomeleth are now blessed with a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and saves against fear, and the chief is no longer experiencing such benefits.

28/28 hp

Ah! Thanks for clarifying!

Current HP: 11/21, Strength Damage: 2 Channels Remaining: 3

"Enough of this!" Callomeleth shouts, the indignation clear in his voice. "Get him, Lamsfel!" The elf uses the length of his polearm to stay away from the goblin's blade, but rather than slashing at him with the blade, he sweeps it across the floor, hoping to send the chief to the ground again.

Mechanics:

Sweep the leg, Johnny!
Trip: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Just checking in to say that the holidays have run me over, so I'll be picking this up again on Wednesday morning. Until then, I hope everyone has a lovely couple of days, including a merry Christmas if that is something you celebrate!

28/28 hp

Merry Christmas, all!

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Will be away on vacation until New Year's Day. Please bot Tristan should he wake up. And Happy New Year to you all.

The chief parries Callomeleth's clumsy trip attempt and Lamsfel's equally awkward dagger strike, but he is clearly tiring himself. Shouting angrily at the witch, who continues to cower in the corner while staring furiously at him and shaking her head, the chief throws down his blade and bows deeply to the two remaining conscious warriors. He looks even more frustrated than goblins usually do, but there is a strange formality to his surrender. He says something else in Minkaian as well, looking both angry and expectant as he turns his gaze first on Callomeleth and then on Lamsfel.

End of combat. 280 XP for each of you, plus my apologies for a terribly un-fun combat...

28/28 hp

Hey, any you can walk away from....

Lamsfel watches the chief warily, glancing at Callomeleth for his reaction. When it's clear that he's surrendering and not planning a trick of some sort, the elf relaxes and bows formally in return.

"I fear I do not understand this language, great chief. You fight well and honor yourself." He moves to the chief's blade, picking it up respectfully and moving it to the throne where he lays it across the seat.

Turning to the witch, he adds, "My apologies for your injuries, I hope you can forgive me. Are you able to awaken my friends?"

If we are at a standoff due to language barrier, Lamsfel will motion the former combatants to sit with him while they await the fading of the magical effects that took the others out of the fight. I'm not sure what the appropriate skill is to communicate in this situation - bluff?

Bluff to communicate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
