DM Shisumo |
Okay, I got half the map done. It's right here, or on the campaign info tab. The tower you are in is at R-T/3-5. I need Stealth checks from the archers, please.
DM Shisumo |
Group #1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Group #2: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Group #3: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
The four archers move carefully along the top of the wall until they reach their positions. Staying low, they creep out, set themselves, and draw back their bowstrings, sighting down on their targets... and then Tybus' finger slips on his string, cutting his finger and causing him to give a startled yelp. Five of the corbies in the courtyard look up, seeing not only the magus but all four of his companions as well.
The group that managed to fail the roll is the pair at N24 and 024. There is a surprise round, though, because they did.
Group #1 initiatives: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Group #2 initiatives: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
As Lamsfel noted, your initiatives are all nicely bunched together, so the largest group, the one with three members, reacts before you can take your actions.
Seeing themselves exposed in the middle of the yard, the three corbies in the courtyard's center dash toward the gatehouse, disappearing inside of it.
You guys are up.
Callomeleth |
I'd say something about Perception tests having a penalty over long distances, but, well, they rolled amazing, and Tybus crapped out. I'm going to assume we don't have a good angle on the eastern group. Therefore...
Callomeleth looses an arrow at one of the western pair of crebain, already pulling a replacement as the first is in the air.
Attacking what I believe to be E11, the corby most southeasterly of the western pair.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Lamsfel |
Lamsfel winces as Tybus yelps, no doubt startling the dire corbies. Peering over with his bow, he sees one group disappearing and another standing still in that momentary shock of discovery. As the others let fly their arrows, the elf swings his aim to match and lets his missile join the flight.
I can only see the preview of the map again, so anyone that wishes to specify my target is welcome to do so. Otherwise, I'm aiming for A wounded but upright specimen of the dire corby race.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
DM Shisumo |
Trust me, I'm keeping the distance modifiers to Perception checks in mind - they're the only reason why N24 and O24 failed their rolls.
Both of Tristan's arrows miss, but the other three find their target, and one of the corbies has already fallen. Its fellow, stunned for a second by the unexpected attack, dives for the cover of the stable, then peeks around the corner to spot the attackers. It moves to B8.
Initiatives for Group #3: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Suddenly, the door of the tower on the western end of the gatehouse bursts open, and the group of three corbies appears there, just a few feet away from Lamsfel.
Second map up now, either by clicking here or using the link on the Campaign Info tab. You guys can all act again before the corbies get to go. Lamsfel, I believe I have sorted out the map issue again; forgot to use my workaround last time. You should be good now.
Lamsfel |
"Too many blasted ladders, I knew I had forgotten something."
Assuming the walkway is 5' wide as it appears, Lamsfel will drop/toss his bow in the general direction of Gan, draw a pair of wakizashi, and bow to the dire corbies before stepping up to, but not into the doorway so the first creature has to stand in the doorway to reach the bladeslinger. He crouches (so the others have a round of missile fire) and readies an action to stand up when that corby approaches.
The map works on my phone, which I forget when I'm at the computer. My laptop has some software that jacks with the site when viewing posts entered like most people. Thanks for accommodating it.
Lamsfel |
Map works, thanks. Looking at it, I think I misunderstood our battleground. Is there another second-level access into the tower where Gan is standing? I thought each tower had one exit to the wall and one floor trapdoor, so two choke points were all we had to concern ourselves with. If we have another exit to the wall, we need to move a defender (probably two) to the other side of the tower before Gan gets overrun.
Callomeleth |
"And here they come!", Callomeleth cries as the crebain begin to swarm them. Rather than fire again, he holds his holy symbol aloft and sings a song to the Heavens. A soft light red glow emanates from him, and he smiles to the sky in thanks. "The Rose will protect us, just stay close if you can!"
Using my deflection aura ability to create a 20' spread. All allies within it get a +2 to AC and CMD.
Lamsfel |
There are three of them on the other side of Lamsfel, on the same level as our party but at the opposite end of the party from Tristan's position. Those dire corbies on the ground have all gone to cover, I believe. There appears to be a third way into Gan's tower that is not defended. I just don't know if it's a route the dire corbies can use to enter and threaten Gan. I see two obvious choices for Tristan: 1) fire over the crouching Lamsfel and past Callomeleth and Tybus at the three dire corbies threatening the party, or 2) move across the tower to the other entrance and prepare to open fire on incoming dire corbies before engaging them with the greatsword. I suggest the latter - I think we may be retreating into the tower shortly and it would put you in position.
Tristan Tarrascon |
The latter is what I'm going for too. I'd love the cinematics of jumping over Lamsfel to cleave at the incoming corbies, but I don't see that happening. Shooting past you all is far too much cover.
Tristan will move past Gan to shoot at any approaching corbies. Move to ?4 (can't see the letters) and ready action to fire at any corbie approaching.
DM Shisumo |
Tybus' shot goes high as he tries avoid shooting Callomeleth in the back, while Tristan moves to the other side of the tower in case a flanking attack occurs from that direction.
Down in the courtyard, the corby lurking behind the stables moves out and starts sprinting toward the wall. That triggers Tristan's readied attack. Go ahead and shoot, Tristan. Similarly, the corbies near the eastern garden run up to the wall of the gatehouse and simply climb up it to the gatehouse roof, forgoing the niceties of ladders.
Seeing the bottleneck, the nearest corby actually moves to the outside of the wall and begins crawling down it and sideways, trying to circumvent Lamsfel's blockade entirely. A second corby does the same thing on the other side, while the third rushes forward, leaping high into the air in a full-on charge.
The corbies can take 10 on their Climb checks even when threatened, so they can move along the walls at their climb speed. The wall is 15 feet high, so they climb down five feet before moving sideways toward the tower, keeping out of Lamsfel's reach. Lamsfel's readied action to stand up hits when the final corby charges, so he is upright and suffering no AC penalties for its attack.
Acrobatics check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
The corby lands a little off-balance, though, so it can only swipe at Lamsfel with one claw.
Claw attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12, damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
You guys are up, except for Tristan, because his triggered action basically becomes his action this turn.
Tybus Elhezen |
Tybus nocks another arrow and shoots at one of the corbies climbing up the wall. Okay, maybe this wasn't the best idea! I didn't know they could climb like this!
Ranged: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
After loosing the arrow, he drops the bow and draws Song of Sparrows.
Lamsfel |
Without looking back, "Aye! If I had known, I would have re-thought my block here!"
Full attack, both swords, of course.
Primary, MW wakizashi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Secondary, magic wakizashi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Thanks to suppressing attack, my target takes a -1 until my turn.
Callomeleth |
"Aye, this ambush was not the most well-thought out! We've no place to run to! Stand and fight, my friends!" Callomeleth pulls another arrow and fires at one of the crebain climbing up the wall, then shoulders his bow, preparing to pull his glaive and enter the melee.
Firing at one of the wounded corbies climbing after us.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
DM Shisumo |
Callomeleth's arrow joins Tybus' in one of the corbies, and it falls off the wall, mortally wounded. Tristan's arrow also finds its mark, but the corby doesn't slow its approach. Gan sees one still alive below him and stabs, but the corby seems quite comfortable dodging attacks while climbing, and has no difficulty avoiding the blow.
The remaining corbies continue their advances. The ones furthest away rush across the gatehouse roof, readying themselves to attack or begin climbing across the walls as well, while the nearer ones move to attack.
Lamsfel's dance partner attacks him with both claws. Claw #1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11, damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3; claw #2 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16, damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3.
Tristan's target climbs the wall and slashes at him with a claw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11, damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
The other wall-climbing corby, seeing Gan above him, climbs upward, provoking an AoO as it exits Gan's threatened area. Once it reaches the top of the wall, it grabs for him, attempting to pull him off the wall - this also provokes from Gan's bite attack, but since he doesn't have Combat Reflexes, he only gets to take one shot at the corby. Corby's trip attempt: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Lamsfel |
"The dance continues! There will be no running, but we could retreat to limit their angles of attack. If you do so, I will follow!"
Full attack, both swords.
Primary, MW wakizashi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Secondary, magic wakizashi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Thanks to Suppressing Attack, my target takes a -1 until my turn.
Tybus Elhezen |
I'm going by the map, which looks like I'm almost flanked. Let me know if I'm interpreting it right.
Well, they don't seem to have the sense to wait for us to get in a better position. I guess we'll make do.
Tybus switches to a one-handed grip and gestures with his off hand while reciting arcane words. Then he slashes with the blade at the corbie coming at him from the interior of the castle.
Concentration DC 17: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17 Casting chill touch. Fort save DC 13 or take 1 Strength damage.
Melee, spell strike: 1d20 + 6 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 - 2 - 2 = 7
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 plus 1d6 ⇒ 5
Melee: 1d20 + 6 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 6 - 2 - 2 = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 plus 1d6 ⇒ 2
Gan Liang |
AoO with spear: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
AoO damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Gan channels more power into his weapon, trying to knock his foe off the building with the butt of his spear.
Swift: Arcane Strike
Bullrush vs CMD, provokes: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Callomeleth |
Callomeleth finishes freeing his glaive and thrusting it at one of the crebain swarming up to Tybus. The thrusts aren't to damage, but to distract, setting Tybus up to land a death blow.
Attacking one of the corbies on Tybus to assist him, granting him a +2 to his attack.
Aid: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
DM Shisumo |
Three strikes from Lamsfel's swords turn out to be enough to drop his current foe, while Tybus' spell-charged blade cuts a second one, sending a mystic necrosis through its flesh. Fort save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8. As a side note, Tybus, your first attack missed, so you still have two more attacks with chill touch available. Gan cannot seem to connect with his spear, but his attempts to knock Tybus' target off the wall leave him open to a counterstrike from the corby's claws. AoO from the corby: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8, damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 Wrapped in the aura of Woke Qing, however, Gan is as nimble as his foe, easily avoiding the awkward blow.
Tristan still has an action.
DM Shisumo |
Tristan's massive blade finishes off that corby as well, leaving only three of them alive. The one being targeted by Gan and Tybus decides to move on around the tower in search of an easier access - it moves quickly across the wall, climbing up in front of Tristan instead. Using the withdraw action, the corby avoids any AoOs - although deciding to confront Tristan instead is not necessarily a better situation for it...
The other two atop the gatehouse join in the fight. One charges Lamsfel, leaping into the air first in the characteristic way the dire corbies have. Acrobatics to jump: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11; claw attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20, damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
The other runs to the wall, climbs down and across it, coming up on Callomeleth's flank and slashing at him with a claw. Claw attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19, damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
You guys are up. Map updated.
Lamsfel |
Did that poor jump roll do anything - grant me an AoO, cause him to misfire on his attack, something fun like that?
Full attack, both swords.
Primary, MW wakizashi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Secondary, magic wakizashi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Thanks to Suppressing Attack, my target takes a -1 to attack until my turn.
Callomeleth |
Callomeleth winces as the crebain's claw scrapes against his armor, causing a horrible shrieking sound. Fortunately, the soft red aura coming from him protected him from harm. He frowned as he realized he was too close to use his glaive effectively, and dropped his weapon, pulling his black metal mace and striking at the filthy birdman before him.
Dropping my glaive and striking the one at R8 (also, the only one I can reach).
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
DM Shisumo |
Seemingly aware of the potency of their foes, the corbies fight more carefully than they have done before, and only Lamsfel manages to fight past their defenses.
Seeing Gan move away into the tower, the climbing corby heads that way across the wall. It goes into full defense, but still provokes AoOs from Lamsfel, Callomeleth and Tybus in the process. Assuming it survives the experience, it climbs up into S6.
On the other side of the tower, the corby that faces Gan and Tristan decides to test the defenses of the newcomer rather than trying to cut through Tristan's armor again. Claw #1 on Gan: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21, damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2. Claw #2 on Gan: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14, damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2.
Lamsfel's foe, battered, wounded and unable to strike out effectively, nonetheless continues its assault, hoping to find a weakness in the elf's bladework. Claw #1 on Lamsfel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21, damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4. Claw #2 on Lamsfel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9, damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3.
You guys are up. I'll update the map after the AoOs get rolled.
Lamsfel |
Attack of Opportunity, primary hand
Primary, MW wakizashi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Full attack against his regular dance partner
Primary, MW wakizashi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Secondary, magic wakizashi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Confirmation roll, magic wakizashi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Thanks to Suppressing Attack, my main target takes a -1 to attack until my turn.
He's rolling well. It's going to suck when time comes to pay the piper...
Tybus Elhezen |
Tybus slashes downward at the maneuvering corbie, his blade still crackling with energy ready to discharge.
AoO Melee: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 7 + (4) = 19
If there's another within reach, he'll keep up the attack.
Melee: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 7 + (1) = 13
If any of those hit (and the Corbie survives), they'll need to make a save vs the chill touch.
