Would you allow me to make this a weapon for my character?
Hidden Blade (assassin's creed!)
A retractable blade hidden within an ornate gauntlet that can be deployed with a tug on a string attached to a ring on the wearer's finger.
Damage 1d6/1d4
Critical 18-20 x2
Unless seen before, the blade is always considered concealed and may be extended as a swift action. Also, the blade only does 1d6 if used in a sneak attack, otherwise it uses 1d4.
Thoughts? I wouldn't mind having a gauntlet on my left arm too that has a retractable hook to give me a bonus to climb =D I'ma be a high charisma ninja.

Ahh, aren't we starting in a prison with Nada?
Or are you talking something you want to craft later on?

Roll 1d10+7 4 times. I'll let you know if you need to reroll.
Game will get underway next week, so try and have your characters ready to go by then. I've got a test Monday, so Monday night I'll go over everything and get the ball rolling.
Also, I'll be out of town this weekend with no guarantee of posting time, so I may not be able to answer questions until Monday.

Just about figured out what I am doing. Pretty sure I am going Fetchling melee character. Trying to decide between Fighter(Lore Warden) and Fighter(Two-weapon warrior) right now. Might drop the Anti-Paladin all together. By doing so, I can put my foible into Charisma and not end up with a really stupid/clueless character. I will likely take 2 levels of Ranger at levels 3-4, so I get the medium armor proficiency making the Lore Warden less of a problem. Likely also going to take 2 levels of Monk of Many Styles at levels 5-6 giving me the Crane Style/Crane Wing & Monkey Style styles. The combination makes for a hard to disable front liner allowing the rest of you to have fun with buffs and spells.

Personally I think we have better go with a 25 points buy then. Too much difference between characters could lead to some players feeling left behind or not doing anything important, which usually leads to players leaving the game and the game dying.
Dimral Windstrider |
The problem is not the dices, it's the huge discrepancy in power beetween characters: mine for example is (17+13+7+2+2-2=39) points, if someone gets a 25 points champion the difference is going to be glaring.
Now I'm happy with my character, as a ranger he will be esactly what I wanted to play (because of the high dex and high strength I can make the perfect 2 weapon ranger with Earth Breaker and Klar by level 3), the problem is I also want other players to have fun, in my experience games keep up as long as everyone is happy, huge differences in power between characters rarely lead to that.
We could do a 25 or a 30 point buy, if I understand this AP correctly powerful characters are almost mandatory, but what we need to do is make sure there's not too much difference between characters. One way to save the rolls and assure there's not too much difference could be to reroll characters if you score a >30 build or a <40 build, so the difference is not so glaring. That's just an idea though.

Ok, just to drive everyone nuts. Would you all care if I were to completely change my character.
Former Idea - Fetchling Fighter(Two-Weapon) with a few Monk levels
Current idea - Aasimar (Archon-Blooded) Monk of Many Styles/Martial Artist - I will also take 2-4 levels of Fighter(Lore Warden)
Xrezth the Discordant |
Yeh - front liner, high strength. I would most likely take the Two-Weapon fighting/Improved Two-Weapon Fighting, etc as I get to that level. I really like the style feats, but it is a question of whether I would be better picking up the style feats, taking Monk levels, or taking fighter levels. All have their benefits and drawbacks. Need to figure out which combo I would want.
Xrezth the Discordant |
Ok - finally have made up my mind. Monk of the Four Winds - I will be taking a lot of Style feats and the Combat Style Master feat when I get to level 5.
Race - probably sticking with the original Aasimar, but might go with Fetchling or Dhampir although the bonus in Cha is really useless. Dwarf is best stat wise, but I just do not feel dwarf monk.

I'm back.
The 18 is before racial modifiers, so you'll have between a 16 and a 20 as your focus stat. Same with the 8.
I'm seriously considering going to a straight 25 point buy since this is causing a lot of grief, if no one has feelings one way of the other, we'll just stick with this, otherwise we'll go with what ever the majority wants.
I think I'm going to roll for everybody next time, if I ever do this again.
Lucias Aermaine |
I'm fine with whatever, as long as people are happy. I can definitely see some people's points in terms of balance, and I'd like to see this go a long time so everyone should feel happy with their characters. Also, Tenro, I'm counting a 32 point buy for you... not 25. Are you not counting your focus/foible?
Dogar the Wild |
I'll try rolling once more...
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
I can live with that! : )
17
15
18 (16+2 race)
8
14 (12+2 race)
16 (18-2 race)
Character finished! Ready and Raring to go!
EDIT: Oh, I saw this in the other recruitment thread:
Skills: Each character will receive two additional Skill Points at each level.
Feats: Each character will receive an additional non-combat feat at first level. Approval of such feats are subject to GM approval.
Is that part of the AP and are we going with that, or was that the DM's personal addition?
Also, anything else missing or wrong with Dogar?
Xrezth the Discordant |
Just about finished. Suli Monk of the Four Winds is the final decision. Will likely take 2 levels of Lore Warden at level 5-6.
Height: 53 + 2d10 ⇒ 53 + (5, 5) = 63 Inches
Weight: 2d10 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6x5+85= 115 pounds
New Stat Rolls on this thread if required (I am using my old stats at present):
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

My character is finished. I will relook at her tomorrow to see how many mistakes I made.
Regarding the Focus/Foible vs. 25 point buy. Most campaigns have you make 1 set of 4d10 for your stats. If you do not like them, then you have the option of a 25 point buy. Sort of like a base number that you cannot get below even with bad rolls.
Dimral Windstrider |
As I said above I suggest we go with a point buy system as wild differences in power aren't good for player satisfaction, usually.
That said, the stats I rolled work perfectly for me, if we choose to go with rolls and everyone is happy I've no problem with that.
Dogar the Wild |
Sorry, I feel like I may have started the rerolling fiasco.
I can handle a 25-point buy or a GM roll.
DM Salsa specifically said I could re-roll.
I'm quite happy with the last roll, but if everyone will be happier with 25 point buy that will be ok too.
I guess the pertinent question is, is anyone particularly Unhappy with their dice rolls?
Lucias Aermaine |
Well, assuming everyone gets their most recent rolls, I think everyone should be good... the people who didn't roll quite as high (I think tenro and I have the lowest pt buy but I haven't done all the math) are full casters, so stats aren't as defining for character power. If everyone is happy with their rolls I think we should actually be alright.
DM-Salsa |
Okay seems like we're going with the rolls. Try and have your characters ready tonight. I'll try and get things going tonight or tomorrow night.
DM-Salsa |
Okay I'll get things rolling tomorrow. I feel like crap right now, so probably not up to writing what I have planned.
