DM Raltus
Yep, there are also nets there to throw in, they will sink so they will have to swim to them. The water is quick here so the line will only be there for a round
A large figure can be seen swimming in the water. Lunging at....
Gran't'/Oorug: 1d2 ⇒ 2
Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 141d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Grab: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
Gran't'
Swim: 1d20 + 3 - 9 ⇒ (12) + 3 - 9 = 6Even on a 20 I fail the swim check. Unless we assume that the guy made of stone is not stupid enough to be wearing stupidly heavy armor like that on a boat. Then I have a chance of passing.
There are two lines of ????? in the init tracker. Have both gone?
Lanneth
OK given the different placement, replace Lanneth's last move with
Thrown Sounding Rope - improvised weapon: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 - 4 = 2
Lanneth tries to throw the sounding rope to the group, but the rope catches on the rail of the ship.
Dagnamit!
DM Raltus
Only 1 has gone, this is nearing the end of the first day on the boat, so 50/50 shot you aren't wearing it.
high to not be: 1d100 ⇒ 13
Lanneth <---
Balder (Below Deck 2 full rounds out); ????
????
Gran't' <---, Dain
Yorikata (Below Deck 2 full rounds out), Oorug
The Second Crocodile goes for Gran't'
Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 111d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Grab: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
DM Raltus
Yes it was sorry
The Croc misses Gran't who sinks enough, Gran't' lashes back out scoring a very deep gouge in the croc
Lanneth
Balder (Below Deck 2 full rounds out); ????
????
Gran't', Dain
Yorikata <---, Oorug
Swim Oorug: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
With the blood loss Oorug cannot stay afloat and starts to go under the water.
Lanneth
Gran't' and a sailor went overboard. Something in the water is bitting them.
Lanneth unwinds the rope and tries to toss the sounding rope where she saw the two struggling.
Thrown Sounding Rope - improvised weapon: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 - 4 = 11
This time she manages to get the rope into the water where the weight on the end should make it sink.
We need to get them out.
DM Raltus
Lanneth
Balder; Croc 1 (-7)
Croc 2 (-13)
Gran't', Dain <---
Yorikata , Oorug (-11)
Balder Runs to the edge of the boat and dives into the water to help out, leading his way down with a spear in hand.
Dive bomb: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 211d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Balder's Heroics distract the Croc from Oorug, it lets go of Oorug and bites at Balder.
Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 191d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Grab: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
The Croc on Gran't' continues to pester him.
Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 251d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Grab: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
confirm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 101d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Both Crocs bite their victims, Balder manages to swim just enough to avoid the grab. Gran't' as he sinks is not so lucky
DM Raltus
Gran't' cannot stab his weapon well enough to hit the croc.
why the -2?
Lanneth
Balder; Croc 1 (-7)
Croc 2 (-13)
Gran't', Dain
Yorikata<--- , Oorug (-11)
Swim Oorug: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Oorug finds a bit of strength and swims up at the rope, pulling himself up and out of the water.
Climb: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
"Shoot the crocs!" Oorug calls out to the ship
Lanneth
Lanneth lets out a frustrated shout.
The crocodiles are too far for me to put to sleep!
So Lanneth ties the rope off on the ship mast making sure it is well secure to allow the both of the men in the water to climb up.
DM Raltus
Thrashing can be see from in the water.
Lanneth Longbow Lady: 1d20 + 5 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 5 - 4 + 1 = 201d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Lanneth's Arrow Strikes the croc on Gran't', dealing an almost mortal blow.
Crocs on the River Round 3
Lanneth
Balder (-11); Croc 1 (-9)
Croc 2 (-22)
Gran't', Dain <---
Yorikata , Oorug (-11)
Balder again stabs out at the Croc on him.
Stab: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 251d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Swim: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
The Croc on Gran't' lets go and swims away. AoO if you want
The one on Balder continues to bite.
Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 81d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Grappled: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
The other croc swims away as well, seeing that they are wounded and their prey isn't just dying. Balder swims the rope over to Gran't' then climbs up after Oorug.
Ragg rushes back up to the aft castle with more crossbows. "I see ye survived, what the hell happened?" Ragg looks around
Yorikata __
"Are you and your crew always that fast in reacting if something goes wrong?" Yorikata asks. "Because if your answer is yes, I need to keep an eye out myself. You didn't even stop the boat when those two went overboard."
Seeing that a piece of the railing is missing, Yorikata walks over and takes a look at it. Maybe this isn't a ship at all, but only a slap dash box that hasn't sunk yet.
Perception to find why it broke: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
DM Raltus
Yorikata sees that the rail is broken but without some expertise she won't be able to tell more.
The rails appears to have been sabotaged, weakened so that if a great weight was put on it, then it would breakout causing those leaning on it to fall
Ragg just stares down a the little red haired girl.
"There be 3 on Deck most days the rest are rowin', so we responded as quickly as we could. The Current was pullin' the boat we cannot just drop anchor and stop without ruining the mast or breaking an oar." Ragg takes a small breath. "My crew know the dangers of these waters, I was told you would as well." With a final look Ragg goes to his own man and sees to him. "What happened?" Ragg asks Oorug.
"We were pulling in the last net and the rail broke, I don't know more than that." Oorug holds a bloody cloth to his side where the teeth of the croc bit deep.
Yorikata __
Yorikata kicks the stump where the railing broke. "Rotten thing."
Walking back to Raag and Oorug she puts a hand on the wounded half orc.
Heal Hex: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
"I know the dangers of traveling these lands. And I know how to handle them if necessary. But I like it best to avoid them."
"And instead of sitting in the woods listening to singing birds, I have to go after some crazy orcs and giants, who thought it would be a great idea to run over Trunau. And as a thank you for being willing to do that, I get a passage on a boat that falls apart, and where we have to do half of the work. And when the going gets rough, we got to do all the work."
"That I'm here is not your fault. But you're the captain and the state of the boat is your responsibility. And that leaves a lot to be desired."
Lanneth
Lanneth looks at the rail.
I never did study human or Orc architecture... But if this has never happened before, do you have a ship's carpenter? I'd suggest they look at the rail. I wonder if one of your crew did not take well to having a dwarf on board...
DM Raltus
Balder is the only one with K. Engi
Ragg calls up one of the crew, a half orc with a Tattoo on the right side of his face.
"Togg, fix the rail up and make sure that it is sturdy again." The new half orc nods at Ragg then heads below deck.
"Now we can get back to our jobs and finish this day out." Ragg says.
Flash Forward
The day progresses without any further incident, night comes and the ship drops anchor close to the shore, Ragg retires to his Cabins and Halrex and the crew sit on the top deck gambling with cards and dice.
What do you all want to do tonight.
Lanneth
Earlier:
Lanneth uses her Hexes to heal Balder and Oorug.
Can't have those bites getting infected.
Healing Hex Balder: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Healing Hex Oorug: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Lanneth tries to engage whoever is on watch in a conversation about what he normally has to look for. She's trying to learn more about the river they are floating on, and any dangers they face here or near the Marsh.
She'll help out on Watch while talking to him.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
If there's no one on watch, she'll sit off to the side of the deck watching the river, looking at the animals who might live near the river, as well as how the water flows and interacts while taking notes on what she sees.
DM Raltus
Lanneth sits with a Half Orc names Ghorza, he is an older half orc with greying hair.
"Mostly I just look fer other people, the animals don't bother us much but other humans and orcs and such would attack us if they wanted to." He looks at Lanneth. "Never had a full elf attack us but plenty o' half elves."
Dain sits down and plays cards with the group, drinking, the Half Orcs poke some fun at Dain and his beard.
