Lorena follows behind wordlessly, keeping her eyes and ears open.
There are a few potions that are left intact, 2 of healing and 1 titled Strength of the bull. There are also 3 vials of acid.
With everyone listening at the door enough of you can piece together that someone is inside.
"Hurry up and stack them higher!"
Stack them higher? There must be people inside saving books. A noble deed to save knowledge, but this late? Khaz strode inside.
Firinn stays in the doorway, but forces the door right open to widen the fields of view.
Looking at Firinn Khaz shook his head. ”There are people inside, not demons. We can hear their voices. Let’s get everyone off the streets and see if we can help.”
Carson is in behind Khaz.
Hello? We have injured seeking refuge.
A man turns to look at you with a scowl on his face, "I told you to lock the door you dolts, half breed fools." 3 teiflings can be noted to be with this man, the book stacker is a fear striken looking human woman, the "stacked books" are in a circular ring with 5 others inside.
”What is going on here?!” Khaz’s face went from shock to anger when he saw the fear stricken woman. ”In the name of all that is holy I demand an answer.”

"Nothing good." Is Firinn's laconic answer to Khaz's question. He nocks an arrow and aims at the man. "Put down your weapons, and no-one will get hurt."
Lorena blocks the doorway, spear at the ready, but pauses when nobody seems to be openly hostile. She fixes a glare on the leader, but the others seem to have things under control for now.
"Don't just stand there get them out of here," the human man yells.
The 3 Tieflings pull out wicked looking blades and advance upon the party, the Human stands a bit back, brining his shield off his back and making himself ready to kill.
Firinn fires at the human, since he is both unprepared and seemingly the leader of the group. Rionnag swoops in to harass the first tiefling.
The human just misses the block with his shield, grunting a bit as the arrow finds a spot in his armor and blood begins to well up. The Purple clothed Tiefling moves in on Khaz hoping to wound the Dwarf.
The Human moves up as well engaging Khaz as well, "You picked the wrong place to stumble into"
First came the blade. Khaz felt it plunge into his stomach. Then came the mace, cracking him upside the head. His vision swam, blood was pooling. It was enough to down most men. His divine magic was completely expended. But...
”I...am where Torag needs me!” Acting on pure instinct he swung his axe with all of his might at the figure he had mistaken for a knight.
Seeing the dwarf taking horrible hits, Lorena moves up next to him and puts a hand on his wounds, channeling her last bit of magic for the day to try and bring him back up. Then, she grasps her spear, ready to take on anyone should they try to move on her.
Carson slings a spear between Khaz and Lorena at the human attacking them.

A strange buzzing sound comes from outside, Aravashnial falls into a trance and summons what looks like a ball of light.

Khaz's blade bites deep into the armored warrior in front of him.
Rionnag makes a strange chittering sound as the tiefling punctures her wing and flies up into the rafters where she vanishes into the smoke and the gloom.
Firinn pulls another arrow and fires again at the 'knight', to little effect. Then he drops the bow and pulls out a wicked curved knife, stepping up to guard Khaz's body.
Firinn slightly wounds the warrior a head of him, the man who looks like a knight smiles at the downed Dwarf and the new comer standing guard over him.
"Protecting your fellow eh? Not so smart"
The tieflings move in as well
The lantern archon floated about, flashing rays of light at the tiefling in green. It was a scout and harasser of the heavenly host, and it would fulfill the same role here.
It moved up behind the injured tiefling, giving Lorena the chance to flank it.
As the tieflings close in, Lorena stabs out at one of them with her spear. Grunting as she takes a hit anyways, she drops the spear and lashes out with her claws instead, then steps back to get out of harm's way.
The Tiefling coming dodges around Lorena's spear but doesn't see the first claw coming, Lorena draws a wound upon the tiefling bringing to close to death, her second claw is not so accurate and only tugs at the armor.
Firinn feints and then thrusts with his curved knife, before brutally headbutting the knight with remarkable force.
These attacks prove little more than a distraction, but one that Rionnag takes advantage of, launching out of the darkness above with the force of a falling star!
Carson takes a nervous step back and magically propels another spear towards one of the injured tieflings.

Rionnnag swoops down slamming hard into one of the Tieflings breaking its neck, the auidable sound is enough to distract Carson who's shot goes wide.
Carson tries another spear at whoever looks like they need it.
Carson's splinters kill the other Tiefling on Lorena freeing her up to move and assist Firinn.
The Human back away from Firinn, "Kill him and I will kill those cowardly scholars."
The Lantern Archon turned to face the human with the mace and fired off two more bolts of light.
Seeing the tieflings that had been surrounding her go down, Lorena moves up again and picks up her dropped spear, then proceeds to skewer the last tiefling on it.

The lantern Archon finishes off the human and Lorena skewers the final Tiefling. The dust settles in this library the woman at the back kicks away a lit torch from the books and those contained within the circle of books.
"Who...who are you?" the woman says almost crying
Carson stirs up more dancing lights as his armor fades away.
Know Planes
"Lorena, can you do anything to help Khaz? Wait... Lantern Archon. "
"You can provide aid with temporary healing. If you do that, Khaz might be able to heal himself further." He speaks to it in Celestial out of courtesy.
"Oh, wait again, who has those health potions? We should have two.
Either way, Carson moves in to help the people pinned in, knowing he can't do anything personally to help Khaz.
"We're here to help. Why was he trying to block you all up in here?"
The lantern archon buzzed it's acceptance, and floated over to Khaz. A warm light infused the dwarf:
His eyes opened wearily. Reaching up, he gladly accepted the proffered healing potion and drank it down.
Wearily, he got to his feet, and spat out the blood that was in his mouth. Looking over at the carnage, he reflected that the last thing he remembered was one of the tieflings sinking a blade into his gut.
"Thank ye...thank ye all. I'm sorry that I wasn't of more help." He sounded more than a bit embarrassed.
Lorena replies to Carson, "No, I'm out of healing magic for the day. We should probably rest soon...is it safe here? I assume one of them had a key to lock the doors?" She looks around and then leans down for a cursory search of the tiefling bodies, leaving the human alone for now.
Turning to those in the back, she asks curiously, "So...they wanted to burn the books? or did they want to burn you using the books? What's in this library, anyways?"
Firinn fusses over Rionnag, stroking her wings and whispering soft words to her, before coming over to see to Khaz.
His hands glow for a moment with the soft radiance of starlight, and Kha'z wounds knit themselves somewhat.
"Need to be careful there." He suggests. "I though you were too tough for a couple of street thugs like that!"
”Thank ye.” Khaz said, his face reddening. ”They got the drop on me. A sword cuts, regardless of the quality of hand that swings it.”
He then went and busied himself looking through the library for ways to secure it for the night.
Aravashnial enters the building with the others in tow, "This is a hide out for the Rift Wardens, a great deal of knowledge on Demons is present here and I can understand why the enemy would want to destroy that." The Woman looks at Aravashnial with a bit of scepticism but then realizes who it is.
"Sir I am sorry we couldn't hold out, they entered as friend and took us by surprise. They wanted to destroy the knowledge as Sir Aravasnial said." The woman replies
Carson helps to carefully unstack the books around the trapped librarians and others so as not to damage them, but to get the others out as soon as possible.
This is such an odd thing to do. I guess he intended to keep you here, but this is just such a strange way to go about it. He really must have been insane.
There are odd Gray worms on the floor, they are flat and dead
"I am Fenna, I guess I am in charge now since that evil looking man came and killed all the higher ranking staff here." Fenna spots a book as Carson is trying to stack them, "That is a spell book, are any of you arcane spell casters?"

and versatile weaponAPG. There is also a scroll of Arcane lock folded up into the spell book.
Carson is a bit preoccupied once they mention a spell book, but he lets them out of the book tower before starting on it.
"Yes, I am actually. I was hoping we might find one here. And it's a pleasure to meet you. I just wish it was on better circumstances."
Lorena finds a potion on the human, nothing else interesting other than his equipment and that of the tieflings.
"I do to" Fenna says, once she notes Lorena she steps back a bit, "You're not like them are you?" Fenna looks at the dead Tieflings on the floor.

"Hm? Oh." Lorena notices the demonic features of the combatants for the first time. "No, I have no idea what their problem was, but I don't kill scholars and burn books."
Firinn notes with some interest that his feathers are attracting less interest than Lorena's horns... clearly the scholars remain distracted.
He set to examining the equipment scavenged from the bodies, taking a short sword for himself and tossing the potion to Khaz. "You'd better keep this - we don't want you ending up out again." Then he looks around more generally. "Anyone want a sword or some armor? We've got some pretty heavy stuff here."
”The lass has proven herself. She has fought by our side, and on this occasion has saved my life when it would have been easy to turn on us. She has earned our trust.”
Then, to Firinn, Khaz nodded. ”My armor has taken a beating. I could wear this cur’s for now.”
Fenna nods a Khaz's assessment of Lorena, "Aravashnial can you stay here with us? We need someone with experience lead us. I am the highest ranked person here and I am just a Librarian really."
"It might be safest for you, sir." Firinn offers. "If you keep the place locked then I doubt you will be troubled. We can send rescue once we reach whatever forces remain in the city."
