If given an opportunity or second before things hit the fan, Brother Butterfly wants to heal his friends with a channel.

and the Watchmen feel better, like they have a friend near them.


The hall where the Watchmen stand is empty, but screams echo elsewhere in the palace, evidence of other shades having invaded and begun flaying citizens of Sarnath indiscriminately with their wracking touch.

As they tend to their injuries and Fearless attempts to parlay with the shades, the leader turns to observe them briefly. There is an almost joyous expression on its horrifying eyeless face. It opens its mouth, but no sound issues forth, and it soon turns back toward the water and thrusts the idol higher. Storms clouds above flash, and a bolt of lightning crackles in the air. The other shades hold their positions, though some glance back over the water in rapt anticipation.

A deep roar sounds in the air and an overwhelming feeling of doom and hopelessness descends upon the area.

DC 33 will save or become overwhelmed with hopelessness and doom—it takes a –4 penalty on all attack rolls, saving throws, ability checks, skill checks, and weapon damage rolls. Note: this is not a fear effect.

Pinkie's stuck in wifi badlands, so we'll move on.

Somehow Cats and Fearless withstand the awful presence, but Brother Butterfly and the Mariner look at each other with dread as a looming despair falls upon Sarnath. A small voice comes from Pinkie, but it's too soft to carry meaning.

With the idol in sight and the shade holding it refusing to parlay the Watchmen have little choice but to advance and take it. Climbing the stairs, Cats and the Mariner get a better view of the approaching doom.

Beyond the wall is the source of the unspeakable presence. A great reptilian monster with a beard of tentacles and a sting-tipped tail. The scales of its hide ripple as it slips forward with the the waves, long spines extending and retracting from beneath them as it breathes in and out.

The unspeakable monster is a couple hundered feet from the wall and will arrive in 4-5 rounds.

Brother Butterfly prays to his goddess while Cats and the Mariner rush the shade holding the idol, cutting into its essence. It withstands the physical assault well though it recoils a bit as Fearless batters it with psychic force.

Pinkie advances, but does not get close enough to join the melee yet.

The leader points at the Mariner and a bolt of lightning drops from the sky and strikes him!

More channeling comes forth from Brother Butterfly. He breathes in a deep breath and a wave of positive Desnian energy issues forth. Wave after wave.

I don't know how much more I can keep the power of Desna flowing through. Her might in infinite, but the vessel she uses has a mortal coil.


Brother Butterfly prays harder.

Cats and the Mariner swipe and slash with their swords, but are unable to bring down the leader.

@Mariner: seems you forgot the penalties of doom effect from the approaching beast. -4 causes the reflex save to fail. Cats’ +4 courage bonus negates enough to prevent the will save from failing. I’ll put a note in the initiative tracker.

It’s attention captured by Fearless’ mental attack, the leader points and calls down another bolt of lightning directed at the halfling.

The terrible beast roars as it closes to within 100 feet of the walls. With its roar the water before it rises in a massive tidal wave. The walls of the palace hold, but the town below is thrashed and flooded. The screams of citizens are cut short as they are swept under the waves.

IT'S GETTING CLOSER!!!

Brother prepares his water breathing prayer. Of course breathing water won't help against a tidal wave! Neither will walking on water.

Fearless barely dodges the lightning bolt as his hair stands on end worse than Pinkie's. Then the shades hand passes into his body with excruciating pain. The only saving grace as he falls away is that his mind is still linked with the idol holding shade's.

Waves crash against the seawall, soaking the the Watchmen as they struggle in the fight against the shades.

Getting a good look at the approaching monster thoroughly shakes Pinkie’s composure. A few voices come forth from him, involuntarily babbling and wailing.

Lunging at the lead shade, he tries again to grab the idol.

Did this wrong last time. Should be a CMB check.

Somehow he manages to snatch the object!

The shade gapes at Pinkie for a moment before it rocks back from a mental assault by Fearless. Before it can gather it’s senses Oinkie has tumbled away and begun to flee into the Palace.

The lead shade points and the others swarm after the kid with their horrid grasping hands.

In a flurry of blades and psychic energy, the Watchmen defeat the leader of the shades.

Idol in hand, Pinkie flees, dashing off past Brother Butterfly through the grand hall, heading deeper into the palace.

The shades in the palace swirl, silent expressions contorting their inhuman faces. At first they seem enraged, but then it becomes clear - triumph, and joy directed toward the massive beast as it mounts the seawall. With a swipe of a claw the beast tears a chunk of the palace wall away from the stairs. The monster opens its jaws and a strange gas flows from its mouth, billowing around it and washing over Cats and the Mariner.

Toxic Breath (Su) Bokrug's breath is toxic. Whenever the Great Old One is above water, he is surrounded by a 30-foot-radius cloud of invisible poison gas that causes temporary madness and hallucinations. Any creature that begins its turn in this area must succeed at a DC 41 Will save or be confused for 1 round. A creature that holds its breath or doesn't have to breathe gains a +4 bonus on this saving throw. This is a mind-affecting poison effect.

Waking from the Dreamlands
Anyone wishing to wake from the Dreamlands and return to their body on the Material Plane must succeed at a DC 25 concentration check to do so. This is a full-round action that doesn’t provoke attacks of opportunity. The DC of this check is reduced by 1 for every 2d6 points of damage the traveler willingly takes to their physical body as part of the full-round action (this damage can’t be reduced in any way). If successful, the caster awakens. The caster can try again if they fail their concentration check. A caster can use their character level + her Charisma modifier as their bonus on the concentration check if they aren’t a spellcaster or if that value is higher than their usual concentration bonus.

Brother Butterfly considers running headfirst into a wall, but that would damage his face. Unnaceptable even in dreams. He draws a knife and aims for a spot where a scar won't show...

Pinkie runs and leaps from a wall... landing hard, he feels some bones break. He knows it isn't real, but it sure feels real, and the bone sticking out the side of his shin looks real too.

Inhaling some of the misty gas surrounding the great beast The Mariner succumbs to a maddening confusion that turns him against his allies. He takes his sword and stabs Cats, giving him a boost back to the waking world...

Meanwhile, Fearless stands in the crumbling palace hall, eyes squeezed shut and trying in vain to wake up without self-inflicted injury. Nearby he can hear the beast tear the Mariner limb from limb...
