Cathedral - Round 8 - continued

Robin's force of will overcomes the quasit's magic and the jester is unaffected (at least that's what we think...).

Rogar looks at the ants for signs of weakness. Based on his extensive forestry experience, he can see these are Worker ants, not the more dangerous Soldiers. He gathers up the rest of his javelins in time to see the quasit reappear.

In the interest of keeping things moving, I'll run a turn for Smoke. I know it's the weekend, but one turn shouldn't harm him...much.

The gritty barbarian, fatigued by his emotional rage, cleaves the Blue Ant again before it can attack him, ending the insects time on this plane, as it fizzles into thin air. The weary Smoke then steps in front of Black Ant, acting as a human shield for Robin

Strike Blue Ant: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 6) + 3 = 11

End of Round 8

Two summoned ants down, 1 more to go. And there's that quasit buzzing around...

Cathedral - Round 9

21 Tinuviel
15 Black Ant
15 Cadas
14 Rogar
13 Robin
11 Quasit
10 Smoke (fatigued)

Looks like it's Tinuviel's turn. Cadas still owes us a channel roll, and then her turn is up soon as well.

Female Elf Wizard, 3, Per +4, Init +3, AC 13, Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +1 (Familiar: Raven) HP (18)21 (3/8 acid darts)

Tinuviel whacks the really big ant that attacked her with her staff.

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17 for 1d6 ⇒ 6 whackiness damage.

Round 9

"How many quasits does it take to change an oil lamp? I lost count because they keep turning invisible!" Feather in hand, Robin tries again to inflict uncontrollable laughter on the quasit.

Cast Hideous Laughter, Will DC 15, quasit gets a +4 bonus.

Hideous Laughter:
This spell afflicts the subject with uncontrollable laughter. It collapses into gales of manic laughter, falling prone. The subject can take no actions while laughing, but is not considered helpless. After the spell ends, it can act normally. On the creature's next turn, it may attempt a new saving throw to end the effect. This is a full round action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity. If this save is successful, the effect ends. If not, the creature continues laughing for the entire duration.

A creature with an Intelligence score of 2 or lower is not affected. A creature whose type is different from the caster's receives a +4 bonus on its saving throw, because humor doesn't "translate" well.

F Human Shoanti [AC: 23/12 tch/21 ff; HP 83/95; Frt +9, Ref +5, Will +13; Perc +19/21 vs creatures] Cleric 10, Init:+1, Diplo +8, Heal +15, Sense Motive +15

Was not sure I got the channel as I was not willing to take a chance on healing the Quasit.

Excluding the wounded enemies she can, and specifically the little demon, Cadas allows the power of her deity to flow from her in a wave of positive healing energy. Channel: 1d6 ⇒ 6

F Human Shoanti [AC: 23/12 tch/21 ff; HP 83/95; Frt +9, Ref +5, Will +13; Perc +19/21 vs creatures] Cleric 10, Init:+1, Diplo +8, Heal +15, Sense Motive +15

moving to the remaining ant Cadas presents her shield and then strikes at the creature.

Trident: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 51d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Cathedral - Round 9 - continued

Tinuviel walks around and bashes the remaining ant with her stick, but the ant remains attentive to Smoke, biting the warrior, just after the healing energies of the Shoanti priestess arrived to soothe his hurts. Unfortunately, Cadas' trident strike is not effective against the ant.

I have Smoke at 21/27 hp after bite and heals.

Ant Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Smoke Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Rogar is up now, I know he's got things to do, but will give him a bit of chance to post beore I DM=PC him. Robin, I see your spell cast, and will get to it after the dwarf goes.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4 | HP 30/30 | AC 21 | T 12 | FF 19 | F +9 | R +9 | W +6 | I +4 | P +10

No baby yet. So the Quasit is still visible?

Rogar seeing the Ants are handled moves to other side of the pulpit lifts a Javelin and throws.

Javelin Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 and he throws it into his own leg

F Human Shoanti [AC: 23/12 tch/21 ff; HP 83/95; Frt +9, Ref +5, Will +13; Perc +19/21 vs creatures] Cleric 10, Init:+1, Diplo +8, Heal +15, Sense Motive +15

Hey Rogar, saw something for. Have you considered the weapon: Dwarven Boulder Helmet? Its exotic, but with the word dwarven in it I think you would get it as marshall Lets you head butt for a d4 and grants a +2 bull rush (but note the staggered deal...) . Also adds +2 to AC when an enemy tries to confirm a crit. This would let you two weapon fight without a weapon... :)

Male Dwarf Ranger 4 | HP 30/30 | AC 21 | T 12 | FF 19 | F +9 | R +9 | W +6 | I +4 | P +10

Sounds good.

Cathedral - Round 9

Seeing the quasit visible for the first time in a while, Rogar hurls another javelin at it, but it flies wide, clanging against the wall behind.

Also seeing the Quasit, Robin tries a little magical humor, trying to get the evil demon laughing by casting Hideous Laughter, but the quasit is not amused, not even a little bit.

Instead she roars, at the halfling bard, and then blinks out of sight again.

Quasit DC 15 Will, +4 for type: 1d20 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 6 = 21

The fatigued Smoke is up next to end the round.

Attack!: 1d20 + 6 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 6 - 2 + 2 = 9

Jumping into flank with Cadas on the ant, Smoke half-swings and half-fumbles his sword, the exhaustion of the day catching up to him in a blur. "Ugh," he rasps, a look of annoyance on his face.

Female Elf Wizard, 3, Per +4, Init +3, AC 13, Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +1 (Familiar: Raven) HP (18)21 (3/8 acid darts)

Tinuviel will whack at the critter yet again.

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11 for 1d6 ⇒ 4 damage

Cathedral - Round 9 - concluded

Smoke steps into a flanking position and that's good, but he's blow is poor and misses, and that's bad.

End of Round 9

Yawn, this fight is dragging on and on. What ever could happen next?

Cathedral - Round 10

21 Tinuviel
15 Black Ant
15 Cadas
14 Rogar
13 Robin
11 Quasit
10 Smoke (fatigued)

Tinuviel swings her staff again at the ant, but the blow caroms off it's hard exoskeleton without effect.

Black Ant bites Smoke again, this time for 3 hp. (18/27)

Ant Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Smoke Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

On now to Cadas and the rest of the heroes.

F Human Shoanti [AC: 23/12 tch/21 ff; HP 83/95; Frt +9, Ref +5, Will +13; Perc +19/21 vs creatures] Cleric 10, Init:+1, Diplo +8, Heal +15, Sense Motive +15

Cadas, growing frustrated with the fight, strikes at the summoned vermin with her trident.

Trident: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 61d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

sigh. I have games where I am rolling hit after hit. But this game is making up for that I guess. Balance is restored.

Rogar and Robin can follow that up

Male Dwarf Ranger 4 | HP 30/30 | AC 21 | T 12 | FF 19 | F +9 | R +9 | W +6 | I +4 | P +10

Move action to locate the quasit.

perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

He'll throw his other javelin at the last known location of the quasit or in the new square.

miss chance hit hits: 1d100 ⇒ 87

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 a 1 again, seriously

Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Round 10

Robin drops the whip again, takes a 5 foot step, draws his longsword, and swings at the bad ant.

Attack: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 1 + 2 = 18
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Cathedral - Round 10

Rogaris able to sense the location of the invisible quasit, and his javelin thow appears to be true, but the quasit deftly avoids the sharp tip much to the dwarf's frustration.

Robin drops his whip again, and drawing his sword takes a small step forward, striking the ant a glancing blow.

To everyone's surprise, the remaining ant vanishes back to whatever place is was summoned from. At nearly, the same time, the cathedral doors begin to open, as if by themselves.

The demonic voice calls out "I tire of this foolishness. My revenge against you will be sweet indeed. You do not understand the power you are stirring up."

By rule, you can't take AoO against an opponent you can't see, but I'll give Robin and Smoke the same 50% miss chance if they want to try. Smoke also has his regular round to post before we move on, although the room is quickly emptying of enemies.

Male Human Barbarian 2; AC 14, 11 touch 13 flat-footed; HP 21/27, Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +0; +2 trait vs. fear; +1 Initiative, +5 Perception

Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 5) + 3 = 10
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 13

Maybe that hits? Who knows!

Smoke swings wildly at the sound of the quasit's voice.

For my action, I'm attacking the square where I heard the sound come from. If it's there, here are some rolls!

Attack!: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 6 - 2 = 13
Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 3) + 3 = 12
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 32

Cathedral - Round 10 - concluded

Smoke flails around with his greatsword, and actually feels it hit something, but the blow is awkward and not enough to cause harm as the creature flies by to the doorway. Another slashing attack comes up completely empty.

Robin also swings into the air, but can't find anything to hit.

Robin Miss Chance, low is good: 1d100 ⇒ 80

End of Combat

You killed 2 of the creepy monsters and 2 ants and drove off the quasit, but didn't kill it. What you did kill nets you 480xp each. This should move your cumulative total to 2589/3300 or about 64% to level 3. Post-combat summary coming in Discussion, please check it over. Out of rounds now.

"That's right, little girl. Run back to your mommy!"

Once satisfied that the immediate threat has departed, Robin will take a look at the pool with Detect Magic. Afterwards, he checks the northeast and southwest doors for traps, and try to undo any locks/traps as needed.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Disable Device: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

Male Dwarf Ranger 4 | HP 30/30 | AC 21 | T 12 | FF 19 | F +9 | R +9 | W +6 | I +4 | P +10

"Easy Robin. I fear what it returns to, to report." Rogar says.

Inactive

"If only we could track it, I'm sure it would take us straight back to Nualia!" Robin continues to tinker and tamper about the room.

Female Elf Wizard, 3, Per +4, Init +3, AC 13, Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +1 (Familiar: Raven) HP (18)21 (3/8 acid darts)

Tinuviel perks up at the Jester's words.

Elven:
Kvothe, dear, see if you can find that thing, please? And be careful.

The raven flutters off in search of the quasit.

Kvothe's perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29

The doors in the cathedral open easily and are untrapped. They lead to small 10x10 chambers that must once have been storage room or robing chambers, but are now completely empty.

Trying to track the quasit, Kvothe flies out of the cathedral, through the shrine area outside, then down the corridor and to the room with the statue of the angry woman. From their, it appears, the quasit went through the door on the north, which the raven cannot open.

The orange triangular pool which glows with a dim incandescence, is quite obviously magically, and it's aura is overwhelmingly strong. The magic is so powerful that neither Robin, nor any of the group, can determine it's aura, or identify the magical purpose behind it.

Female Elf Wizard, 3, Per +4, Init +3, AC 13, Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +1 (Familiar: Raven) HP (18)21 (3/8 acid darts)

When Kvothe returns, Boo and her have a brief conversation. Then Boo gestures. "It went this way. Kvothe could not follow it through a closed door. We might want to block that door, at least temporarily."

F Human Shoanti [AC: 23/12 tch/21 ff; HP 83/95; Frt +9, Ref +5, Will +13; Perc +19/21 vs creatures] Cleric 10, Init:+1, Diplo +8, Heal +15, Sense Motive +15

Cadas first channels to heal (I think Smoke is the only one wounded, right?) and then pronounces I need to rest before continuing. I know Sandpoint is threatened, but we will the town no good if we perish because we are out of resources. Let us go back to town and resupply and prepare to come back in the morning. I hope cold iron weapons are available in town.

Channel: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 5) = 6

Inactive

Robin nods in agreement. "Let's block the door, and come back tomorrow."

Which door do you block or how do you barricade the tunnel?

After barricading the entrance as best they can, the weary group retreats to the Rusty Dragon for an evening of relaxation and recuperation. Not surprisingly, Ameiko is not present at the inn, but the staff and the baths more than make up for her absence.

You rest well, but your dreams are troubled by the thoughts of the evil quasit and those vile monstrosities under the ground.

Let me know if you have plans for the night, I assume you trundle your weary bones off to bed ASAP, but if you want to see, meet or explore then just pass it along.

Inactive

I think the plan is to get some loose rocks and dirt to barricade the door the quasit used, if that's possible.

"So, who wants to come on a cold iron shopping spree?" Robin skips and tumbles his way toward Savah's.

Robin is plopping down 32gp, 1sp to buy a cold-iron longsword, 20 cold-iron arrows, and 10 bags of powder.

**Edit** He might as well sell his other longsword to get back 8.2gp.

F Human Shoanti [AC: 23/12 tch/21 ff; HP 83/95; Frt +9, Ref +5, Will +13; Perc +19/21 vs creatures] Cleric 10, Init:+1, Diplo +8, Heal +15, Sense Motive +15

Pick me up a cold iron trident Robin. Cadas counts out the coin to do so.

Male Human Barbarian 2; AC 14, 11 touch 13 flat-footed; HP 21/27, Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +0; +2 trait vs. fear; +1 Initiative, +5 Perception
Raging:
AC 12, 9 touch 11 flat-footed; HP 14/16, Fort +6, Ref +1, Will +2; +2 trait vs. fear

"I wouldn't be adverse to a cold iron something-- maybe a warhammer? That sounds about right. Tell me how much they haggle with you for it, and I'll pay you back."

Ugh, more buying things math. I offered you a 10% discount and/or mark-up at Savah's right? If so then Robin's purchases are a 30gp cold-iron longsword, 2 gp for 20 CI arrows, and 1 sp for 10 bags of powder this equals 32.1 before discount and 28.89 gp with discount. The resale of his used Longsword is 15/2=7.5 x 1.1=8.25. The net transaction is 20.6
4 cost. This leaves Robin with 88.15 gp

Cadas' CI trident is 27 gp and Smoke's CI warhammer costs him 21.6 gp. Any other purchases? These have all been recorded in the Loot Tracker.

Robin's trip to the weaponry store yields the requested and sought for items.

Any other adventures, or are you ready to turn the page to next day?

Female Elf Wizard, 3, Per +4, Init +3, AC 13, Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +1 (Familiar: Raven) HP (18)21 (3/8 acid darts)

Tinuviel can not think of anything to buy, which is rather odd.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4 | HP 30/30 | AC 21 | T 12 | FF 19 | F +9 | R +9 | W +6 | I +4 | P +10

CI should be Masterwork, per the rules. However, I'm cool with it not being.

Rogar picks up a dwarven boulder helmet. It should be 18 gold with the discount..

Regarding CI as MW, do you have a link or rule reference for that, cuz I thought so too but couldn't find it explicitly stated anywhere. OK, on the helmet.

Male Dwarf Ranger 4 | HP 30/30 | AC 21 | T 12 | FF 19 | F +9 | R +9 | W +6 | I +4 | P +10

I'm wrong, it's Mithral, Cold Iron is just x2 and an extra 2k to enchant the first time.

Ready for another day!

Morning, 5 Rova 4707 Absalom Reckoning

Yesterday, which started with the disappearance of Ameiko and a fight in the Glassworks and ended up with with a demon familiar and some strange aberrant monsters, seems far away as you awaken in the Rusty Dragon.

The morning is one of those late summer days where the air is perfect and the cool breeze tells of the fall to come. That perfect weather belies how things stand in Sandpoint.

After barricading the tunnels under the Glassworks, and leaving guardsmen at the mouth, you gear up with weapons to stop the quasit and prepare to head back in to finish the job.

Bethany and Morris serve you another hot breakfast but the owner is again not to be seen.

Any in-town business before you go back to the Catacombs? If not, begin by telling me where you start, things may have changed down there overnight...

F Human Shoanti [AC: 23/12 tch/21 ff; HP 83/95; Frt +9, Ref +5, Will +13; Perc +19/21 vs creatures] Cleric 10, Init:+1, Diplo +8, Heal +15, Sense Motive +15

Cadas is a follower for this decision. I may revise spell selection. Oh, and before sleeping Cadas would have used her remaining channels to help get Smoke cured up. I think she had three left. If she had fewer, just use the appropriate number. I need to do better record keeping in general as I always think I will remember resources used, but the pbp pace is just too slow and I often forget. I'll start keeping better notes.

Channel: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 5) = 15

The better rested heroes make their way down to the Glassworks and nod to the soldiers posted at the tunnel entrance. AS they make their way back down the long tunnel, ignoring the other branches, they eventually find themselves back in rough-hewn caverns and then cross over into the exceptionally well built catacombs. They stand in the room with the red statue of the angry woman holding the ranseur and turn north to face the door behind which their prey from yesterday escaped.

Can I safely assume you channeled everyone up to full HP yesterday? Also Cadas and Tinuviel can you give your list of prepared spells for today?

EDIT:Just saw Cadas ninja'ed me by a few seconds. Note:I am keeping pretty close records and try to use the post combat summary to keep everyone on track, don't kill yourself with record keeping unless you just can't help it.

don't you have 4+1 1st level spells? I only count 2 above.

Perception Take 20+8=28
Survival Take 20+8=28

Rogar:
After a long time searching around this room and the doorway, Rogar is convinced that there has been a signficant amount of foot traffic through her recently. The feet aren't human, but perhaps of those abominations seen before in this dungeon. Perhaps as many as 3-4 different creatures through here, but it's hard to be certain.

Did we ever figure out the pool and font in that last room?
