Rikar’s eyes go wide as Latys transforms into a wholly different creature, though he manages to keep his cool about it to some degree. ”I always say you’re full of surprises, girl, but this is really something.” He doesn’t have time to say much more before he’s flung at the glittering dragon before him! Drawing back his scythe as he flies, he swings over and over at the Nameless One!

Full attack (since my movement was provided by Telekinetic Charge), using ranger Quarry ability. I’m assuming the Nameless One is undead, if not, take out the Bane attack and damage bonuses.

Summary of Buffs on Rikar
Quarry (class ability): +2 on attacks, all critical threats automatically confirm
heroes' feast 14 temporary hit points. +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and Will saves and a +4 morale bonus on saving throws against poison and fear effects for 12 hours.
freedom of movement Allows normal movement even in spite of movement impeding magical effects, and subject auto-succeed to escape grapples/pins.
greater heroism +4 morale bonus on attack rolls, saves, and skill checks, immunity to fear effects, and temporary hit points equal to your caster level (14 in this case)
good hope a +2 morale bonus on saving throws, attack rolls, ability checks, skill checks, and weapon damage rolls. (this supersedes the bonus from heroes' feast, but doesn't last as long.
weapon of awe +2 sacred bonus on damage rolls, and if the weapon scores a critical hit, the target of that critical hit becomes shaken for 1 round with no Saving Throw
energy resistance 30 to fire, cold, electricity, and acid
communal tongues
improved invisibility
air walk
darkvision

Totals should be something like: 28 temp hit points, +4 on attack rolls, saves, skills checks, and damage rolls, +2 on ability checks.

I'm going to wait a bit to hear about how to post for Latys/Aurebaor, since there could be many differences. If Latys has been Aurebaor all along, then we should be able to do our usual flanking approach (if there's room), but I'd like to know how to play it.

Narrator [Maps, handouts, pictures: Links in top of page spoiler]

@All - Aurebaor (ie. Latys) is a gold dragon. She polymorphed herself into a big cat and faked it so she would be here with you at end. Also, the Nameless Wyrm is NOT undead, so no undead bane damage (I will remove the 2d6 from each of the damage rolls above. I provided the wyrm stats in the first combat post spoiler above, other than HP). You can resubmit your post if the glitterdust makes a difference as Misha was first up (Telman!).

Will, DC 22: 1d20 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 16 + 2 = 30 11 damage, all to temp hp. Current at full hp of 324, plus 3 remaining temp hp.

Latys – or Aurebaor, as the Nameless One called her – shrugs off the effect of the unholy blight, and pays no mind at all to the massive wave of fire that washes over her. Just before Rikar hurtles through the air at their awful foe, Aurebaor extends a great claw and taps her long-time companion with it, granting him some protection in the fight. The mighty gold dragon then closes on the hated Nameless One.

Cast displacement on Rikar, then move action to get into reach.

Summary of Buffs on Latys:
Heroes' Feast 14 temporary hit points. +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and Will saves and a +4 morale bonus on saving throws against poison and fear effects for 12 hours.
freedom of movement Allows normal movement even in spite of movement impeding magical effects, and subject auto-succeed to escape grapples/pins.

energy resistance 30 to cold, electricity, and acid

darkvision

Totals should be: 14 temp hit points, +2 on attack rolls, saves, skills checks, ability checks and damage rolls.

Note, Aurebaor has an ability that gives all good creatures within 60’ a +1 luck bonus to saves, so include that in your buffs if you don’t already have a luck bonus.

RETRO
The wave of confidence Telman rides through the portal is quickly replaced with waves of nausea. As the companions scramble into action against the foe hiding somewhere in the darkness, he mutters "Oh no you don't ...." Suddenly a golden outline of the beast comes into being, and with a grim smile the archer says "Oh, thats better."

He centers himself, thinking about strong magical aura Therena's presence gives off. Looking to test the dragon he fits a single arrow to the string and fires. Then again. Then again.....

The dragons quickened spell and fiery breath takes its toll on the group, but thankfully no one, excepting Therena summons, goes down from the onslaught.

Misha quickly moves away from the others to the edge of the cavern and casts a glitterdust spell on where she last saw the dragon, and while it is not sickened, the dust sparkles and the dragon is now easy to pinpoint.

Telman quickly fires five arrows at the creature that he is now able to see clearly, but only hits it twice.

Josef speaks an arcane word, and then he grows into a duplicate of Aurebaor and moves up to be in melee range of the Nameless one.(You did not take your move action, so if this is incorrect and you wished to stay back, let me know in your next post)

Therena moves to be behind some of the stalagmites in the cavern, and then casts a spell on Rikar which moves him at great speed to be next to the dragon as if he were charging.

On the way past him, Aurebaor touches the ranger with a claw and Rikar is also displaced. The dragon then moves to be within melee range of Nameless.

Suddenly next to his foe, Rikar swings six times, hitting twice, damaging Nameless.

Deciding that the small human next to him is the greater threat at the moment, Nameless bites and claws at Rikar, however the displacement throws off his aim and only one claw reaches the ranger.

DRB – Rikar’s max HP is 209, not 173. I thought I put that in my last post, but apparently didn’t. In any case, his current HP should be 36 higher as a result.

Rikar breathes a quick sigh of relief as Latys’ spell (Latys’ spell? That’s just a weird thought to have) causes all but one of the deadly strikes to miss. He does his best to hit more and harder than the dragon, with mixed results.

DRB – another thought, amidst all the complicated variables to track in this fight. Rikar is under improved invisibility (which actually means the displacement was unnecessary, but I didn’t know that, which is realistic). Since the dragon only has blindsense, it can’t see him, so it is denied its Dex bonus to AC. That may not matter for such a big creature, but I thought I’d mention it.

Unless the Dex issue causes more attacks to hit, that looks like 76 damage, since the fire damage won't get through. I'm kind of missing my Stealth Attack damage from flanking with my trusty animal companion...

Aurebaor unleashes all his attacks at Nameless, doing some significant damage.

Rikar swings at the dragon, and while he hits only twice, with the additional damage due to Therena spell, he hurts the creature.

Nameless roars, that two of his targets hurt him, but also the tiny aasimar woman healed one of them, so he slaps her with his tail while he full attacks Rikar with his bite and claws. Therena goes down and is bleeding out, while Rikar is clawed only once.

Misha looks with alarm as Therena is batted to the other end of the cave like a rag doll. "You'll pay for that!"

Misha sees the woman is still breathing as she lands. She decides she will help her as soon as she can, but focuses on other tactics, as she does not want to heal the woman minorly only to expose her to another attack, or risk them both trying to carry her away without preparation.

Taking advantage of the air walk spell upon her, Misha walks higher into the air, a little further back (walk 15 feet "uphill").

She then casts sonic form upon herself, becoming an incorporeal dwarven Misha made of visible sound waves. 17 rounds

DRB--for future reference, but I am not attempting this now--I have the spell shadow step which is an illusion spell that allows instantaneous travel (but it is not a conjuration/teleport spell). The target is "you." If I pick up an unconscious person, can I use the spell to transport both myself and the person? Or would it still only work on me?

Yes. There is no limitation in the spell text, so as long as you can carry / lift the weight, you can "travel" with it.

Telman sees Misha assessing their fallen comrade, probably thinking though the same things he is himself. This one arrow at a time nonsense isn't helping the battle much so bringing Therena to her feet might help but minor amounts of healing she can provide would not be enough to protect her from the next blast. Inching forward he trusts Misha's instincts to continue fighting and tries yet again to break through the creature's defenses.

Misha, seeing that Therena is still alive, moves up into the air using air walk, and casts a spell on herself, becoming an incorporeal dwarven Misha made of visible sound waves.

Telman, coming to the same conclusion as Misha, fires arrows at the Nameless one, hitting twice this time.

Josef tries a cold spell, but the creatures natural resistance to spells is too difficult for him to overcome right now.

Therena, when she finishes her tumbling from the tail slap, stabilizes and stops bleeding out.

Aurebaor, continues her all out attack on the foe, but only damaging him a little.

Rikar however, even though he hits the creature only twice also, does critical damage with his second strike and wounds the creature.

Enraged at the damage done to him by the human with the scythe, Nameless full out attacks Rikar damaging him severely.

Misha sees the blood seeping from the dragon's wounds, and while distracted for seemingly much too long by the sound of Therena's thudding and Rikar's cries of pain, she realizes the most expedient way to help everyone is help this thing die as quickly as possible.

She cries, "For Fiall, for Dain, for Bromen, and for all the Athan people!" and, pulling out her swords, charges at it from mid-air. She brings down the blades, but rather than slash at it, she lets her sonic form reverberate as she jabs at the dragon, attacking it with pure sound.

Swift action for arcane strike, free to maintain archeologist's luck, Initiate charge as full action. The attack I will use is sonic form's melee touch attack, which deals sound damage. I believe since it is a melee attack I can add other regular bonuses I can add to melee.

Sonic Damage, archeologist's luck, arcane strike: 1d6 + 17 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 17 + 4 + 3 = 28

With Therena down, and Rikar badly wounded, the groups hopes are that you can bring the beast down before it kills Rikar and Therena with its breath again.

Before Rikar has a chance to act, Telman continues to pepper it with arrows, and Josef does minor damage with his breath weapon. Aurebaor bites and buffets the creature with a wing, but the coup d'grace comes from the bard as she charges the dragon in her sonic form, reaches out and touches it, causing the dragon to roar and reach back as if not believing it is defeated.

Then it smiles; (Nameless:) "I have been here for a millennia of millennia, since I slew the Wolf God, Gamageth at the beginning of time. The followers of the gentler gods have won the day. I move on to the next cycle of existence now." Then taking his last breath, "It feels right. I wish...... and his voice fades away, as your vision blurs and the dragon begins to decay, until finally all turns black.

Floating in air, and seemingly both weightless and heavy, you pass out. Suddenly you awake in a field to the north of the mountain. Everyone is as they were; Misha back in normal form, Therena healed enough to stand, and Aureboar still a dragon.

Surrounding you are dragons of every color and hue. At least one of the ten major types. Aurebaor stands and address the group; (Aurebaor:) "My friends, you have freed us from the dominion of the Dragon Lord. We will leave you in peace. Go with the thanks of all dragon kind in this land." He then turns to Rikar, "I was proud to travel with you" as he removes a scale from his side, and twists it into the shape of a horn. "Blow this if you need me for anything and I will come to you. Be careful, as it only works once." He then roars at the other dragons, both colorful and metallic and they all take to wing and leave.

"Maybe just this once, it's ok to let our guard down. For a moment." He slides his bow into the enchanted quiver and drops to the ground next to Misha.

"Or two......."

Once the dragons are gone, Therena flops to the ground and rolls amid the wildflowers, laughing giddily. Waves of channeling emanate from her, healing burns and injuries. She then starts picking flowers by the dozens and braiding little crowns for everybody.

Rikar, badly bloodied, breathes a sigh of relief as Misha’s strike lays the Nameless One low. He drops his scythe to the ground before sitting down himself, his head back as he exults quietly in the defeat of such a great evil.

When he comes to in the field, finally back out in the open air, he marvels at how far they’ve come...and what Latys has become. When the gold dragon speaks to the group, and then gifts him with a horn crafted from his own scale, Rikar stands silent, overcome by emotion. As Aurebaor finishes speaking, Rikar lays a hand on the dragon’s neck and gives a firm double pat, just as he did many times a day to the great cat who fought at his side for so long. A tear slides down the Shoanti man’s cheek as he says, very quietly, ”Good girl.”

When the dragons fly off, Rikar watches in amazement, using the time to collect himself a bit before turning to his companions. ”My friends,” he says, his eyes warm with affection for them all, ” we’ve done a great thing here. As Latys, er, Aurebaor said, I am proud to have walked by your side. Just as Mishinika’s life calls to her, I have things I must do. I began this quest searching for my lost love, and I hope one day to find her, and perhaps to reconcile with my clan if the fates are kind. But I expect our paths will cross again in this world, and I shall be glad when they do.”

"Whew. I never, in my wildest dreams, thought this adventure would end up like that. A massive dragon of doom, and slain by your hands like that? Amazing. I admit, my magic was a bit underwhelming there, but I'm glad you we able to make up for my shortfalls. And now, with the prohibition against teleportation lifted, we can go anywhere in the world you might want!"

Josef drops his bags and unclips his blade from its baldric, then sits down heavily next to the group.

"But that can wait a bit, I think. For now, let's just have a rest, eh?"
