Alaric claps his gauntlet to Roldare's shoulder and gives the scrawny man a brief shake. His eyes light up. "I rode for the Crown and the Lion, master Roldare. My very oath bids me rescue you and your, er..." he grimaces, taking in Roldare's haggard appearance. "ahem... your er, maiden fair."
He turns to the others "Come! There's still time to rescue the girl if we hurry..."
Seeing Ugnoth throw the creature off balance, Alaric will press the attack. He lets his shield drop to the floor, gripping his flail overhead and bringing the heavy weight down on the beetle's carapace.

"Have at it!" Ramli yells. "Foul critter, trying to feast on the poor dead."
He pushes forward and slams his staff down on the beetle.

Sad Rock and Ugnoth both rush in, but their powerful swings deflect off the beetle's thick carapace.
Alaric and Ramli rush in as wave two, and ash the flail swings down with a sickening crunch, Ramli's staff darts directly into the beast's head with an even more sickening splorch as beetle brains splatter all over the foursome's armor.
The wings flutter for a second as the beetle meekly coughs out several gallons of acid - presumably which it intended to spray all over you all had it not been executed so swiftly.
Combat is over!
Searching the body of the dead villager finds little in the way of identification or of note or value. The debris pile seems to be made entirely of refuse (no need to roll Perception here).
The two methods of continuing deeper into the crypt appear to be the door to the south or the open stairs to the west.

Sad looks down at the beetle in open wonder...a small tear on his face.
"Sorry, little buggy. You not monster like Sad. I mean, Sad not monster too. You just in the way. Sorry."
Sad sniffles a bit while dragging the body out the main walkway and towards a place where it can rot in peace.
"Find peace and be reborn, buggy," Sad blesses weepily for the death an innocent bug that lived in darkness...not so unlike Sad at one time.
Sad, still sad, takes up a position near the back, too sad to lead.

Ugnoth steps up ahead of Alaric to take the lead while Sad drifts to the back in quiet contemplation of the beetle's demise.
The door swings open easily and the five Pathfinders proceed down the hallway which turns to their left before opening into a somewhat smoky room beyond.
The remains of a small fire smolder in the center of this broad chamber, letting off a plume of oily smoke. Fed by a heap of burning gear, debris, and more than few bones, the fire casts a flickering light across the walls of this room, partially obscured by the veil of smoke.
Ugnoth's eyes begin to water slightly from the thick smoke and as he reaches to rub them, he heads a rattling hiss swiftly growing louder as it approaches them.
"Deeeeeaaaaathhhh..."
A shadowy form leaps at the Shoanti from the shadows, raking its incorporeal claw across his chest. He feels colder. Weaker. (1 strength damage)
DC13 Knowledge Religion to identify the creature as a Shadow. 18+ gets you one question about its weaknesses/strengths (your pick).

He rushes forward to the room's far corner and casts quickly, the words of arcane power falling from his lips in a crackling voice like fire. As he finishes, a streak of green energy shoots through his staff, aimed toward the shadow.

Sad Rock hesitates for the briefest moment as Alaric infuses some glory into Ugnoth. Ramli darts into the room as the shadowy form reaches out and grips the magus's shoulder. Cold pain shoots into his body, but stumbling forward, he fires a bolt of positive energy at the undead horror.
Unfortunately, this seems to get its attention as the shadow simply glides across the room and digs into Ramli's chest with an outstretched hand. Ramli feels very, very cold and very, very weak. Total of 11 strength damage there.
"I feed, yes! Join me for eternity!"

Son of a ... How did I moving through a threatened area? That was a crap plan, me...
Ramli blanches as he feels his strength leave him, nearly collapsing to the ground.
"Bloody bastard," he gasps, trying to move away from the creature even as he does his best to defend himself. Five foot step to T-23, total defense, so touch AC 16.

I was wondering what you were doing just breezing past a shadow, but it may be a good plan as it breaks open the combat so more people can get involved...
While Sad moves into the room, Ugnoth rushes up to attempt to save Ramli, but his earthbreaker just narrowly deflects off the creature.

This way!" he shouts, weaving past it to U24 and, clutching at the only holy relics on his person drives them into the Shadow's twisting form.

It grasps at the knight for a moment before floating down into the floor.

Realizing if they don't act quickly, either Alaric or Ramli may soon be joining the world of shadowy undead, Ugnoth and Damvorak move into a better position to strike.
Ugnoth's blow comes away with a tail of wispy matter, while Damvorak's staff crackles at it strikes the central essence of the shadow.
With a final clawing hiss, it grasps in futility at Alaric as it dissolves into nothingness.
Alaric can keep his spell since it was defeated before his action.
Combat over! Congratulations, you survived your literal brush with death!
A glint of metal can be seen shimmering both next to the fire and amid the ashes.
The first glint appears to be a small scorched key, while the item within the ashes is a finely crafted dagger.
Otherwise, this room appears to be a dead end with no other visible exits.

Sad smiles at Ramli.
"That okay, Rumknee. You walk with Sad. We can go slow together," Sad says, trying to be helpful. "Sad help you not die. Sad promise."
Sad takes his time looking for secret doors while others ponder the key and what it means.

"Yes, Uglynot. Sad take care of Rumknee."
Sad will pick up Rumknee and prepare to follow the group to wherever is next.
Ramli--I don't think strength penalty, by rules, applies to encumbrance and the like. However, Sad is happy to help carry stuff as needed. His speed is already 15' and won't be going much quicker.

Sad has the right of it. 1 point of ability damage has no mechanical impact on a PC.
Falling back and crossing over the stairs, the party emerges into another room.
One half of this lofty chamber has a lowered floor, with stairs on either side to reach the bottom. Standing opposite the door is a tall wooden statue of Kassen (the town's founder) grasping a gigantic wooden shield in each hand.
One of the shields is inscribed with the word "home," while the other reads "family."
Two closed wooden doors provide exits to the north and south.
I have Ugnoth both carrying the key and the magic dagger, let me know if that's incorrect.

"... home and family..." Alaric murmurs, his fingers absentmindedly tracing their way to his pointed ear before he snaps. "Bah! This is a waste of time!"
Turning away and setting his jaw, Alaric stomps toward the south door.

Sad Rock, Ugnoth and Alaric all begin to step down the stairs for a closer look at the wooden statue and the southern doors.
As Sad Rock steps off the last step onto the landing, the golem suddenly shifts and springs to life, stepping forward. As it does so, an audible click can be heard as it shifts its weight from a pressure plate and suddenly each of the steps pivots and flattens forming a 45-degree slide where previously stairs existed.
DC10 Acrobatics check for Alaric and Ugnoth. If you fail, you'll begin the first round prone in the square you are standing in. Otherwise, you're standing in that square as normal as you land on your feet at the bottom of the "slide".
The golem immediately lurches at Sad Rock, swinging both of its shield-bearing hands at the oread. (Yet, four of you will act before it)

The ledge is a 10ft drop for those wishing to jump down. If you slide down the slide, it's a DC10 Acrobatics check to remain standing at the bottom. Climbing up the slide is a DC10 Climb check, or scaling the 10ft wall is a DC15 Climb check.
Knowledge Arcana can be used to ask questions about the golem. Beating DC18 grants one question, DC23 for two questions, and so on.

Sad saddens as his father-statue comes to life...and is a jerk.

He swings his mighty skull-tipped club at the golem.

As Sad's club slams against the wooden monstrosity, it rebounds off the wooden frame slightly, not crunching with as much satisfaction as he is normally used to when clubbing evil druids, river drakes or Razmirans.
(There was some DR that was not overcome by a bludgeoning weapon, although some damage did go through)

"Well, let's see if that thing can burn, eh?" Ramli says with a grin.

Alaric, bracing himself with his shield, manages to keep his feet as the trapped stairs try to trip him up. He does not seem to mind as the rough stone walls scratch away the brightly coloured heraldry. "This oversized log has vexed me long enough... Burn it to smoulders, Ramli!"
