Jarha Madu |
Sorry for being incommunicado, but fortunately Jarha had nothing to add. I will put together a short post tomorrow. Happy new year!
Segang |
Well, ok then. :)
Segang takes another level of barbarian.
HP: 1d7 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 Yes!
His con goes up +1 to 16, making him a true meat shield with 129 hp befre he rages and 153 while raging.
His BAB goes up by 1 to +8/3 and his fort save increases by 2 total (1 for the level and one for the increase to con.) And his power attack increases too which means 3 more damage on a power attack.
He gains a new rage power. I'll have to consider that for a little while. Considering taking the beast totem chain to get pounce but that requires 3 rage powers and the lesser totem power of claws is not that great. Thoughts?
Stills: 5 skill points
+1 Diplomacy
+2 Acrobatics
+1 Intimidate
+1 Perception
Seren Dypethe |
- Active spells: Mage Armor, Veil
- Spells remaining: Clr Spry x2, Frcd Quiet. M Arm, vent, laugh, det tht, create pit, stone disc, invis, hyp pat, twi haze, dispel, major image, haste, fly, Sh Ench, DD, Shad Conj, PK, Sh Inv ,
Sh Evoc x2, Br Ench, Teleport - Binding Darkness: 9/9, Veil Pool: 7/10, Pearl: 1/1, Extend Rod: 3/3
- ***HARROW POINTS***: 4
This is a strong level for Segang. I like pounce but feat/power taxes are annoying. What would be your alternatives? More defensive minded?
Seren will take a third level of veiled illusionist gaining auditory enhancement to his veils.
+1 Int making it 22, adding to DCs and skill points
Gain access to 4th level spells and increased memorization
Taking shadow conjuration and phantasmal killer ad free spells this level.
1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 hit points plus favored class bonus
Skills:8 ranks
Stealth
Perception
Disguise
Bluff
Spellcraft
Disable
Fly
Knowledge arcana

*DING* LEVEL-UP!
I'm taking another level in Brawler for Absinthe, putting her at Rogue 6 / Brawler 2.

Base atk. +1 (+6)
Fort. +1 (+7)
Ref. +1 (+12)
Ability upgrade: Str. +1 (14)
Brawler bonus feat: Combat reflexes
Class feature: Brawler's flurry (Two-weapon fighting when using unarmed strikes, close Fighter group weapons and/or Monk weapons)
Skill ranks 4 + 1 Int. (5)
+1 Acrobatics (+15)
+1 Disable device (+19)
+1 Intimidate (+9)
+1 Perception (+11)
+1 Stealth (+17)

The more I think about it the more I think I need to do the Beast Totem route. That was my original plan. Reckless Abandon would let me trade 3 points of AC for +3 to hit. Its sorta the opposite of Combat Expertise, but I am not sure I need the pulses to hit.
I did want to ask about the possibility of training out of Cleave and picking up Combat Reflexes. Is retraining an option? Cleave just seldom comes up.
Melianthe Ssulissien |
HP: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
+1 to Int making it 21.
Fort +1 (+4)
Ref +1 (+4)
Will +1 (+7)
New Hex: Ward
New free spells: Fly, for a melee'er, and Crushing Despair (and Confusion, for patron spell)
Skill points:
+1 Fly
+1 Intimidate
+1 Kn Arcana
+1 Kn Planes
+1 Perception
+1 Spellcraft

I'll buy a scroll and learn it ... cheaper that way. Better for the free spells to be the higher level ones.

Ultimate Campaign -- Retraining
That's fine, IAW rules linked above. Will cost money and time, but no problem as long as its not a pre-requisite for another feat.
Segang |
You may change one feat to another through retraining. Retraining a feat takes 5 days with a character who has the feat you want. The old feat can't be one you used as a prerequisite for a feat, class feature, archetype, prestige class, or other ability. If the old feat is a bonus feat granted by a class feature, you must replace it with a feat that you could choose using that class feature.
OK. So I need 5 days to train at a cost of 80 X or 400 gp. Hey, Ab can train me. Do I pay her? :)
Since I am not in a hurry perhaps we can train in down time while we adventure. Even if it takes 2 or 3 times longer that is fine.

Yeah, but no... consider it a 'sunk cost' for the training itself.
You can start working at it in your down time. I don't think it specifies that the required duration is consecutive. You should have time enough in between chapters, also.
Jarha Madu |
Great! I need to work out all the details, but Jarha will be expanding into the air element at this level (with unlimited flight being the eventual goal down the line).
Jarha Madu |
Hit Points: 1d5 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
BAB +1
+1 CON
Expanded element: air (Basic Aerokinesis, electric blast)
Skills: +1 knowledge (local), perception, sleight of hand, stealth, disable device
I'll update my profile later...

Salvatore did not say he saw him headed there, but he did suggest that Vencarlo was on the trail of Neolandus Kalepopolis (the Seneshcal of Castle Korvosa under King Eodred II) and because Salvatore arranged for Neolandus to have asylum with House Arkona it stands to reason that Arkona Palace will give clues about the whereabouts of both Vencarlo and Neolandus. And of course Neolandus is a close source of information about Queen Ileosa's coup, and she seems to be our ultimate foe. Finally, one interesting detail I overlooked is that Neolandus told Salvatore that the Queen "entered into an alliance with the Red Mantis," so it may be that she sent the Red Mantis after Vencarlo. It may be they never found Vencarlo at all if he had already gone to House Arkona by that point.
Segang |
Thanks for that summary Jarha. I think I knew all that but with the slower pace of PBP I was having trouble recalling everything.
Nomad Sage |

Amin told you Vencarlo faced the Red Mantis when his academy got torched.
Great summary of the mystery clues so far! Yeah, it's easy to lose track with the slow pace, but the info is there if you go mine for it.
Jarha Madu |
Thanks! So the assassins left behind may have been waiting to see if Vencarlo returned, which suggests to me that he got away. And he may have gone to Palace Arkona to look for Neolandus.

I am leaving for a 10 day trip tomorrow. My posting will be limited to shorter posts from an iPad and likely only in the evenings. Please bot me if I get behind. I travel home on the 17th and should be back to normal on the 18th.
Segang |
Another trip...
I leave for New York City around noon tomorrow and from there will leave for 11 days in China on Wednesday. I will be back late on Saturday April 7 and begin to catch up on April 8th. And yes I know I just got back from a trip.
I will have an iPad with me (better than posting from a phone) and should have internet most of the time but there are three days that are remote so I am almost sure I will not have internet all the time. I will do my best to post some but please both me instead of waiting for me. This is my last trip longer than a long weekend I have planned for the entire year.

Are you telling us that the Segang world tour is coming to a close?!
Segang |
In shanghai at the moment. Air quality was good today but it was foggy so the sky line was obscured some. Hoping for a good view of the city lights tonight. Long travel day tomorrow. Shanghai to Beijing to New York to Charlotte to Huntsville AL. Alarm goes off at 5 am. I don’t land until 11:30 pm and there is a 12 hour time difference. Let’s see, that is 30.5 hours and I still have to get my luggage and get home. That is the other side of travel.

At least you will be tired at the right time!
Segang |
I am back home after a 32 hour travel day on Saturday with no sleep. Crazy. But slept 11 hours Sunday. It will take a day or two to adjust I think.Ready to jump back into daily postings.
Segang |
I had a 2 hour Chinese lesson about mid week the first week. Wow, that stuff is hard. Thank Goodness for Google Translate. Of course you cannot access Google behind the Great Firewall...
Absinthe Mooneyes |
Hey Melianthe, would you consider purchasing Lightning bolt and Ice spears? Both 3rd-level spells, both good for some area effect.
Melianthe Ssulissien |
Next time we're somewhere we can buy them. The thing is that witches are not as set up to be the evoker-damage dealers; we have Segang and to some extent Abby and Jarha in those roles, and Mel should be buffing and debuffing. And not getting hit. :D Right now she has Blink, Fly, and Fly for 3rd level, memorized, and Confusion, Summon Monster IV x2 for 4th level. Confusion's a patron spell. SMIV is great for adding combatants and I can bring those in for the next encounter. Hound archons, quite useful.
Jarha Madu |
It is true that witches can be excellent buffers and debuffers, as this battle demonstrated with Segang. And, as I understand it, next battle one of the rest of us can get the benefit of fortune, or a single opponent could get misfortune. Jarha's role definitely includes significant ranged damage dealing, but Absinthe is right we lack great area effect spells.
Absinthe Mooneyes |
I'm running a witch or two myself, and I am grateful to Mel for showing me Vomit swarm in action. ^_^
