The tower of a man looks you over and after a second smiles, Yes, she is here but these are dangerous times. Her lordship was attacked last night, the assassin lays dead, but not before he could wound her. Come follow me.
He leads you to a balcony overlooking the harbor. The view is magnificent and on this rare clear day you can see to the distant horizon. A panoply of colorful sails dots the abnormally calm sea. The sight is truely magnificent.
Standing on the balcony, Tessa turns when you arrive. A large bandage wraps about her waist. I hope you have some good news to bring, this has been a trying day indeed.
Dimitrious Black
Sorry to hear of your incident last night, We did find out that our nemesis Barnabus is a spy and has been supplying Cheliax with his ill gotten information
"Sunny"
Suny moves to offer poor Tessa a reassuring (And gentle) hug to comfort her seeing the other lass has taken a scratch.
"Does ye be wantin' us ta' be givin' shine fer more stuffs ta' aid yer soothin'?" Sunny asks quietly.
MichaelCullen
Tessa, looks at you taking in what you had said. I never knew Barnabus, but he had a decent reputation, until well you I guess.
Looking at Sunny, I don't need you money if that's what your offering, but there is something you could do for me.
Looking back at the group.
I'll need some time to heal, this is no normal wound. I will also need to look into whoever did this to me. As such I do not have much time for "fun" or "sport" but the Free Captain's Regatta is coming up. If you will continue your alliance with me, I will pay for your entry.
tradition in the Shackles, and one of the few opportunities
that lesser, independent captains have to increase their
station and status among the pirates of the Shackles. The
Free Captains’ Regatta is a grueling nautical race held
among the hazardous sandbars and reefs north of the
Shackles among the dangerous currents and winds at the
southern fringes of the giant hurricane called the Eye of
Abendego. The race is open to any Free Captain with a
ship, and while many captains and ships do not f inish
the race (or even survive it), the regatta has no shortage of
competitors each year, for the rewards are truly worth the
risk—a hefty prize purse, lordship of a small island, and
a seat on the Pirate Council of the Shackles.

Suny frowns, "Is a boat race....right...?"
Yay tha' dice roller. :P
MichaelCullen
Indeed, perhaps the fiercest on Golarion. The race is held yearly. This year the Master of Gales will be hosting the race. The prize, is well, quite a prize. Should you win, you will be gifted the Lordship of a small Isle. But more importantly, a seat on the Pirate Council. So what do you say?
.Suny.
Okay.... third attempt at post is a charm, right?
Suny skips over to 'Her' Captain and offers a freindly hug.
"Well... My ship's no way near ta' be crewed so of't ta' races with me Captain I be." The tanned Elf offers. (^_^)

Sailor: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14...so close
A race eh...Well we do have another lead to follow up on but if you think it that important... Dimitrious let's the question hang in the air

Noro listens to the proposition about entering this race.
the rashe can be fireshe. some will go to any length to win. requirshes damn good sailing skill ash well ash a bit of luck.
looking to the Captain. besht be prepared, ya could looshe yer ship if yer not careful. I do all I can to keep the ship seaworthy, should you deshide to go through with it.
Noro seems confident that they stand a chance, but she also knows the dangers the crew is about to face as well.
Dimitrious Black
We were told we may find some more info at the Temple of the hidden name, city of Beachcomber on Bag island. Dimitrious replies.
MichaelCullen
Pausing for a second to consider what you said, Tessa replies, The worshippers of Norberger may indeed have more information, but what you have already uncovered is interesting in and of itself. If you wish to head to Bag isle I will not stop you, the race however will not wait. The choice is yours to make.
"Sunny"
Sunny frowns as she ponders....
"Well.. maybe we could be in'a race an' stop at tha' island on'a way back ta' here...?" She suggests after a time.
Dimitrious Black
Sounds like we are going to race Dimitrious exclaims Well ladies and gents, is there anything we need in town to prepare specifically for this race. I know we have ammo for the cannon Dimitrious says with a slight smile.
"Sunny"
"Well... we should be askin' all'a question we can be so's we's got a gooder idea about whut t'is we's gon'a meet up with in'a race. Extra sails an' extra wood an' extra mast lengths an' extra... um sails.. Oh, I said that... Um, well lots of extra stuff." She nods emphatically.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Noro smiles at the race idea. she has been in the mood for a good sail. or even a good naval engagement.
exshpect shome foul play. posshibly even shome actual combat. Noro adds.
Keep the weight low on board, we need shpeed and maneuverability. There be shecions where we could be forched into the shallowsh. keep the draft low and we should be fine.
Noro thinks for a moment. We'll be needing the shweeps, should we looshe the wind or a masht.

Local bars, dives, docks, warves and streets have plenty of information for those who know how to ask for it. Noro use your check from your above post.

Noro the iron maiden
I have shome info about the rashe, we need to meet on the ship to disshuss it. in the meantime, we will need extra shails and a preplacement masht. extra rigging would do well.
I have more info to gather about our competetorsh.
Noro will try and locate as many of the other competitors as she can. trying to get a look at the ships, sizing up the crew. and learning who the captains are.
what rolls are needed here?
.Suny.
Suny will be about helping as much as she can to prepare Captain Calah's ship for the coming 'Regatta'.
Profession Sailor:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Diplomacy:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10(+9 to gather information)
She'll also spend some time seeing to her own affairs while in such a large and bustling port of call. (^_~)

Slight of hand:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
To go about her business 'quiet like' and to hide her new toys carefully about Calah's bustling ship. If asked she'll just brightly reply,
"Is somat else t'a be helpin' in'a race!" Which isn't technically a lie or mis-truth.
(^_^)
MichaelCullen
number of competitors in port: 1d10 ⇒ 6
A number of your competitors happen to be in port with you.
Having instructed the crew to procure some extra sails, rigging, and an extra mast for good measure, Noro makes her way down through the warf district. Walking her way past crates of fish and wares from far off land she notices a young boy following her. After catching her eye the young boy sheepishly runs up to her. I know you, I saw you fight. You can hit pretty hard. I was rooting for you.
"Sunny"
"A'm seekin' a wand? It don't have to do much? Maybe work twice or thrice? But t'is to make an image? With tha' sound an'a smells an all tha' other stuff ta' be seeming so real ta' peoples?" Sunny frowns now, worrying that she might be asking too much for what the magic can do.
"An'.. is got'a be big. Like rilly big. Like ship sized bigger?" Sunny awaits his reply and explanations. Thence, once she's been shown such a wand she happily takes the Master Smithwin's instructions on how to use said wand.
(^_^)
Sunny will also buy something to help the ship and crew... Alchemical 'Seasick' potions? Something to actually pass off her shopping trip.
Aye... the pirate lass who's so evil has got to start actually showing up now, doesn't she? Sunny will also spend a small amount of time again spreading stories in a tavern or two on the way back to the ship. Something she's always tried to do along the way.
Also, how are the magic users for making the clones and altering their appearance etc?
MichaelCullen
As far as what you are talking about, simulacrum and shape simulacrum may do the trick. Clone could work to provided you could find souls to place in them. Simulacrum is 7th level vice 8th so it will be easier to find someone to cast. Thoughts?
Noro the iron maiden
As Noro checks out the ships and the cargo, she turns when the boy speaks. What? you know me? lishten, what do you want?
Noro tries to get herself and the boy out of sight of the dock workers and the other ship's crews.
.Suny.
A friend did point out a way. Something to do with simulacrum and shaped simulacrum. I note that there is now an alchemical simulacrum in conjunction with the illusion/ice simulacrum now. :)
So... 'copy' a nice/helpful teifling. Do some 'crafting' of said simulacrum to get an even better match of the image of said evil Pirate captain. Then.. again not sure of exact spell... but there is a spell that allows one to 'inhabit' or 'ride' a construct. Again, will ask friend more questions and such.
Going with the 'Ride on' simulacrum would seem better. I think it will be harder to 'kill' said character and eventually.. people will probably be trying to kill said evil Pirate Captain. (^_~)
*Skipping, skipping, skipping back to the boat and her friends* (^_^)
Dimitrious Black
Dimitrious not needing anything specifically asks the group. Is there anything specific we may need? Otherwise he will make his way to the ship.
.Suny.
Assuming Suny can reply. Potions fer soothin' peoples ills never go astray. Nor alchemical things either, Troll stryptic (Always get that spelling wrong :P ) and other nicknacks?
MichaelCullen
@Dimitrious, your way back is through the market so if you want to pick some things up that will not be a problem just let me know.
Upon your return to the harbor you find that the docks are a bit more crowded as the local fishermen have returned for the night. A small storm can be den on the horizon but that is nothing unusual here.
Anything else you want to accomplish before heading off to the start of the race?
Dimitrious Black
I am good with purchases for now
I got plenty of healing Suny, let's hope we won't be needing any
Noro the iron maiden
Noro goes to the boy. Kneeling to be eye level with him. your pop'sh schooner huh? wanna show me where it ish? you gonna be in thish rashe I am hearing about?
Noro urges to boy to show her to his pa's ship.
"Sunny"
Sunny nods, "Aye. I gots some troll stippy stuffs an' some creams an' some..." She shows off the vials, packets and satchels she's been collecting from the alchemists about town. (^_^)
MichaelCullen
@Dim, sounds good can always use some of that.
@Noro, The boy nods his head in excitement We sure are, pop's one of the fastest ships in the waters. Got a good chance this year, he says. The boy will lead you to one of the more secluded piers, tied to the pier is an immaculate schooner. Brass shining, lines taught, and crew well dressed. She is a formidable sight.
@ Suny, sounds good ;)
Noro the iron maiden
Noro smiles as she seems impressed at the ship. looking to the Boy, our Pa on board? I would like to meet him. and I may have a proposhishion for you both.
Noro also tries to catch a glimpse of the ship's name and she also looks for any possible signs that this boat has been "squibed" I think that was the term.
MichaelCullen
@Noro, I think he's aboard, come I'll take ya aboard. The boy grabs your hand and pulls until you follow him aboard.
The boy's father is indeed aboard, he looks up from behind a desk a little surprised that his son has brought someone on board. I am sorry for my son, how can I help you. He says apologetically.
Noro the iron maiden
Noro tries to get a feel for the ship as she comes aboard. she sizes up the capabilities of the crew and her Captain.
Shorry to bother ya, but thish ish a mighty nishe ship. Your biy shays yer gonna race her.
regardless of the answer...
I'm here to warn ya about shome lessh shprtshman typesh on theshe waters. I'm looking to offer a parnership. Yer crew, an mine. Alsho, I'd like to take yer boy ere ash my Cabin boy.
MichaelCullen
The boy'll stay here with me for now. After the race, we will see. If you be a lady of your word, I'll consider it. What ship will you be on in this upcoming race?
The ship looks fast and tidy. Unlike most pirate ships, this one seems to be very well kept. Nothing besides its good condition seems terribly outstanding.
Noro the iron maiden
I'm the Chief Boshun's Mate of the Malevolent Grace. If all goesh well, we will do our besht to keep the unshavory typesh from tryin' to shink ya.
After the Rashe, win or looshe, the boy worksh for me after.
Noro also ties to gauge the capability of the Captain and how dedicated he is to this ship.
Noro sees some potential here, but to just take it would be to much trouble. but to acquire it with the consent of the Captain, errr Current Captain, that could be doable.
sense motive: 1d20 ⇒ 19
know local about this ship and crew: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
MichaelCullen
@Noro, You feel that you could probably take the captain here in the cabin but it would be a decent fight. He is looking out for his son. If he determines that you will be a good influence on him then he will let him go willingly.
After the race, if you still have your honor, he may work with you. The captain replies. [/b]
The captain as any captain is fairly dedicated to his ship.
Noro the iron maiden
Noro looks to the boy, I'll agree, but only if the boy agreesh ash well. It'sh hish life, he deshervesh a shay.
.Suny.
At work. Have prolly asked before. How much shine do we have each? Will work out how many oils and unguents Sunny exactly buys then. Wishing every one all the very best! (^_^)
Other than that? Lets RACE!
Noro the iron maiden
Noro nods in agreement and heads back to her ship.
at this point we still have a captain?
Noro makes sure all is prepared for the race. including weaponry.
.Suny.
I be thinkin' "In spirit" ? :(
Noro the iron maiden
what is up? we gonna continue? I would hate for this to end...
.Suny.
Race! Race! Race! Race! (^_^)
MichaelCullen
As the race date draws close and the last competitors arrive, the city’s populace buzzes with speculation about the course for this year’s race. A couple days before race day, the announcement flies through the city that the Master of the Gales has declared Cauldron Rock, the northernmost island large enough to be marked on most maps of the Shackles, as the race’s starting point. A huge flotilla of racers and spectators sets sail northward
out of Jeopardy Bay.
Arriving at Cauldron Rock, the race fleet anchors northeast of the island. The captains of most of the competing ships disallow shore leave for their crews, but numerous spectators make merry on their ships or on a small sandy beach nearby, in spite of intermittent rain
and wind from the giant hurricane to the north.
Dimitrious Black
Dimitrious waits onboard for the race to begin
Noro the iron maiden
Noro does her best to guide the ship to be relatively near the one she was visiting earlier (you never did give the name)
will Calah be NPC'd or should Noro be temporary Captain?
,
I have no qualms/worries about Noro being captain. I also remember we said that Calah should remain on as "NPC Captain No1" (^_~)
The thing that troubles me is... what exactly were the terms for the Pirate's regatta? Having a Player representing the crew is kind of better than an NPC... So... while I'm still cheering for Captain Calah in spirit? I think it best if Captain Noro takes us through the race.
Again, wishing every one all the very best! (^_^)
MichaelCullen
It may be best to have a PC captain. If Noro is stepping up that works for me.
@ Noro, the name of the ship you visited is the Albatross.
@Suny, the Master of the Gales will lay out the terms below ;)
The afternoon before the race, the Master of the Gales calls a meeting of all competing ships’ captains and their senior officers aboard his xebec, the Kraken. An imposing man with tanned and weather-beaten skin and long, windblown hair and beard, the Master of the Gales outlines the course of the race to the competitors and supplies a simple route map to each participant. Designed to test even the most rugged crew, the regatta will take ships along the fringes of the Eye of Abendego and even into the storm itself, ending at a small islet called Coaming Point. Fixing each contestant with a icy blue stare, the Master of the Gales states in a windy voice The Free Captains’ Regatta is a nautical race, not a battle or an opportunity to avenge past slights. I will be monitoring the race, and any ship caught attacking or unduly interfering with another competing vessel will be disqualified, or if necessary, sunk. Nature itself will be the most dangerous enemy each contender will face.
Picture and info you would know about the Master of the Gales
