Kiko's idea is contacting her family in Magnimar and see if they know anything. The Varisian kitsune community isn't big.
The fact she probably never gets the chance is besides the point.
Actually Kiko...The kitsune population in Varisia is quite...big actually. Looking at the map on the inside front cover of Blood of the Beasts sourcebook, kitsunes live in western and southern Varisia, the Lands of the Linnorm kings, and up to the Crown of the World.
According to the same sourcebook, any offspring between a human and kitsune are always kitsune. This means that there are kitsune of other human ethnicities such as Varisian and Erutaki (Golarion's version of the Inuit people).
Daichi Konjou |
Well, I don't have that book yet (though I really should get it), it might be more a case of there being small numbers of them over a large area as well. I'd imagine that it's hard to know just how big their population is as well, considering their ability to disguise themselves.
On a gameplay note, my damage can be bludgeoning, slash, or piercing, so I pick bludgeoning for now.
Derric |
That's true. I had to look at a map of Varisia and the surrounding area in order to figure out how far kitsune are but according to the book, kitsune have been living in Avistan since the Age of Anguish, after immigrating from Tian Xia.
The map is probably showing what areas kitsune can be found in, but even then, that's a pretty big area: from the Crown of the world to western and southern Varisia is a good sizable chunk of northwestern Avistan.
Kiko Kaijitsu-Qun |
I know they spread far and wide and they come in different human ethnicities. Kiko herself is is half Tian, from her human father, and half Varisian (with traces of Tian) from her Kitsune mother.
Kitsune still are listed as an uncommon race within the Inner Sea region though so I guess they're still rare. As such I expect them to be a bit like larger minorities in a real world setting: It's not that everyone knows everyone but you probably know someone who knows the person you're looking for.

Hey gang; Damien here. Apologies for ghosting a while back. As I mentioned to the DM privately, I had to deal with a pretty serious illness (liver cancer). It was pretty sudden so I pretty much just focused on that to the exclusion of anything else. Anyway, I'm good now! New liver (thanks to a donor) and I've done my treatments, and I'm getting back into the swing of life (which is very exciting for me), part of which means coming back here! So if y'all will have me, Damien will ACTUALLY be able to play with y'all. Trapfinding whooooo!

Yeah, we've kinda-sorta got a tentative peace with the goblins for now; they blamed a lot of the attacks on Sandpoint and such on the 'bony men' and several of them agreed to stop if we'd take care of the goblin Chief (which we did) and if we'd take care of the 'bony men' as well. So in the grand scheme of things you've not missed a huge amount though there has been some RPing along the way :)
@Leo - Sure, we can do that! Might want to include Damien in on that as well since he's your big brother and all :)
*edit* We also found an old witch's house (Megus) since we needed her boat to get further into the swamp; as best as we could tell she met her end by playing around with some sort of transmutation/polymorph magic. And there were lots of rats and even some rat swarms! Once we took care of business there we took her boat to reach the mired ship, which is where we're at right now.

Oh wow. I'm sorry you had to go through a rough time but it's good to have you back. And looking forward to adventuring with you again. Still don't push yourself too hard.
Basically the others just summed up what happened. We pretty much made a truce with the goblins and after killing their chieftain for them (the goblins didn't like him because he was mean and was pretty much a bully), the goblins agreed to leave Sandpoint alone or else. Also the goblins are terrified of the boney men who are skeletons. Although we did have to deal with rats in the old and dead witch's home (which by the way reminded me of why I hate swarms) and my character caused the old house to collapse!
But it's good to hear that you're doing better!

Other than adding stat lines to the profile, I'm ready to roll. Just let me know when I can jump back in, GM :)

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
G'day Damien
Good to hear you're doing well again after all of that.
As for our goblin guide, Runt, Kiko is particularly fond of him. She is a former captive of the goblins and Runt was the only one who would talk to her. So while she doesn't care about the others goblins she likes him. (If at all possible she'll try to take him along and away from his awful kin)
Beyond that the others explained it pretty well.

That depends if we can keep Shalelu from killing him on sight. We all know how much she despises goblins (or anything related to goblins).
I also just got the Kitsune Compendium, which was written by the same guy who did the sourcebook Blood of the Beast. It's given me a great deal of stuff on kitsune and has given me some ideas for Derric and other kitsune character concepts I could use. I'm really looking at Additional Traits as there are some good traits I could use, if the GM is okay with 3PPs. If he isn't (I'm guessing the GM is a he; it's hard to tell in this day and age), that's alright.
Derric's human father will probably have provided his adopted son with as much information on kitsunes as he could gather or attain. I do hope that Kiko can contact her family in Magnimar. It's possible that Derric has aunts and uncles who survived (even if his parents didn't). His adopted parents pretty much gave up on finding any kitsune kin for their son, and Derric did as well, since he doesn't even remember his real parents as he was still a baby when they hid him away to keep him safe from their pursers, even if their enemies caught up to them.
Now that I think about it, what color are Kiko's eyes?
According to what I've read, the usual colors of a kitsune's eyes are golden yellows, radiant oranges, brilliant blues, vivid greens, and deep purples (copied from the Kitsune Compendium). I actually like the fact that kitsune are described as having digitigrade legs, as it gives them a unique appearance.
Derric |
I have no idea what's in there, or what Blood of the Beast holds for that matter.
As for Kiko's eye color, it's amber.
Kitsune Compendium contains info on kitsune culture, society, physiology, outlook, and customs. Very detailed actually.
Blood of the Beast contains some info but includes info on some additional features for kitsune like there's an option for all favored classes to get 1/6 towards a magical tail feat. Along with that it has details on some kitsune lore like how the children between a human and a kitsune are always human.
Both books are very well written. Kitsune Compendium is an excellent source of information on kitsune culture since once Derric finds out that Kiko is also a kitsune he'll look to her for help on learning more about his heritage.
I sent a pm to you as well btw.
Now that I think about what ethnicity are Damien and Leo? I'm guessing either Taldan, Cheliaxian, or Varisian, but I could be wrong.
Daichi Konjou |
Well, Varisian the nationality and Varisian the ethnicity are different things. Taldan and Chelaxian ethnicities are common in Varisia along with the native Varisians, with decent Tian and Ulfen populations as well.

Also, guys, just wanted to let you know this is finals week so I'm going to be MIA until Monday (if I would be introduced before then)
Derric |
My posting rate has actually slowed down a great deal because of work and the holidays. So, if I don't post, then please bot me. I'm posting this to all of my games I'm in, just to let people know. Sorry about this.
Damien Tarrant |
I'm back around with regularity so just let me know when I'll be worked back in :)
Daichi Konjou |
I think the GM posted a hook for you in his last post. You were lost in the swamp or something like that a heard our last fight.
Derric |
Nice, I had hoped Derric would pick up on that. I was in doubt whether I'd cast Light or use Dancing Lights. This clearly was the better choice.
Indeed. Now Derric will be keeping an eye on Kiko. And indeed it was the better choice.

Hey gang! I'm running a ROTR game, and it looks like our skill character is MIA. I kind of don't want to do a full recruitment so I figured I'd ping you guys and see if anyone might be interested

I'm already in a couple RotR games, but it looks like one of them is dying (no updates in a while). I could put together a skill monkey if nobody else pops up! (Obviously I'd give priority to someone who's never had a chance to play Runelords before.)

Leo you should come play with us. :)
I have an investigator in a Hell's Rebel's game. I'm excited to see what that class can do. Speaking of that game. I'm pretty sure we lost our GM. We have four players who are still down to play, but the GM burned out on us. Anyone know a good GM who has the bandwidth to take another really active campaign? That group is prolific at posting when you get us going. I'd have to double check with the group, but it never hurts to ask.
Daichi Konjou |
I've GMed Runelords twice IRL and played three times, though none of them got further than book 1. Not really interested in giving it another shot right now.
