lmao...I LOVE Galaxy Quest!!!
"Your choice... a bad one, I think, but so be it."
Seijiro steps forward again inside the range of that boarding pike and attempts to skewer the Rahadoumi. if there are any birds to flank with, he'll tumble if necessary to get into flank position - auto success with his bonus

Horatio Flynn |

GM - I am confused. You rolled an attack for the enemy, but only the pirate. However - what happened to both the guy at the bottom of the pit and the manticore? Neither of them acted.
I'll happily take my move - if I am able, but I was wondering if there were any other actions we needed to wait for first.

Horatio Flynn |

I need a better climb check...
What's the DC, 10, right? For rigging?and do I got any bonuses?
1d20-2
Dhaavan, for what it's worth the Fighting Top had a ladder attached to the main mast after people were having difficulty reaching it in the past. The DC for climbing a ladder isn't even listed - but the DC for climbing a "Knotted Rope" braced against a wall (like a rope ladder attached to the main mast) - is a DC of 5. With the -5 penalty for Accelerated Climbing that bumps the DC to a 10, I believe.

There were other actions that are going to be taken but I wanted to finish Dhaavan's first before we moved on.

His last post he was at 18 or 19 hp so I thought that was where he was. If hes not down thats awesome!

Seijiro |

I don't know - maybe there were two sets of attacks from the manticore since the aid spell.. I could have misspoke... In fact, I just went back and re-read the forum and you are right, the manticore attacked twice since the aid spell - I was wrong. Oh well, can't win them all... at least he's got enough hero points to spend.

Dhaavan |

Sorry I been off... So that attack of Jiro's that was the sneak attack, that's the round after the Manticore and guy attacked, by the round count.
Jiro hit for 5 damage the round that dhaavan climbed down and summoned.
Guy said never surrender and the manticore attacked flynn
Now it's Dhaavan's turn, and he gives Jiro a Flanking eagle.
Jiro gets his SA damage to do something like 11 as opposed to 1, and dhaavan and his birds have their actions
I've got two birds to target the Manticore... Did the manticore move when it shot Flynn, cause if so I have 2 birds to take AoO's and if not, Do I get AoO's for it using ranged attacks?
I have to roll the birds AoO's, and attacks, on the manticore and Rahadoumi, and do Dhaavan's action when I get home, and know what AoO's and see where the manticore is now.

Rain Taneththir |

Amen set cast a healing spell on Flynn during her last turn that brought Flynn's HP to 27/44. After this attack he's lost 35 HP, which makes his HP currently at -8. Is that low enough to kill Flynn?

![]() |

What height is the manticore at? If Variel jumps up 5-10 feet, is ten feet high himself and has a ten foot rech, can he hit it?

It seems that Horatio is at 0 Hit Points, unless Adular can reach me; if so, that's below. If not, Amen-set's healing Horatio should mean that he is conscious, prone, but "staggered". He can therefore attempt one Standard Action, or one Move Action.
Therefore he will use his standard action to cast "Cure Light Wounds" on himself.

"Sandara! Another strike like that and I'll be dead. Get your ass down here and help, by all the gods, living, dead and yet to be born!" he says with a fierce growl to the ship's formal "acting cleric".
Horatio turns to Amen-set.
"Before I met you my goddess was Milani only - but now you know I have another god I pray to as well. And you know the prayer I pray to Him each day."
His eyes flick toward the manticore and he spits defiantly from his position on the deck, blood flecking his lips.
"What is the prayer I say to Him each day, girl? Tell me," he says with a raw voice.
She turns a viscous look toward the manticore and speaks softly, offering the prayer to Horatio's new god.
He hears her prayer and laughs a little, blood flecking his lips.
"That's my girl," he says with a dark whisper.
If Adular is able to reach me with his Channel Energy, that means my new HP is at 21/42. If not, we'll see what happens. Also, not sure what's happening with Sandara, but I'm hoping she can help, too. But I guess we'll see what happens next.
Assuming Adular was able to heal me -
"My thanks, Half-elf! I owe your goddess a debt today; I'll pay it in blood," he calls out hoarsely, his gaze turning to Adular with a thankful lifting of his arm.

Variel continues to move in the hopes that he positions himself in such a location that the beast will have to pass him by. To that end and to provide some cover to Flynn and Dhaavan, Variel crosses the ships again (move adjacent to Amen-set and Dhaavan on the map). Once over there Variel chants his incantation again making his cutlass crackle with energy. Should the manticore come within reach Variel was ready for him.

Not sure where the ballista is formally, but I thought it would be roughly at N:30 - which puts it almost in the middle of the starboard flank of the ship. That should put Horatio at O:30, roughly next to Amen-set.
Still not sure about Adular's Channelling for me but I think it's in range. On the plus side the Manticore fired 20 of its singers - so that's somewhat good news, as I don't think it has unlimited shots. In which case - assuming it's not bested, it will have to come into range of your melee weapons.
Does anyone know what a "DNS Hookup" is? I keep having connection problems and I don't know what to do. Thanks you in advance, anyone.

Horatio Flynn |

"Better we pay it back with victory," Adular says, "And that bloody flying spear tailed beast has GOT to die."
"Aye! And what is victory if not the blood of our enemy? Would any other offering please your goddess more?" he calls from his place by the deck.

Edit to the status up above. I just copied and pasted without adjusting my hp. Variel should be at 23/36. Sorry for any confusion Immortal. The rest is correct.

Rain Taneththir |

Rain shouts down (free action) to the enemy pilot trying to climb out of Dhaavan's pit, "Surrender now and we will be merciful."
Perception to see opposing pilot: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
On command, the +1 boarding pike is fully extended (swift action), giving Rain a 20ft reach for the round. This is assuming the opposing pilot is currently within reach.
Rain attacks the pilot from the lip of the pit with the fully extended boarding pike,
Power Attack with two-handed weapon with lead blades spell: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 1 = 22 (+1 for Bless)
Damage, if hit: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (2, 6) + 10 = 18
The opposing pilot already suffered 3 damage last round from Rain's Acid Splash attack.

DM Immortal |

Sorry for the lack of posting. I am traveling for work and internet access has been spotty.
Dhaavan, the Manticore is above you. You aren't able to push it down.
Horatio, Adular is within range so you are able to get healed. The manticore is too high and too close for a ballista shot though where he is.
Rain, even with the 20' the pilot is still out of reach.
The pilot gives you a rude gesture and says Never, Pirate scum!

"I admire your faith, Flynn, but the blood you've spilt on the deck already, willing or no, would already count. We'll see what we find in the holding that we can dump oer the side."
The pilot gives you a rude gesture and says Never, Pirate scum!
"By the Pirate Queen, I like the cut of this man's jib," Adular admits, "Too bad he's a heathen."
Nevertheless, his focus is on the manticore. He fires his crossbow, hoping to strike the damn thing before it can nearly kill another man.

If the Manticore does drop - do we see who's shot killed it?

Seijiro |

As his opponent falls to the deck, Seijiro smirks slightly. "I told you it was a bad choice." He calls out to the rest of the Rahadoumi defenders, those still fighting the crew, "Surrender and your lives will be spared... your bird is about dead and so are your officers... give up now and live!"
He flicks the blood off his rapier and sheathes it, looks around at the carnage. Seeing Rain still standing threateningly by the pit, he moves over that direction and looks down, looks at Rain and shrugs. In Minkaian he says to her,

![]() |

Knowing that he can't do anything to the manticore as long as it stays up, Variel heads over to the pit that Dhaavan created. Calling out to Dhaavan, Cancel the pit Dhaavan I am ready. Variel prepares to strike the captain down once within range.
Move action to cross ship again and end up north of Adular, was next to Amen-set last time.

Horatio Flynn |

Cool. GM - it looks like the question is; did the Manticore die?
If it is still alive, that will probably affect what happens next quite a bit.
Two follow-up questions: if it died - who's shot killed it? If it was Adular, Horatio wouldn't have used a Grit Point. If Horatio killed it, Amen-set wouldn't have shot it, but done something else.
Also - did Sandara do anything at this point to help the wounded? If she had acted before Variel moved, she could have reached us both with "Channel Energy" - but I don't know where she is, or if she can help, but it was something I was curious about...

Rain Taneththir |

Variel, don't forget you have +1 for Bless. Rain and Jiro are at the pit looking down at the opposing pilot before you jump back onto the Rahadoumi ship. I've yet to amend my action since the enemy pilot was more than 20 ft down.

Okay, this is Rain amending her previous action. Hopefully this will be okay as the spell has a 25 ft range and the pilot had been climbing earlier. Imm, let me know, please.
Keeping the earlier perception roll of 22.
Rain changes her target for the Freebooter's Bane (move action), now focusing it on the enemy pilot. (To anyone within 30 ft who can hear or see Rain: +1 to attack and +1 damage against the target).

Guys, the manticore killed two birds, and there were only 2 on it. One was flanking wit Sejiro.
Imm, I'm going to assume my bird 3 attacked the Rahadoumi with Jiro. So it can act this turn.
Create Pit does not have a (D) indicating that it is dismissable under duration, but i dont' know what spells do, so i dont' know if i can dismiss my Pit. Otherwise it has a duration of 7 rounds total. So that's 3 rounds left after this one...
I'll post action tomorrow, but since I'm invisible, I'd want to be closer to the captain, on our side of the boat.

Cool! Thanks Dhaavan.
In that case Horatio hits the Manticore with a ranged touch attack against AC of 21. If the Manticore has a touch AC or 21 or below, he does 12 points of damage.
Amen-set hits the Manticore against normal AC of 22. If a normal AC of 22 is able to hit, she does an additional 6 damage. All of this is on top of Adular's 5 damage against an AC of 18.
If all three hit we did a total of 23 damage. I'm not sure if that's enough to kill it (if we hit) - but I'm hoping it is.
But if Adular's 5 damage hits and kills it, Horatio won't use his grit point. That all depends on the GM, though he did say there may be some delay because he is traveling.
I guess we'll find out soon :)

DM Immortal |

Horatio's shot pierces the Manticores heart and it plummets onto the deck of the ship. It's dying shriek sends a jolt of fear through the heart of the opposing pilot, who is also the captain, who immediately cries out. Her eyes burning with hate she looks up and says I will not be captured by pirate scum such as you. I would rather die. She then pulls a dagger from her belt and plunges it into her heart.
The rest of the fighting seems to subside quickly with the death of the manticore.

Seijiro |

Seijiro winces and turns to Rain. "Well, that was unexpected... and a little overdramatic. Solves our problem though. Sad. She didn't have to die." He puts his weapon away, and turns with a little smile to watch the crew of the enemy vessel stand down. He pulls out his harmonica and plays a little victory tune while waiting for the pit to disappear.
As soon as the enemy captain is on the same level with them all, he rapidly searches her for keys and valuables, taking anything that might be useful... He grins and if Variel has joined them, he tosses the keys to the captain. "Let's go find out what treasures she bears, eh?"

Horatio looks at Dhaavan and nods once, than turns to Adular and tosses him a brief salute for his aid.
He glances over at Variel and nods at him for his efforts to try to help them against the manticore, despite the fact that the elf was severely wounded.
Then he turns to Amen-set.
”Go look to the men – if they are wounded, see to it, eh?” he says to her calmly.
Her eyes are still fiery, but her face is also a bit gray at what she has seen. Nevertheless, the young girl turns to deal with any wounded and moves first to the aft deck to make sure there was no one hurt on that side of the ship.
Her feet are somewhat unsteady, but she lifts her head bravely.
Horatio watches her move for a moment and stands to ease the tension in his body.
”Oye,” he says, calling her back a moment.
She turns and moves back to him, looking into his eyes.
”Thank you for your help – I won’t forget it,” he said softly, placing his hand gently on her shoulder as if he is comforting a child who has seen too much darkness.
She looks as if she would say something to him, but stifles her words and nods once.
He watches her turn to go about her business with a paternal smile until she has moved away from his line of sight.
When she is no longer watching him his expression turns from tender and paternal and he turns to look at the creature dead on the deck and his eyes go suddenly cold.
He moves to the corpse of the manticore and crouches down by it. He then draws his mother’s dagger from his side and cuts the creature’s throat, letting it bleed out, if it heart is still beating at all. Then, he stabs into the torso - slicing deep and tears out the heart with his hand. He cleans the dagger by drawing the blade in a quick a crisscross motion over his thigh to wipe of the blood.
He lifts the heart to his mouth and takes a bite out of it, savors it, then he throws the heart casually aside.
He wipes the gore and carmine from his mouth with the back of his hand.
Standing up from his crouched position by the body of the manticore, he then picks up a boarding axe. He walks over to the body of the first fallen Rhahadoum sailor that he sees on the deck of their ship and presses his foot against the body to see if the man is alive or merely wounded.
Yet whether the man is alive or dead doesn’t seem to matter, though.
Horatio merely stares at the body with flat eyes and his face remains completely neutral. Then he calmly lifts the boarding axe and splits the sailor's skull open deftly.
Then he smiles.
Then he moves to the next Rhahadoum sailor, the axe loose in his hand.

”Even so, I am charged to ask if you are wounded, and if you need aid?” she asks, her eyes examining Dhaavan somewhat intently for any damage.

Dhaavan |

Glamour falling as the Manticore perishes, Dhaavan takes note of Flynn's post combat ritual, and heads in that direction. At Amen-set's approach and words, Dhaavan says "Nah, I'm fine Da'lin'. Briefly glancing at Flynn he says, "I ain't one ta get in the way o' another man's fun, but don't go overboard eh?" Not articularly disconcerted by the brutality himself, the sorcerer does consider the effect it is likely to have on the crews, both enemy and friendly.

Lifting a foot up on the railing he leans over and shouts, "Alright you, Get yerselves lined up, quick-smart, yeah?" The order carries the weight of the victor in whose hands rest the defeated's lives, yet his face is a carefully crafted expression of mercy and not of spite. He's the good cop, the one who's favor promises life, while the gunner strolls casually splitting skulls.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (20) + 16 = 36 to get the opposing crew in line and cooperative, trusting him.
As they scurry, Dhaavan glances for a familiar face, one of those who bears the Fury's Brand, and asks "Oye what kind o casualties we got? This fight went a bit longer and there was a lot of firing back and forth. We loose anybody?" with genuine concern in his eyes.
Basically i want to get a roll call of the enemy before i try to recruit, and get a count of casualties on our side, cause i don't like loosing my friends...

"Aye, a shame it is...and a contrary part of me wishes I could raise her from the dead and go 'boo'" Adular grins a touch wickedly. And moves to healing not just members of the Dread Lady's crew, but any wounded of the ship they've just taken, stabilizing the latter.
"Captain ? I take it you want these folks alive or should I throw them over the side?" He asks Variel
As soon as the enemy captain is on the same level with them all, he rapidly searches her for keys and valuables, taking anything that might be useful... He grins and if Variel has joined them, he tosses the keys to the captain. "Let's go find out what treasures she bears, eh?"
"That's thinking it through," Adular cheers. He watches Hortio eat the heart, and raises a brow, "He's an odd duck."

Turning to Jiro he will nod his agreement with his assessment and indicate for him to start the search and moving of goods while he addresses the crew.
Before addressing the crew he sees Flynn and his actions, walking over to him, Variel puts a hand on the should, That is enough Flynn. The carnage is over and time to control yourself. You keep doing this and we will end up fighting everyone and no one will surrender to us.
When the opposing captain calls out and plunges the dagger into her heart, Variel shakes his head and sighs. Dropping the glamour, Variel climbs up to the helm of the other ship. Turning to face everyone Variel shouts to be overheard. Although a noble sentiment if warranted, this loss of life by taking it herself was foolish and a waste. We offered terms of surrender and they were rejected. The officers were given a chance and they too continued to fight. Now your captain and pilot when faced with a situation that she could not win took her own life instead of finding other options. It is these options that I want you to understand. You all have fought valiantly and with honor. I hold no grudge nor animosity towards you. In fact, quite the opposite. I respect you and wish to offer you a chance to join with us. Yes we will take our wealth from others and ply the seas with our trade. We will give people a chance for surrender and to prevent death. All that wish to join us talk to Dhaavan, first mate of The Dread Lady.
Diplomacy aid for Dhaavan 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Dhaavan |

Edited my previous post some
Dhaavan bows to Variel with a smile, and looks over the surrendered crew as the clerics tend to the wounded, and Officers go about their business.
He does pay a glance to Sejiro excited to see what he finds.
In his own private language while all this is going on he asks Jack how he's doing, letting him turn to a Tattoo to rest, waiting to heal the bird later.

Responding to Adular, If you would be so kind as to be in the middle and do a heal on everyone, us and them alike to ease the suffering of the fighting I would appreciate it and the others would too. It will go a long ways to proving our willingness to raid and plunder but not kill unless we have to. It may be by your actions that we get some of them to join us as well. Those that have passed on we will allow those to mourn in their own way. Respect the dead and the living will respect you as well..

Seijiro |

editing Seijiro's actions
Seeing that Variel has other actions in mind than searching the enemy vessel, SEijiro takes any keys he might have found and heads below, checking for traps before unlocking the door to the captain's quarters.
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
ah well, that could have gone better, I hope nothing's trapped
He starts searching for valuables, or chests that might contain such, charts, logbooks, anything that might be valuable, with the intent on searching the holds for cargo later.

Seijiro |

going to see Oz, finally, tonight, so will be out for a few hours and I assume a LOT will happen in those few hours so here's Seijiro's next actions too:
Seijiro, having removed valuables from the captain's person, then goes to her quarters and casts Detect Magic and scans the captain's quarters. So not only is he searching for mundane valuable items but magical as well. Once these items are secured and collected, and assuming at least one or two other officers will join him in the search at some point, he will head down to the hold and begin searching the cargo to see what kind of plunder there is to be had there.
