Quietly responding to Jiro, "Aye, she did not have to die. I gave her a chance to surrender peacefully. That being said, she died on her own terms. That is at least something." Rain sends a prayer to the gods on behalf of the fallen Captain/Pilot.
When Flynn crosses the ships and begins some gruesome ritual, Rain is more than a little horrified and struck by the change in the doctor. Once he would not have contemplated such thoughts, let alone actions. She was grateful when Variel spoke up, halting his desecration of the dead sailors.
Rain follows Jiro to go search the Rahadoumi vessel for any treasures she may hold.

Glamour falling as the Manticore perishes, Dhaavan takes note of Flynn's post combat ritual, and heads in that direction. At Amen-set's approach and words, Dhaavan says "Nah, I'm fine Da'lin'. Briefly glancing at Flynn he says, "I ain't one ta get in the way o' another man's fun, but don't go overboard eh?" Not articularly disconcerted by the brutality himself, the sorcerer does consider the effect it is likely to have on the crews, both enemy and friendly.

”Ah! That is a great relief, imey-er. I am pleased that you are well,” she says, a brief smile on her face as she brushes an errant bit of filth of his shoulder with her fingers which linger a bit too long.
”In any case, I am glad you are well. Are there any others that need aid,” she asks, curious to see what his orders are.

Horatio pushes the next body of one the fallen a bit with his boot, his eyes on Dhaavan, watching him casually, the axe still loose in his hand.
”But for your sorcery, I may have perished – but for the leechcraft of yon Adular there, I certainly would have fallen. Indeed, even the elf played a part in trying to fight that beast,” he adds, indicating Variel.
He cocks his head somewhat, studying Dhaavan, curious to know what about his actions bothered the sorcerer, but not entirely certian.
”What? Do you think that me finishing off our enemy would dissuade others from joining with us?” he asks with a very soft voice, his eyes searching Dhaavan’s face.
”You may be right – but I shall leave such talks with the men to you. I no longer have the stomach for them.”
His eyes turn to the crew with a suddenly very hard look; raking the company intently with a cold and appraising stare.
”We spoke once – you and I – of being like a brotherhood; a family.”
”A family protects each other – they watch out for each other and do what they can to help each other against an enemy.”
He continues to examine the crew with lidded eyes.
”Among them all, only the girl from the east and your sorcery struck the beast. Not one of our party let fly arrows to do it damage; and by their lack of wit or effort, I may have perished – as well as Nighstorm.”
His eyes are still on the crew, but he continues to speak to Dhaavan.
”You are the First Officer of this ship – so I bring this to you first, and I trust you to take care of the matter. If that does not work, I shall speak then to Nighstorm,” he adds, his voice very calm.
He sighs a bit.
His eyes, still on the crew, suddenly narrow as if he noticed something he had missed before and he scowls.
”I ordered bows to be issued to the gun crew at least – I ordered them to fire at thing. They did not, so of the guncrew who did not fire, I shall deal with them myself, for they are my charge.”
”But – and this is what I bring to your notice – I had hoped that when a creature that flies is above us, any of our crew – our “family” – would do what they could to bring that enemy down.”
”But for you and the girl, none did.”
He turns back to Dhaavan directly.
”Even so, I say to you now – woe to any who could have helped us with that creature and did not use a weapon to attack it; for it nearly cost me my life as well as the life of our captain. I shall not forget that. I hope that something is done about it."
He watches the crew for a while, and continues to speak - almost to himself.
"Of course, if I was left to deal with it... well, of course, there are many ways to repay a debt to a man for his actions, be those actions good or ill. And as I told you below a few days ago - I always repay my debts..."
He grips the axe more tightly and turns back to watch Dhaavan closely.
He seems to want to say something - to add something else, but instead, he takes a deep breath, holds it, then slowly lets it out.
His eyes mellow a bit, and his lips smile somewhat.
”You are my friend as well as the second-in-command on this ship,” he says, his voice dropping to a somewhat more familiar tone – ”I will not tell you what to do, but I will offer you the suggestion of encouraging a discussion of better tactics with the company as a whole.”
He turns back to watch the entire group for a while, a casual look of appraisal on his face.
”It would be wise, my friend… and as always, I trust in your wisdom in such matters,” he adds with a reassuring voice, clapping Dhaavan on his shoulder in a friendly way.
Then he turns his gaze back to the fallen sailor by his feet, lifts the axe and brains that man as well.

Turning to Jiro he will nod his agreement with his assessment and indicate for him to start the search and moving of goods while he addresses the crew.
Before addressing the crew he sees Flynn and his actions, walking over to him, Variel puts a hand on the should, That is enough Flynn. The carnage is over and time to control yourself. You keep doing this and we will end up fighting everyone and no one will surrender to us.
When the opposing captain calls out and plunges the dagger into her heart, Variel shakes his head and sighs. Dropping the glamour, Variel climbs up to the helm of the other ship. Turning to face everyone Variel shouts to be overheard. Although a noble sentiment if warranted, this loss of life by taking it herself was foolish and a waste. We offered terms of surrender and they were rejected. The officers were given a chance and they too continued to fight. Now your captain and pilot when faced with a situation that she could not win took her own life instead of finding other options. It is these options that I want you to understand. You all have fought valiantly and with honor. I hold no grudge nor animosity towards you. In fact, quite the opposite. I respect you and wish to offer you a chance to join with us. Yes we will take our wealth from others and ply the seas with our trade. We will give people a chance for surrender and to prevent death. All that wish to join us talk to Dhaavan, first mate of The Dread Lady.

Little confused on the timeline issue here - I thought you were still on the other ship when I did what I did; at least - the map seems to suggest it, and I honestly didn't know you were watching what I was doing (in game).
I did make mention of Rhahadoum sailors, but that was only because I assumed some of them managed to get onto our ship as well via "mass combat" stuff - when it happened, but we couldn't see it on the main map.
I will say that if you saw what I did, and if you had come over to me to talk before my actions and conversation with Dhaavan, I wouold have likely not have done them, but mellowed much sooner.
Also, by error, I didn't read the other posts yet, and was working on a response to Dhaavan before I saw this, so my most recent post before this doesn't make a lot of sense via timeline. Sorry about that.
If you were on the ship with us, I likely would have at least offered you a taste of the heart, if you wanted it. If you had refused, I would have laughed good-naturedly and clapped you on your back.
Your location to me when I spoke to Dhaavan would have also likely affected my speech to him, too. But the map confused me, so I thought you were still on the opposite ship. Sorry about any confusion.
On the plus side, for all his unusual behaviour as of late - Horatio sincerely appreciates the fact that you have been brave and did what you could to help him; his expression and actions make that very clear, even if my postings haven't been ;)

Ret-can as Dhaavan was making a passing suggestion to flynn as he got about dealing wiht the enemy crew
Flynn, our crew was fighting their crew, so folks turning bows to the air would be stabbed by the enemy engaging then head-on, and letting others get overwhelmed. SO as far as crew goes, it's safe to assume that they were all pretty busy trying to fight and stay alive, all the while covering for us till we took out the captain and got the enemy to stand down.

He hears Variel’s comment about the dead, and his mind tacks back to the corpses chained beneath the waves near the Grindylow’s, as well as the rotted corpses that had attacked them on the island before.
Who cares what we do with their skins? Their spirits have left to see… well; you know who they have left to see…
He regards the crew somewhat casually, saying nothing, the blood still on his face and gear.
Still, the elf did well today, and he is the captain. Don’t argue with him in front of the new folk, for it is foolish to show division to an unknown, not to mention the fact that there is no cause to be rude.
He grunts a bit, then waves his hand quickly at the men in front of them, inspecting them for any magical aura’s.

Well, it’s a tough spot. Clearly Horatio is upset about almost getting killed; clearly he’s not been himself – obviously there is a lot going on in his mind that is private at this time. On the other hand – what is clear is that – given the conversation he had with you below a few days ago – he’s sincere about trusting to your judgment in dealing with handling tactics in the future. But he’s absolutely sincere about “repaying the debt” of any who refused to help that he discovers later.
Of course, more on that later, I suspect… :)

Rain - sorry about things - the posting has confused me somewhat. As far as I knew the Manticore fell on our ship - Variel was still on the enemy ship and ready to jump across to aid - then the creature fell.
I thought it fell on our ship. I talked to Amen-set and told her to help with the others on our ship (that was my plan, at any rate, because I thought that's where the body was). Then I ate the heart. Then I went over to talk to Dhaavan, because I thought he was on our ship, too.
As for the bodies of the dead Rahadoum folk, I thought there were some of the Rahadoum folk on our ship, too, via "mass combat". But it's all guesswork on my part at this point.
It's kind of weird because of the map and timeline issues - I'm sorry for any confusion, though. I wouldn't have done any of those actions on the enemy ship, though, if that's where the manticore had fallen, though.
Man, sorry for all this. Anyhow - I'm on the enemy ship now with you guys. Hopefully everything is all good, now, and I'm sorry again for any confusion.

Yeah, that was creative liberty on my part on where the enemy bodies were, and again - sorry for any confusion.
While the GM didn't say any of them specifically had come across - I figured it was a reasonable conclusion that some of them had, though I didn't know for certain, but it was mainly flavor - for the most part.
But I think it's fair to say - damn these timeline/location issues! :)

"We spilled blood together, not for wealth but for friendship's sake."
His eyes grow distant, as he considers things.
"Between true friends there can be no talk of giving and taking; because they bleed as one together."
"I am content with that, then - if you are," he says, offering the half-elf his hand.

"An honor, but I hope that doesn't prevent one of us buying a round for the other next time we're in port," He shakes the hand with a firm grip.
Horatio laughs loud, though his eyes take a strange look at the mention of drinking.
”Aye! A drink is a good thing indeed. When this hash is settled I’ll fix you a real meal – something hot and good. My lass back on board ship can cook damn fine; that’s a promise. If you’re open to it, she’ll make something grand – she’s handy at making things; from weapons and armor to fresh crispy bacon and hot, rich coffee; brewed just right and sweetened with honey or molasses - anything you like, she'll set you up propper,” he adds with a friendly voice.
He turns a look back at the lot in front of them, considering them a bit.
”These scum are easterners by their gear, likely from the desert, too,” he adds casually, noticing the recently captured men in the dim light of the torches.
”We’ve danced with these types before; the Rahadoum folk, that is.”
He turns a look at Adular.
”It is said that the folk of their lands are godless– that they have secret cults which meet in dark places and speak of unknown horrors. But it also said that their whole nation is filled with heathen kings who hunt down the faithful and kill them. It seems their master's think that their faith is the only one worth having, and that our gods are false and don't amount do anything useful in battle.”
He turns back to give the new sailors a sardonic smile.
”Looks like they bet the wrong hand this time,” he adds with short bark of laughter.

You don't see any magical items so far.
When you check the hold you see the ship is carrying about 4 tons of salt, copper and cloth. 4 points of plunder
A significant number of crew were killed in the battle. 1d10 ⇒ 9 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
You lost 9 men and they lost 4 in the fighting. Through Dhaavan's offer, you manage to recoup 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 men from among the other crew. The others steadfastly refuse to join and want nothing to do with the "butcher" on your ship.

Listening to the report at the plunder, Horatio shrugs, not disappointed, but not really excited.
He has little interest in these goods specifically, but at least they were worth something.
He is concerned about the men who had passed.
”Who among our lads had died?” he asks, wondering if he would discover the specifics of the men.
As he glances around at the ship, he hears the declaration of the men who would refuse to join with his company.
He looks to Dhaavan and Variel.
”It seems these men have refused our hospitality. Do you want to kill them outright, or do you have something more fitting in mind?” he asks in a somewhat bored voice, curious to see what the orders are.
While he waits for an answer he knocks the blade of his axe against his boot to clean off some errant brain matter and fractured skull still nestled in the groove.
GM: technically speaking Piper is not actually a “butcher” but a “crafter” with a rank in cooking. But she wasn’t using her culinary skills in the fight, so I don’t know why they’d reference a “butcher”… Oh wait, you weren’t talking about her you sly dog ;)

Amen-set moves across to the other ship and watches Dhaavan work with the new men.
She hears Horatio’s comment to the officers, and frowns slightly, seeing his casual brutality.
They have died well, those who fought. And as for the men who have ceased to fight? Well – do not the wise say – “Better a shameful defeat and life then a glorious victory with death; for a dead man cannot kill his enemy later”. Aye, it is so!
She considers this, and watches the men who have accepted the terms.
If that is true, then that means that the men who would join us now are either very weak, very mercenary, or they are eager to attempt to enact vengeance on us even now and merely wait for our guard to drop and strike at a later time...
She watches the men curiously, her hand gripping her spear loosely, leaning on it like a staff even as her falcon alights on her shoulder.
If these men have joined us, we must be sure their hearts are in it truly. Perhaps I may aid the young sorcerer with the dark eyes…
She slings her shield over her back and moves to Dhaavan’s side, recognizing the Rahadoum gear on the other sailors, and knows at least that the people of Rahadoum often speak the both the Common Tongue and the Osiriani tongue as well.
Diplomacy Check to Aid Dhaavan in off-setting Horatio’s dark mood with these potential new recruits.
”Men of the east – you have fought well; but now your fight is over. My lords offer you mercy for your strength in battle. They ask only that you accept their offer with honor; for though we have known each other as antagonists, it may be that from this day forward we may know each other as brethren in arms.”

With a disgusted sigh, Variel casts prestidigitation and cleans Flynn's axe before he can offend anymore people. Not caring who may overhear him Variel answers Flynn gruffly. Flynn shut up and go check on the condition of the siege engines. These are people just like you and me so treat them with respect. If not then maybe I will let you captain their ship as we drag it to port to sell off. Then we will see what type of people they are. In the meantime start moving their ballistae over onto the forecastle.
Variel turns away from Flynn and looks for Adular. Seeing him among the dead, Variel approaches solemnly. You have not been with us long and I do not know you well enough yet, but I ask you to treat the dead with respect as you have been doing. Not only ours but theirs as well. If they have a ritual they perform I ask you to honor that request to the best of your abilities. Thank you Adular. Oh by the way Adular is there any chance you could help fix some of the damage to the ship as well. Maybe not tonight of course but on the morrow? If so then we could repair the sails that were burned in addition to the ship itself and the steering wheel.
Next Variel searches out Dhaavan and inquires to his success with recruiting. Seeing that they lost more than he gained and why Variel whispers to him, Yu have more luck with Flynn than I. I told him to keep a lid on his actions and shut up about executing people. I need you to smooth it out and make sure he behaves. I am going to need everyone if we are to tow this ship back to dock and sell it. For that task I was hoping you and your silvered tongue could get those that didn't join us to at least not sabotage us on the way. W might have to lock them in their sleeping quarters at night though. I hope you can get this to work.
Next Variel searches out Rain. Rain I need to know what the odds are of towing this back to the nearest port to sell off. We need supplies and this ship will not only provide the money for those supplies but to also get people to join our crew. We lost more than we gained in crew and need to fix that soon.
Last but certainly not least as Jiro may be the busiest right now, Variel inquires as to the take and plunder that they gained. When hearings the result, Variel claps him on the back and gives a wide smile. Well done indeed. Now only if we did not lose so many ourselves this would be a great haul. As it is, this is better than I expected. Keep up the good work Jiro. Hopefully we can have it all transferred and stowed shortly. Then it is time for everyone to rest and get ready for the morrow. We have a long couple of days ahead of us if we want to reap all of the rewards of selling the ship as well. If you need to commission some others to help gather as many as you can to speed the process along.

Adular |

Actually, I was having him say the blessing over the Dread Lady's fallen crew. Sorry for not being clearer.
Adular also prays for the heathen godless, but it is clear he isn't as sure of their fate.
"I'll do what I can, o course, Captain. Besmara will take in what souls are hers to their rest, as for the godless, well, maybe she can snitch a few from the lady o death and fate while she's at it. And I do have a small blessing for mending, little things mostly, but it might speed things up." he inclines his head, "Hard fight, Cap'n. Well won."

DM Immortal |

Seijiro, in addition during your search you find 4 more of those alchemical ballista bolts hidden in a smuggling compartment. Among them is 1000 gold coins stamped with the seal of Sargava.

Dhaavan |

Dhaavan spends a majority of his time checking on our crew and speaking to the 5 new crewmates. he does nod t the Captain regarding FLynn, "We got a few things to chat on, Cap'n."
There are still 3 Rahadoumi on our crew from before. we loose any more of them, and any of em distinguish themselves?
Dhaavan introduces the new 5 to them, and talks to them about the in's and outs of crewing our vessel. Tells them about our code and pay and such details. He watches them closely, as he affably takes introductions and seeks to have them experience welcome to the crew of the Lady. He wants them to feel like this was a wise choice, all things considered.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 to gauge their potential loyalty and intent.

Seijiro |

Seijiro gathers some of the crew and has them start transferring cargo from the pirated vessel to The Dread Lady and stowing the cargo below in the hold. He takes a moment once the transfer is well underway to walk among the dead and whisper a prayer for them all, though his prayer is to Hei Feng, and in Minkaian. He says goodbye to those he has learned to call friend in the past weeks.
When Variel addresses him, he returns the grin, and says "Hai, Captain, it was a good haul and it will all be aboard The Lady shortly."
He personally brings the alchemical ballista bolts and the gold coins to their own ship. He delivers the bolts to the gunnery crew and tells them "Surely we can make use of these, as they were used against us."
Once that is done, he makes sure nothing of real value is left aboard the Rahadoumi vessel before boarding The Dread Lady again. He goes below to make sure the cargo is stored properly and securely before coming back up and heading straight to the captain's quarters. He delivers the chest/bag/whatever of gold coins for division later, putting them in a secure, lockable chest in Variel's quarters. When he's done, he leaves, being sure to lock the cabin behind him.

Variel onds his head to Adular about hard fought and hard won. Aye and the price was paid, but was it worth the cost of the 9 of ours and the 4 of theirs. I don't know but the actions are past and nothing to do now but prepare for the morrow. Who knows what Besmara has in store for us.
To Dhaavan Later in private you will have to tell me but not here with everyone around. I will listen and hope that you can enlighten me before I say anything else to him.

Seijiro |

Seijiro finds Variel and gives him a wide grin. "Surprise in your quarters, Captain-sama. Let me know when you're ready to learn what I found."

![]() |

Once I know the ship is secure I will find you Jiro. Hopefully that will be soon so everyone can get sleep but the night watch. I have a feeling i may not get much sleep tonight as i may take part in the watch to ensure the crew is well rested. Owever, I look forward to see what you have discovered.

Horatio Flynn |

I wish I had heard what you said to Dhaavan, but unfortunately I didn't. Hopefully things are all good, eventually, but Horatio's not been himself for a while so I got to play out a bad hand.
Horatio's eyes widen in surprise at Variel's rudeness.
He tosses his the axe aside and draws his weapon. He makes a cut on his arm and draws blood from it and lets it drip unhindered.
His eyes darken, and he opens his mouth as if to say something. Instead, he takes a deep breath and shakes his head.
Tired of the elf's behavior and hypocrisy he simply turns away from him and walks off.

Horatio Flynn |

Seeing Variel move between him and Adular, Horatio simply walks away from the elf.
Pausing, he turns to Adular -
"I'll talk to you later, priest. It was good speaking to you; you have honor in you - and balls besides. I like that," he adds with a grin.

Amen-set Neitaker |

Dhaavan spends a majority of his time checking on our crew and speaking to the 5 new crewmates. he does nod t the Captain regarding FLynn, "We got a few things to chat on, Cap'n."

[dice=Sense Motive]1d20+7 to gauge their potential loyalty and intent.
Seeing Dhaavan's intent eyes on Variel, Amen-set quickly bows before them both, realizing that she is being dismissed.
Seeing the dark mood of the one called Horatio, she leaves him to his own thoughts and watches him seek out one of the men in the ship - the one who had "drawn first blood".
Something about that detail makes her wonder, but she does not approach him.
It is not her place to speak to the officers, so she remains silent, even as she noticed the boisterous little red-headed boy with the Minkai accent approach the elf and speak to him eagerly of the special surprises he found.
She wonders at that; and looks at him - curious at his gear which seems more eastern then western - despite his accent.
She recalls that he seemed fairly limber and agile, and presumes that explains the style of blade that he carries - which is better suited for someone with agility and grace, and indeed, someone with great dexterity and poise.
After reflecting on the blade for a time, her eyes travel over the rest of him and she notices that his clothes are well-made and that he seems rather neatly dressed. The only thing that startles her is the presence of the bow and the quiver of arrows he is wearing.
She had noticed them before.
She turns a quick glance to Horatio, but he is having a private conversation with the one who drew "first blood", and she does not wish to interfere.
With little to do, she moves out of the way of the officers and simply waits for orders and watches the sky and the stars above.

Seijiro |

Once all is safely stored away and things have settled down some on board The Lady, Seijiro goes to the officer's quarters and collects Tomo, who missed out on all the excitement, but all the danger too and feeds and comforts him. He moves amongst the crew and welcomes the newcomers, and spreads words of comfort, consolation, and congratulations for a job well done among our original crew.
Whenever Variel comes to him ready for his surprise, he will be ready to join him and any other free officers at the time.

Adular |

Variel nods his head to Adular about hard fought and hard won. Aye and the price was paid, but was it worth the cost of the 9 of ours and the 4 of theirs. I don't know but the actions are past and nothing to do now but prepare for the morrow. Who knows what Besmara has in store for us.
"Wisely said, Capn'. She's portrayed as smiling for a reason," Adular chuckles, "And that's the truth o it."
He raises a brow at Flynn's response to the captain, but says nothing about it. Sure as hell hope this gets settled soon. Could get ugly.
"I'll talk to you later, priest. It was good speaking to you; you have honor in you - and balls besides. I like that," he adds with a grin.
"One tries, Chief... I'd say the Dread Lady an crew are an honorable ship all around. Tis a pleasure to be a part of it."

Seijiro |

Once back on deck, while waiting for Variel, Seijiro seeks out Adular and smiles at him as he approaches. He bows then speaks, "I didn't really have time in the middle of the fight to thank you for the healing aura you sent to so many of us. It was truly a godsend... so my thanks to you and your goddess for the boon."

Horatio turns back to Adular, and laughs.
"Like I said - your words were well spoken."
His eyes travel over their folk, searching for someone.
"I got to take care of some personal matters. But I appreciate your words, my friend," he says with a friendly wave as he walks off.

Adular |

Once back on deck, while waiting for Variel, Seijiro seeks out Adular and smiles at him as he approaches. He bows then speaks, "I didn't really have time in the middle of the fight to thank you for the healing aura you sent to so many of us. It was truly a godsend... so my thanks to you and your goddess for the boon."
Adular grins, "Well, the goddess does the work, I just stand there and hope I don't get shot at while doing it. I were impressed by your own footwork there, what I could see of it. You move along the rigging like you were born on it. I'll pass on your praise to the Pirate Queen though. Let me know if you need some more healing anytime. Me real worries is me duties as bosun'. Been a cleric for years, but bossun in battle? Well, I hope the lads are thinking as kindly of me as you are."

Rain Taneththir |

As Flynn walks away from the priest, Rain has a passing word with the doctor. "Flynn, you did well holding first the catapult and then the ballista. Your companion, the girl, she did not flinch during the fight from what I could witness from the Rahadoumi vessel. She did you proud" and with a cordial nod Rain continues forward to the Besmaran priest.
"Aye, priest, your healing was most beneficial to my mates, and for that I am grateful, and to Besmara herself, for whom your healing power is derived. You have proved to be quite a wise addition to our ship. Now I must see to the exact damage done to the sails and mast during this fight and how we will go about towing the Rahadoumi schooner to port." She inclines her head in bow to Adular before undertaking assessment and providing solution to moving both ships across the sea.

Rain Taneththir |

Imm, I'm not sure what other checks, apart from the above, I have to make to determine if we can successfully tow the Rahadoumi ship. I will await to hear from you before elaborating/replying to Variel. Thanks.

Rain Taneththir |

Turing to Jiro, Rain smiles at her brother in arms, "Thank you for having my back when we were attacked on the Rahadoumi vessel. That flanking maneuver certainly paid off. You fought bravely, Jiro."

Seijiro |

Seijiro grins at Rain and gives her a slight bow. "Hai, we managed to work well together, as usual, Rain-san. It was my pleasure, and between you and I and Dhaavan's birds, we did manage to keep flank on them quite often. I will always be there for you... you can count on me."
Aaargh, that was starting to sound like bad song lyrics... had to stop. lol
He continues softly so as not to be overheard. "There is a surprise in the captain's quarters as well. Something I found on the enemy vessel!" He gives Rain a little wink.

Rain Taneththir |

Rain smiles more warmly upon Jiro's words of working well together. It was true, they certainly did work very well side by side, and she was grateful for having such a mate onboard the Lady.
"All of us did fine work at taking their ship." Although I wish Flynn had not assaulted those poor dead sailors in the manner he did after the fight was done. Truly bizarre. I wonder what is wrong with him.
When Jiro leans in a little and softly shares that he has a surprise waiting for Variel in his cabin, Rain inquires, "Will we be present at the unveiling of this surprise, my friend?"

Seijiro |

"I hope so, but if not, you will learn of it soon enough. Anyone who can be spared to join us when it's time for the officers to meet will learn of it first, with the word going out shortly after to the others," he says, again leaning in close and whispering. "I hate keeping secrets, but in this case, I think discretion is the best course."

Horatio Flynn |

As Flynn walks away from the priest, Rain has a passing word with the doctor. "Flynn, you did well holding first the catapult and then the ballista. Your companion, the girl, she did not flinch during the fight from what I could witness from the Rahadoumi vessel. She inclines her head in bow to Adular before undertaking assessment and providing solution to moving both ships across the sea.
"My thanks, lady," he says, the blood still fresh on his arm.
Hearing her comment on Amen-set, he pauses in his move to the one who drew first blood and turns back a moment...
"I appreciate your words on her behalf, but I think she would appreciate hearing them from you herself."
His eyes flick over the others, and pause on one member of the group intently; noticing something.
His eyes flick back to Dhaavan, who is speaking with Variel, and some of the murderous intensity in his eyes ebbs away, as if seeing the two of them talking relaxes him for some reason.
Looking a bit awkward he moves back to Rain and speaks a bit quietly.
"I am not used to dealing with young girls - or girls in general, as you know. But I have a sense that she would benefit from having a friend on this ship other than Dhaavan," he adds, his face seeming more relaxed, by the dark fire that was kindled a moment ago by what he saw is still liking the corners of his eyes with a deep intensity, though he seems to be doing much to conceal it.
"She is young, and I see much potential in her. I would not see her stray on to certain paths... I think that your company may do her good, or at least - better than some..." he adds reflecting on something.
"Now, begging your pardon, but I have some personal business to attend to. Meanwhile..." he says looking at something, his eyes flashing, then calming again... "meanwhile, I need to go. If I linger long here I fear there may be issues."
He nods to her politely, then turns and leaves.

Rain Taneththir |

A little retconned. This conversation happens/ends before Rain goes to speak to Adular and then Jiro.
Rains nods her head once, silently pondering Flynn's words. "Perhaps, I will make myself known to the girl and give her my praise on her actions this night. Anything more I cannot promise until she and I are known to each other." Rain is being sincere in her offer to speak with Amen-set. She had been an only child and had no close female friends on Tempest Cay, having spent most of her days and nights with her grandfather's crew on the sea. So the girl had taken a fancy to the young sorceror. She wondered how Dhaavan felt about Amen-set. She temporarily put aside those thoughts for more pressings issues, like the assessment and repair of the Lady and the hauling of the other ship.

Rain Taneththir |

"I hope so, but if not, you will learn of it soon enough. Anyone who can be spared to join us when it's time for the officers to meet will learn of it first, with the word going out shortly after to the others," he says, again leaning in close and whispering. "I hate keeping secrets, but in this case, I think discretion is the best course."
In equally discreet voice, "I understand in this case, Jiro. And I will not ask you to elaborate any further. I will be there for the Officers' meeting and I can wait until it is revealed." Rain briefly touches Jiro's arm to show him that she is fine with not knowing what the secret is at the present time.

Rain, you suspect that towing it will take you at least a month to get to the nearest port of sufficient size to sell it for full sale value of 5000gp. There are places closer but you would be selling it for much less than its value. Maybe 25% with a really good roll.

Of the 9, 6 were so new that you don't even remember their names. You thought that Johnson died but then realized he was just heavily wounded and was healed when Adular used his healing.
The other three are Hajen, Makeem, and unfortunately the call comes over that Owlbear has fallen. When you all go to see it looks like he took out a good dozen of the opposing crew, killing two of them, before he was brought down by a crossbow bolt.

We need supplies and this ship will not only provide the money for those supplies but to also get people to join our crew. We lost more than we gained in crew and need to fix that soon.
After inspecting both the Lady and the Sanbalot, Rain approaches Variel with her determination.
"If you are looking to receive the full value of 5000gp for this ship, then we must set course for the nearest large port with the means to pay us. The voyage would take us about a month, possibly a little longer, if we are towing her. Aye, there are ports closer to this location where we could attempt to undertake the transaction, but by my reckoning we would be selling her at a substantial loss -- likely only receiving 25% of her true value. What say you, Var? Keep and sell the Sanbalot, set her adrift or sink her?"
