Dhaavan supports taking this ship now, but will grumble about Bes sending them prey right as he's almost done and won't be able to finish his work on the Cap'n's item.
But bed time now
Arodus 25th

Hearing Dhaavan’s grumblings, Horatio laughs loudly, enjoying the First Officer’s jesting in front of the so recently inspired crew.
”Aye –the night does come, my friend. But let us not worry overmuch on it; for lo! The skies shall be bright enough with the fires of our fury; and not all the darkness in the Abyss shall keep us from spilling blood if we seek to press to steel to flesh,” he says with a hearty grin, clapping his bloodied hand on the young sorcerer in a friendly gesture.

Horatio will take a moment to glance at the heavens, wondering on the weather and prepared to gauge it.
GM – what is the current distance of the ship in front of us? Is it a few hundred feet, a half mile, several miles? What is the approximate range? At this point I am assuming it is fairly far out, and we have at least a few minutes or so, but I'm not sure.
Depending on what's what - I'll "Take 10" to Gauge the Weather: 10 + 5 = 15.
Survival DC 15 – Predict the weather up to 24 hours in advance. For every 5 points by which your Survival check result exceeds 15, you can predict the weather for one additional day in advance.
He is not overly concerned about the visibility, for on the 25th of Arodus, there is at least decent enough moonlight. For now, all he is interested in knowing what he must do next.
Formally the book suggests Arodus is equal to August and all the months are equal to our own (Arodus has the same days and temperature as August - in the Northern Hemisphere, I'm guessing; Rova has the same amount of days as September, and so on). Now technically the campaign started in 2012. But I thought it would be handy to know what the moonlight was via visibility purposes and flavor, so I put the link up. If it you are using a different year then 2012, or if you have another plan for the moon, that's cool. But I thought it might be fun to use it, if we're going to do things during the night.
At this point, I am assuming you are using it, though, as we were attacked by ninja's on the 20th of Arodus, and according to the chart, there was barely any moonlight at all on the 20th making the streets extra dark. This is certainly why we had so much trouble seeing them (as there was hardly any moonlight), and I'm guessing they would have naturally counted on the lack of moonlight and used that to their advantage - because ninja's are clever that way ;)
And you implied that you made up the date! Very subtle, I'll have to keep my eyes open for things like this more often, I see. Well played, by the way.

Horatio Flynn |

Variel, Horatio is still technically on the main deck with the bulk of the crew after "Action Stations" was called. Normally he would be moving to the forward catapult ready to use that, if needed - if we were pirating a ship (as mentioned on the Discussion Thread). However, it occurs to me that you may have another plan or suggestion. If so, please let me know and I will go with that, instead. Thank you.
Meanwhile, I am off to work but shall be back later this evening.

no plans Flynn just curious for the spreadsheet. Majority says pursue, let's go capture the vessel.

DM Immortal |

The ship is still several miles away so you may have even a few days to catch the ship assuming you are able to get the wind and the speed of the ship.

Horatio Flynn |

no plans Flynn just curious for the spreadsheet. Majority says pursue, let's go capture the vessel.
Hearing no formal orders, but guessing that Variel is even now in the midst of prepping the ship and trusts his fellow cadre to move into position without having to be told; Horatio nods to himself and suddenly follows the other men in the gun crew to their posts, hurrying up the foredeck to the catapult.
Very good! Just like Piper tells me about her food – “Too many cooks spoil the minced pies” – eh? It seems Variel’s getting the hang of this captain position – he knows he doesn’t need to micro-manage us and trusts us to do what we need to do, and be where we need to without having to hand out orders.
A sudden thought passes through Horatio’s mind, like another voice teasing him inside his head.
Ha! Learning from a Halfling is the only way to learn! And what’s this? Do my eyes mistake me, or are you starting to think with some respect for your bloody captain? Hell, we’ll make a team player out of you next, you book-talking, blather-monkey!
Horatio grins at the words of this passing voice, shaking his head at their wisdom.
Still, he did have to admit, though: if Variel kept acting the way he was acting – despite the issues the two them had, he’d have no choice but to respect him.
Great - now I'm running late :) Okay, now I'm really leaving!

Dhaavan |

"Ha, why am I even surprised? I'm almost done workin, an' now is when she sees fit to deliver us prey. Not tomorrow night when I'm finished, no earlier when there's no way I'd be done. Adular, our beloved mistress is teasing me even now with her blessings," Dhaavan says with a chuckle and a sigh. "At least she got a sense o' humor, huh?"
At Flynn's encouragement, Dhaavan smiles, "Very true. For all my grumbling, I can't wait to test out a few new tricks on these poor fools what don't know not to resist."
Just saw GM's post on taking a couple days
With Flynn getting the crew well-riled up, Dhaavan joins in, running up the stairs to the wheel, hanging off rigging, "Alright Mates! I know ya all gonna give Rain everythin ya got and get on that dingy's heels by then yeah? Lighten up the load for them poor folk, an act o' charity, once we catch em!" after getting a laugh and a cheer from the crew, Dhaavan heads back to his study.
Imm, Flynn's date-stamp shows the 25th. Dhaavan started crafting on the 22nd when we left, and if we see the ship 3 days later, the night of the 25th, then I'll be done Variel's headband with a 4 day crafting time. So should I roll that and give him his item? And can I. Take a 10? It's a DC 18, so it's easy if I take 10

Adular |

"You shouldn't be surprised, Dhaavan. Besmara is a saucy lady, who enjoys little more than tempting a man when he's ignoring her... but with such lush curves... on the fleeing ship o course, what red blooded pirate can say no?" Adular grins. "Maybe you can make it under the wire."
When Flynn and Dehaavan rouse the crew, he nods at the crew as well and addresses them, "Be proud lads, but not so proud you try to do it alone. A rudder without sails is going no where, sails without rudder is directionless... this every sailor knows, but sometimes we forget the strength each sailor has... his to use for his own task, aye, but should ye see a brother in need, help him with a bit of yours. We're going to pirate, and every task left undone, every minute lost, means less gold in our pockets, less glory to our names and to Besmara! Together, we are a sea monster with dozens of eyes and hands. Watch your brothers, if one stumbles and you cannot help him, call on me and I'll be there to shore you up best I can. Besmara willing, every drop of sweat from our brows will be rewarded by the trickle of silver an gold."
And he means it. While he will take time to pray... he'll keep an eye on the health of the sailors, throw his own back into shoring them up where they are weak, and advising them.

DM Immortal |

You will definitely be done before you catch the ship. You can take 10.

Dhaavan |

Variel
On the night after their fourth day out to sea, Dhaavan steps out of the Captain's quarters with a smile. "Well, Cap'n, by this time tomorrow yea'll know if Besmara's blessed yea with her intuition and understandin, but for now, I think yea'll feel the difference. I tried it on, jest ta be safe, an felt like m'mind was expanded while I wore it. Took some notes for m'self which s why it weren't ready, but by teh time we take the ship, ye should be able to improve a bit on yer arcane preperations," the sorcerer tells his Captain.
SInce this is the night of the 4th day, when Var preps his spells on the 6th day out the bonuses from the headband will be permenant and give bonus spells if it pushes it high enough, but at least there will be more arcane pool, and such, as well as the ranks in Profession Sailing. No language cause it's for Profession as opposed to Linguistics, but Yay, Bonuses!
Dhaavan will get to work on his Circlet of Persuasion as we continue, but that'll take 5 days to bang out, and it don't increase Cha, just my skills. =]

Thanks indeed Dhaavan. This will surely be of good use considering the circumstances. We will need every advantage we can get if she leads on a.merry chase. The sooner we pull abreast of her and can board her the happier I will be. I don't know if the extra boost will help me with my daily preparation of magic, but it should give me the insight I need to become a better captain. That knowledge would prove invaluable should I be in need of it talking to other captains or comparing strategies. Thanks again Dhaavan. I am sure I will have need of your abilities in crafting again sometime in the near future. Until that timely us prepare for the chase at hand and the excitement that follows.
Wasnt sure if the increase to int was retroactive as well for languages. If not that is fine, just thought I would throw it out there ahead of time.

Horatio Flynn |

GM - you indicated that following the ship would take "a few days".
Our ship needs 20 minimum to sail/captain it. This does not count men to man weapons - but we are out of range for them.
If we are sailing below minimum crew compliment, we can continue to sail ahead and change directions - provided the pilot makes at least a profession: sailor check of 20.
We currently have 36 sailing bodies on ship at this time.
If we are putting the crew on staggered watches - of 10 men each (this is half the crew needed via a "skeleton crew") and the acting pilot can net a total of "20" on their combined profession: sailor roll, that means we can sail after these guys non-stop through day and night, and still have our crew fully rested, as the ten "sailors" will have only been on duty for 8 hours at a time; 8 hours for sleep, and 8 hours for other duties.
All of this assumed that the pilots rotate shifts and can make a Profession: Sailor DC 20 check.
If the pilots are willing to do that, and they make the checks - how long would it take to reach the opposing ship in terms of days?

Adular |

If Adular should catch the captain's ear for a moment, "Captain? I don't know how much ye know of the power ecclesiastical, but If be there any spells of a particular style you'll be wanting me to ask the lady for that are in me power, but leave me know and I'll try to have em ready by the time we close."

No. The skill associated with the magic item represents the "retroactive" skill ranks you'd get from the item increasing your Intelligence. You don't get the item's built-in skill ranks and another set to assign however you want.
The real fun question is - what if the headband was made specifically for "Linguistics". Would that mean you get the full compliment of languages to go with the ranks? I don't know - this whole thing was pretty confusing to me. Like, it says you need to be CL 8 to make it; but I think that would only apply to the +6 item, but it doesn't specify (or maybe it does and I missed it). Anyhow, I figured I'd toss it out there, and hope that it is helpful. Though I suppose a final ruling is up to the GM, of course.

When Adular approaches Variel is curious as to what the half-elf wants.variel wasn't sure of his experience is such matters and was willing to answer any questions he might have. Instead of being squeamish about what was about to take place, Adular was matter of fact and to the point. Variel appreciated the candor and directness in the situation. Smiling, Variel responds, To tell you the truth I am not used to people asking me how they should best prepare themselves. Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses to which they know better than others. I would not presume to tell you how you should go about your task normally. However since you asked, I am sure that any aid you can bring will be worthwhile. Likewise, a prayer to Besmara at the right time I am sure would be appropriate and welcomed by all. Beyond that I will trust in your judgement as to how best to prepare yourself and ensure the lives of the crew. If you have any ideas that you think would be beneficial, plea let me know so we will be better prepared when we finally near our prey.

Horatio Flynn |

Crap - I misread the GM's notes - he said "Dusk on the Third Day". For some reason I was thinking he meant "three days later" (as in, three days after the 22).
Sorry, for any misunderstanding, I'm doing my best to keep track of things, as dates will probably be important for sailing time and crafting later, but after I made the post, I didn't see any clarification, and didn't realize it until just now.
If it is the night of the 25th formally, Dhaavan would have had 4 days to craft it (he started on the 22) so that's the 22, 23, 24, 25 - and he should be able to have it done right now to hand to Variel right now.
If it was 3 days from the first day we sailed, not 3 days after the officer's meeting, that's different; it is the 24th formally, and Dhaavan can hand Variel the Headband after working 8 hours on it on the 25th. That means that if Variel slept for eight hours on the night of the 25th, he will be able to wear it on the morning of the 26th with its powers.

Horatio Flynn |

** spoiler omitted **
Thank you for the clarification. I was never really sure how magical crafting worked, having never played a character who did crafting (magical or otherwise) before this.
I really appreciate your help in the matter :)

"Well, Captain, it ain't a kindly spell, but if you'd like sometime, I might be able to call the lightning at least once," He smirks, "Fog cloud might be doable as well." Yay Weather Domain

”Oye me foin Master Chief, that ship be so far from ours we canna hit her tonight unless Bessie herself belched that whore back into our poxing range,” calls one of the newer men on the forward artillery, his accent filled a pronounced northern dialect.
Watching the ship in the distance Horatio’s eyes narrow and he pounds the gunwale.
”Gods damn it,” he growls out.
He turns to Shivikah –
”Dismiss the men to their regular duties; we’re at least two days from that thing – have them ready to work where they’re needed to sail, as per the orders from them on the quarterdeck."
"Oh, and when we get close enough to hit it – then sound the alarm for the gun crews,” he adds with a tight voice to Shivikah.
Shivikah nods.
”Get ye gone den, ye scum; da bloody Master Chief don’t be needing you to be standing around and be watching us close on dat whore of a ship – he be wanting you miserable bleeders to be doing da work dat needs done to be making da ship go faster; now go be asking da poxing captain what dat be!” she roars out at them, and the men scramble from the artillery to do what they need to “make the ship go faster”.
Okay, well – whenever we’re ready, I’m good to go.

Arodus 24th

Location: On the Foredeck
Apologies on the incorrect date; I did not see the error until recently, and it is in fact the 24th. If anyone notices such an error in the future, please let me know and I will correct it.
Horatio’s eyes continue to stare balefully on the ship ahead; the blood dried blood still dark on his face.
As the men are about their duties, he turns again to Shivikah.
”Remind them the terms still stand on the purse, when we reach her, and thank them for their loyalty,” he adds with a grunt.
She nods and moves off.
Scowling at the ship, he hops on the foredeck and pulls himself into the rigging, easing himself in the lines and watches the ship run from them.
Staring at the waves in front of him, he feels the bank and ebb of the ship in the water. As his eyes stare ahead he watches the water and soon sings softly...
I see the summer moon,
It waxes on the waves
I see my prey run fast;
I’ll send them to their graves…
Oh gods high above…
Oh gods deep below…
I long for battle, blood and death…
You’ve seen my heart; you know…
My blade’s not tasted blood
It hunger’s by my side
I long to ram it deep
And make that hunger die
Oh gods high above…
Oh gods deep below…
I long for battle, blood and death…
You’ve seen my heart; you know…
It burns within my chest
The flame that never dies
I’ll lift my blooded blade
Hell will hear my cry!
Oh gods high above…
Oh gods deep below…
I long for battle, blood and death…
You’ve seen my heart; you know…
If I had a heart I’d hate
If I had a blade I’d kill
If I had a oath I’d break
- all to simply sail…
Oh gods high above…
Oh gods deep below…
I long for battle, blood and death…
You’ve seen my heart; you know…

Seijiro |

oh crud - none of this was updating for me - I thought no one was posting in the ic forum... Now I've got some reading to catch up on...

Seijiro |

Seijiro readies himself as much as he can for the task at hand - the taking of another ship, or at least its cargo. Mostly this is mental preparation, since he isn't at the wheel and his job as quartermaster isn't really required until plunder is actually acquired. He does write a small prayer to Hei Feng and wrap a small handful of gold coins in the paper, ready to cast it all overboard at the appropriate moment.

DM Immortal |

Ok so to clarify, you see the ship at dusk on the third day. If you travel through the night and go after the ship that way then you should catch up to them in two days if everything goes right. Now that said, we need to make 3 opposed Profession:Sailor checks in order to see if you can catch them at all. If you get 2 out of 3 or better then you will be able to catch them. The opposite is also true though, get less than that and the ship will manage to escape you.

Rain Taneththir |

I am headed to bed soon and I won't be on the boards again until my morning, so I will post them all now so as to not slow you guys down in the northern hemisphere. Night!
Prof. Sailor Check 1: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
Prof. Sailor Check 2: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
Prof. Sailor Check 3: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33
If one person would like to aid Rain in these checks, I believe it is doable based on our last chase of the Kurstav (Aspis Consortium ship). Is this correct, GM Imm?

DM Immortal |

Correct, although with those rolls I'll doubt you need it lol.
1d20 ⇒ 20
1d20 ⇒ 7
You won two out of three easily, you will be able to catch up and move into range at dusk of the second day after spotting the ship. Once you all determine what you are going to do or if there are any conversations you want to have, I will move along to the battle.

Seijiro |

Seijiro would have assisted but since it's not necessary, I won't bother to make the rolls - well done, Rain!

Dhaavan |

We spot the ship on the 24th, give chase the 25th and catch up Dusk of the 25th. Dhaavan finishes Variel's headband the evening of the 25th.
Dhaavan rises early on the 26th, and gets to work as soon as the Captain's cabin becomes available and crafts for a chunk of the morning (4 hours) then he is among the crew assisting as they prepare for battle.
Gonna discuss strategy at lunch break

Adular |

No point in my rolling either, nice work by Rain!
While the cleric tightens lines, lends a hand to the deck crew as it is needed, and so on, he can't help but whistle low as he sees Rain's skill as a sailor in play over the next few days. She's as good as any I've seen on any deck.
As they close, he begins a prayer out loud for the crew to hear, motioning any others who worship her to feel free to doff caps for a moment, "Besmara! Queen o Pirates, hear our our plea! Yonder lays the prize, and we hunger for the gold and good it carries! Lend us a hand, Black Lady, and show how you favor the bold! Let our foes know fear and bow in submission to yer ways, the better to loot them and spread your name and ours!, Should any pirate here pass with your name in his heart, let him awaken on your crew where he can raid the eternal seas! Even in death, a pirate may yet seize fortune! Give our captain cunning and fierceness. Lend strength to each of our arms and hearts!" He holds up a bottle of wine, "In tribute to ye, I have here a bottle of the finest wine I could find! Drink of it, Banshee o the sea, and drink deep!" Popping the bottle, he flings it out into the ocean where it lands with a splash, "A toast to ye, Goddess, and to your favor! May it ever shine on the Dread Lady and her crew!"
Scratch one bottle of fine wine from gear.
Then he turns among those what doffed their hats, "I thank ye for joining in, brothers and sisters o the faith. Now, back to work, for we close in on the hunt! HA!"

DM Immortal |

Actually it's spot ship on 24th, give chase 25th and 26th, catch up dusk of 26th so you have plenty of time.

DM Immortal |

Nice one Adular. I won't do this all the time but everyone can get +1 to their first attack roll of the engagement due to Adular's inspirational speech and for Besmara's blessing from the offering.

Adular |

nice! Thank you! He thought about throwing in a line about there being a few damsels on board the enemy ship with a weakness for pirating types, but figured that might push his luck with either the goddess or the female members of the crew :)

![]() |

Variel doffs his hat when Adular gives his speech and asks for Besmara's blessing. When finished Variel gives a rousing cheer as well for the good priest. With a speech like that he knew the crew would put their all into capturing their prey. Sure enough with their work and Rain's guidance the prey steadily drew closure until dusk the second day of the chase. Variel had already prepared the day before for the eventual combat but took the opportunity to meditate before the call came for all hands on deck. He knew that once the cry came up there would be no time for anything other than the engagement. That was fine with him as he itched to board the ship and take the prize.
The only task he performed outside the normal was to inquire of Adular, So tell me priest of the Lady. Dd she grant you her blessing again this morning and fulfill the request you made of her? Spells ready and prepped?
Ready for the combat.

Adular |

When the captain inquires of Besmara and her blessings, Adular smiles, "I think I have most o what I asked for, captain, though she gave me a few I weren't expecting to spice things up." He explains what's at his command.
Should be on the current alias write up
"I noticed ye doff your cap. Twas a good example for the crew, and the lady, while precarious, is said to be pleased when a captain shows respect most of all. Understand, oft times she needs placating as much as she does flattering. She's a woman as well as a goddess, after all, and her moods can be silverquick. But aye, I have a fine feeling about her favor in this."

Dhaavan |

Dang, well add that in next time, eh?
Imm, that was a typo... meant to write Catch dusk the 26th...lol
Noon of the 26th
Dhaavan strides out of the Captain's quarters after a Half-day's work, and grins at how close their quary is. Locating as many officers as he can he talks strategy for the attack. "So how we want to coordinate this assault? Figure we hit em with siege, cripple the sails or rudder, maybe the wheel? Do that till we get to em?"
"We got folk what's I know the Cap'n tends ta charge in, and Jiro's got his ways for swingin over, but the rest o us? I'll likely vanish afore we get to em, summon some eagles on the approach, then drop a Hell Hound on the deck as we grapple o're. Then I can conjusr a pit for them what at the wheel, so there'll be no way to control the ship," Dhaavan explains with a vicious grin. "Adular, Flynn, Rain?"
Imm, how would we use the Boarding Pike? Last time, Rain rolled a sailing check to grapple and then we were good, so if rain just has the pike, she sailing check's us in, and can use it normally?
Can I time it out to prep with
Vanish about 90 ft out
Sm2 cast about 30 ft away
Eagles appear and attack, cast SM2, while we have to grapple
Hellhound appears as the party moves in to attack?
Or at least have the eagles appear the round we can grapple over and cast SM t for my dog?

![]() |

Depending on what we find for a ship and her allegiance, Variel wouldn't mind trying to keep it and bring it to port to be sold. If we are too far away from a port then do like we have been doing. Just thinking that a sailing vessel is 10000gp and even if we can only sell it for 4000gp that is a nice profit. Of course we might need to have 4 join our crew to make two crews of 20 so we can sail both ships.

Dusk (roughly 8:00 PM as sunset is around 7:36 in Arodus 26th)
Location: On the Foredeck by Catapult
Moon Cycle: More than half a moon; full moon on the 31st
Weather Conditions: To be determined by GM
At this time Horatio is once again back by the artillery.
He seems worn out and eager to act.
He reapplies fresh blood to his face, his eyes cold and intent on the ship.
Knowing that they are closing he mutters in a raw voice to Shivikah – ”Get the crews to their stations. Tonight there will be blood.”
As Shivikah moves to obey, he says no more, but simply stares ahead. By his side stands Amen-set. Her fair features are marred by a slight frown, for she is somewhat concerned by the attitude of her hatey-a'; his mood has been dark, and it has been growing steady on him. Whatever is driving his emotions, she hopes it will be slaked this day.
She eases the strap that holds her shield to her back and slings it forward and around to her arm; fastening it on, then grips her spear firmly.
Horatio pauses to take out his pistol and check the priming. Satisfied, he puts it back into its holster.
Next to his feet is the same sack Piper had brought him earlier. He says nothing about its contents, however, his eyes continuing to stare ahead with a fixed eagerness. Piper stands by his side, ready to carry out whatever “offering” he had asked of her before.
Horatio says nothing at this time, though, his thoughts are on other matters, it seems; though he is ready for action.
GM – I am indeed ready for action. However, before I attempt a shot, I’ll need to know range. FYI – siege combat is pretty complex; please be patient with me when I take actions on it. Thank you!
Dhaavan – remember; dusk is at nighttime, shortly after sunset, not at noon :)

”But as for what target he picks – without such knowledge of the enemy, it would be folly to guess at the best target, yes?” she adds, watching you over her shoulder; her blue eyes now fierce and eager to follow the heart of her chief into battle, if battle indeed is his will.
Just waiting on recon at this point – until we get into range, I guess. When that happens, we’ll act. Formally the light catapult is loaded with a rock, and we’re ready to roll.
Also, given that this is a potential “night combat” I assumed having weather notes and the moon cycle could be handy, so I added them, too. I don’t know if it’s cloudy, rainy, foggy, windy or what – but I guess that’s up to the GM. Hopefully it’s a clear night, but I guess we’ll have to find out :)

Dhaavan |

I am aware that dusk is not noon. I finished working at noon, then came out to strategize at NOON. So dhaavan's ret-con-ing a bit, as opposed to not preparing at all. =]

Seijiro |

Seijiro walks to the stern and takes out a small bundle, coins wrapped in paper... He utters something briefly, unheard by anyone but himself, and then drops the bundle into the water, coins tumbling into the waves and the paper fluttering into the breeze, eventually settling on the water itself.
With a small smile on his face and a spring in his step, he stalks the deck a bit, pacing. His gaze strays from our own sails to the view of the enemy ship regularly. He seems ready for action, and anxious for something to do.

Adular |

"We got folk what's I know the Cap'n tends ta charge in, and Jiro's got his ways for swingin over, but the rest o us? I'll likely vanish afore we get to em, summon some eagles on the approach, then drop a Hell Hound on the deck as we grapple o're. Then I can conjusr a pit for them what at the wheel, so there'll be no way to control the ship," Dhaavan explains with a vicious grin. "Adular, Flynn, Rain?"
"As they say, I like the cut of your jib. I think the captain sees me mostly as laying down some prayers that help a man fight, either whole crowds, or just helping one sword. So I prayed for many a thing in that vein. I'll curse the foe too, little bit. Not so fancy as what you've got going I fear. Now I do have a big of fog I can lay down, but frankly, that might befuddle us as much as they."

Dhaavan |

GM, how fast is the enemy going? Jack can fly 160 ft/round with a full run, so whenever Jack can get in range to scout some
"There's thinkin," Dhaavan acknowledges. If/and when possible, Dhaavan says, "Jack, go on ahead and scout the enemy a li'l, eh? See what kind o' whatnot they got on em yeah? Crew, seige-weaponry, wether or not they got oars an' such?"

Rain Taneththir |

At dawn, before she broke her fast and took the helm once more, Rain found a quiet corner of the ship, away from the business of readying for the upcoming tussle with the sighted/targeted vessel.
She closed her eyes and let her mind go of the current concerns and preparations. She concentrated on her breathing and the sound of the sea, air and birds. Rain quietly spoke to her gods and listened to the song of the water all around her. Rain sits for an hour preparing her ranger spell for the day, arming herself with additional magic in case it is necessary.

Rain Taneththir |

After completing her meditation, Rain feels energised and surveys the sky, clouds, water, feels the air about her, determining what the weather forecast will be this day and perhaps further.
Know. Nature: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Survival (Predict the weather up to 24 hours in advance. For every 5 points by which your Survival check result exceeds 15, you can predict the weather for one additional day in advance.): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
It looks like Rain has predicted the next 24 hours and 3 days after that as well?

Seijiro |

LMAO, I read your first post as 'before she broke her foot' at first... anyway - great survival roll, better than the weather girl on channel 2!

DM Immortal |

When you get within half a mile you all are able to see that this is another Rahadoumi ship flying a Rahadoumi flag. A two masted schooner (sailing ship), you can see two ballista on the aft part of the ship.
Dhaavan, how close did you want to get before you sent Jack?

Horatio Flynn |

I am aware that dusk is not noon. I finished working at noon, then came out to strategize at NOON. So dhaavan's ret-con-ing a bit, as opposed to not preparing at all. =]
Ah – gotcha! Sorry, my bad completely ;)
Arodus 26th
Time: Roughly noon
Location: On the Maindeck
Horatio hears Dhaavan’s comments and glances at him with a casual look.
”There’s a lot of things we could do, I’d guess,” he says slowly.
”First things first, though – if we’re doing this at all, we function better as a team, yes?” he adds, looking at the First Officer.
Turning to Adular, he addresses the Half-elf.
”I’m sure you know that this kind of combat gets sloppy. We charge over their for the most part, and you can barely keep track of yourself and your mates as you’re rushing around. Other then you and the uglies on you, you hardly know what’s happening to your crew in general, or where they are,” he adds with a frown.
Mass Combat for the ship’s regular sailors – the PC’s verse a few important NPC’s – and we don’t really know what happens with the rest of the company until it’s over is all.
”Right now we got a good company of lads on board – nearly twice that needed to sail the ship,” he muses slowly.
”Even if we toss grapples and charge across – even if the lads can stand shoulder to shoulder from stem to stern; we can barely get fifteen bodies to cross in one wave; and it’s a sure thing we’ll field less, as we’ll have to charge through a nasty mess to get across.”
He ponders a moment.
”Dhaavan – as we’re moving up to the ship, if you used that wand to hit their bridge with a “Grease” spell, you’d be able to prevent them from doing much work at the helm, at least – not easily, as it’s a moderate spread.”
”Variel does more damage in a knife-fight than the whole company put together, so it’s makes sense that he leads the charge – but I say it’d be better before he does for us to soften them up a bit with some ranged weapons; at least to have them keep their head down.”
He spits a stream of tobacco juice to the leeward and thinks a bit more.
”Provided Adular’s willing; giving us a “Bless” spell before we fire ranged weapons and the wand – that’d be right handy,” he says, looking back to the Half-elf.
”Knowing a bit about priests,” he adds dryly, thinking about his mother a moment ”I reckon that Adular – again; if he’s willing – should kind of be surrounded by us. If we keep him inside a tight net, as it were, by surrounding him with our bodies – well, if we start hurting he can either touch us to heal – or, in a pinch – use a blast of holy healing when “channels” the favor of his goddess.”
”Once we hit deck, it’ll pretty much be hack and slash; but Dhaavan, if you’re willing – I’d keep about ten lads on our ship to guard the helm; leave Sandy on the wheel, and a few of the lads here to make sure things stay safe, just in case.”
”We hop over in waves of eight; every few seconds we’ll have new lads coming until we got about twenty-four or twenty-five lads on their ship. That means we leave about twelve or so lads on board here to make sure any of their whore’s don’t come charging in to cause trouble on our side; sort of a rearguard.”
”And in a pinch, the twelve lads on here – with us – means we at least got enough folk to sail our ship decent-like if things go south hard.”
He spits another stream of tobacco juice.
”Well, that’s about all – anybody else got an idea?” he asks casually.
