Piper Goes to Work:

Dhaavan – if you have given Piper the needed materials to fashion you the clothing, her current design for you is “Silk Ceremonial Armor” – she will inlay it with leather lining for warmth outside, if you like. If not – it is standard armor. That’s up to you. As for the logo on it – that’s completely up to you; you pick it when she gets the “parts”. The following roll will just tell us how long that will take.

”High Quality Item” – DC 15

Craft Check

Edit: Dhaavan - via the check, it should be done in a little less than a day and a half

To Dhaavan:

”I from the east,” she says slowly.

”But I am sailor. I have good experience in sailing,” she adds.

”But I have other talents as well, though I am not a fighter.”

”I have served with both a ship’s company as well as caravans in the east, so I know about working with others well,” she adds a bit more matter-of-factly.

”These things are not hard for me, I think.”

She ponders your question.

”I have been to the Baazar before – I can do well with business arrangements, among other things.”

”I can heal, and know a few tricks, but if you would like to see my talents – give me a challenge and test me. I shall do my best, and you can judge me well on that.”

She cocks her head and regards your eyes quizzically.

Switching to Draconic:

”Your bloodline is ancient – but there is other lineage far older…” she says softly but politely.

She awaits your pleasure on her earlier question.

The Falcon:

The falcon regards you with almost surprised eyes, as it suddenly guesses your lineage.

Than they narrow almost more ruthlessly – as if it has dealt with kindred before…

When Rain mentions his amulet and a possible secret map or compartment, Variel has to stifle a remark. Of ourselves he has student the amulet. He knows Rain is trying to help and they had just reconciled a prior misunderstanding. Instead he slowly reaches up and draws the amulet forth. He does not unclasp it. Instead he stands up and walks over to Rain for her to look at it. If you can find something on it take a look. However I have not taken it off for someone else ever.

There was something in Variel's manner that gave Rain pause to feel as if she had once again spoken out of turn. She had not meant any disrespect; only trying to unravel the riddle. Did I unwittingly offend him with my question?

When Variel drew closer to her and lifted the amulet up from its place around his neck so she could look upon it, she tentatively reached up and felt across and under the amulet, observing its make and structure before Variel stepped back.

Perception (looking for anything unusual or of note on the amulet that may have been previously overlooked or unseen): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29

"Thank you for showing the amulet to me, Variel."

Imm, does Rain see anything worth of note on or about the amulet? Or has other knowledge?

Finally getting the chance to relax after his first day of taxing mental labor, Dhaavan almost absently says, "Maybe Jiro could take a look at it, got an eye for that sort o' thing, just in case whomever gave it to ya had that kind o' mind. Not that yea don't know everythin what can be seen aobut your amulet, but rather, sommat what can't be discovered without knowing what might be there already. Like a puzzle-box." he shrugs, "Or its not, and there's no deepa' mystery."

"Now best solution is be ready. Nobody's gonna babysit ya cap'n but we dont' want nuthin happnin to ya, so jest don't be reckless, eh? Other'n that we just keep doin what we do."

"On that note, after hitting the shipping lanes it may be a good call to discuss plans about the Rock. So as we know better what we're ready for."

GM &Piper:
I'd initially been aiming for a simple Reversible Cloak from the goods and services, as it has not occurred to me that we could use the Eastern armors, but if I'd be allowed Silken Ceremonial Armor and can enchant it later, then that's pretty cool as it has no Arcane Failure Chance. May need to tweek my design for what it looks like.
May end up asking for both, if i can come up with a good idea for the armor design. =]

At Dhaavan's remark, Rain steps aside so Jiro may look at the amulet, if he chooses to. Apparently she had no skill whatsoever according to the sorceror, even as she had just looked at the amulet for the very same reason he was going on about. If she had found a secret compartment, she would have asked Jiro to see if he could open it. But the point was moot now.

She keeps silent.

There is nothing on the amulet and noone can recall having heard the word before your encounters with Variel.

During the meeting you hear someone call out from the watch that something is approaching. As you head outside you see Camm hovering about 20' over the deck on Cyclone. He waves and says You didn't think I'd leave you high and dry without a replacement did you? He seems very pleased with himself. You see he is carrying a rider with him who drops to the deck and approaches you all.

As soon as he is off, Camm salutes, gives a wave to Horatio and says Sorry we couldn't sail together mate but duty calls! with that he flies off.

Adular, you are free to introduce yourself. I would suggest starting off with asking permission to be aboard lol.

”Begging your pardon – everyone’s got notes on this Rock place, right? Well, can anyone make a map and some charts about what we know? Like maybe a sketch? Something that we can put on paper to work with?” he adds from his spot against the door as he turns his eyes toward the group.

”Nothing personal Nightstorm – but you got this Shanxia thing on you all your life and we’ve all heard about it and studied it – but I reckon that unless Divine Providence manages to swoop in and jog our memory on what we’ve seen or considered that we ain’t getting anywhere fast on that mystery.”

”Maybe we ought to talk about this target now, if that’s alright?” he adds neutrally.

”I mean to say – you got notes on the place; so what are we talking about? If it’s an island they must got a port, right? And likely it’s got fortifications to cover it, like old man Ricekty had at his port.”

”But do we have to fight their fort, or can we swing alee of the place and avoid it altogether? I mean – can we move in from the opposite side and send in a skiff at night, then move up to the base and cut a few throats and signal the ship to come in guns blazing as soon as the guns are spiked?”

”What are the currents like, or the size of the place – and when we get all that on the table, what exactly do we need to do to make it happen that we haven’t done yet?”

”We got enough guns; are the lads armed enough, and if not – how do we get them more arms – and men, if we need them.”

”Should we pirate another ship or two on the way to pinch some more loot and lads to get this done, or just stab there fast?”

He pulls out a cheroot and lights up, taking a draw from it.

”Anyhow, I’m thinking we all wracked our head on this Shanxia thing long enough, no offense. But unless something new comes to us – in which case, sure, let’s keep talking on it. But unless that’s going to happen any time soon, does anyone know more about this Rock place?” he adds, exhaling.

The man deposited before them is dressed in pirate finery, a proper coat with brass buttons over his leathers, high boots, and sash. His hat has a fine feather. A silver symbol of Besmara adorns his neck. He doffs the hat with a flourish, "Beggin your pardon for the intrusion, lads and lasses. Me name be Adular Bluuth, and I was told by the kindly gent that you might have need of an able bodies cleric. I sure hope I'm welcome," The half elf's sea green eyes turn to the water the ship is now moving through, "Because, clearly, there would be a long swim home."

Seijiro hears the shouts up on the deck and excuses himself from the meeting, unsure if the others are coming at first or not. He shrugs and continues up on deck when the others indicate they are coming as well. When he sees Camm hovering over the deck he just watches quietly and lofts a brow when Camm announces he's brought another crewmember for the ship. He observes quietly as Camm flies off, then turns his attention to the newcomer, looking him over carefully, wondering who he is and what he's about.

Horatio charges outside and sees his friend hovering the air and watches him drop off a new man on the deck of the ship.

He watches his friend laugh and wave – and watches him turn to sail off into the sky.

”Camm…” he says in a choked voice, shocked at what he just saw.

At this point his eyes suddenly loose whatever light that they had.

He turns to the beam nearest him and beats his fist against it brutally.

"Hullo, I'm Seijiro, quartermaster of the Dread Lady. Welcome aboard. It seems you're stuck with us, and us with you, so we'd best get to know each other. This is Captain Variel, Pilot Rain, First Mate Dhaavan, and Chief Gunner Flynn." He indicates each person as he introduces them.

Please excuse the somewhat excessive use of the “Title” in my OOC’s. There is a lot of RP in this game, and I’ve had issues when I’ve gotten confused as to who said what, to who – and when and where. This is for my benefit so I don’t get confused as to where I am when I talk :)

The man you saw beating his fists is wearing black trousers; no shoes or socks, no shirt. He has a scruffy beard and long hair – unkempt and loose about his shoulders.

There is an ugly scar on his right forearm and his hands are now covered in blood – he was not striking the beam for “non-lethal” damage, by the way.

Around his waist is a belt; there is a pistol low-slung on his right thigh, and a dagger above it. Another dagger is strapped behind his back – a short sword at his left thigh and another pistol tucked above it. Finally a whip hangs from a loop on his belt.

Horatio turns his eyes suddenly to the man, stands up – his face calming.

Moving forward to him he ignores the blood dripping off his hands.

”I am Horatio Flynn – a friend of Camm; the man who ferried you here,” he says with a somewhat strained voice, as if struggling with some inner issue.

He glances to the east and reckons their distance from Blood Cove.

”That’s a hell of a flight – are you hungry or thirsty?” he adds, his eyes lusterless and dull, though is voice is genteel and his tone polite and sincere.

Rain had followed Jiro out after hearing the commotion on deck. There stood a finely dressed pirate, Besmara's symbol around his neck proudly, and the Skylord flying off into the distance on his hippogriff. A sight to behold indeed.

Then the newcomer spoke, introducing himself and Flynn savagely beat his fists against the beam nearest him. Rain tilted her head at the strange action. He must be upset that his friend is leaving.

Not to appear rude, Rain steps forward and acknowledges the cleric of Besmara, after Jiro's introduction.

The stranger will see a tall Elven woman, fair of skin, with long, dark blue hair and bright turquoise eyes.

"Ah, well met, Priest Adular. As Jiro has stated I am Rain, the pilot of this fair vessel." She watches the cleric intently and wonders what Variel will say to this circumstance.

"You say you will sail with us. Have you any experience on the water?" What a strange happening. Besmara must indeed have plans for us if we receive such a crewman at this particular moment.

As Horatio regards the newcomer, his eyes seem to focus again – and sharpen in intensity, as if he is deliberately dismissing his emotions.

He watches the man intently, as if studying him carefully.

Then he shrugs.

Turning a moment to the other crewmembers – who he deems have more to do than gawk at this newcomer, he calls out to them –

”Oye – back to your posts, lads – the ship won’t sail herself.”

His eyes roam the gaggle of men around him who each seem to shake themselves out of their shock and go back to work.

As his eyes move over the crew on the deck they eventually rest on a tall gangly lad wearing desert gear and a long turban and wrap around his face.

”Amen-set – a drink for our new companion…” Horatio calls out.

The robed lad nods briskly and hurries below to grab something to drink.

Reaching for a pouch at his belt, Horatio pulls out a cheroot and raises it to his lips – pausing a moment.

In Elven:

”If you are a friend of Camm; you are a friend of mine. I apologize for my sudden outburst – a moment of passion; but it has passed.”

He nods his head politely.

”Well met, sir,” he says, his voice more cordial now.

”You fancy a smoke?” he asks the half-elf solicitously.

Variel is the last to leave the cabin making sure to lock the door behind him as he goes. This could be a distraction to gainentrance to his cabin or something no more sinister than a commotion deck because the crew has seen a whale beech next to them. Funny how everyone is ready to rush up before being prepared when we just talked about making sure everyone was aware of what is going on.

Likewise to ensure that he is prepared, Variel spends a couple more seconds to cast shield on himself before finally closing the door behind him and stepping foot on the main deck. As such he missed most of Camm's fair well but caught the last about finding a replacement for the group. He sees an man arrive on the deck with clearly elven blood flowing in his veins. Interesting, I never even thought of half-elves as a possible threat to me just full blooded elves. Must keep myself from looking down a narrow path.

Variel sees the self mutilation going on by Flynn and chooses not to answer the new comers inquiry. Not that he is trying to be rude, but he doesn't have an answer for why someone would try to damage one's self. Stepping forward Variel sees the cleric wearing a symbol of Besmara p. Clearly strange fates have led us here but why is the question. First the tellings, now him, coincidence or not?

Giving the man a chance to introduce himself, Variel nods his head when Jiro introduces everyone. Variel will let him talk first before indicating his thoughts. The only thing Variel does speak, is to invite them all back in to talk in private. First though, Variel unlocks the door to allow everyone in.

A flask is brought to Horatio by the desert youth who watches the Half-elf with bright blue eyes that stare over a veil, studying the newcomer intently as Horatio plucks the flask up.

”My thanks,” Horatio says with a nod at the drink.

He tosses the flask to the Half-elf deftly.

”It’s rum out of a port back on the Slithering Coast – picked it up on our last mission there. It’s tweaked a bit with some fresh lime juice; did that this morning – hope you don’t mind,” he adds exhaling twin plumes of smoke from his nostrils briskly.

Seeing that Variel has open the cabin and gesturing them inside, he nods.

”Thank’ee indeed,” Horatio says to Variel.

”Come on, then – enjoy it and drink up,” he adds, clapping a bloody hand on the new lad’s back and giving him a friendly smile.

"Aye, healing is a gift one does not turn away. It is good you have experience on ships, for we are in need of fine sailors." She gives the cleric a small, but friendly smile.

Hearing Variel reconvene their meeting, Rain makes her way back to him, but with a simple request to the newcomer. "If you would follow me, Priest Adular."

Back in the captain's cabin, Seijiro settles himself sitting loosely crosslegged on the bed. He lets Tomo, the monkey, free from his shoulder to wander about the room. He absently plays a few notes on his harmonica while the others enter and settle themselves in the room, but when all are finally in attendance again, he puts the small instrument away, and sits attentively. His eyes straying from one person in the room to another, they eventually settle on the newcomer.

Well, he certainly dresses the part of a pirate. I hope he's as skilled as he appears to be. And Rain is of course, correct, more healing on board is always welcome. I hope Sandara and he get along well. Maybe they even know each other?

Horatio moves politely out of Rain’s way, his hand still laying comfortably on the shoulder of the newcomer he follows Rain into the cabin.

”Here, take my chair,” he exclaims expansively to he Half-elf gesturing to one of the chairs that was at the table.

He moves to the side of the door and let the others enter the cabin and then takes up his position near the door again after everyone who is coming in gets inside.

After the last person enters he closes the door and leans back against it, lifting his knee up comfortably and pressing his heel against behind him to steady himself as he pulls another drag from the cheroot.

He feels the aching throb in his hands from when he had smashed against the wood and welcomed the pain and embraced it. A sudden thought enters his head and he smiles briefly.

Humph! I missed my mate, and blood was offered. And as soon as I spill it I meet another lad who's both friendly and seems like a goodly lad as well.

A as a strange sardonic light shines in his eyes.

I reckon that the gods listen better to blood offering after all…

Ha! But you already knew that, didn’t you, lad?

He exhales a long stream of the smoke and chuckles softly to himself, curious to know what the others will say next – and equally curious to know if this new lad will answer his question on how he knew Camm…

Or if it really was Fate which lead him to their ship…

The half elf catches it smoothly enough, "Lime? Helps fight the scurvy, so I hear," Adular smiles, "To your ship, your health, and your crew's standing with the goddess." the half elf takes a healthy swig after toasting. "Camm and I got to talking, but nay, I did not know him long. Seems like a capital fellow though and helped me out in a pinch." The sailor seems to realize the man like more details, "He found me belly aching about having missed the latest ship, turns out to be yours. See having visited me father, I was in powerful need of getting back to the ways of Besmara. Seas, adventure, and piracy... So he shows an interest in me. I think to me self, this man wants something. Could be me good looks from me mother's side," A grin very wide and human looking crosses Adular's face, "Not that I'd judge, but I prefer the ladies. But nay, he says to me, looking for a ship are ye? I say yes, and he starts to talk about how he had to leave a crew and it didn't sit well with him to do so entire . Mentioned a friend or two he was worried about. I tell him if I could walk on water, I'd run after and take his place, and gladly. He laughed, and said he had something better...damn me, if I didn't end up in the air higher than any deck loving son of a pirate should ever be."

Mostly true, lord knows I've seen some 'captains' I'd not give two squirts in a spittoon for, but these folk seem a bit of alright, and usually where there are decent swabs for officers, the captain is ship shape as well.

He takes the seat offered, after waiting for Rain to sit down first. Noticing Horatio's hands, and remembering the man's blow, he says, "Would you like me to be fixing that up there, Chief Gunner?"

Horatio laughs a bit at Aldura’s suggestion that Camm might prefer men and women.

”Camm’s a Skylord – they serve as marines on ships. When it came to his preference for whoring with women or buggering boys… well, I learned a while back when dealing with marines and that sort of question, you don’t ask or tell…” he says with a grin around the smoke.

Hearing the offer to heal his wounds, he raises his bloody hands to his face and examines them a bit, seeming to consider overlong the answer to such an easy question.

You beat your hands in rage – but then, blood was offered; though not through intent. Even so – the gods seem to have answered for this fellow is friendly enough and could easily be a mate to you all. The question is - would it slight the One that you gave the blood to, if you then healed the wounds?

He glances at the beams above for a second, as if another thought entered his mind.

For the sake of all the gods, boy! Don’t be a fool, if you can help it, eh? You were angry that you had lost a friend – you had muttered that unless Divine Providence would “drop something in from heaven” that you wouldn’t have help. And then? Out of the damn sky – literally – comes this fellow!

He’s friendly, seems trusty enough, yes? He came with a friend - and you know at least as Camm was attacked by ninja that he wouldn’t have brought or worked with one of their agents – also correct, yes? You offered blood, though in rage, true - but the basterd literally fell out of the heavens right after your blather about Divine Providence dropping help from the heavens! Well if that ain't a gods damned Good Omen, I don't know what is!

Meantime he stands ready to aid you as a friend without knowing you well and, if you’re at least using those “wits” you had bragged about, you can at least see the power of his spell and therefore judge his worth as a true healer on the ship.

After all – he may be a mere hedge priest, or just a simple surgeon – or he may have the skills to do what he speaks of. So shut your mind to such moody thoughts as it’s damn right stupid; let the lad be a friend and offer healing, as that’s fair enough thing for him to do; use your wits and observe the power of his spell so you can see his strength as a healer and so judge his skill; and - finally, stop all your brooding nonsense as it’s damn right annoying to the harmony of this bunch!

Oh – and when he does heal you – make sure you say “thank you” to him instead of scowling in the corner, you miserable little whore-son, whiny, spoiled, mama’s boy!

Horatio suddenly laughs loud and hard at his last thoughts and almost chokes on the smoke he is exhaling.

When his mirth subsides a bit he nods through the smoke.

”Aye – if you can heal me, I’d be indebted to you. Of course, I should warn you... the wounding was pretty bad – I beat that post a fair amount of times… ” he says with a somewhat challenging voice, though there is a merry twinkle in his eyes as he looks at the Half-elf.

The pirate priest lets go of the man's hands, still looking to the side, "Thank ye again, your worshipfulness! I'll pour a bit of rum over the side for you later. I know you prefer gold, but if you got everything you wanted easy you'd be bored and so would I."

At that, he seems to return his focus to the people around him, "Now don't get injured too soon again. She's a testy goddess, and like any woman don't appreciate being taken for granted."

Horatio watches Adular casually, but his eyes are intent, listening to the words of the spell being cast to gauge its worth.

Spellcraft Check to Identify the spell
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

Edit: Success!
HP healed 11 – down only 2. Good times!

As the casting is being done Horatio keeps his face neutral, but he instantly notices that the man is casting the lowest form of healing spell that a cleric may cast.

He is prepared to be completely unimpressed but such an exhibition...

However, after the spell is cast, he realized that it affected him with a very great potency – and enough to heal far beyond the powers of some novice priest.

In his estimation of what that spell did to his wound, it was clear to him that this Half-elf was very skilled with healing magic.

Flexing his fingers a bit, he nods his head at the work.

”My thanks indeed!” he says sincerely, somewhat impressed at the work.

”That was a good bit of work – you’ve done this sort of healing before, I’d warrant?” he adds with a wink.

Holding up his hand to show the others as he flexes it, he addresses the group.

”I’ve studied healing a lot – he just cast the weakest healing spell I know, and the bloody power inside this lad was enough to fix me far beyond that lot of any healer we got on board – Sandy included. I reckon that if we need a true ship’s cleric that this lad can get the job done proper!” he says, addressing the group with a grin.

”What do you all say to that?” he adds, eager to know what the others think.

Seijiro just sits quietly, his knees pulled up to his chest. He'd said his welcome to the priest, another one wasn't necessary, especially in response to Flynn. The gunslinger had done everything he could to make himself separate and set himself above and apart from the rest of the officers on the ship, and Seijiro felt no obligation to respond to his sudden bout of friendliness while he courted the newcomer. Adular seemed astute enough to figure things out on his own and soon enough. He just sighs and fiddles with the hem of his shirtsleeve, his eyes downcast.

He looks up finally and reaches for a fig from the small bag at his waist. He pulls it out and mutters a few words (casting prestidigitation if anyone wants to make their spellcraft roll), makes a pass with his hand and chills the fruit, handing the succulent morsel to the monkey. He gets one out for himself and chills it as well, simply by force of will the second time. He quietly munches while he watches the others, especially Rain, knowing she is a follower of Besmara.

He wondered for a moment about the woman Flynn had brought aboard. For someone who didn't like slavery, he sure treated her like one, barking orders at her to get this or fetch that. Ah well, soon enough who and what she was to Flynn, and on board the ship, would be made clear to all. Until then she was just another mouth to feed, though if Flynn were true to form, she'd be eating privately with him and Piper, and not with the crew or officers. Since this time Flynn brought his own foodstores aboard, at least they weren't taking from the communal stores anymore. He let the thought slip out of his mind again...

He finally looks up and at the newcomer Adular and can't keep the friendly smile off his face as he looks at him. Truly another healer was more than welcome on the ship, as Sandara would be hard pressed to keep up with all the damage that such a crew could incur while taking on other ships. We were just lucky last time. He speaks softly to Adular in his heavily accented Common, "It's good to hear you have skill at sea. We can always use experienced sailors, as well as a good healer. We are a bit short-handed, for sure. This..." he indicates the monkey, "is Tomo, my friend. He's mostly quite tame, nothing to be afraid of."

No worries – you’ve been busy. I understand completely. In the meantime, I’ll keep the ball rolling with some more details to flesh things out a bit. Nothing to worry about or even need to answer, just some more background on her that you can read whenever you’re able, but nothing pressing, just a chance to let me write, and give you some more details about her when you have the chance to read them.

I’ll warn you now – it’s long, yes – but again, if you have the time to read it, it’ll give you incidental details for RP, but nothing that really needs to be read, just if you want to.

Of course, that would go for anyone else who wants to read it; she will not hide any of these details from anyone on the ship, if they ask her – but she won’t volunteer them to the officers unless they approach her first and ask her directly. But Dhaavan, as you are formally conducting her “job interview” – she is giving you more details now.

Okay then, more details:

Amen-set turns a somewhat stern look to the Falcon in the room and admonishes his somewhat nasty expression to you with a frown.

She speaks to him quickly and briskly in the Osirioni tongue.

Then she turns to you and blushes a bit

”Apologies – my hatey-a’ – he told me much about you personally. But he said also that though your entire company knows many tongues, you have agreed that it is best to speak the Common Tongue so that all may know what is said.”

”I commend that decision of your party, and see it as good wisdom. Have not the wise often said – Secrets often breed division with confederates and something kept hidden can destroy the smallest family or the greatest kingdom. Aye, it is so.”

”My hatey-a’ has also told me that none among you speak the tongue of the Osirioni folk, but that is the language that Horus knows.”

”I should add to you now that I told my friend – ah, his name is Horus… Well, I told Horus that he should be calm. You are as a friend to us, for our hatey-a' has said it is true. And I also told him that he should not be so judgmental, for that is rude.”

She looks a bit embarrassed and avoids your eyes a bit.

Dhaavan, you’re savvy enough to know that she is not embarrassed at your bloodline. It is more likely that she is used to dealing with crusty older men and merchants at a bazaar, or grizzled older men in her homeland. Also, though you don't know her age formally, it’s likely that she is clearly only about sixteen or seventeen and you are a fairly young, charismatic and somewhat attractive man who is also about her age. Also, you also have a position of high rank on this ship. You do not think she is afraid of you, but for some reason she does seem a bit shy around you. As for why she is shy, well… I’ll leave that to your own guesses ;)

For more “crunch” on her, I did make a stat block on the page if you’d like to look things over.

Clearing her throat a bit, she proceeds.

”I should also say that I call Horatio of the House Flynn hatey-a’; for he will not permit me to call him “lord”, “master” or any other such title. Oh – hatey-a’ means… how do you say…” she adds the last to herself as if trying to translate in her head ”Apologies, it is hard to translate properly, but it means like “war chief” or simply “chief”.”

”In a battle with desert nomads there are many tribes which may unite, and in those tribes there are also many… how you say… “Companies of Men” – even so, all tribes may serve the same Warlord, and further, within the tribe – each Company of Men has their own “chief” to guide that group while in battle.”

”In battle there are many duties, and many masters… er, chiefs… they are in charge of many things. Some manage the chariots; others manage the archers. But even still; there would be various divisions of archers to move a Company to one place – and another Company to another place… Ah, but you know all of that,” she adds quickly, glancing past you a bit.

She blushes again.

”Apologies again – my hatey-a’ warns me that overlong speeches are not always a good thing on this ship . Your folk are busy with many duties, and prefer words to be direct, open and to the point. And yet I have forgotten this and have talked overlong even now…” she adds with a nervous laugh. ”But now you know at least a little on the meaning of that word, yes?” she adds hopefully.

She turns back again at the bird Horus, who is now ignoring you both to preen his feathers, as if a bit miffed.

”I am sorry for his look. I think he believed you to be djinn – we do not care for those creatures from my homeland…” she adds with a little frown, as if considering some memory.

She looks around the cabin and kind of ignores looking at you directly, as if nervous to meet your gaze.

As she sees your gear, her eyes widen a bit.

”Ah – you are magi, yes?” she asks, then waves her hand gently in front of you.

Casting “Detect Magic” – you probably won’t need to roll it.

She nods, fairly impressed at your gear.

”I hope you are equally happy at my own skills,” she adds, now trying to “turn on the charm” with you a bit, eager to hear what you have to say.

This pretty-boy of naut seventeen with no finery or trappngs of office, weapons, etc, loungin at the doorstop in a simple set of breeches and a gaudy varisian vest. He waits as Adular holda the door for Rain, saying "Glad ta have ya on board. I'll introduce ya to our priestess later." At this proximity Adular's keen elf-eyes can note that obscured by the boy's relaxed smirk are eyes akin to sulpherous pits observing him. "Nice work with Flynn, by the way," giving Adular a genuinely warm smile.

"So yer old man lives in Bloodcove? He know a ol' seadog named Ghramm Callders, used ta have a hook for a hand but traded it in for a mug. Real pretty daughter, a real fiesty las?" DHaavan asks, curious about any more strings of fate are tangled here, or rather the extent of his Lady's medeling...

Dhaavan was becoming known for his dalliances and perhaps this was another? He then sighs softly, wondering when or if he'd ever find a young woman he wanted to couple with. Not that the humanoids he'd met weren't pretty or nice enough, but all of them lacked something he was still looking for and he wasn't sure exactly what that even was yet. Someday perhaps...

Seems a friendly fellow... "Hello Tomo, nice to meet ye as well," He nods to the monkey, before turning attention fully on Seijiro, "Ye've all been so kind, It sounds like I'll be among a fine crew."

The First mate waves to the Half-elf as Jiro gives his introduction, striking Adular as rather odd.

Gods, and I thought 'I' looked young.

"Ghramm? Aye! My father and he were mates more than once, between the two of them it's hard to tell much leg is getting pulled. Did you ever hear the story of the golden shark? Swears its true." The half elf grins, "And... aye, feisty his daughter is, but if you can get on her good side, well, she's good to know."

Variel sits relaxed in a chair while Adular is going through his paces with the group. Variel notices the ease in which he heals Flynn's fists. It would be good to have him aboard as none of the group besides Sandara dedicated them pselves to the healing and divine arts. Surely a couple dabbled here and there but did not have the focus this one did. Adular seemed likable enough and knew how to act accordingly. The fact that he had skill on a ship was also a good sign of things to come. He would be a good addition to the cr that was for sure. Between him and Sandara they could keep everyone healthy and in top form. How he interacted with the Besmaran lady was another matter though. Hopefully Sandara would understand the benefit to having both on the ship.

Does the position of Bosun appeal to you Adular? If so great because we can fit you right in without much of a to do about it. We havent appointed Ratline yet that i remember so it should be a clean insertion. Going with this unless you say otherwise.

Although the man was new and Variel had nothing to go off of but a hunch, Variel was willing to see how the man fared and the extent of his experience on the ship. Once the group had finished asking Adular about himself, Variel finally spoke up, You speak with an air of truth to your words about your experiences. I do not doubt you but must make sure of your abilities. It would not do to have someone claim proficiency in sailing and the workings of a ship without first testing them. So then, if you are agreeable to such a test I would ask that you answer some questions for us. If you answer to our satisfaction the may be an immediate position for you.

With that being said, Variel along with the group ask Adular questions regarding his exact experience and sailing in general. After a while it is apparent that this man is quite astute at answering the questions correctly. Beyond answering the questions, it appears that he is wise to what it takes to keep a ship running smoothly. At the end of the questions Variel nods to Adular, It seems that you may be just the type of person we are looking for and need. We have a position open that you would fill nicely should you want it. Our bosun left us recently and Dhaavan has been performing those duties along with his normal duties of First Mate. If you are so inclined we can tell the crew once we adjourn here.

Providing Adular accepts, Variel turns to Dhaavan, Would you be willing to announce to the crew that we have replaced Valeros with Master Adular and that Camm was just delivering him to us. I am sure the crew is wanting to know exactly what is going on. Thanks Dhaavan.

Brightening up, Dhaavan asks, "He tell you it was bigger than a Great White, with teeth like shortswords and eyes o' fire? I'd assumed he had some time ta embelish it. Yer not Black Jack's kid are ya? So the one about the cannibal princess true cause I really can't believe Bluuth actually offered ta let her..." Dhaavan pauses a moment glancing at the other officers.

"That old fella I met out first night in town, the one i tol' ya all about... Told ya he had some yarns." he offers to the other officers.

Quietly to Adular, Dhaavan notes "And she certianly is a good one to know," with a grin, taking a liking to the elf already.

If Adular likes the Job of Bosun:

With a nod to the Captain, Dhaavan steps out to the deck and gives a shout. "So Mates, Camm, the fellow on the Flying beastie jsut brough aboard our new officer. Name's Adular, 'nother Priest o' Besmara, an' he'll be takin' over for Valeros. So be followin his direction cause he'll be keeping the Lady runnin' in Ship-Shape, eh?" making a bad pun for the crew's benifit. "Things ain't gonna be changin or nothin, and new blood, Ye'll get the hand o' this ship in short order, alright! So take it ease cause we got another early day ahead o' us tomorrow aftore we get to the Shipping-lanes and Pay-day!"

"Ah, he told me the very same. At least he's consistent," The cleric chuckles in memory of the tale, "And I, Black Jack is my father, and I'm proud to say it, though it is a long shadow to stand in." He laughs at mention of the princess, "Perhaps later, I can tell you the real story of that one. "

"Most generous, Captain, and I imagine the crew wouldn't care for a new man coming on with airs without first hearing he'd been tested neither. I won't lie, there's many a sailor I'd mark as me better in one area or another, but I do know the trade, and like to think I know it well. So ask away you lot, I know my starboard from a hole in the ground." He seems to fancy the challenge.

When the questions come, he answers deftly, able to talk of ships and their needs with ease. He's fond of metaphor, now and then but its clear what he speaks of, "Me father is Jacobus "Black Jack" Bluuth, and in his time, he was quite the pirate. He loved me mind, but he would not stomach a son who was worthless on a ship. So the sailor's trade was one I was given little choice on. Now Besmara's service? That's another story for another time, but when i was a lad, I was a cabin boy on the Hungry Whale under Captain Dorth, an old mate of my father's, but he showed me no ease despite my sire. Later I' take up the mantle of true sailor, been among good crews and bad. And now, well, I can't think of any other life but the sea."

"Bossun?" another very human grin from the elf blooed man spreads, "Well, If the First mate don't mind, I'll be happy to take those tasks off his hands. I suppose I shall have to keep me hands off the rum and lasses while I work, which is a great sacrifice to me, but I shall manage." He doffs his hat, "And thank you for the offer, Captain. Horatio listens to all the tales and stories, and than he hears of the appointment to the officer cadre with quick decision.

He glances curiously over to Rain, wondering what she thought of the decision, but assumes she’ll let them know soon enough.

He looks back to the Half-elf in front of him, and he considers the fact that this lad seems well-traveled indeed.

”Well – congratulations on your new appointment,” he says with a pleasant voice.

”I’m glad to see you’re with us fully now,” he adds, raising his hand to tip his forelock to the priest in a quick salute.

”Though I couldn’t help wonder – seeing as you’ve got a bit of lore under your belt, assuming it ain’t too much bluster… You ever heard of a place called “Tidewater Rock”?” he says, comfortable talking to this lad about rumors certainly, and also not overly worried that he will cause issues as the lad was just formally made an officer.

”If you got any knowing on it, I’d sure like to know more,” he adds politely.

Slight ret-con before Dhaavan walks out to the crew...

Turning to the group Variel addresses them all, Something we will have to work out is sleeping arrangements. The reason I bring this up is two fold, first we have a new officer with us that will need proper lodging. Second, I desire a change which I have mentioned slightly to Dhaavan. I had asked him if he would be willing to join Jiro in one of the officer's quarters. Sorry Jiro I did not have time to ask you since this issue is being brought forward sooner than I expected by Adular's arrival. If you are ok with this Jiro I thank you for accommodating Dhaavan. Dhaavan would still be using part of my quarters to set up a small lab for him to work during the day as there is light and space here.
Flynn I assume you are still comfortable with being below decks with Piper. That will not change as I believe you are content and happier there.
Adular, I would have you share quarters with Sandara. I hope that this will work to give you both an area that you can turn to an area dedicated to Besmara. It would be a refuge for you to pray and worship should you find need to.
Again I hope this arrangement works for all involved.
Variel finishes with a slight smile.

nonsense, it must be me being wonderful. Mother told me I am more than once.
He mentally pokes at himself.

As he's congratulated, he nods, "Most kind."

Then the subject of Tidewater Rock comes up, he knits his thin brows trying to place where and when he might have heard of it, "Truth, if you're looking for lore, I know much of Besmara's ways, and a bit of the seas in other worlds....but many a salty sea dog could like wise do you one better than me in tales about the like. The name rings a bell, but bell ringing ain't what you're looking for I can tell."

Alas, CLerics aren't heavy on the skill points.

"Can I ask what it is about this Tidewater Rock that has you so keen to learn more o it?"

"If she doesn't mind, neither do I. I'm rather open about me faith, Captain, and might break into prayer anywhere, but I try not to push me faith on anyone if that worries ye. Still, a shrine on ship to the Pirate Queen is wise for any captain, if you don't mind me biasedly saying so." I wonder how pretty this Sandara is?

Seijiro sits quietly, considering the rather sudden appointment of this new arrival to the position of boatswain. Surely they needed one, as Dhaavan shouldn't be handling foreman type duties from minute to minute on the deck if he's going to have time for his crafting. Still this all seemed a little fast and furious. I guess if Variel and the others are all okay with it, who am I to argue? He will probably do fine. I just hope Ratline doesn't take offense, as he had to know we were considering him for the job.

To be fair, Adular was a seasoned sailor and a priest of Besmara with decent healing powers and manners, so Variel's announcement that he was appointing the half-elven male as boatswain did not take her entirely by surprise. It was a quick appointment to be sure (and one not any of them were expecting so soon), but since Valeros' departure, it was imperative to have the full number of officers onboard the Lady. Dhaavan had satisfied the duties of bosun well enough alongside his primary position of First Mate but it was unfair to continue to burden the sorceror with the increased duties. Rain would continue to watch Adular and determine if he is managing well enough as the days and weeks pass. She was sure some of the other officers would as well.

When the priest accepts the position in good spirit, Rain rewards him with a cordial smile. "We have some experienced riggers among our lot and I believe a group of sound sailors. If you do right by them, I believe they will do right by you, Adular. Still, keep a keen eye. Welcome to the officers' cadre." Rain felt a little clumsy not referencing Adular by priest in respect of his calling but the half-elf did say he did not care for such formality.

During the meeting, when sleeping arrangements were put forward by Variel, Rain sat quietly and listened, knowing full well where she would be sleeping.

At the appointments of new sleeping positions, Horatio’s eyes flick from Variel to Rain.

He looks at her for a moment, wondering at an earlier conversation they had and studies her face for a moment, thinking on what she had said to him earlier at one point.

Odd… I thought they weren’t sleeping together. Oh well, I never was one for picking up on social cues, I reckon…

He considers things a moment longer and his eyes roam back to Variel’s slight smile after this announcement.

Seeing the look on the elf’s face, he nods internally, now convinced that his earlier assumptions were correct.

”Aye indeed, Nighstorm. I do enjoy that spot below decks – seems fairly cozy,” he with a grin about him sleeping below.

Thinking again on the elf’s smile, he adds politely – ”And uh, if I may say also – congratulations to you both. I didn’t know things were going so tight with you and Rain, but I’ve had problems in the past reading people…”

He addresses Rain directly now – ”Rain, that was a good choice on your part to move in with Nighstorm – Aye, it’s true – he and I may have butted heads before, but I got no doubt he’ll do whatever it takes to take care of you and make you happy.”

”Anyhow, I reckon your granddad’ll be right happy with a lad like Variel in the family!” he adds with a wide smile, and lifts his glass to the happy couple.

”Aye – well, as you asked…”

”We got the knowing that this place is some sort of old basecamp or fort on this island. Tough to get at as the fort is on hard terrain and covers the port pretty good... so they say.”

”It’s supposed to be a good place in general, but the thing is…. Well, a while back we found this old island with some undead whores on it, as well as a bunch of these filthy little undersea buggers who done pinched our mates.”

”We go on the island to fetch our mates back and we see the place had a village on it one time; but it was pretty much sacked. We also saw a nice little place for a watchtower on the top of the cliff; but it was burnt out, too.”

”Point is – that would have been a real nice to set up shop – quiet, and out of the way little joint, you know – to careen our ships or to get fresh supplies. We could set up a good forge and warehouse for storage… you know, that kind of talk.”

”But the island was pretty open and exposed, easy to hit… So then the talk turned to maybe taking this Rock place – we sail in there, cut some throats, take the wealth and make that our own island to do all that I done just said.”

”The thing is, it’s all rumor right now, excepting a vague general location on where it is. The more news on it, the better, I say.”

”If we get more news, we can do more with it and sail in to that place, kill them that’s there, and make it our little spot.”

He grins, and a strange light flicks over his eyes for an instant.

”Anyhow, to do the job, I reckon the more details we get the better. That’s kind of why I asked. If you don't know, that's all good. But I guess that as you're one of us now, maybe you’ll lend a hand in the strategizing?”

You would sense that Horatio is trying to be genuinely nice. He also assumed that as you are formally sleeping with Variel now, that you likely have formal intentions with him, as he doesn't assume that you are the kind of girl who simply sleeps around. He also assumes formal intentions would mean that you will likely merge your families, and therefore - with your family formally merged to Variel - certainly that news is something your extended family (and at least the patron of your extended family) would be interested in.

Whether Horatio is correct or not - knowing what he does of Noble Houses merging and High Elves from his studies - these are his conclusions at this time.

Seijiro never responded about Dhaavan moving into the officer's quarters because somehow I missed the implications of that post... please consider a bit of retcon that he simply smiled and shrugged and said 'the more the merrier.'

Seijiro looks shocked at Flynn, then scowls and looks away. He wasn't going to let the gunner create more drama by responding to his crude implications. Whether Variel and Rain were together or not was none of Flynn's business, nor anyone else's including the other officers. For him to bring it up openly and state it as if it was a fait accompli was just... well... beyond rude... How could anyone who claimed to be civilized and cordial say such a thing in public, especially in front of a stranger?

He avoids looking at Rain and Variel, knowing for some time that there was more between them than simple friendship, but not pushing to know more. He was afraid by looking at them now, their true relationship might be revealed on their faces. It was one thing for Flynn to announce it like a fishwife gossiping in the marketplace. It was another thing entirely to see it written in their own expressions. He kept his eyes on Tomo while he fed him another chilled fig.
