The remainder of the company enters the guest room at Kaal Manor. This luxurious room has finely woven curtains on the widows to the north. There is a clean large four poster bed with a beuatifully embroidered cover on it. Against the eastern wall is a bookcase with an assortment of books. There is a chest against the western wall.

Guest Room

Mantooth and Thordak, I am still looking for the answer to what cell do you put Verasa Kaal in.

Thordak:
They all seem the same to you. The bars are quite strong and the rock is very hard. You hope she likes her bed made out of hay.

Bofus:
The chest does not have any traps on it. Upon opening it, you find a few sets of fine clothing.

Bofus stops to peer out at the silhouette, brow furrowed. Huh. That's not where the Red Hand army is coming from, I wonder what that is? Not *more* trouble, I hope...

Bofus holds out one piece of clothing. I guess our monk was prepped for being well-dressed. I think we're done here...

This meeting is coming up next. Is there anything else you wish to do before this encounter? Please discuss plans as you need to and I will advance you to midnight when you give me the word.

You return to Brindol Keep where you all meet up with each other in the great hall.

We need to make sure the Kaal is well-guarded. I'm guessing the monk is going to try to break her out. She's very skilled, so it's going to require some serious guards to keep her out.

They only way I could imagine it is if she still has loyal guards to her in the prison that assist her in some way. What do you suggest we do, Bofus? As Magistrate, I will do anything in my power."

Captain of the Lion Guard of Brindol

Captain Ulverth limps over as he hears Mantooth ask his question to Bofus.

"If you want my opinion, Magistrate, which you don't always need to listen to anyway, you will take up your post at Brindol Prison and make the office there your own. You may be able to start looking at those cases and if any monk or some such being comes to try and rescue her, then you will be there ready to catch them. If the horde arrives, we will be sure to let you know."

Bofus grins at the big paladin. Why, thanks for the flattering request of my advice, my old friend! I must agree with the good Captain here--I think you should go familiarize yourself with the prison, impose your will through you simple presence, that sort of thing. tirion's neat Message spell can keep us all communicating even when we're spread out, so if you need any support--apart from the most able Guard, of course--someone can be there shortly.

Bofus takes another glance out the window. Hmmm...if we were closer to the river, I'd like to give that a checking-out. it's a ship, got a bit of a dragon motif going, so it could be the bad guys--but it's coming from the wrong direction. Captain, can we make sure that some of the guard keeps an eye on that ship there?

DMHW:
Kris msged me indicating that he was throwing a bit of an intro bone here, so I picked it up--hope you don't mind. I don't know how you were planning on introducing Kris/Molly, but if you want to do it sooner rather than later, then maybe the ship could be closer than I think, giving me reason to go check it out...:-)

If you do not follow, please let me know. But if you are not afraid of hobgoblins and you follow the good sergeant, then read the following.

Several moments later, you follow Teyani Sura back to the northern side of Brindol to the dock district where a large ship remains moored against the pier and floods of goblins and giants are sailing across the river, landing on the northern shore. You notice the name Drake's Revenge written across the stern of the tall ship.

Round 1
A confident and excited looking man dashes to the railing of the ship waving the dragonskull banner. He mans a long musket mounted to the railing. He shouts "Finally! It's been so long since we've had a challenge Shar'ka!"

He aims the Double Hackbut at the giant to the furthest north.

"Hope you can swim you monster!" and with that a shot rips through the air (CRAAAAACK!) and a puff of acrid smoke wafts into the air.

Stepping out from beside her guard station by the central mast of the Drake's Revenge. "Giants," she mutters. In one fluid motion she reaches to the quiver on her back stuffed with different-looking arrows, nocks one with thick black fletchings, and releases, aiming for the closest giant to the open sea.

Adaptive Seeking Composite Longbow shot with giant bane arrow: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 191d8 + 6 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 6 + (1, 1) = 14

Adaptive Seeking Composite Longbow with regular arrow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 251d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Already nocking another arrow, she glances down to her side. "Barnacle, guard the ship."

The snapping turtle, whose head comes up to Shar'ka's waist, makes an acknowledging bite at the air. He slips off the edge of the ship (right in front of Shar'ka) and paddles his big webbed feet. He readies his jaws to bite if anything comes within his 10ft. reach.

DMHW:
Barnacle is large sized; make sure he takes up 2x2 squares! I am fine with having him go on my initiative, if that's the easiest for you. Thanks!

ROUND 1, REVISITED

Thinking fast, Bofus goes to his gnome friend. Tirion!! CAn you make me fly?? I think my best use is to stop as many of those ships from moving, or steering, as I can! I'll mess up their rudders and stuff...

Bofus winks at Tirion. Have I *ever* let you down?? and takes off, using shadows for cover, to get to the roof of the northern building (AI 1) On the way, he draws his bow and an acid arrow, and tries to get a bead on the giant getting fired upon by the strange new captain.

SECOND ROUND

Barnacle (who should be in the water right near the ship from last turn, AB5/6 & AC5/6) double moves to swim 40 feet, making a beeline to the giant that his companion shot point sticks at (ending in AB0/1 & AC0/1). He viciously snaps his jaws at the creature, planning to reach out and attack when he next gets the chance.

Shar'ka snarls as her first arrow misses. She takes a step closer to the edge of the boat (AC7) and raises her bow. She releases another arrow at the same giant as before, the one sitting in the back of the boat.

First attack, Longbow: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 161d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Wordlessly (unlike her cohort Captain Simon) she nocks another arrow and lets it fly at the same giant.

Second attack, Longbow: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 261d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Her sharp eyes spy Barnacle across the water as he menaces the same giant she has been shooting. She knows that now he is in the water he can do some damage. She sees Captain Simon ready to shoot another blast from their shipside double hackbut and smiles as she mutters, "That giant is done for."

2) Are there other boats with more giants cxrossing the river that aren't on the battlemat?

Dungeon Master

Bofus, 1) Yes, the giant is tall enough that you can still see it. 2) Yes, there are other boats crossing. Some have not reached the shore yet and some are a good distance away. It is evening, so vision is not perfect for you. The battlemat is the most immediate threat.

Barnacle viciously snaps his jaws at the creature who comes within his reach, who is getting too close to his cohort. Following her commands to guard, the snapping turtle bites the hill giant in front of him (as his readied action from ROUND 1 goes off).

Bite: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 262d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 6) + 6 = 16

Barnacle sinks his jaws deeper into the flesh of his prey and attempts to grab him as a free attack.

Grab: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25

He holds fast to the giant's massive treetrunk-like leg and begins to chomp his jaws again.

Bite: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 272d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12

DMHarp:
The giant's AC takes a penalty of -4 to Dex and -2 to attacks and combat maneuvers, as he is in the GRAPPLED condition.

Shar'ka snarls as her first arrow misses. She takes a step closer to the edge of the boat (AC7) and raises her bow again. She nods sharply as Barnacle bites, grabs, and bites the hill giant coming towards the ship and fires at that giant that the snapping turtle is grappling.

First attack, Adaptive Seeking Composite Longbow: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 241d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Wordlessly (unlike her cohort Captain Simon) she nocks another arrow and lets it fly at the same giant.

Second attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 211d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

"Good job, Barnacle," she shouts. She sees Captain Simon ready to shoot another blast from their shipside double hackbut and smiles as she mutters to him, "That giant is done for."

Dungeon Master

Round 1

• Rebel Red moves to AN5 and inspires courage upon his companions.
• Poppy fires her crossbow at the giant, but it appears to have little effect against its thick hide armor.

Round 2

• Barnacle snaps at the Giant as it comes close, slamming its jaws down on the massive creature and then clings on as it bites even harder.
• Shar’ka Fire Eye fires off two arrows in quick succession, one pierces the giant's arm and the other simply bounces off.
• Simon Drake takes aim at the approaching giant and fires his last shot from the hackbut to deliver a deep gash into the giant's chest. Although badly damaged, the beast fights on. Captain Drake then moves onto the railing of the ship and deftly leaps through the curtain of gunsmoke to land at AB4. He then challenges the giant.
• Thordak swiftly loads his crossbow and repeatedly fires at the other giant (AM-1). However, only one of his three bolts actually hits the creature.
• Tirion casts Black Tentacles centered at AL-5/AM-4. Black tentacles spring out of the ground and grapple the hobgoblins and the giant.
• Bofus sneaks out from the rooftop and fires two acid arrows at the giant to deliver two deadly blows to the giant. The great creature howls in pain.
• Hobgoblins hack at the black tentacles to free themselves. One who escapes notice manages to charge in and attack Tirion, drawing blood from the dark gnome.

Bofus, please not that the hobgoblin bladebearer that appears adjacent to you is actually about 10 feet below you on the ground. He does not notice you at the moment.

Tirion whispers to the rest of the group:

Bofus, get back here so that I can speed you up. We need everything we can get. Thordak, hold your fire until I cast and then take out this annoyance near me.

Tirion then moves back 5' and casts Haste.

If Bofus is within 30' of Red, I will catch:

Tirion, Red, Poppy, the Lion sergeant (AS5), the Lion (AO3), Thordak and Bofus. If Bofus does not move into range, then all but Bofus.

DMHW, did you register both hits (or did one miss)? I'm guessing the crit threat didn't confirm...but I did forget to add the +2 for bard song, so that confirm roll is a 19 (and extra crit damage was 19). Would have been 4 more damage over the 2 hits (assuming both hit, and no crit)

ROUND 3

*whisper* gocha! Potshot first...

Bofus shoots straight down, at the bladebearer at AH 1, then gives a big smile and jaunty wave when the blighter looks up. He then races south, parking directly above the Brindol Lion at AO 3 (which is just at the edge of the range of Haste)

Attack: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 14 + 2 = 28
Sneak Attack: 1d6 + 1 + 2 + 4d6 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 2 + (6, 6, 3, 5) = 29 <--wow, nice damage rolls!!

OK, I think I can stop some of those boats, or at least slow them down. Gimme a holler if you need me back right away!!
