Tirion sighs:
Tell you what. Open the door and step away, and you will not spend the rest of the night in one of the cells down the other hall. Remember, there are many of us and one of you and we are acting under the direct orders of Lord Jarmaath. I know that you know Captain Lars Ulverth and I assume you recognize Magistrate Mantooth as one of the Champions of Elsir Vale. You are welcome to question us, but with the Horde of the Red Hand but a short distance from the walls, we do not have the time to discuss this now, so, as I said, you will spend a pleasant night in a cold cell until the Magistrate has time to determine how to deal with your insubordination.

The guards size up all of you and their confidence begins to wane. "If you want in so badly, I will leave you to it!" The guard steps aside.

The guards begin quickly walking back down the hallway.

Brindol Prison

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Tirion calls back:
Thordak, can you bring him back here. Nobody leaves until we have found the former magistrate.

DMHW, I do not think that we would be allowing any guards who can spread information about what has happened out of the prison. I would make sure that Thordak and the Captain were watching any escape routes.

Whisper: I do not want to give anyone a chance to alert the Kaal dragon queen. We know she is corrupt and have been authorized to arrest her and her spawn. We are taking anyone siding with the Kaal's prisoner now. Then we will move on to the Kaal Mansion.

Captain of the Lion Guard of Brindol

Lars Ulverth moves along the hallway and commands the two guards, "Hold it right there, boys! Nobody is leaving until we have settled this whole affair. Now just wait and lets see what we have inside this office."

Meanwhile, as Ulverth holds up the two guards in the hallway to the south, the guard, who was under the effects of Tirion's charm spell, takes the keys from one of the guards and happily unlocks the door. "I think this will unlock the door."

As the doors are swung open, the sight you are all greeted by is Jared Kaal and a beautiful female on the floor of his office, both caught in the act and with very little clothing being worn!

Brindol Prison

Former Magistrate of Brindol now deceased.

"What the Hell is going on?! I make it absolutely clear that I was not to be interrupted!"

"Shut up, Tiffy! These are not my guards! I don't know what is going on, but somebody better start making it clear right this instant!"

Although he has very little in the way of armor, or clothing for that matter, Jared Kaal stands up and reaches for his longsword in his scabbard, drawing it threateningly.

"Somebody want to explain what you are all doing here?!"

The former magistrate puts down his sword and begins to get dressed.

"Jib, jib, is this true, were you being naughty?"

Former Magistrate of Brindol now deceased.

Seeing that the guards aren't trying to defend Jared now that proper authority is being recognized, Bofus steps out of the shadows. Oh, you'll be able to talk to Mommy Dearest soon enough, but I doubt she's going to be getting you out of anything.

He turns to Mantooth and Ulverth. Captain, Magistrate. With your leave, I'll head toward the Kaal mansion ahead of you, to make sure the coast is clear for you to perform the rest of your duties...

He gives a big grin and jaunty salute to Jared before leaving.

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Tirion looks to the Captain:
Would you have a few trusted members of the Lions who could temporarily guard the former Magistrate while we complete our investigation?

Tirion also casts Detect Magic and scans the Jared's room for anything of value - sword, armor, etc.

Tirion then turns to Mantooth.
I think that we should also detain the young lady for questioning. You know how dangerous these streets are with most of the populace gone. We would not want any of the city's shadows to cause her harm before the sun rises.

Finally, Tirion turns back to Jared:
Brindol is a lawful city. When the dragon horde has been soundly defeated, you shall be given a proper trial. Your punishment, if any, shall be determined by the justice and any requisite jury under the good laws of this land. Tirion pauses for a moment to let this sink in. As the former Magistrate, I am sure you understand the importance of laws and that we comply with them, both in the enforcement, and when necessary the handing out of punishment.

Tirion turns to Bofus as he prepares to leave the room after searching for anything of importance, and says in a quiet voice loud enough to be overheard:
Good thing this town still has drawing and quartering for treason. I just hope he does not know that Lord Jarmaath is generally lenient on those who provide information that results in the capture of higher ranking criminals.

But, if you're thinking Jared here will sing about his mother, forget it. There's no way he'll turn on her, even to save his own hide. I'm sure he'd rather a horrible, messy death than saving himself by turning on her...

He shrugs, and scampers out of the jail to head directly toward Kaal Mansion. He's specifically keeping an eye out for any messenger-types heading from the prison to the mansion...

"Naturally, I consider all of the Lions trustworthy, but there is not as strong a cell to keep him as there is here at Brindol Prison. When I get back to the barracks I can send a few guards over here to be sure that he remains locked up here. In the meantime, we should place him in the prison and see that the guards understand who they need to pay allegiance to."

@Bofus

You depart Brindol prison through the entrance you entered. You begin making your way through the deserted streets and around the corner to Kaal Manor. At the moment everything seems very quiet. There are few people about at this time of night, and those who are, appear to be soldiers (either Lion or Guard) on their way to or from duty. Nobody appears to be a messenger.

You arrive at the outside wall of Kaal Manor. There is a wall enclosing the estate and the front gate appears closed and locked.

Red and Poppy do little to hide their disappointment at the tardiness of the local laws and customs when dealing with a traitor "Things happen quicker in Galt to such men".

Their eyes turn instead to the mistress.

Red:
Sorry for the delay of the detect evil. I must have missed that.

When Kaal was naked, you were able to detect an aura of evil from him. However, when he got dressed you were no longer able to sense the aura. There is no presenece of evil around the girl.

As for magic, Jared's longsword and shield radiates a low magic as well as an amulet he places around his neck. His suit of plate mail on a rack in the office also radiates magic.

Captain of the Lion Guard of Brindol

Lars Ulverth addresses the remaining guards. "We are going to put Jared Kaal in one of the cells here in the prison. I command you to guard him with your life. He is treacherous and his family has many resources. He is not to have contact with any of them. Likewise, if any of you should get the idea that you prefer to remain loyal to the Kaal family, then you yourselves with be charged with treason. If I find that anyone of you have broken the trust bestowed upon you by the Lord and the City of Brindol, then I will personally advocate to Magistrate Longbrow that you be put to death in the name of justice! Am I perfectly clear in this matter?"

The guards look upon the Captain with sour expressions on their face, but they nod their heads in agreement.

The quietest of the three guards speaks out. "I gave my allegiance to Brindol and I will not go back on that word now. You can trust me in this matter, Captain Ulverth."

Captain of the Lion Guard of Brindol

"Good, good! I am pleased to hear it! Now, could you and Thordak, Son of Throtgar go and place Jared Kaal in a nice cozy cell. Make sure that all of his keys are left with Magistrate Longbrow."

Turning to Thordak, he adds, "Will you escort, Jib Jib and make sure he gets himself settled in? Meanwhile, let's see what we are to do with this young lady. What is your name, lass?"

Lars Ulverth wrote:
"What is your name, lass?"

"Teehee. I know the answer to that one. I am Tiffiana, your majesty."

Captain of the Lion Guard of Brindol

Lars Ulverth looks to the others trying to decide if she is mocking him, or is simply ignorant. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, he corrects her. "Well, Tiffiana, I am Captain Lars Ulverth of the Brindol Lions, and you may address me as Captain. My friends and I just have a few questions for you. Where are you from? Where is your family? How long have you had a relationship with Jared Kaal?"

Lars Ulverth wrote:
"Where are you from? Where is your family? How long have you had a relationship with Jared Kaal?"

"Should I answer now?" The young girl is clearly overwhelmed with the pressure but begins to reply, "I live over on Waterfront street near the docks. That's where I live when I'm not somewhere else. I knew that everybody was running away from the city, but Jib, Jib, I mean, Magistrate Kaal promised that he would take care of me and he paid me in gold to stay for him. I've been with him for about three weeks now. I am in trouble, Captain?"

Captain of the Lion Guard of Brindol

"No, you are not in any trouble from us, yet, but you have put yourself in a dangerous position. There is a horde of hobgoblins, dragons, and giants coming here to invade, and your decision to stay here, has put you at great risk! There was a good reason that Lord Jarmaath decreed that you were to leave." Turning to his companions, Ulverth asks discretely, "What do you all suppose we should do with this one?"

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Tirion looks at Jared:
Take his amulet, I do not know what it does, but it is clearly magical. I do not yet know if it will allow him to communicate with his mother, but we do not want to risk that.

Looking at the wench: For now put her in another cell. She may not like it, but it is probably safer as the stone here will protect her from dragon attacks and we assume that the horde will likely make an attack from across the water where there are lower, or no, walls.

Spellcraft(amulet): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
Spellcraft(armor): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
Spellcraft(sword): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19

If I cannot identify anything, I shall ask Red to help.

"Oh dear! I don't want this to hurt my reputation. I really didn't think that I was getting into any trouble. But, if I do have to go, can I please stay in the same cell with Lockstar? He is sooooo amazing! I've heard him sing and he really has an amaaaaazing voice! It really is to die for! If I was to be locked up with anyone, he is the one I would really want to be with!! Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Tirion growls: I don't care if it is your great great grandmother's most treasured possession. It is an amulet designed solely to keep others from knowing whether you don't follow the laws of the land on a regular basis. I am sure that once you remove it, the good paladin will confirm that you are of a good heart and this was all just a big misunderstanding.

After saying this, Tirion turns to Bofus and smirks, also giving Mantooth a nod before returning his cold gaze to the ex-magistrate. I do not know how you ran this prison. . . . Wait, actually I do remember. . . . And unless I am mistaken, prisoners are not allow to keep magical possessions, whether or not they are supposedly family crests or heirlooms.

I probably should have made sure you had possession of the amulet before I told you all about it, but let's just roll with it for role playing purposes.

Jared Reaches up and grabs Red's Hand as he reaches for his amulet. As he stares at the bard in the face he threatens, "Let go, Bard! You had great potential in working for us, but I see you have shown your true colors. You will regret the day that you ever crossed paths with the Kaal family!"

Perhaps the regret is now yours?".

Tirion simply rolls his eyes at Jared's preening.
Well, either we are all dead when the horde attacks, or we will enjoy a good treason trial. So, you are right, someone will suffer. However, since we have already destroyed several Wyrmlords, including at least one that even your spies in the city do not know is dead, I rather doubt that the horde will be the one winning, and I think that you and your dragon loving mother will be the ones suffering.

Tirion turns to go:
Enjoy your night in a cold cell traitor.
