"Tats what I do. I'd be happy to do some scouting.... Shel creeps ahead and scours the path, looking for anything interesting at all.

Sigrun Wolfrunner
|
Sigrun pauses, noticing something below the attic floorboards. "Huh. There's a book or something down there," she says with a frown. "Maybe Anumet dropped it?" She has a look around, seeing if there's some way to get to the book.
Is there some way to climb down and get it?
Kargen Hapspring
|
"Yeah, let's go get it." He pulls a rope out of his pack and looks around at the group. "Shel, I'm guessing you're the most nimble. Lightest too, probably. Care to go grab it?" He offers her the free end of the rope.
Sigrun Wolfrunner
|
"Looks about twenty feet down. I agree on sending the halfling down though..." Sigrun sizes Oswin up for a moment, one eyebrow arched appraisingly. "Not sure if you're strong enough to lift me down there safely, y'know?"
Kobad Miro
|
Man I missed a lot today! Kobad and Waldo make a point to march with as many people around them as possible.
Kobad begins to mention the ledger when he is interrupted by Sigrun. He sighs, and when they offer to send the she-halfling down, seems relieved all of a sudden. He also wonders if the book is magical. Detect Magic
Oswin Durnhelm
|
Oswin's faces flushes a little at Sigrun's comment.
"Sigrun, I...well...Right! I must have been in too much of a hurry to think clearly! I am a bit stronger than I look, but you and Kargen have shown greater wisdom than I have. My apologies. Kargen, Shel, please by all means proceed."
Oswin steps out of the way. While it's obvious that he is embarrased, it seems like there may be more to his discomfort than he is letting on.
Shel Whispertongue PFS
|
"Lets do it. This should be fun! But if I yell, please pull me up quickly," Shel smiles, and she grabs the end of the rope and ties it securely around her tiny waist.
Sigrun Wolfrunner
|
Sigrun cocks her head in confusion, almost in the way a canine would; she seems quite puzzled as to Oswin's reaction. "No offence, y'know? I'm sure you're plenty strong. But I'm not exactly a lightweight..." The ulfen warrior shrugs.
Ugh. Don't tell me the men down here are as sensitive to their pride as they are in the north. When she thinks Oswin isn't looking, Sigrun rolls her eyes and grabs the other end of the rope to help lower Shel down with.
| DM_Goat |
The book radiates no magic to Kobad's eye. Lowered down like a worm on a hook, Shel reaches the book and snags it before being hauled back up.
The book turns out to be an old record book. A quick skim of it shows it refers to Blackros family dealings in Osirion, including notes by family members in reference to some Pathfinder interests. A more thorough examination will require a few minutes.
Kobad Miro
|
If allowed to take it, Kobad would like to examine it more closely.
Bom Skjold
|
Bom takes note of the book, "Hmmm, that may be of interest to me. Kobad, may I look at that book when you are done?"
Kargen Hapspring
|
Leaving the others to examine the book, Kargen moves up to the open secret door. He examines the construction and tries to determine what might trigger the door to open.
Perception, take 10: 10 + 7 = 17
Shel Whispertongue PFS
|
Shel is always up for checking the door.
Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 plus one more if a trap.
Oswin Durnhelm
|
Oswin carefully steps up behind Kargen and Shel.
"Just a moment, if I may." He places a hand on each of their shoulders and says: "May the light of the Inheritor guide your path." His hands glow faintly for a moment.
It's a bit late for this check, Shel, but you can ue it anytime in the next hour
Bom Skjold
|
Bom wait for Shel to give the signal the cost is clear.
Kargen, it defeats the purpose of having a rogue scout if everyone crowds around her no?
Sigrun Wolfrunner
|
Sigrun, somewhat disappointed that the ledger book is nothing of any particular use (god knows why Bom and Kobad are so fascinated by it), lingers back with Bom while she waits for the all-clear from Shel.
Bom Skjold
|
Bom had a keen eye for humans and their ethnicity. Noticing Sigrun...
Kobad Miro
|
Kobad, realizing the ledger is not of particular interest to him, gives Bom the book. He will then follow in the sort of middle of the group into the secret room, so as to be safe. Him and Waldo are squishy, and they know it.

As Oswin steps up behind those checking the door, there is an omnious cracking beneath them and with a groan the walkway collapses!
Shel 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Kargen 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Kargen manages to grab onto the edge of the doorway, but Shel and Oswin go crashing down to the floor below, landing prone among the rotten boards and timbers of the now-collapsed walkway.

"While I appreciate the support, in the future, things would probably be simpler if I were given some space to check for traps," the halfling groans, trying not to show her annoyance with the others. She gets up and walks with a slight limp, having popped something in her knee during the fall.
Kobad Miro
|
Kobad nearly faints with relief that he didn't take such a fall. [b]"Phew! That was a close one! Are you alright down there?"[b] Beside him, Waldo's eyes roll to the back of his head as he spins on one foot and faints dramatically.
Oswin Durnhelm
|
"Shel, how do you feel?"
"Hi up there Kobad! See where my boasting got us! Now I'm the one in need of a lift up, and Shel too. I'll take a quick look around while we're waiting."
Oswin gathers himself and casts light on his shield, if it's dark. He looks around the room for signs of...anything.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Kargen Hapspring
|
Kargen scrambles to climb back up, and warily sits on the floor, looking down at the other two. "Well, I suppose you were right. Shel, you can have all the room you want in the future."
He takes his rope out and lowers it down, hoping the weight of their climbing doesn't pull down more of the floor.
Sigrun Wolfrunner
|
Sigrun jumps a little at Bom's comment; for an instant she seems almost scared that he would address her in their shared language. Still, with a light shake of her head the trepidation is gone, and she manages a weak smile, looking down at her faithful companion.
Before she can speak much further, there's a sudden crack in the floorboards, and Sigrun jolts up in surprise, her hands immediately going for her greataxe. She looks up just in time to see Shel and Oswin disappear to the floor below, and winces, hearing them land with a painful thud.
"Gods, are you all right down there?" she calls out, creeping around the outside of the hole in the floorboards and giving it a wide berth. She'll try and help Kargen up from the hole, bracing herself with one hand on the wall while reaching out with the other.
Not sure what to roll for this...
Strength Check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Oops. Kargen posted while I was writing. :) I'll use that roll to help pull people up from down below then I guess.
Bom Skjold
|
The sight of the three adventurers in the hole nearly prompted Bom to say something admonishing...nearly. Oswin and Kargen had learned the hard way why you let the scout scout and there was no need for Bom to say anything about it. Instead, Bom focused on the positives.
"Many thanks to you three who saved the rest of us from the same fate."
Bom's appreciation was sincere, but he gave them a knowing wink and smile as he extended hand to each of them as they climbed out.

"Im feeling just peachy," Shel pipes up from the depths from which she fell. "Same thing happened to me in this strange Citadel a few months ago. I feel a bit better after your healing, Oswin, think you for that."
HP 13/17
Shel reaches into her bag, "You mind using this wand in me, Oswin? It should get me up to full strength in no time.".
Assuming he agrees, ..
CLW 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
48 charges left. Shel is now at full HP...
Oswin Durnhelm
|
"Of course, not a problem Shel. Why don't you go up first?" Oswin says, motioning towards Kargen's rope. "I'm a bit heavy in this armor and all. The Acts of Iomedae speak of hammer-and-tongs battles with evil, not so much with creeping in old buildings. It's a part of adventuring I'm still getting used to."
Shel Whispertongue PFS
|
Shel grabs the rope and allows her tiny frame to be pulled up by the others. "Lets get Oswin up here, and get back at it," she grunts, miffed mostly at herself for not noticing the rotten boards that had given way with the group.
| DM_Goat |
Finding a way to shimmy along the supporting timbers that remain in place in front of the secret door, the party enters the room.
Strange, organic-looking patterns wind across the walls and ceiling of this chamber, and the stone walls look as though they had grown winding tendrils that enshroud the area. At the chamber’s center stands a massive, rust-covered device of gears and arms about fifteen feet across. The end of each arm supports a different colored sphere. Strange projections and barbed arrows point through each of the globes, their directions seemingly random. Opposite from the chamber’s entrance, a naked and clearly dead body is impaled by a rust-red arrow. The corpse faces a gray, wooden door, which stands ajar.

@GM I thought our stated plan was to let Shel scout out the room first, rather than all of us go in at once?
| DM_Goat |
I'm sorry, my mistake. If that is the case, she is the only one who sees it.
And I fixed the map sharing. Told you I'd mess that up. ;)
Shel, alone in the room...

I'm not sure if I can still act in the surprise round. I'll be moving as much as I can to follow after Shel if I can still act now. Also, what kind of check would it be to get across the hole in the floor and into the room?
