Note to Braelex and Vuloo ... now that Braelex has moved in front of Aidon, Vuloo can't 5 foot anywhere to avoid and AoO from the rat or Terisha. Depending on Vuloo's movement, Terisha will likely step to threaten Braelex, just east of her. You guys wanna modify your actions based on those things?

Fulmen wrote:
I was backing up Relan. I should be right behind him preventing the flanking attack since there doesn't appear to be a way to flank Ayala.

I'll move you to be behind Relan, but the rat would still come up to Relan's SW and then Ayala would 5 foot to the north for the flank.

I did not know that, thanks for clarifying.

Aidon pauses and frowns at the wererat "Hmm, I really thought that was going to work..."

Aidon shrugs and glaces over at Terisha, "Well someone is going to have a bad day now instead."

I think, if my math is correct, I can drop my Glitterdust in the doorway behind Terisha and the wererat and be able to hit both of them but not Relan, am I correct in this? 10' radius

Still looking for an answer, not sure if this is something you will answer or if I need to just guess. Mainly asking how AoE works with the larger squares

Its good, sorry. Will press with it in the next post

Male Aasimar Master Summoner / 6

DC should be a 16 I think

BTW, there are templates for spell areas either on the PRD or SRD.

Male Aasimar Master Summoner / 6

Well it was more the giant squares that were messing with me, because they way I thought most spells work is if it affects your square, you get hit

The big squares are just 4 5x5 squares. Imagine they are still there because they still count. I can add the grid in if you want, it just clutters the map.

Male Aasimar Master Summoner / 6

nope totally don't need the grid, I just wasn't sure if the rule still applied that if it hits your square it hits you with the larger square, that's it.

We don't talk to Rats! Round 2

Init: Braelex, Terisha, Vuloo, Relan, Fulmen, Rats, Ayala, Andel, Aidon

Braelex takes a shot at Terisha but the wobbly bolt breaks on the woman's bronzed chain pauldron. Terisha, in turn, steps forward engaging both Braelex and Vuloo, using the rat to flank Vuloo she thrusts out with her sword gouging the halfling healer badly, who subsequently goes on the defensive.

On the other side of the room, Relan lashes out at Ayala who nimbly avoids the silver blade. Behind him Fulmen tries to take out the rat, who snaps back at him, catching him with another sharp edge of her scarf.

Andel starts his recitation of wererat weaknesses giving everyone an advantage. (+1 hit/damage/save/AC)

The Dice:

Terisha vs Vuloo: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 2 = 20; HIT!; Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 1 + (5, 5) = 12
Rat vs Fulmen: 1d20 ⇒ 1; miss
Rat vs Vuloo: 1d20 ⇒ 19; miss
Ayala vs Relan: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 2 = 20; HIT!; Damage: 1d6 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + (1) + 2 = 7
Ayala save: 1d20 ⇒ 10; bonuses unknown; likely fail.
Terisha save: 1d20 ⇒ 6; bonuses unknown; FAIL!

(Will have to check the bonuses when I get home)

Must've deleted some things... change the above to:

"On the other side of the room, Relan lashes out at Ayala who nimbly avoids the silver blade. Behind him Fulmen tries to take out the rat, who snaps back at him, missing. Ayala continuing to capitalize on the distraction from the rat, lashes out at Relan catching him with another sharp edge of her scarf."

And add the following at the end:

"Aidon casts a spell and glowing motes of bright sparkling light explode out, covering Ayala and Terisha."

Map is actually in the album, just can't build a link to it ... you should be able to pull up the previous map and tab over to the current one

Female Azlanti Pureblood Alchemist (Trap Breaker) 10

Braelex steps nimbly between Terisha and Vuloo, while holding her crossbow and giving Terisha a wicked smile.

Relan is healed by 5 hp through the lifelink.

Vuloo takes a 5' step to the NE, behind Braelex, and then casts CLW on himself.

Can the eagle switch targets on it's own to attack the rat? Is it smart enough to know that it can't hurt the were rats?

Just walk me through what you think the eagle would do. As long as it makes sense, I'm OK with it based on its intelligence and ecology.

Don't want to start controlling summons actions myself.

Fulmen will take a 5ft step to the SW and attack the donkey rat.

Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Male Aasimar Master Summoner / 6

Ok fair enough, I would say at the moment the eagle would keep attacking the were rat as they are not above animal int. Not going to roll though as it won't do enough to get past the DR

I can not seem to get the map to pull up on this laptop, not sure why but I am working on it. Is there anyone in 5' of me that may attack if I shoot my xbow?

Relan?

Aidon can shoot.

We don't talk with rats Round 4

Init: Braelex, Terisha, Vuloo, Relan, Fulmen, Rats, Ayala, Andel, Aidon

Braelex smiles as she steps to the left and lines up a shot at the now blind blonde thief. The tiefling plunks a bolt deep into the rogue's chest from about three feet away. The woman collapses instantly. The rat at her heels nips at the alchemist's calf. Vuloo takes the quick respite to heal himself.

On the other side of the room, Relan has equal success with Ayala who is flailing about aimlessly and gouges her with his dagger deeply. Her random swings with her scarf still catch him, but the lack of precision reduces the damage.

Relan: don't forget about extra +1 hit/dam against wererats from Andel's recitation of weaknesses

Fulmen and the rat fight each other, and the rat gets a bite through, but Fulen is unable to strike the nimble beast.

Aidon's target gone, he fires at something else, but the shot is so wide, no one really knows what he's aiming at.

Map hasn't changed much, let me know if you want something new

Relan is healed 5 hp from the lifelink.

Vuloo drops the crossbow and draws a scroll.

He casts Hold Person at Ayala.

Braelex nods as Terisha falls, then turns to take on the rat.

Crossbow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13; Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

5 ft step to avoid AoO.

Male Human Fighter - level 2

If Vuloo gets the HOLD off, does that mean one shot kills her or breaks the hold?

Neither, it makes her "helpess" and you can take a full round action, "coup De grace" to auto score a critical hit.

Male Aasimar Master Summoner / 6

I will shoot at a donkey rat

To Hit - 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Damage - 1d8 ⇒ 2

We don't talk with rats Round 5

Init: Braelex, Vuloo, Relan, Fulmen, Rats, Ayala, Andel, Aidon

Braelex steps aside of the still twitching body of Terisha and reloads her crossbow, immediately firing at the rat nearby skewering it in the side and sending it sliding along the floor in a bloody streak to smack against the wall.

Vuloo takes the shift in the battle to whip out a scroll, reading magical symbols that evoke invisible bands of force to settling on the wererat freezing her in place. Relan takes a concentrated moment to drive the dagger deep into her chest. As he does so he watches the life begin to slip out of her eyes.

END COMBAT! 1 rat and 1 more hit on a paralyzed Ayala ... we'll assume you mop them up. I'm going to assume loot and searching of the room and will give you that information here shortly. You will discover a secret door to a small chamber in the center of the blackened area. Details tonight. Anything else you wish to do? Big plans after the search?

The Dice:

Ayala Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14[/dice]; fail
Relan Coup de grace: 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11

Mop up & loot

As Relan finishes off Ayala, he begins to feel a bit light headed and stumbles a step.

Need Relan to make 2 DC 12 Fort Saves vs poison

The room to the south contains lavish furnishing to include a huge canopy bed and many modern pieces of furniture, obviously brought in from somewhere else. The sounds and smells of the ocean can be heard and smelt from the east.

Ayala carries the following: 2 empty vials that smell bitter, 3 tanglefoot bags, a set of masterwork studded leather, +1 bladed scarf, masterwork composite shortbow with 20 arrows, climber’s kit,
grappling hook with 50-foot silk rope, masterwork thieves’ tools, second-story harness.

Terisha carries the following: 3 potions of cure light wounds, 2 potions of lesser restoration, smokestick, 2 tanglefoot bags; masterwork chain shirt, masterwork hand crossbow with 10 bolts, masterwork short sword, masterwork whip, climber’s kit, grappling hook with 50-foot silk rope, second story harness, a silver holy symbol of Hanspur, the Rat King, thieves’ tools, 4 pp, 47 gp

Heaped on a table in the northern room are sections of wall mural, ancient coins, pieces of jewelry, gems, bits and pieces of pottery, and more for eventual sale in the markets of Magnimar—all treasures the Tower Girls have scavenged from the Crow. These treasures are worth 900 gp in all.

There are also several journals on the table. They are written in Varisian.

A small chest under the bed in the southern area holds 87 gp and 175 sp.

The small room behind the secret door contains an ancient skeleton lying on the floor. A search of the bones reveals a masterwork chain shirt, a masterwork rapier, a magical pendant, 50 feet of silk rope, and a
leather pouch containing 250 gp.

Once you sort loot and assess, what's the plan? The only obvious way to continue is through the doors. Alternatively, you have met one quest objective and could return to notify Natalya or update Sheila

I'd recommend gathering our finds and bounty and heading back to the city to rest.

One vote to return to the Lodge and rest, one to rest here and press on. Relan, Aidon, Fulmen?

Rest here and press on. I think we need to look into the doors.

"Now that the trash is cleared out, lets go take another look at the door." wipping his blade off and putting it back into his belt. Relan suddenly staggers and reaches out for something to brace himself. "Damn rat, figures she'd posion that scarf."

Keep rolling fort saves until you hit 14

Hmmm #4 might have been duplicated. Ill post another :)

"I am ok with heading back, but I think that we could stay and poke around a bit."

"I think we have taken care of all of the tower girls right? So we should be safe to explore a bit more"

Relan will take 2 points of Str and 2 points of Wisdom damage

Sounds like everyone is holing up here for the day and start at the door in the morning? (3 votes for, 1 against, 1 abstain).

Consider yourself rested with the benefits of one night of rest (Relan, you can pick 1 point of damage to heal).

The only known unexplored area is behind the runed doors.

Late in the afternoon, as you all gather up to head out, rested as best you can, you find Andel sitting in front of the doors, sketching out various combinations of the runes in his journal.

"I'm not entirely sure if we need to come up with 2 separate words or if they combine to form one. I'm going to guess two separate ones given the separation of the rune sets from each other. I'm thinking once we figure out what we think the solutions are, we need to determine the quickest way to get to them to minimize how long we stay in contact with the burning metal ... which I now believe is hot siccatite from comparing my notes with Tarric's here," Andel waves a sheaf of papers.

"Tarric read some excerpts from the book Sheila gave us, yesterday ... A Sky-Metal primer. According to it, siccatite comes in a hot variant as well as a cold variant, and is exceptionally rare. More so than adamantite. If that's the case, the Runelord of Wrath, who I'm assuming built this piling .. and on that note, perhaps the entire Irespan ... was certainly not without means."

Male Half-elf Druid 3 Monk 2

"What do we know we know the Runelord of Wrath? Maybe that will help us decipher what the code word or words are for the door? Are there any tools nearby that look like they could be used to move the letters or do you think it needs to be touched by flesh to activate?"

What were the letters again?

Andel Gesseran *NPC* wrote:
Andel squints from the far door and whispers, "The left set of runes spell LISTEN and the right set spells THE EYES. These must be the doors the other Tower Girls and Natalya were referring to."

Im not really sure how many times i can ask this because trying to page back to find the answer is painful, but does anyone have the original puzzle box solution or do i just give up asking about it :P
