Spoiler:
So the DM won't hear us. Why else!?

Edit: Hey Doran, don't you need to move forward before you can use PBS? :P

Male Dwarf Barbarian 12 [ HP 62/185* (0 NL) | AC 28 Tch 13 FF N/A (23) | Fort +18* Ref +10* Will +10* | CMD 33* | Init +4 Perc +15 | Effects: rage, 2 negative levels ]

Out of curiosity, DM, do you rule that grappled characters still threaten for purposes of flanking? (They're called out specifically as being unable to make Attacks of Opportunity.)

Correct, a grappled character can neither provide a flank nor benefit from a flank.

Male Dwarf Barbarian 12 [ HP 62/185* (0 NL) | AC 28 Tch 13 FF N/A (23) | Fort +18* Ref +10* Will +10* | CMD 33* | Init +4 Perc +15 | Effects: rage, 2 negative levels ]

Good. Thanks. :)

Edit: Well, not really "good" for me in this case, but it's the logical ruling, and I appreciate those.

Outsider Phantom 2, HP: 18/18, AC 15 /t 11 /f 14, F 4, R 5, W 0, Init +2, PasPer 15, Darkvision 60'

On the bright side, if that thing has a Dex bonus, it loses it to AC right now.
Now if only we had a Rogue on our side...

Male Dwarf Barbarian 12 [ HP 62/185* (0 NL) | AC 28 Tch 13 FF N/A (23) | Fort +18* Ref +10* Will +10* | CMD 33* | Init +4 Perc +15 | Effects: rage, 2 negative levels ]

Heh, not the whole Dex bonus. It just takes a -4 to Dex for being grappled.

Female Human Witch 4

Just like one's heart...

Where are my players?

Here! Hoping everybody won't decide to start bleeding into the well. :P

What could possibly go wrong?

Would everyone feel encouraged to get posting if I told you you were very very close to 3rd level?

Knowing you? ;)

I'm open to moving forward.

What's forward:

Fiddling with the well?

Exploring that unknown door?

Going home with your tails between your legs?

Door, unless the rest are intent on getting us all killed with the well. :P

Where's that shoanti fighting spirit?

But but... Wisdom!

Wisdom check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

See?!

... fine. Give me a minute.

GO TEAM!

I'm debating how to develop Ensu, and I'm heavily leaning toward multiclassing into bard. I just can't do what I want to do with him with the cleric chassis; thematically, I like the idea of a knowledge and skill type cleric, but the class really doesn't provide any mechanical support for it. At this point, the only real question remaining is when to do it. Is it worth taking a 3rd level of cleric before starting in on bard or should I just jump into bard at 3rd level?

If Ensu as he is isn't working for your concept I wouldn't mind a wholesale rebuild. He could still have heavy religious ties as a bard.

male gnome cloistered cleric 3 [ HP: 19/23 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 14 | F: +5 R: +1 W: +6 | Init: +1 Perc: +2 | Effects: ]

I'll have to look at that. The more I actually try to play the cleric class, the more I think it desperately needs a major rewrite to fit more than a very basic healing and support role.

Have you considered Cloistered Cleric?

They don't get the bardic take 10 thing you're after but they get a scaling bonus to knowledge checks and a few other class features that seem like a good fit for your concept.

Funny enough, I've been playing a lot of clerics lately and I find they're an amazing class.

The biggest problem for me is the limited skill points. I'd want to bump that up but I'm not sure what to cut to make room. I'm thinking nerfed armor proficiency.

Male Human (Chelaxian roots) Ranger 11 [ HP: 28/91 | AC: 25 T: 14 FF: 22 CMD: 26 | F: +11 R: +16 W: +8 | Init: +5 Perc: +14 (G: +16) (U: +18) (Giants: +18) | Hunter's Tricks: 5/5 |]

Cloistered Cleric looks like a good fit, especially with the Verbal Instruction class feature.

male gnome cloistered cleric 3 [ HP: 19/23 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 14 | F: +5 R: +1 W: +6 | Init: +1 Perc: +2 | Effects: ]

Clerics are very good within a narrow band of roles and concepts, but I've found that the domains are not really enough by themselves to really make concepts outside that narrow band truly viable; the spell list is simply too dominant of a feature for the class, and is largely worthless for many concepts. I'll look at that archetype and scroll scholar looks like it might be promising as well. The skill points are going to be the biggest issues though; there's too many individual knowledge skills and not enough skill points to cover more than one or two of them.

Well if that's the biggest thing bugging you, I'd strongly recommend Cloistered Cleric. They get base 4 skill points per level, Scribe Scoll (so you could drop the Rune Domain), and a scaling bonus to all knowledge skills.

Male Dwarf Barbarian 12 [ HP 62/185* (0 NL) | AC 28 Tch 13 FF N/A (23) | Fort +18* Ref +10* Will +10* | CMD 33* | Init +4 Perc +15 | Effects: rage, 2 negative levels ]

Nethys has the Knowledge domain, too... if the DM lets you swap the Memory subdomain for Rune, you get some rather nice abilities.

male gnome cloistered cleric 3 [ HP: 19/23 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 14 | F: +5 R: +1 W: +6 | Init: +1 Perc: +2 | Effects: ]

The only thing that bugs me about cloistered cleric is that largely worthless selection of weapon proficiencies. I could live with sling as his only ranged weapon, but Ensu would have no interest in maces; he ain't voluntarily getting that close. The fact they don't even have dagger or any kind of spear on the list is very disappointing, because otherwise it looks like it would work really well. Could I possibly change the maces out for dagger and longspear? Everything else works really well with comparatively minor changes to the fluff, but I really do like having a longspear to do aid anothers on a regular basis, and an adventurer that isn't proficient in dagger is just dumb.

Sure, you can swap mace/club for longspear/dagger.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Inquisitor 3

Sorry, I passed out early last night and headed straight to work after I woke up and got ready today.

It's cool, though, you can roll Nat 20s for my shots, if you like. ;)

Outsider Phantom 2, HP: 18/18, AC 15 /t 11 /f 14, F 4, R 5, W 0, Init +2, PasPer 15, Darkvision 60'

@Pirknok: Doh! Actually that could very well have made a difference since her Con is only 10. That would mean she didn't make the stabilization & is at -8 HP.

Nods, but no worries, 'cause Ensu's about to pour a CMW down ya. :)

Male Human (Chelaxian) Inquisitor 3

Okay, I have to apologize for not being very active for the last week or so.

I just started a job, while taking a full load of classes at my college, and doing 15 hours of observation at an Elementary school for one of those classes, so I have been mentally and emotionally drained and not really in the proper shape to be contributing meaningfully to the game.

My last day of observation is Thursday, so after that, it should be full speed ahead, but I will likely get bogged down with papers and such in the coming month or two. I kindly request your patience.

*grumbles as "new posts" goes from 3 to 7 while I'm trying to reply to other games, saving the best for last*

Doran: I can relate. Thankfully I'm not in that position anymore, but I've been there. I suppose now wouldn't be the best time to tell you that it doesn't really get better after you graduate...

Male Human (Chelaxian) Inquisitor 3

Oh, I don't expect it to. But I want everybody to know that I'm not just off somewhere dicking around. I'm just swamped!

Male Dwarf Barbarian 12 [ HP 62/185* (0 NL) | AC 28 Tch 13 FF N/A (23) | Fort +18* Ref +10* Will +10* | CMD 33* | Init +4 Perc +15 | Effects: rage, 2 negative levels ]

I get the feeling you're not in your first year, so why haven't you figured out that you don't need sleep yet?

Spoiler:
You actually do.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Inquisitor 3

I'm aware!

Trout are especially tasty breaded with oats, pan-fried, and dipped in buttermilk.

Female :D Check out my fetching opercles!

That is the opposite of saving me. Apparently I have to shapeshift...

EEP, a witch! KILL IT!!!

DM:
May I have early access to the Witch Hunter rage power to deal with this threat?

Female Human Witch 4

Hm.. what form would be best for this Shoanti dwarf?
A squirrel? A piglet?.....A....trout...?

Male Dwarf Barbarian 12 [ HP 62/185* (0 NL) | AC 28 Tch 13 FF N/A (23) | Fort +18* Ref +10* Will +10* | CMD 33* | Init +4 Perc +15 | Effects: rage, 2 negative levels ]

I rather like my Shoanti dwarf form, thank you very much.

Hey! Whose side are you on?!

Ventus, are you around? If so, I'm going to NPC Doran.

The trout's. Everyone knows that you wait for them to mate so that there will be more trout to eat next year.
