"Well, if nothing is responding to that loud clanging, then I doubt that we have much to worry about." remarks Uirdir, deciding that staying quiet is irrelevant now. "At least you disabled it... right?" he says with a wink.

"Bero or Viro, care to lead the way?" he says after cracking his neck and readying himself for an inevitable fight with some goblin or human, urging the group forward.

The Heroes move onward to the left door. Beromar throws it open as is his wont.

Area E4

Wide stone ledges of red marble line the curving walls of this room, which is well lit by four burning skulls that sit in each corner. Three chairs rest in the room, and both stone ledges are covered with old books, scrolls, teeth, bones, scrimshaw artwork, jars of deformed creatures soaking in brine, taxidermied animals and limbs, and other strange objects. To the north, a large round fountain filled with frothy blue water fills the room with the gentle sound of bubbling.

And at the end of the room the heroes find a beautiful aasimar woman with silver hair and haunting eyes. But her left arm is red, demonic and clawed. At that moment she completes an incantation and smiles cruelly at the heroes.

This can only be Nualia. And sitting next to her is an emaciated, hairless canine with a strange air of menace and cruelty about it.

"Good. Now I shall have a truly worthy sacrifice for the Mother Of Monsters."

She hefts her bastard sword in one hand, and reaches for a medallion with the other. The hound looks ready to pounce.

Earlier
Alexei is particularly impressed at Viroleth's skill at finding and identifying the trap. As Bruin grants the rogue Desna's holy luck, the Varisian hunter bows his head in respect and admiration. His is not surprised when the goddess' luck allows the trap to be disabled.

Now
Alexei lets out an audible growl as the he hears the challenge from Nualia. With the hallway full of allies, he waits for a space to clear, then advances ready to fire a shot at the first enemy he sees.

Delay until after Beromar moves. Hopefully there will be space to make a shot at that point. It's hell being the last sled dog...

Yeah, sometimes the dice just suck, Bero. And, no, not mind-control. It's a supernatural fear effect.

Male Human Ranger 4 | HP 29/29 | AC 16 T 13 FF 13 | Fort +4 Ref +7 Will +3 | Init +5 | Per +9, +11 vs humans |

Seeing the little man retreat, Beromar run in fear, and his former ally shredded on the floor, Alexei cannot stand it any longer. Uttering a cry of rage and frustration, he knows they cannot win the day against this evil foe.

Standing his ground so Uirdir can withdraw, Alexei fires once more at demonic Nualia before turning to cover the withdrawal of the group through the trapped hallway.

Alexei longbow, PBS, bless: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Dmg, PBS: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Firing then delaying after Uirdir goes. Still have PfE on so Yeth Hound shouldn't be able to attack physically at least.

Uirdir scowls as Bruin flees alongside Beromar. "That one wasn't even affected by magic. Viro was a stout lad and I'm not going to leave his body to be manipulated by this woman." he spits as his hand erupts in cold.

He reaches out and tries to touch the evil woman with his hand, hoping to slow her down with his ice magic as Alexei fires off an arrow that strikes her as well (well hopefully).

Frigid Touch @ Nualia-TAC: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

Male Human Ranger 4 | HP 29/29 | AC 16 T 13 FF 13 | Fort +4 Ref +7 Will +3 | Init +5 | Per +9, +11 vs humans |

I will change my action, if possible. If Uirdir makes a stand instead of fleeing, can I make a move action instead, moving as indicated. It will provoke, unless her AoO on Bruin is spent. But puts me in a position to recover the body, next round. Get some healing ready as we save the corpse.

PfE has my AC at 18 against whatever blows fall on me...

Just stand back and keep firing arrows. Don't take needless damage. We've put 60 damage into her. I bet we can take her down.

Welp, so much for a dramatic retreat, I suppose. :-)

Nualia doesn't have combat reflexes so feel free to run laps around her.

Oh, and, Uirdir, Aasimars have resistance to cold damage.

Forgot that she is an aasimar! Also, she could just be a really glowy human. She has other non-human attributes. >.> Also, Uirdir is a cold specialist at the moment, so cold is all I got, plus keeping her staggered is key, imo.

Yeah staggered is nasty but only as long as no one is within 5 feet of her...

What is the Fort save for?

Sorry, misread. Thought it was another snowball.

After Bruin runs away, Alexei and Uirdir, fueled by righteous rage, continue their onslaught, heedless of any danger to themselves. Uirdir delivers a freezing cold touch, that doesn't seem to do much damage to the aasimar, but causes her to grimace nonetheless.

Alexei fires an arrow hitting Nualia deep in her exposed hip, and then he moves around behind her.

The yeth hound takes a pointless swipe at the ranger, but is unable to touch him. It tries to attack Uirdir next, but is once again rebuffed by Desna's protection.

Beromar wildly jumps up and down trying desperately to get over his magically-induced fear. He looks at Bruin cowering and blubbering and yells, "Damn it, boy! What's yer excuse?! Get in there!"

Combat:
Insp. Courage (+2) shortbow +8(1d4+1), 19/x2 | Deadly Aim (-1,+2) | Cast Def. +9 | BoL 5/5, Agile 5/5

Bruin watches Beromar try so desperately to break the panic spell he is under. And his resolve hardens.

"I'm sorry, Viro," he says quietly.

The halfling then growls, dashes off as fast as his enchanted, furry feet can take him while reaching for a dagger from his bandolier.

Using adaptable luck for +3 luck bonus to my attack.

He stops just behind Uirdir and hurls his dagger.

Dagger vs. Nualia: 1d20 + 6 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 3 + 1 + 1 = 20
Damage (PBS): 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

The dagger lands in the center of her abdomen, along a hideous scar. Nualia sees this and yells incoherently in rage.

"No! I won't die here. I won't!"

Nualia vs. Uirdir: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19

Nualia yells again and drives her sword into Uirdir, only to have her blade slapped away almost effortlessly by the enraged elf's rapier.

Good call on the shield, Elfman

Round 5

Viroleth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Uirdir: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Alexei: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Yeth Hound: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Beromar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Bruin: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

Nualia: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Let's just go ahead and skip the yeth hound. It can't hurt anyone anyway. Bold is up.

GM Only:

Nualia AC 18, HP 15/68, +11(1d10+16)
Yeth Hound AC 15, HP 28/30

Uirdir takes a second to slap her sword away from him as he grins evilly at her. "I might think that you will, especially after killing off the funniest person we had..."

He concentrates on his magic as he tries to summon another gout of cold to stagger the woman.

Concentration-DC 19: 1d20 + 4 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 4 + 4 = 14 Fail.

However, the new, stronger spells seem to have him a bit muddled in battle. Despite that, he keeps his wits about him and moves to the side to allow Bruin or Beromar to move in for the kill.

Male Human Ranger 4 | HP 29/29 | AC 16 T 13 FF 13 | Fort +4 Ref +7 Will +3 | Init +5 | Per +9, +11 vs humans |

Dropping his bow for close-in fighting, Alexei steps behind the evil aasimar, drawing out his longsword as he moves and stabbing at Nualia from behind in the meantime.

Alexei longsword, flanking, bless: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Dmg, if hit: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

It is a +1 longsword if it matters for purposes of DR etc. AC is still 18 as long as PfE is up.

Uirdir's spell fails, but his positioning gives Alexei a perfect opportunity to strike with his longsword. The enchanted blade slices deep into Nualia's demonic arm, revealing muscle and sinew.

Nualia screams again.

Bruin draws a second dagger from his bandolier and lets it fly.

Using last adaptable luck for +3 bonus.

Dagger (ranged): 1d20 + 6 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 6 + 3 + 1 + 1 = 27
Damage (PBS): 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Nualia turned to face Alexei, and received a dagger buried in her back for her trouble. She ignored it, not realizing the horrific damage it had caused her.

Nualia vs. Alexei: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17

She makes a desperate attack against the ranger only for her strike to come short.

A look of true fear passes on her face.
