Bruin scurried over some awkwardly placed clay jugs, their contents upending upon him and bathing him with cold ale. He ignored it and stopped behind Beromar.

On my phone, so I can't adjust the map. If someone could do me the favor, I'd really appreciate it.

He put his hand on Beromar's thick tree stump of a leg, and said a prayer.

"Desna, sweet Starsong, cast your sight upon this noble warrior, and grant him your luck and grace."

Bit of luck on Beromar. For the next round, he can roll 2d20 and take the higher result.

Moving to his left trying to get line of sight on a goblin, Loges unleashes a glob of acid, hitting White Goblin and sizzling his flesh slightly. The goblin leaves off his terrorism and growls low and slow at the wizard.

Meanwhile, his pie eating compatriot finally hears the sounds of a real battle and perks up his ears. Downing one more pie, he leaps from the cart and begins racing towards the active melee.

Calling down the luck of the Starsong, Bruin passes that favor along to Beromar, who remains locked in mortal combat with Red Goblin.

Ok, Viroleth is up, with Beromar and Olywn (who is summoning) not far behind. Post away.

Beromar has had enough of singing and tries his best to take out the next Goblin 'artist' with Dwarven brutality and a deft uppercut. While he is too slow for the red Goblin the red goblin is too dumb to expect the Dwarf's impressive speed and the Goblin is left spinning when Beromar turns the misguided uppercut into a chop aimed at the feeble creatures neck. The follow up kick into the midsection however does the little stinker in for good.

Viro takes a step towards the red goblin and slashes out twice with his rapier and shortsword.

Initial Assault - Round 2 - continued

Viroleth skirts the greasy spot on the ground, striking at the Red Goblin with both his blades. The rapier finds a sweet spot, scratching the goblin's neck, just missing a vital artery.

With luck on his side, thanks to Bruin, Beromar punishes the same goblin with a flurry of blows, pummeling his face in until the goblin slumps dead on the ground.

Still sizzling from the acid thrown by Loges, White Goblin charges the wizard, dogslicer chopping the air ahead of him.

As Olywnn finishes his summoning spell, an eagle appears, and the dwarf druid still has time to act in this segment.

Initial Assault - Round 2 - concluded

Finishing the rite of summoning, the dwarven druid pulls a screaming war-eagle through a dimensional portal and launches it at the White Goblin. The soaring eagle rips at the goblin as it races past just scratching the ducking wild beast.

After summoning the eagle, Olywnn steps up to engage White Goblin himself, swinging his quarterstaff at the invader, but his swing is ill-aimed and the goblin avoids it easily.

Loges, sore from the wound he took, withdraws, clearing a path for the expected counter-attack from the lightly defended walls.

Blue Goblin rushes to get into the melee, his slicer cutting the air, but then driving deep into the side of the Chelish rogue, who's lifeblood begins pouring out onto the ground.

Viro almost slumps over, blood coursing from the wound from the goblin.

Oh God, I'm going to die. Wait, no, that's Bruin! Should I get behind the goblin? No... fancy footwork will get me killed.

He looks to see a healer rushing up to him, and enthused he stays his ground, but attacks very cautiously.

Counter-attacks by Bruin and Viroleth both fall short of hitting the menacing goblins. The cleric moves into a position to aid the human rogue who is looking worse for wear.

If Viroleth doesn't fall:

Bruin channels the power of his goddess and heals his allies.

Finally, a good channel roll. Although, given my luck lately Viro will drop and this will just never happen.


Initial Assault - Round 4 - continued

Loges moves around his puddle of greasy goo, careful to watch his footing as he tosses a globule of acid at Blue Goblin. The greenish goo flies past the goblin's elongated head without any ill effects.

Seeing an ancient goblin enemy enter the melee, Blue Goblin turns to Beromar and hacks at the dwarf with his slicer, but the excited goblin fumbles his blade enough that the attack is hopeless from the outset.

Channeling the energy of his patron deity, Bruin brings forth healing energy on all within 30' of him. As he does so, a cloud of blue swallowtails forms up and swirls through the battlefield. Where they alight, the healing magic is passed, mending flesh and sinew.

This healing is especially useful for the grossly wounded Viroleth, who absorbs the divine power, and feels nearly restored. His vitality returned, Viroleth recklessly plows through the greased area, nearly stumbling, but his bold move is rewarded with a flank attack on the rear of the goblin warrior who is fully involved with the dwarven monk. Viroleth's twin blades both pierce the goblin warrior from behind, and he collapses in a dead heap.

On the other side of the melee, White Goblin continues his struggle with Olwynn, stabbing at the dwarf violently. The blade creases across the druid's shoulder leaving a fresh wound.

For flavor...

Bruin shuddered a little as he finished channeling. He smiled weakly as he looked upon the fleeing swallowtails.

He was nearly drained of his magic and feeling terrified that someone else could get seriously hurt. Viro had already nearly fallen. And it looked like Olwynn was in bad shape as well.

He gripped his silvered mace tightly, his knuckles white with tension. He was afraid, so very afraid.

"Oh, Lady Desna, please give me strength," he prayed through shaky breaths.


Initial Assault - Round 4 - concluded

Beromar rushes across the courtyard turned battlefield to aid his dwarven brother against the remaining goblin attacker, but Olwynn appears to have it under control as he screams out at the goblin then cracks it on the head with his enchanted staff.

The goblin staggers around for a second or two numbly then falls forward hard on his face.

Nice work! Your PC's gain 135xp each for the victory in this battle versus the goblins. We will be using the accelerated track for leveling, so that's 135/1300 or about 10% of the way to Level 2.


While the immediate threat has subsided, a quick glance around shows a scene of utter chaos. Small fires burn here and there in the gathering darkness, their flickers illuminating the gruesome shadows of more goblins ransacking this part of town. Voices cry out, and steel clashes as the goblin's continue their sing-song chanting a few freaking out entirely and capering about like mad fools.

There does not seem to be an imminent threat for the moment. What do you do next?

Bruin takes a moment to catch his breath.

"Is everyone alright?" he asked.

He felt naked without his lucky crossbow. He looked around frantically to see if any of the goblins carried one he could take. Barring that perhaps he could find a dagger to throw, or perhaps a shield to cover his flank.

"Is the militia about? Hells, does this town even have a militia?"

Bruin:
Bruin finds that each of the slain goblins near him wears a set of goblin-quality leather armor and carries a small wicked knife like a dagger but not at all balanced for throwing. They also each have a small wooden shield, which would fit the halfling just about right. Additionally, he finds something else: each of the goblins wears a little token or symbol on a leather thong about his neck. Looking closely, he sees the same types of symbols repeated, a large carnivore-looking tooth, a baby bird or bird egg, a dessicated frog carcass, a small seven-pointed star, and a pine cone. The goblins seem to wear these at random, but no other tokens are seen.

Loges:
In your research at the Acadamae, you learned a bit about the behavior of goblins. Generally, they are chaotic and disorderly creatures, which may attack in small bands, usually when they have superior numbers, but you have never heard of an organized attack on a settlement of any size before.

Although it's dark and you can't make things out clearly, flickering firelight illuminates enough that you can see the lithe figure of Ameiko, sword in hand, leading a conglomeration of town guards and citizens in a determined defense against a group of goblins to your south. Also in the group, you spy Lars the Ulfen bartender wielding a great double bladed axe with berserker abandon.

As you approach the scene, Amieko turns hearing your approach. She smiles as she sees you. "'Bout time you showed up, plenty of uglies for the killing. I think we can turn the...Oh by the Gods, no!" Her eyes widen in horror and she points to the east, back towards the Cathedral. Turning you see...

As Loges nears his companions, he states,

To your left, a large fireball erupts at a point just south of the Cathedral's western entrance. Near you, Ameiko shouts: "Dear Gods, no! That's the fuel for tonight's bonfire. With that they can burn the whole town! You must stop them! We'll hold them off here!"

Need DC 15 Perception checks from all, may not take 10 this time. Anyone with Darkvision may take +4 bonus, low-light vision +2.

DC 15 or better:
Turning towards the towering column of flame, you see the sinister shadowy figures of a handful of goblins lighting torches from a wagon filled with wood and fuel. They are led by a gobliness, who is chanting the singsong nonsense that has been so grating to your ears. You may act in the surprise round.

Failed DC 15 Perception:
The light from the fireball gives you temporary night-blindness, and while you can hear the singing coming from that area grow louder, you cannot make out the cause. You may NOT act during the surprise round.

After igniting a cask of oil and causing the explosion, all the base goblins grab staves of wood, lighting them in the oily flames. The singing Goblin starts up her song from the beginning again, stirring the others into a frothing-at-the-mouth frenzy (not that they needed much help).

Lighting the torches are their surprise round actions. If you made your check you may take move or standard action only.

Bruin picks up a shield of one of the goblins bodies and grimaces at the smell.

"Disgusting creatures."

He conjured a small spout of water to try to clean it off. But to no real avail, the stink lingered.

When he hears Loges' proclamation he shrugs.

"These goblins seem plenty organized to me."

He noticed Ameiko.

And then there was fire.

"To arms! They're trying to burn the town!"

Bruin, despite all his fear, hefted his mace and smelly shield and dove headlong toward danger.

Using a move action for the surprise round. Adding +1 to AC from light shield. New Total is 15. Bless and Divine Favor have doubtless expired by now.

With the goblin dead, Viro quickly gushes forth a series of incoherent thank-yous to Bruin before he doubles over, hyperventilating as he tries to calm himself down. He finally manages to catch his breath and looks down at his bloodied weapons.

Could be worse. Little bastard had it coming. Okay Viro, goblin raid, you've got weapons and most other people don't... wait is that Ameiko? My beauty!

Viro stares up admiringly at Ameiko as she shouts about the goblin raid. However, his eyes go wide as he sees the fireball rise and he quickly shields his eyes. Spurred on by Bruin's call to arms, he charges off alongside the halfling.

"I'll try not to get my intestines ripped out this time! Let's get the little turds!"

As the small vendor pavilion near the cart catches fire, you hear the screams of small children inside the tent.

Viro charges for the tent the red goblin is near, and shouts at it.

"Opening a back way!" With that Viro punches the tent wall to ensure nobody is leaning on the other side, and then slashes it open with his short sword.

Not sure if I need to roll damage against a tent wall.

Goblin Pyros - Round 1

Viroleth advances to the edge of the now burning pavilion, cutting an opening in the canvas with his blade. Inside, he sees a group of 3-4 small children huddled where their parents hid them from the goblin attack. The pavilion is quickly filling with smoke as the far end ignites under the capering goblin's torch.

Beromar rushes to the tent as well, moving as quickly as his dwarf-legs will carry him.

Green Goblin sees the dwarf monk approach at full speed and rushes to meet him, swinging his flaming brand before him like a weapon, but Beromar is able to avoid the flaming end this time.

The goblin songstress also advances, flicking the end of her coiled whip at Beromar's feet, trying to tangle and trip him but instead the whip snares in the tent cords, and the attack is stifled.

Loges is able to distract the cavorting goblin with the shimmering swirl of colors. "OH, Pretty colors!" the goblin croaks, jumping after them.

Green Torch: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13
Purple CMB vs Beromar CMD 15: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1

Moved to stand beside Viroleth and saw the frightened faces of the children. Once again his anger swallowed his fear.

He summoned Desna's grace and laid his hand momentarily atop Viro's, imparting a touch of her divine luck.

"The Starsong guide your aim, Viro," Bruin prayed through clenched teeth.

Goblin Pyros - Round 1

Olwynn double moves to support his dwarven cousin in combat with the torch-wielding Green Goblin.

Passing along the luck of the Desna, Bruin reaches out to Viroleth, hoping to aid in his rescue of the small Varisian children.

Alerted to the oncoming heroes, Red Goblin moves around the burning pavilion, trying to get in position to attack the heroes.

On a command from the goblin bard, Blue Goblin advances swinging his torch at Olwynn, but misses touching the druid with the his flaming brand.

With the tent open, Viro turns to see the goblin singing and snarling at him. Calming himself and approaching a little more cautiously, he waits until he spies an opening, knocking aside the goblin's nastily little weapon before he viciously lunges for the throat with both swords.

Rapier Lucky Roll: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16 Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
So taking the 16 on that roll.

Confirm: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19 Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Attacking the red goblin like it owes me money.


Goblin Pyros - Round 2

Viroleth lunges at Red Goblin with both blades flashing. He grunts with satisfaction as the hand of luck guides his first blade into the body of the goblin, while his second stabs straight into the neck of the creature, killing it.

With tent flap cut open, and the goblin dispatched, the small children flee from the smoking tent, just in time to see the flaming top fall in a shower of sparks.

One down, a few more to go. Beromar up now.
