DM DoctorEvil |
Orik, as has already been discussed, you don't get extra actions due to the fear effect. If it's a move action to drop your shield due to a strap of some kind, then it's not dropped. Hope that's clear. It makes your attack only one-handed, and I will adjust your damage appropriately. It still provokes to grab the weapon,
Nualia Gets Served - Round 2 - continued
As Orik reaches for his weapon, the evil outsider hound snaps his jaws at the man. The jaws close around Orik's mailed arm, but he is not damaged and manages to grab his sword and swing around at the flying beast.
The sword slips between the ribs of the yeth hound, which whines in pain, as blood splashes on the ground. The beast hasn't quite given up the fight however as it turns to bite at Orik once again. Again the teeth close on steel, but Orik is not harmed.
Meanwhile, Nualia turns to attack Barek, her movement cutting him off from the others. Her sword whips around two-handed at the unarmed fighter with a fury and power more than her lithe frame would otherwise be capable of. "You dare touch me?" she screams. "Feel my Mother's power then, human scum.". The sword bites deeply into Barek's arm and shoulder causing a big wound and 19hp dmg
Far away, Tunder continues running in fear.
Yeth AoO vs Orik: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Yeth vs Orik: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Nualia sword, Fury of Abyss, power attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
Dmg to Barek, PA, ferocious strike: 1d10 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19
Besides the 19 hp damage, Barek needs a DC 19 Fort save. Just need Mirela's action to close the round. Nualia has a -2 penalty to AC for 1 round.
Mirela Malvo |
"Barek!" Seeing her fellow Varisian taking some punishment from the wicked demon woman, Mirela moves behind Orik and leaps to forward to re-engage Nualia.
Going to move through the space occupied by the Orik, which is threatened by the Yeth Hound.
Acrobatics Check to leap through threatened area: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Rolled a 4, yeah right... using 2nd Chance class ability to re-roll that sucker.
Acrobatics, 2nd Chance: 1d20 + 10 - 5 ⇒ (17) + 10 - 5 = 22
That's better. Attacking Nualia. Hopefully we can kill that damn dog soon, Mirela is far less effective when she can't flank.
Leaping past the ailing hound from hell, Mirela grips her rapier and stabs at Nualia.
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 6 + 1 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 = 6

Nualia Gets Served - round 2 - concluded
Mirela dodges any AoO from the yeth hound (he'd already burned his for the round BTW) and moves to stab at Nualia with her rapier. The sword strike wounds the evil aasimar slightly, scratching her shoulder as she deals with Barek. "I already told you you'd get yours, whore. Now you'll face my wrath directly!" screams the evil and insane woman.
Where the blade of Nualia pierced the flesh of Barek, scales start forming. Soon his whole upper torso has become lizard like, and small horns protrude from his head. His tongue grows forked as the snake-like change takes over.
Takes 1d4 ⇒ 3 CHA damage which fades along with the effect in 1 hour.
End of Round 2
Barek Hisdren |
Barek recoils at the scales suddenly covering his arm and then his whole upper body. "What'sssss happening? What did ssssshe do?" He hisses.
The fighter keeps his wits, however, and steps around Nualia, flanking her with Miri on the other side. He lashes out with his now-scaled fist.
Attack (DS, BS, PA, Flank): 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 10 + 2 = 19
Damage (DS, BS, PA): 1d6 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22
There you go Mirela!
Selena Magnimar |
Selena 5ft steps back against the wall away from the yeth hound. Hoping that she can help with the Yeth hound she focuses another and her last telekinetic fist at the hound.
ranged touch attack with precise shot 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 for 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 damage
Forgot about point blank shot last time so missed out on 2 points of damage. I doubt we can retroactively add it but letting you know why this roll is different.
Hang in there Barek. We will not let you fall even if you look like something Tunder may have stepped in at one time.
Nice hit by the way Barek. IS it worth it to flurry or don't you have flurry in your build?
Seldon Swiftheel |
Knowledge (planes or religion): Can Seldon determine what's happening to Barek?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
The elf fights on, breaking his stony silence. "We'll send you back to your mother in pieces, heretic. Desna! Tessa le'megil!"
I'm guessing by attacking Orik the Yeth Hound is in melee range at 6ft. in the air?, if so Seldon should be able to bring it down.
+1 Longsword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
But if not he will draw his bow instead and full attack. I've not moved him on the map as I'm not sure if I can melee or not, I'll leave that to you, Doc.
Rapid Shot (into melee?): 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 5 - 4 = 17
Rapid Shot (into melee?): 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 5 - 4 = 16
Damage (cold iron): 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Damage (cold iron): 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Orik Vancasterkin |
"Die beast!" Orik growls out at the yeth hound as he attempts to cut it in two.
masterwork bastard sword: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 9 + 2 - 2 = 25 bull str and PA, damage: 1d10 + 5 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 2 + 4 = 16
AC 23, also +2 on saves vs. evil creatures.
Mirela Malvo |
Having been provided a golden opportunity by Barek to outflank to demon worshiper, Mirela strikes hard and fast with both her blades.
"Dare? Of course we dare!"
Rapier Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 1 = 3
Sneak Attack: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8
Dagger Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 22
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Sneak Attack: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7
Thanks Barek! Unfortunately, Mirela's damage is very situational... when she gets the opportunity though, it can add up pretty quick. Anyway, hopefully that does it; between Barek and Mirela, Nualia has taken 42 damage this round alone.

Nualia Gets Served - Round 3 - continued
Stepping forward and driving his longsword upwards, Seldon penetrates the underbelly of the yeth hound, driving his magical blade to the hilt. The dog howls once more in pain, then collapses to the floor, dead.
Circling behind, the insane aasimar, Barek unloads another mighty blow to her ribs. The whoosh of air escaping her lungs is clearly audible over the din of the rest of the battle, and Nualia is clearly staggered by the blow.
With the beast already fallen, Orik turns his blade on his former employer. With his magically enhanced strength and putting all the force of his attack into it, he drives his enchanted blade through Nualia's defences, and skewers her in the chest. Her eyes roll back, and her body goes limp collapsing as Orik withdraws the blade. Blood gushes from her many wounds, as she lies on the floor next to her hound, unmoving.
End of combat
Wow, you guys got serious on her really fast. Good work. Back later with the wrap-up.
Selena Magnimar |
Sweet nice job guys. It looks like I get to keep a telekinetic fist as well.
Selena is a bit taken back by the quick work done not he hound and Nualia. Still she has a job to do and cast detect magic on the area hoping to find anything of use. If the others don't want to wait and move back up t clear it the rest of the temple while everyone is enchanted that works for her as well.
Barek Hisdren |
MOMS loses the Flurry, but next level I'll take Two-Weapon fighting and really be able to pummel things.
Barek spits on Nualia's bloody body. It comes out all odd due to the scaly transformation though. "Good ssswork everyone. Niccce sssswordwork, Orik." He stares down at his scaly skin. "Sssshe turned me into a monsssster!"
Selena Magnimar |
Ahh I see now why you weren't going all out. With your to hit modifiers I thought for sure it would be easy to soak the -2 for the extra attack. Next level is gong to be nasty then when you get another attack.
Selena feels for the mighty warrior but still wants to bring in some brevity in the situation. Perhaps it is just a reflection on the armor you are wearing. If you take off all your equipment it might go away? Selena asks with a slight raise of an eyebrow.
On a more serious matter, We have eliminated this threat but do we want to proceed onward here or up above while the enchantments still last? If not then I will search her gear and the room for magic auras?
DM DoctorEvil |
Defeating Nualia and the yeth hound earns each member of the group 600xp. I also realized I didn't give you any XP award for dealing with Lyrie; that would be another 133 per player. Your new cumulative total should be 7353/10000 or about 33% to level 5.
With the fight over, the heroes breath deeply. Barek, wounded and transformed into a serpent type creature is defiant. While Tunder comes limping back to the room eventually, his pride wounded more than his body.
Selena casts Detect Magic and several magical auras are found, including Nualia's breastplate, bastard sword, and medallion. She also has a golden holy symbol of Lamashtu, and a handful of platinum (7pp) and gold (5 gp) coins. The medallion is a silver disc hanging around her neck with a leather cord. The medallion is etched with a seven-pointed star.
Not sure if you are going to look around this room, or continue with dungeon crawl. If you decide to stay and search, let me know.
Seldon Swiftheel |
"Na vedui! I dass carnen. Mára mesta marienna, Hadrim. Lye'acharae." the elf murmurs, before crushing the golden holy symbol beneath his heel until its shape is unrecognizable. "There is more to do. We must cut this place off from the eyes of the abyss and ensure this creature stays sealed below."
"Worry not, mellonaemin. This is the taint of the Mother of Monsters, but it will not last." he brushes his hand gently across Bareks skin, and already the scales have begun to flake. He nods his agreement to Barek's praises. "Indeed, you fought well, Orik of Riddleport. What will you do now?"
Communal Prot Evil likely won't last, but the others will. I say we press on and clear the place.
Selena Magnimar |
I am with you Seldon to push on while we can.
Indeed we have avenged Thorn but there are other creatures here that we should vanquish quickly while we can. Then we can feel better resting here without worry about being attacked. At least let us go back up and clear out that unholy shrine with the dogs.
Once things are decided then I will do the spellcraft rolls.
Barek Hisdren |
"But we don't want to awaken that monster, right? We want to keep it sealed here. What is we sssssimply collapse this level?" Barek seems to regaining some of his humanity.
Mirela Malvo |
Hearing Seldon's prognosis of the Varisian Brawler's condition, Mirela breathes a sigh of relief and lightly teases "I don't know Barek, it's kinda an improvement." With a light jab to his shoulder, Mirela creeps up on Nualia. Prodding aasismar with her right foot, Mirela grins "This one was all talk."
Looking back as the others contemplate their next move, Mirela shrugs in a nonchalant manner "I'm fine to stay if we need to finish mopping up whatever is left here, but if others need rest then you won't here any complaints from me."
Barek Hisdren |
Barek kicks Nualia's bastard sword toward Orik and strips off her armor. He also pulls off the medallion when Selena tell him it's magical. "Yeah, I say we backtrack and take a look at that cathedral. Hopefully with Nualia dead, whatever is in there won't have much more power."
Selena, can you ID these items?
Selena Magnimar |
To speed things along Selena chose not to cast detect magic yet and keep as much time as available for the spell durations. Once we are done with the second level then she will come back to detect magic.
DM DoctorEvil |
I think you mean to go back up to the first dungeon level and look at the temple where the other hounds are alleged to be? Correct?
Heading back upstairs, Selena leads the group through the workroom where Lyrie used to be. Now many of the artifacts are missing, and the wayward wizard is nowhere to be found.
Continuing on, the group is soon situated outside the ornately carved doors of the evil temple of Lamashtu. The obscene pictures on the doors seem to almost come to life, so great is the craftsmanship of their horrific making, and it is a relief to swing the doors open so as not to have to view them anymore.
Stone fonts containing frothy dark water sit to the north and south of the eastern entrance to the room, and twin banks of stone pillars run the length of the long chamber. At the western end, shallow stairs rise to a platform about two feet off the ground. The walls surrounding the platform are lit by hanging braziers that emit glowing red smoke, giving the place an unnerving crimson lighting that throws the bas-relief carvings of countless monsters feasting on fleeing humans into lurid display. A black marble alter stone, its surface heaped with ashes and bone fragments, squats before a 10' tall statue. The sculpture depicts a very pregnant, but otherwise shapely naked woman who wields a kukri in each taloned hand and has a long reptilian tail, birdlike feet, and the snarling head of a three-eyed jackal with a forked tongue. the left kukri flickers with a fiery orange light while the right one glows with a cold blue light.
Selena Magnimar |
Noticing that Lyrie has disappeared Selena give Orik a shrug of her shoulders. It looks like she has left. I am sorry for your sake but perhaps it was better this way for you. I do feel sorry for your loss still and wish you the best as soon as we leave this place. Anyways are we ready to clear out the temple? I will be right behind you all.

Go ahead and give me perception checks to see if you can act in the surprise round with a DC 15. Those that can, remember surprise is Move or Standard action only, not both.
Selena Magnimar |
I believe so Tunder as yours lasted for 4 minutes. Miri's only lasted for 1 minute so I am not sure how much time is left for her. 2 rounds maybe?
perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Unless she runs off due to the braying Selena will target the hound that Miri is approaching and try to aid her in her defense to get around the beast for a flank.

Mirela Malvo |
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Heeding Barek's warning, Mirela darts her eyes about the temple to locate their prey. One plainly in the north corner, another better hidden to the south. Moving past Barek quietly, Mirela motions towards the Yeth Hound hidden to the south while silently mouthing the words that one.
Stealth roll: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Mirela will stay back and out of sight for now. Ideally Barek will be able to call it out from off the wall, so Mirela can flank it.
DM DoctorEvil |
Chapel of Lamashtu - Surprise Round
Still horrified by the temple and its obscene depictions Seldon is unaware of the hound threat.
Mirela spots both and immediately drops into a crouch trying to stay hidden in along the shadows of the wall as she advances to the south side of the hideous temple.
Pointing out the hound on the northern alcove, Orik sheathes his sword, stepping backward slightly to take a better shooting angle.
From the southern Alcove, a Yeth Hound appears about 6' off the ground. It growls in anger, it's black teeth bared and hackles raised. Suddenly it raises its ugly head and releases another loud baying sound that sends tremors through all that hear it.
In the northern alcove, the hound flies forward slightly, and takes a defensive posture.
All PC's must make a DC 12 Will save vs fear or be panicked (ala Tunder) for 2d4 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7 rounds. Total Defense for northern hound this Surprise Round. Will I have Selena and Tunder's Actions, they need to make the Will save before they can get their shots off. Barek up also. Everyone roll Will Saves, please.

Will Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Barek joins the hound, howling with it in mockery. "Ohroooo!" The fighter rushes the southern hound and leaps up onto the upper dais. He stands at the edge, facing the floating Yeth hound.
Acrobatics, take 10: 10 + 4 = 14
Mirela Malvo |
Edit: Sorry, I just realized I jumped the gun before Selena and Seldon... but I don't think it'll matter, the Hounds won't be able to act before Mirela goes again, so this will still be my next round action after Seldon goes.
Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Undeterred by the unnatural howling, Mirela grins wickedly as Barek sets up the perfect opportunity to strike. Making a break for the stairs, Mirela attempts to leap behind the Hound and strike.
Acrobatics, moving through threatened area: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Rolling to her feet, Mirela gracefully spins around and stabs at the Yeth Hound from its flank.

Don't worry, I've been saving my other remove fear spell for you in case this happened, Tunder. Just need to wait and see where you wind up.
DM DoctorEvil |
Chapel of Lamashtu - Surprise Round - concluded
Barek braves the bone-chilling howl of the yeth hound once again, and moves up, leaping atop the platform at the far end of the monstrous chapel.
Throwing down his crossbow once again, the terror overcomes Tunder and he rushes for the door and the way out as quick as his dwarvish legs can take him.
Since this Surprise Round, he can 5' step to the door, then spend a move action to open it. Tunder should be right inside the chapel with the door open at the end of this round.

4 Selena (panicked 7 rounds)
Mirela finishes her move rolling out of the way of the snapping jaws of the hovering yeth hound. As everyone one watches, the Varisian leaps up, now flanking the pooch. She stabs hard with her rapier, finding a weak spot and the yeth hound is hurt bad on the first stroke.
Seldon is up next for the heroes. With a fleeing Orik then the action drops down to the bad guys.
Seldon Swiftheel |
"Not this time!" Seldon. "Daro! Daro e'Desna! Courage, Tunder! Shake it off!"
Dropping the expended scroll and nocking an arrow, Seldon steels himself for combat.

Chapel of Lamashtu - Round 1 - continued
Reading a scroll aloud, Seldon is able to magically restore courage to the run-away dwarf before his stubby legs can take him too far away.
Throwing the chapel doors open wide, Orik rushes out the door only to be outpaced by the fleeing Selena.
Moving slighty to the north, South Hound escapes the flanking position and bites at the bare-knuckled human fighter. But again the jaws snap shut on air.
Racing down from his lofty position in the northern alcove, the other hound charges at the cleric of good, crushing his arm in his fangs, and knocking the priest to the floor.
South Yeth Bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
North Yeth Bite, charge: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 2 = 23
Dmg: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 5) + 4 = 12
Trip attempt: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
I have Seldon with 12 hp remaining but that may not be right. He is however prone with the dog atop him. Seldon also needs a DC 14 Will save or be shaken for 1 round. Barek and Tunder up to finish the round. Tunder dropped his weapon when panicked, so he'll have to make a Move Action to pick up if he wants it.
Tunder Stonepeak |
Way back in December, Tunder made a point of making sure he didn't lose his beloved crossbow. I'd still need to reload it though.

"No, Seldon. This is what I do. And you can be of the most help staying in the back and looking for trouble while staying quiet yourself." He settles his gear and takes the time to tie his crossbow to his waist in case he has to drop it. Then, Tunder goes into the hidden door.
