Are we still in combat? or are they pursuing?

Dang wish I had noticed this before but a magus with four feats could inflict panicked at lv 9 by using bladed dash. Add in hexes, riving strike, a sicken weapon and rime frost touches...so many save debuffs.

Don't be afraid to up the ante if things seem too easy for them. Remember that annoying orrery-angel? I added him because you guys were clearly too strong for the module as it was written.
Add another paladin level or a couple of aristocrat levels to the boss, throw in more low-level soldiers running around, you name it. Ballentyne should be a challenge, and at the end they should feel they've earned the Dark Lord's favor.

So that was exciting.
It looked like they were doomed to fail, barely any points when it got exciting
They had taken out Varining really early, then they set the whole place on alert by murdering the Dwarf in his sleep, and almost getting caught.
That promoted the play to be cancelled, which ruined days of work by the Bard. They did manage to poison the stew (and fantastic dice rolling for them lead to a vast majority of the garrison being poisoned.)
They also managed to get the duel between the captains to start and took them out. Then, again due to great RP and dice rolling they managed to, at the same time, have one player take out the Magister (got a surprise and won init and did max damage with two spells and dropped him), and Barnhold in almost simultaneous attacks.
The night before they had managed to CDG Mad Martin in the rookery with an invisible imp and another nat 1 save on my part.
More good dice and clever RP got Dunnigan to come check on the Magister. (high bluff, plus a nat 20 on bluff and nat one on sense motive) Other players had replaced the guards (one of them and even joined the guard, and got himself stationed at the gate). When Dunnigan turned to them and said "He's dead." they got to say "I know, and so are you." He lasted longer than he did with us, but not much. Then it was totally on. Alarms sounding all over.
They managed to fight their way to Barnhold and Crit him and his guards to death.
The only mistake was they wound up facing the lantern acrhons (Gestalt) and Havelyn together. That combo killed the Warpriest of Asmodeous, and almost killed the Ranger/Bard and the Sorcerer, before they finally put him down. Helped that Havelyn got 6 confirmed crits.
So the last 2 hours of play they went from failing the invasion to a total rout.
I added very little other than buffing up HP to match them.

MiniGM |

Oh yea we had a blast.
I was shocked they managed to turn it so quickly. But that's the dice for you. The war priest decided he didn't want to be raised and they are short on loot and he wanted to make a monk. So with that in mind I had a monk be captured and he has been sent of with Tiadora to be turned. So his new character is one that had been good up until now. So that should be fun.

I just made that up. Given a nice opportunity or if he fell out of grace Dren would have been happy to "dispose" of the little wretch.

The Judge probably dominated him and then used him to convince unsuspecting ladies to leave the protection of their homes so that the Judge could sample the local fair of the towns he passed through.

Do you have a gmail account? I can post it to my google account, but it is probably just as easy for you to create one and post it there. You get like 1GB of storage with a gmail account and it is pretty easy to link though it.
I can easily post it, it is just that should you want to edit it, you would have to give me another copy to upload each time you updated it.

The SRD says that the DC for identifying monsters is 10+CR or 15+Cr if it is a particularly rare monster like the tarrasque. Jax got a 22 on his Planes check for the "Shining singers"
Is that high enough to: 1) get a hint and/or 2) be allowed to guess OOC and get a confirmation? :D

I see the edit issue but, honestly, I don't think I'm going to edit it much -- maybe once, if there are a lot of comments on it. So after a week or a month I might submit a 2.0 version. That would be about it.
Whoever wants to host it, just send me an e-mail -- it's about a 15 page Word document. vormuir, in that strange land men call yahoo dot com.

Okay: thanks to Bref/Ulp/MiniGm, the Guide to the Diabolist is now available right here. Enjoy!

Awesome! If Jax bites it, I may end up making a blaster using Maleficium + Diabolist, had never seen those feats until you pointed them out. Cornugon smash + soulless gaze + any other damned feat makes for some fun full attacks on a full BAB character. Essentially panick them if you have at least 3 attacks.

Yeah, I think Soulless Gaze is crazy overpowered, myself. Inflict panic on enemies almost at will, bypassing SR and Will saves? Not sure how they slipped past Paizo editorial. (Perhaps they were busy playtesting the nerf on Crane Style, he said snidely.)

Jax Naismith |

Agreed. For the cost of two feats, combined with any number of other feats from the game, you can drop non-save skill-based panicks. Now, I think martial should have nice things. But no save is..ouch. Still, if you think about it, its not that bad. With Cornugon smash, they have to hit with a melee attack. Then they have to succeed at the Intimidate check (very easy if you try though). Next, they have to score multiple attacks. Then keep in mind how many things are immune to fear (Golems, oozes, elementals, undead, etc).
It costs, at minimum, 4 feats. If you want to be good at Intimidate checks, five or a trait(either adding Intelligence via a trait or strength via a feat since no melee person other than bard or swashbuckler are good at charisma). It should still have a will save attached but..its not like there aren't a slew of spells that ignore saves or ignore SR (Rimed frostbite for a no-save entangle + fatigue, Create pit for a no-SR remove target for several rounds and those are doable at level 3.)
Is it balanced? Probably not. Is it scarier than what magic can do? Not particularly.
In the hands of an anti-paladin though...its terrifying. They get that aura that ignores fear immunity :D

I am always here. Next two weeks are likely to be very busy as I got a big trial dropped in my lap which is going to take up more than a little of my time. NPC the Judge as necessary.
