"Doppelgangers? By dawn's light, first a crazy old hag trying to vivisect us or something, and now there's doppelgangers. What sort of nightmareish place have we found ourselves in?"
Turning his attention to the men in the barracks, he calls to them. "We only just now recovered our possessions and have no idea where we are! We have no proof our identities we can give you, I'm afraid; something has robbed our memories from us."
Theophilus Carter |
Theo pokes his top hatted head out the door, looks down the hall at the others, and then returns to his position.
He reaches into his pocket, producing his deck.
He begins to shuffle them.
Are we to be long then?
Vlad Mirwood |
Vlad sighs, he pulls a bolt from his quiver and cuts his hand. He holds it up to show the blood. I bleed red, do I not? And if you do the same then are we not both alive? Where we both not born into this world from a mother who carried us inside them, are we both not to die when we grow old or a monster shortens out jouney? If so the only thing keeping me alive right now is you not firing. How then can we tell you are not all monsters yourselves?
Kenderella Lefuriel |
"I think it's best if I stay out of this exchange... They are not going to get friendlier by seeing me. What are doppelgangers anyway?"
Kenderella Lefuriel |
"Why do you need three? Isn't one enough? Please?" Sounds Kendrella's voice from the outside. By her voice alone it's hard to tell that she's a monster.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Vlad Mirwood |
Vlad sighs, doppelganger are harder to kill than you think, good sir. How about this, you may take us and question us? I give myself up to any spells you wish to cast on me, as well as any forms of interrogation save for torture.
Turning to Ken, he explains to her... doppelganger are shapeshifters who take on the identity of others, replacing them completely.
DM Cuc |
We have seen too much death and destruction from monsters, shapeshifters, and gods know what else to be able to trust just anybody. Bring us back 2 dead doppelganger's and we will reconsider whose side you are on. There are some to the north that you probably could take out, as if you didn't know know that...
Kenderella Lefuriel |
"Where is north? I'm afraid I'm not terribly familiar with the layout of this building." She turns to the others and says in hushed tones. "So, should we try to fight those to the north, or try to avoid them? The one we fought already was a though fight and now we won't have the half-orc to help us."
Theophilus Carter |
Theo looks up from his card game.
It appears that we have two choices: accept or not to accept?
He looks around at the confused group.
I suggest that we go whichever route leads out of this facility. If that means taking the easier route?
Dervak |
About that half-orc...
The air is silent as you look around the courtyard. An eerie, unearhtly scream can be heard from the room that you were just in, followed by an unmistakable roar from a Half-Orc.
Anybody who turns around can see a otherworldly light flashing from the chute.
The sounds of battle continue to echo down the chute, then abruptly cease.
Jayson Sunfyre |
"I have a feeling that none of us have ever seen a doppelganger before. What do they look like? I'm assuming is you are fearful of us being them they can assume other forms."

Rinn Laddel |
Rinn after thinking of the half orc begins to think about his kill her.
"Uuuh... Maybe we should go check that out... It is... Right behind us." says Rinn as she approaches the chute weapon leveled at the entrance.
Dervak |
After a minute or two, a new sound comes up the chute. A screeching, as of metal being dragged across stone. And a recurring THUD as something lurches upwards.
Dervak comes into view, struggling to crawl up the chute. Or something that looks like Dervak. His wounds from fighting the nurse are still fresh, and he has some new wounds as well. His falchion is covered in some sickly yellow blood.
"Urrr... made it. What did I miss?"
Jayson Sunfyre |
Rinn is not the only one who reacts in shock and some horror at the ichor that covers Dervak's body.
"Theo does raise an excellent question...where, exactly, have you been? And what have you been doing?"
Dervak |
"How long has it been? You haven't gone far. A few minutes?
I couldn't walk up that pile of corpses. It felt too wrong. Ghastly. I do not wish to be any more of a monster than I am.
I tried to find another option. The demon said it was inconvenient and stormed off. You all followed, except for Vlad. I am not one to lead or persuade, so I did not try to convince you to stay. I did not want you angry at Vlad so I told him to go too. I kept moving corpses out of the way. I would not have willingly made that climb."
A shudder of revulsion passes through him.
"Then... I don't remember. I remember waking on the floor of the chute. I don't know how this happened."
He indicates a new jagged slash on the side of his neck.
"But these were from that hag, right?". He indicates the slashes across his stomach.
"If we must kill some... Double bangers... Do we know what they are or why they deserve to die? I may be able to fell one more enemy now that I have armor and sword."
Vlad Mirwood |
Vlad looks down at the bblood the orc is covered with. I do believe that is a doppelganger! And more proof we are normal! It bleeds yellow, we bleed red! Therefore proving we are not the monsters you fear! Vlad make his point by once again showing his cut on his hand.
Dervak |
Dervak looks at his falchion, confused.
"I don't know how that blood got there. I found my sword in the pile of arms and armor and it was clean then. Or do you say I am a dop-ill-gang-er?". He says the word slowly, trying to get it right this time.
Keep in mind that you don't know what Dervak fought with his sword. The blood on his tusks, from the fight with the nurse/hag/whatever, is not yellow. And Dervak's new wounds are bleeding red.
Theophilus Carter |
Theo takes a good look at the orc, casting a cantrip.
detect magic
I fear....mmm...perhaps a wrong turn of phrase...I must insist that we proceed ahead. This wasting time proving who we are idf utter foolishness, I say!
Dervak |
Nothing magical on Dervak. Yeah, I too would like to get going. I sent DM Cuc a message... hope he's still around.
