Dervak |
Dervak looks at the halfling. Looks strong, for being so small. Like little badger. But she has a Voice?
It never goes away, does it? Never leaves you alone.
He turns to look around the room for anything that could be used as a weapon. Even a club, though preferably something with reach until he gets some armor.
Perception Take 10: 10 + 5 = 15
Kenderella Lefuriel |
Kendrella is happy to notice Jayson's slight blush. He likes what he sees, he likes me. Somehow she's not uncomfortable by her state of undress, even if her large breasts are threatening to spill out from the leather bra holding them. Such a stare feels familiar somehow. She's much more unnerved by the blood covering her front. Before she can pursue her thoughts further she's rudely interrupted. ::He just wants to fornicate with you. Take advantage of his weakness to slay him with his pants down.:: I'll do no such thing. He's nice and we fought together.[/b]:: She retorts angrily.
She turns her attention back to the conversation at hand and hears something about a raven. "It's an eagle, not a Raven, Mr Carter." As she says that the eagle starts glowing, then fades away until it winks out of excistence. "I can only keep it here for a short while though. It's a lesser connection than to my other form."
The half-elf then turns to the man on the bench. "Again I'm sorry for my behavior earlier. Though it seems like she might have done just as bad things if we didn't deal with her. I wish I could make it up to you somehow. For now, let's do the best we can to deal with the situation. I don't remember anything of this place either. Perhaps you can tell us what an Asylum is? Are you familiar with the layout of the place? The more we know, the better we will be able to deal with things."
Seeing Dervak look around she comments. "Are there any items we can use to defend ourselves nearby? I guess we should search the room ourselves first."
Diplomacy (add +2 if potentially attracted): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
She helps Dervak look for useful items. As she does so, she mutters a guttural incantation under her breath, similar to the one she did to bolster Vlad earlier.
Perception with guidance: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
The pause in talking gives her time to think and notice things again and she's suddenly aware of how brutal she looks. "I'm all covered in blood. Is there somewhere I can wash or at least dry it off?" She also looks for something to use as a towel.
Kenderella Lefuriel |
She looks over at the half-orc while they are searching. "While I appreciate your offer to protect me, I can't just stand behind you when I got the power to help out. I couldn't live with myself if something bad happened because I didn't contribute enough." The voice in her mind doesn't agree of course. ::Let them die! Use them as meat shields and delight in their pain!:: If you are going to delight in any pain, at least let it be that of our enemies.
Then she nods to Jayson. "You are right though Jayson, best to wait in order to spare the orderly. Thanks for the suggestion."
Rinn Laddel |
Rinn responds to dervak with a gesture to the brutally stabbed nurse.
"Don't know if voices are my biggest concern if what he says is true, and if that's anything to go by... It probably is... "
"Anyways. We've some injuries, I think boarding up and preparing ourselves for a bit would be a good idea."
Stalling to make a deal eh? Not sure they'll go for it.
Vlad Mirwood |
Vlad introduces himself and turns to theo. They both have feathered quills. Vlad smiles smugly to himself and returns to the conversation. If we find weapons we would be much better deffended. Perhaps we could find our belongings?
DM Cuc |
Looking at Theo "Well the nurse had me before I knew what happened but when I came to she was around the corner of there," the man points the the south side of the room. I know it is not safe up there, so I beg you to help me, I don't want to die...." with that the man breaks down and starts to cry.
Dervak |
Dervak rips the nurse's small tool table apart. He grabs a leg from it to use as a club, and grips it in two hands. Then he advances with Rinn to the corner on the south side of the room.
Theophilus Carter |
Theo nods sagely, smiles at the man, and pats him gently on the head.
He stands and stretches.
I wonder if I may locate my items around here?
The top hat wearing gentleman begins to search the room.
taking 20 for 25 perception.
Jayson Sunfyre |
Jayson shuts his eyes and draws in a slow, deep, focusing breath. No, Jayson. No. Stay with it, man. Geez, why is it that seeing a mostly-naked pretty girl suddenly makes you forget that you're nearly naked yourself, stuck gods-know-where...get your head back in the game. he chided himself.
"I don't think we're going to have much luck searching in here..." he began, turning his head away. "Don't be afraid. We'll figure this mystery out together, and panicking will do no one any good. Tell me sir, are you in the same position as us? What do you remember of before now?" Anything beyond your name and maybe a few talents or skills you may possess?" he asks, though he isn't looking at the man when he asks these questions. Rather, he is looking for a door out. If he finds one, he tests it to see if it's unlocked; if it is, he opens it just a crack, taking a peep outside the door to see what is outside the room.
Kenderella Lefuriel |
Seeing the group split up worries Kendrella. She rushes after Jayson before he can finish opening the door. She puts a gentle and soft hand on his shoulder to hold him back. "We should stick together. With dangerous things like that around we don't want to get caught in combat far away from the others."
Jayson Sunfyre |
Jayson looks over as Kendrella puts her hand on his shoulder, then glances back over to her. For the first time he is struck by the realization that she is his equal in height...a very tall woman, to be sure.
"Hmm...I suppose you are right. No point checking outside until we are all ready to advance. Especially if there are dangers about that we are not yet prepared for." he answers, releasing the door. "Thank you." he offers with a smile, then returns to the other stranger in the room. "What say you, Mr. Campre? You say you were once an orderly here...what else can you tell us about this 'Briarstone Asylum'? Anything you can divulge will be helpful."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
DM Cuc |
As the group rounds the corner they see a cold, iron furnace hunkers in the corner of the basement, its four-foot-square door gaping half open. Nearby sprawls a heap of gory clothes and other dubiously flammable trash. As Theo beings to look closer he sees several items of gear, equipment, and weapons. Also as Theo is piliging through the debris he finds an extremely nice viol, albeit it is missing the bow, it does appear to be in remarkable condition. (All your gear is sprawled throughout the debris.)
Mr. Campre looks at Jayon with heavy eyes "Well I havn't been here too long, but I could provide directions as we walk around. But I am afraid I am too tired and hurt to be up and moving at this time, and I am not good in a fight," he replies with a weak grin.
Jayson the door you started to try was unlocked, just FYI.
Theophilus Carter |
Theo picks up his belongings.
He then disappears back to his cell.
A few moments later, the dapper looking gentleman returns fully decked out in his previous finery.
Well now, I do feel a bit better.
Theo wears a large top hat with a hatband reading "In this style 10/6". This is the hat's price tag, indicative of his trade, and giving the price in pre-decimal British money as ten shillings and six pence (or half a guinea).
He dresses in flamboyant, but impeccable finery. The color combinations seem to be just off; from his brown suede top coat to his black and grey pinstripped pants to his multi-colored socks;and from his bird and flower printed ruffled shirt to his bright orange-dyed mop of hair. The style also seems just late of fashion.
I wouldn't mind a bit of time to pursue my cards.
Rinn Laddel |
After getting dressed Rinn is dressed in leather armor with a worn badge on the front. Her Daggers and Fachaurd seem to be of dwarven make as well as the studds in the leather.
"Hm... Good fit... Really good fit. But why was I carrying this?"
Rinn hefts the polearm that's appropriately sized for her.
"I don't even know how to use it..."
Kenderella Lefuriel |
"What's the purpose of the asylum? What was your job here? I've never heard of such a place before, or if I have. I don't remember it." Kendrella says with a gentle smile to the orderly.
She hears the commotion from around the corner and looks to Jayson. "It sounds like they've found something interesting. Let's go check it out. Thankfully it doesn't sound like battle at least."
Kendrella walks around the corner and starts looking around the things. There she discovers some badly torn clothes, hardly more than rags. "I'm sure these are mine... But why are they so badly ripped to pieces? Wearing them would be more a hindrance than a help." She rips of a rag and starts during off the blood from herself. "I guess I can at least use them for something useful."
She looks over the other things and find several scrolls. ::Rejuvenation scrolls! they'll only work for my form though. Just another proof that my form is superior.:: Kendrella comments on them to the rest. "These scrolls can be used for healing, but sadly only for my other form, so it won't be any use for any of you. Another reason why I should stay up front and protect you though, since I can recover from damage."
In the end Kendrella ends up cutting away the ruined legs of her pants to leave her with a pair of short tattered shorts and does a similar thing with a jacket to leave her with an armless vest with a deep cleavage. The end result is quite striking, despite her clothes being torn, they do perfectly show off her long slender legs and her flat stomach. The half-elf does find a sturdy belt to hang various pouches and sacks from. She also finds a long spear and three javelins which she somehow manages to strap to her back.
"How long do you need Theophilus? I don't want to stay here longer than necessary, but if it can help us face what's out there it might be worth it."
Does Theo not have prepared spells? I guess we should stay here one hour then...
Dervak |
Dervak hefts the falchion found in the pile. It seems oddly familiar. He must have trained with such a weapon often enough that his limbs remember how to swing it, though he can't recall who taught him.
There is also a set of scale armor that fits him well. As he is putting it on, you can see thay he is pained by the deep gash across his stomach.
I can recover from damage as well, Kendrella. Give me a couple of days and I will be healed. But I am ready to fight now.
He also grabs a few javelins. Dervak then picks up a fur pouch, apparently of Kellid make. It sounds full of coin, and is festooned with feathers, shells, and small charms of various kinds.
Kenderella Lefuriel |
Kendrella lets out a soft laugh. "Ah no, not like that. Anyone could do that. I mean like instantly, like magic. Like Jayson did earlier. With these scrolls I can heal the wounds of my other form so they dissapear at once."
Theophilus Carter |
I didn't prep any, because I figured we wouldn't have remembered.
Theo smiles at Kenderella.
Alas, my dear, I need to study my cards for an hour, so that I might gleam my tricks from them.
With a tip of his hat, he reenters his cell to study.
Rinn Laddel |
"Well then, I have something similar to foucuse on for a bit."
Rinn Plops down on the cold hard floor and begins to slip into a light trance.
"Alright... Let's do... This."
Heh, heh, heh... Well then... Let's make a deal eh?
Rinn nods off for roughly an hou, less something jostles her.
[Ooc]Rinn is attempting to channel a champion spirit. The recent battle qualifies this as a place of violence right? (Let alone the grizzly experiments that the nurse was performing on LIVE subjects)
Jayson Sunfyre |
Hearing the call of the others, and seeing Kendrella already heading that way, Jayson follows quickly after. As soon as he sees the gear, he recognizes it as his, from the backpack to the various sundry bits that were in it. And the scimitar.
The moment his fingers close around the weapon's grip, it feels familiar to him. The world falls away and he is alone with his blade. He momentarily steps away from the others, giving himself a bit of space, before he shuts his eyes. It doesn't matter if he can't remember. His muscles do. For a few minutes, he works through a short kata several times, the forms and motions so familiar to him that, even with his eyes closed, he easily completes them, the scimitar flashing through the air with increasing speed. The dance finally ends with a flourish of movement, the weapon in whirling in a circle around him before bringing it down in a slash; not one that implies great physical force, but that is also clearly meant to be a finishing blow.
He stares down at the blade, the dull sheen on its surface a old comfort. A moment later, the trance he had dropped into snaps and he suddenly remembers where he is. S-sorry...just...came back to me, all of a sudden. The steps. I don't think I could do it in a fight right now, but...if I keep practicing, maybe I'll eventually be able to use it in a fight."
Vlad Mirwood |
Vlad finds the crossbow that fits so well in his grip. once he has determined what is his he picks it all up. he holds up a gold-sack, and jingles the contents. he opens it up and sees the twenty silver pieces within, be counts them to make sure, and somehow he knows none are missing. He picks up the two quivers... one holding a set of silvered bolts, while the other had normal bolts. He pulls the Cetus over his right hand and places the mace at his belt, before putting the crossbow in its holster. He adjusts the leather armor over his body, before donning the trench coat among his things. All across the coat are symbols and scripture. It has no magical effect, but it's enough to make a vampire balk.
With that he quickly pulls out his holy text and reads the all too familiar first lines.
So, he says, I'm all set, i may have to ask for more magic, but my skills lie not is magic, but in my aim.
He quickly uses one of the blades on his Cetus to cut the tip of one of the fingers off of the woman, at the knuckle.
Kenderella Lefuriel |
Kendrella smiles at Jayson's dance. "I think it's beautiful. I wish I was able to fight in a style as beautiful as yours." ::Wasteful effort. Just rip them to pieces in the most efficient way possible. That's the best way to fight::
"The more you practice, the better you'll understand and be able to use it." ::Our connection now is weak. It could be so much stronger if you used it more. We would be much more powerful and aligned. Kendrella shudders with a mixture of emotions, apprehension, guilt, fear, but also a desire for power, to be able to protect herself. "That's true for all of us. The more we use them the better we'll be able to use our powers and abilities. Like they are doing right now." She nods towards the meditating halfling and the man studying his cards. "Though for me, reading cards or meditating isn't the way to go. I need practice." She doesn't know how she knows, but the words does ring true in her ears.
Planning to transform before we head out. Give me a heads up before taking things outside.
Jayson Sunfyre |
The pale-skinned man flushes again at the positive attention, clearing his throat. "Thank you...very much." he replies. "You're right...the best way to start recovering what we've lost is to figure out what skills we have and then use them. Simple, maybe, but the best solutions often are." he answers.
"So it seems we are decided, then. We wait until Theo and Rinn are prepared, then we get to work figuring out where, and who, we are."
DM Cuc |
Rinn the whole asylum would be considered a place of violence for you to channel the champion spirit.
Mr. Campre looks at Kenderella "I have been here for several years and I am a simple orderly, I help take care of the patients, ensure their safety, help out where needed. As far as the function, Briarstone houses individuals who suffer from ranges of mental illness, though most patients do not stay long term, although we have some who do stay long term. Since it sounds like we are staying for a little, would it be okay if I rested, I am so very tired..."
Theophilus Carter |
An hour later, Theo stands up, places his cards in his pocket, jingles his spell component pouch and heads out to meet with the others.
Well then, what now?, he says with a grin.
Kenderella Lefuriel |
Heal to check condition of old man: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Kendrella offers a gentle smile of understanding. "Yes, rest mr, Campre. You deserve it. No one should have to go though what you did." ::That was nothing. He's still alive and got all his limbs. If I was the one doing what I wanted with him, he would be ripped open and torn to shreds.:: Don't say such things. We don't want to rip up the poor man. Kendrella is incredulous of the suggestions of the voice in her mind, but she did experience the ferocity unleashed at the nurse earlier firsthand so she's not sure what she should believe.
Kendrella spends the waiting time talking to the others and trying to get to know them. It's a difficult process though, as they don't know much about themselves except some of their skills. "As you already saw, I can summon creatures to my aid, like that pony and eagle and a few others. I can't use that when I take the monsterous form though. I also know a bit magic. A protective spell that works almost like armor. Do any of you need such protection, or do you have armor of your own. I can also create a large pool of grease, to make our enemies slip and slide, or drop what they are holding. You already experienced my guidance Vlad, a small boom that can help with nearly any task. Hmm, what else is there?"
She bites her upper lip as she ponders. "Oh yeah, I got a couple spells that can help discern magic. One would think I would remember having discovered magic with it, but I actually don't, yet somehow I still know it works. Lastly I know how to magically send whispers back and forth over distance. That can be a fun and useful trick."
"Enough about myself. What about you guys? Do you know any magic? Or perhaps your skills lie in another direction? If we are going to fight together it'll be useful to know the kind of styles each of us employes." Kendrella looks around at the others slowly as she talks, testing to see how they'll react to her prying.
More to come (transformation), but I don't really have time to finish it right now. Sorry
Rinn Laddel |
Rinn snaps awake a moment after Theo finishes with his cards. A disembodied laugh can be heard coming from the waking Halfling as she jumps from the floor and yelps, taking a guarded stance.
"W... Well... That's that then! Rinn brushes her bottom off, clearing the dust from the floor from her backside.
"Hope its enough, damn creten drives a hard bargain"
Rubbing the side of her head and neck to clear the aches from sitting in the same position to long.
"If I become... Not me, later on. Be careful."
Rinn starts with one point of influence she can gain more influence in order to add 1d6 to any d20 roll, even if she already know the result. If she ever reaches five inluance she losses control of her body to the spirit that is granting her her powers.
Rinns current spirit

Vlad Mirwood |
Vlad lifts his holy symbol. I can burn sinners... or power myself with judgment for the sins of my foes. I also have some minor spellcasting, but not too powerful.
Theophilus Carter |
Walking in on the end of the half-elf's question, Theo listens as each pronounce their unique talents.
If we are once again confounded by such viciousness, than we should return in kind, I say!
He inclines his head in the direction of the ladies.
I, myself, just have a few tricks to bare.
He winks.
Kenderella Lefuriel |
Seeing that Rinn gets up and Theo comes out of his cell Kendrella takes a deep breath and says with trepidation. "I guess it's time to see what's out there. But before we get that far. I should transform, so I better help to protect you all."
She gets up and walks over to the butchered corpse of the nurse. She uses some of the nurse's clothes to draw a bloody circle on the floor. ::Maybe not strictly necessary, but it'll make my power greater after so long apart, make our connection stronger.:: Kendrella bends her head down and throws her arms around her as if hugging herself and starts chanting.

A chill runs down the spine of those present as they feel the power in Kendrella's words. On her part, she feels as if something is coming, something scary and dreadful, yet warm and welcoming at the same time. She doesn't know if she should scream or weep, but there is no stopping the words once they have started.
Suddenly they stop, followed by an eerie silence. It doesn't take long for Kendrella's nubile body to twist and contort to the unrecognizable. Her skin grows darker as it gets covered with plates. Through cracks in the plate it's possible to see a glow almost as live flame. Horns grow out from her head and jagged ridges run all along her spine and arms. She grows up to well over seven feet tall with a large tail running down behind her making her seem even larger.
"Finally I'm free! Now let's go find someone to rip to pieces." Comes a guttural voice out from the monstrous form.
"NO!" Comes the very determined voice of Kendrella, while it's quite a bit darker than it was moments before it's still clearly recognizable as her and it seems quite out of place in the massive body she now inhabits. "We'll go out to see what's going on and we'll protect the others. First I'll cast a protective spell on myself though. We shouldn't fly heedless out there."

Transformed with mage armor and ready to go out the door.
Kenderella Lefuriel |
I'll gladly take the point.
Rinn Laddel |
I'll follow right behind Kenderella. Reach weapon and all, probably one of the best spots to be with reach.
"Your the boss Hun!" Rinn says with a very forward tone, almost like a bar patron coming on to a barmaid. She then shakes her head.
"Lead the way Kenderella... But be careful." in a much softer tone.
Jayson Sunfyre |
Jayson takes a step backward when he sees Kendrella's alternate form, forcing down the chill of fear that ran down his spine at the new voice that came from her...this devilish thing that seemed to have a penchant for ripping things apart.
And then her voice emerged from it...different, deeper and darker, but it was her. This realization bolstered him and he cleared his throat and nodded. "Monstrous form, indeed...though I guess now we know what makes your clothes get all shredded. Probably spend a lot of money on new outfits otherwise." he said, his tone cautiously jesting.
He stepped up next to her, his scimitar spinning once in his grip. "I'm not letting you go alone. We...all of us...will be stronger if we work together."
Theophilus Carter |
Theo deftly tosses a playing card through the air, deftly catching it and repeating the process.
He watches the half-elf woman transform with a nod.
Well, isn't that something!
He then cast a spell on himself and brings up the rear.
mage armor
Dervak |
Dervak looks over the beast, considering it.
He says nothing except Hmmm. Dervak appears not particularly concerned by the appearance of this demon. He hefts his falchion to walk beside Theophilus in the back.
DM Cuc |
A broad chute extends diagonally through one of this cellar’s half-crumbled stone walls. Beneath it lies heaped more than a dozen mutilated humanoid bodies. Nearby,a flight of rickety, wooden steps climbs toward the high ceiling—an escape none of the room’s current occupants seem capable of employing. The smell of rot and decay in the room is nearly overwhelming, and the buzz of flies hangs in the air.
Once in the room you notice that many of the dead bodies are wearing the same thing: a plain, white uniform that buttons in the front.
Map is updated.Just to save time, anybody who attempts to go up the stairs is greeted by a collapsed staircase.
Vlad Mirwood |
Vlad watches the woman transform. "I wonder why I feel as if that is hardly the strangest thing I've seen... no matter, I'm sure you have more physical skill than I. Vlad draws his crossbow and loads a bolt, he then draws his mace in his left hand. He follows the others, near the middle of the marching order.
Theophilus Carter |
Taking a step toward the wooden staircase, Theo stops as it collapses.
Hmmm...problematic.
He then casts a simple cantrip on himself.
guidance
Theo peers at the group of bodies piles on the floor.
He waves his hand, casting a spell.
detect magic
He searches the chamber.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Dervak |
How high off the ground is the chute?
If we move these bodies out of the way, I can lift you into the chute, then climb up after you.
It could bring a curse upon us to walk on the faces of the dead if we did not kill them ourselves.
He looks at the bodies, but I assume they have claw marks, suggesting to Dervak that he was not their killer.
Kendrella's demon, however...
Vlad Mirwood |
Vlad looks at the bodies and frowns. If it's undead you worry about, then burn the bodies as we leave... I'm taking my trinkets, however.
Vlad takes the pinky bone from several of the bodies. He doesn't say why... perhaps it is just some strange ritualistic thing...
@GM: FYI- the finger taking is for the bones. It's an obedience thing for pharasma. I'm assuming anyone who wants to can make a religion know check to figure that out... likely 15 for the DC...
Dervak |
You serve the Lady of Graves, true? Is it not bad luck to step on the faces of the dead? I mean, if they were not an enemy you slew. Of course you step on their face then. But either way it is an insult to their spirit. Is taking the finger bones good luck?
By the make of his belt pouch, you might guess that Dervak has spent some time in the Realm of the Mammoth Lords. He seems to have picked up some superstitions or taboos.
Jayson Sunfyre |
Gaah...I hate the post-eating monster...
Pinching his nose and briefly wrinkling it in distaste of the smell, Jayson stares at the decaying bodies with a mix of horror, disgust, and pity.
I'm not sure what these people did, but I wonder if it warranted such pitiable ends to their lives." he said aloud. He looked at them with trepidation, as if trying to decide if approaching would them decide they weren't quite so dead after all. In a moment's decision, he set his jaw and, after one final look-over...
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
...he walks over to them and gives the bodies a good look, trying to see if he can determine their cause of death or how long they'd been laying there.
Heal: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
DM Cuc |
The chute is 8 feet high and there are a LOT of bodies. There are enough bodies that you are not required a climb check to get to the chute.
Jayson since I am assuming you have to touch the dead bodies, roll a DC 12 FORT save or contract filth fever. Filth fever has an onset of 1d3 days therefore you will not even know you contracted it and neither would anybody in the party.
ype disease, injury; Save Fortitude DC 12
Onset 1d3 days; Frequency 1/day
Effect 1d3 Dex damage and 1d3 Con damage; Cure 2 consecutive saves
