I'm hoping my effective 23 beat his CMD by 5 or more so he's still entangled. That would mean he's still entangled and has an effective -4 to his CMD, so hopefully this will work.

Sloth Gaius says simply, dropping the whip and running forward, jumping closer to grab the caster.

With my height and only a 15 ft ceiling, I'm assuming a DC 12 is enough (jump 3 feet up)

Run 10 ft, then jump: Acrobatics high jump: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21

Mid air Grapple attempt vs CMD: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

I didn't see a will save, so did he or did he not save against the previous turn's evil eye of -2 to AC? Will 11 (1 turn if saved, 4 (not 5) turns if failed)

Pyron will use his last first-level spell slot and cast protection from evil on everyone. If he saved, then Pyron will use evil eye again for (-2 to AC) and will cackle (so Will 11 to save for 2 turns instead of 5 turns).

However, if the main boss failed the Will save, then Pyron will cast Bless, giving himself and all allies within a 50-foot burst, centered on Pyron a +1 bonus on attack rolls and on saving throws against fear affects. Pyron would also cackle extending the evil eye (-2 to AC) effects from the prior turn from 3 more turns to 4 more turns.

Makes sense flavor-wise, but RAW I'm not sure that works. If so I definitely would've done that, and would've been rewarded for my boldness with a Natural 20. ;-) I actually think my 10 might hit, so it might be moot, as pathetic as that is. A hexed, entangled, small foe targeting CMD. And I think Pyron's Bless goes before me, which could be the difference.

Cool bananas! You're probably right about RAW. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure a giant spider has a special ability that allows it to pull you in when it entangles you in a web, so I doubt you could do it with just a whip without something similar. I just had a certain picture in my head is all. ;-)

Speaking of whips did you know Gaius that Calistrian Combat Style for rangers is about whips?

Wednesday and Tolenn team up to put on a clinical display of 'how to make a dead dude dead again', as they both slice into the conjured zombie, giving it a quick end. It moans as it sinks to the floor, maybe in thanks.

Will save vs stink eye: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20

Pyron, seeing that the little man was shrugging off the effects of his hex, hexes again, this time laughing madly along with it.

Will save vs mad laughter: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14

You wouldn't think it, as the little guy starts to laugh along with Pyron, but he's a bit disturbed.

Zart summons an eagle ally to harry the derro. It's attacks are futile, though its second claw comes dangerously close to sinking past the little man's defenses.

The summoner then steps forward and heals the burns Raamanti initially suffered upon entering the room. Rejuvenated, the eidolon again swings at the little man. The creature, still trying to work his way out of the whip, isn't as quick to react this time, and is smacked squarely with the hammer.

Gaius casts a spell on the creature, who attempts to shake it off. Gaius believes that his spell had no effect on the creature as he takes a short running leap at the man. While gaining enough height, he grabs the man's legs, but slides down them, losing his grip. Furthermore, the whip disengages and falls to the floor.

Overcome SR?: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

The little man flies away from the inquisitor and Raamanti, provoking an attack from the eidolon. Raamanti's aim is again true, but his hammer bounces off the magical shield around the creature.

Raamanti AOO: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

Seeing Raamanti strike with his polearm and Tolenn fire her crossbow, and without reach or range himself Daud merely flails his right arm at the creature. "Will you just die already!" As blood started to drip from his nose his anger at the creature was overcome by his anger at his own uselesness in this confrontation. All that inner heat and anger and surging blood seemed to passes from his body to concentrate solely in the arm he was shaking at the creature, blood pooling beneath his nails and seeping out.

Hmm, that's cool. My archetype trades out combat style feats, though. :-(

Before I get permanently blinded (which is not fun at first level, hehe), just a quick metagame comment--I know I dropped the whip, but that shouldn't affect the duration of the "dirty trick". So if the 23 beat his CMD by 5 or more, he'd still have been entangled for both my attack and his spell he cast on me (which I believe would prompt a caster check). If you were aware of that and the move still stands, then...

For real, though, Blindness is permanent. If we don't take this guy alive and beat on him (nonlethal) until he removes the spell, then I don't see any other way for me (at least) to go fight Rolth.

Remember when that little derro said that Rolth wasn't here? What if he was speaking the truth? I f•cking hope so, because if this guy isn't the boss... we're f•cked. May be we're f•cked anyway... but if we survive (if!) we have the rest of the corpse, so it is time to flee.

Believe it or not, 23 did not beat his CMD by 5. He has a high dex, and quiet a few levels.

No map update at this point.

Tolenn takes out her crossbow and attempts to shoot the thing, but it dodges dexterously aside, the bolt not even hitting the invisible resistance.

The eagle also continues to try to harass the spellcaster, but without much effect.

Gaius rages on about the suffering he is going to put the derro through, and the creature seems a bit worried. Well, as worried as a person can get at being threatened by a blind man.

Zart steps forward and casts a quick spell to help Raamanti's strike...

Which is true, smashing the enemy right in the face. The creature looks stunned, blood pouring out of his mouth and nose, but manages to carry on.

The little man flies 10 feet to the west, again provoking from Raamanti as he seeks to cast another spell. Raamanti's efforts are not nearly as heroic against a foe trying to back away, and he misses badly.

AOO: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Raamanti gambles as to their relationship, secretly praying that this thing is actually the master, and the necromancer they are destined to face is somehow less powerful.

Tolenn comments on Wednesday's newly-seen trick as she winds her crossbow to get another bolt in place.

The eagle, being the heroic bird that it is, is actually able to penetrate the derro's defenses, being rewarded with an accompanying cry of pain.

Zart again casts a minor spell to make his eidolon more smash-a-baddie friendly, which Raamanti uses to great effect, sending another solid swing into the creature's gut.

Gaius casts a spell to make him far more effective a blind combatant, if only he knew where the derro was...

Pyron turns his attention to other facets of the derro's defenses, steadily debuffing him as he cackles crazily.

The derro, seeing the effectiveness of Raamanti's hammer, takes a defensive pose, casting another spell.

Sorry all, rushed that last set of posts a bit. Need to leave in some contingencies!

If Tolenn can't fit, Zart will wait until she's in the room where the derro is and then cast enlarge person.

If the necromancer has moved beyond 30ft from the party (ie. the map isn't updated) then Zart and Raamanti will make a double move after the necromancer instead of their posted actions. Raamanti will specifically aim to move as far past him as possible while still threatening him, so he gets an AoO if he moves again (not that those have been us doing any good - my roll good has been thoroughly counteracted by DM Crispy's roll bad on AoOs!).

Also, I think the shadow eagle should have got an AoO. If that's the case, please roll for me GM. Don't forget the bless! 1d20+4 to hit, 1d4+3 damage (including bless).

Just waiting on Crispy to figure out where and when Tolenn can be enlarged...if she can :)

Unless wand activation is different, Enlarge Person is a full-round cast. So she can be enlarged at the start of your guys' next turn.

Belayed AOO Peck for the Eagle: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Raamanti continues to pursue the creature, barely able to keep up. He still manages to plant his hammer in the little man's face again, however.

Wednesday guides Gaius towards the derro while cracking the whip at it, managing to do one of those things well.

Gaius, under Calistria's blessing, fires his crossbow, the bolt lodging between the thing's eyes. It goes cross-eyed for a minute, then drops unceremoniously to the ground.

Okay then... if the enlarging did go off:

"Neat trick..." Daud quips to the much larger Tolenn, smirking approval at her current amazonian mode.

If not and/or afterwards:

Daud will go to inspect the now grounded magic man to see if he is dead and search for items before going to retrieve the rest of the shoanti.

It didn't go off, unless Zart just wants Tolenn to be huge, or Large, in this case.

Wednesday inspects the little man, and finds that he is indeed still breathing, but in pretty bad shape.

Noticing the breath Daud will unceremoniously drag the cretin over to Gaius and put one of the creature's arms into the blind man's hand. "He's alive, but just barely unless something is done." His voice is flat and completely filled with disinterest.

Perhaps you can get your sight back. Also, we can take this man back with us to the sergeant if the group agrees.

Re: Wand activation: I've played Pathfinder for ages can't believe no-one has disabused me of this notion until now. I've always played wand activation as a standard action, because they use the spell trigger method for activation (single word spoken to complete the spell). However there is indeed a special clause for wand activation that says, "If the spell being cast has a longer casting time than 1 action, however, it takes that long to cast the spell from a wand." Thank you for the info, DM Crispy!

"I seriously doubt we'd be able to convince this thing to cure Gaius's malady," says Zart sadly, "Even if it were so inclined, I doubt he'd have prepared a spell to undo his dastardly work. We will be able to get healing for Gaius at the Temple of Sarenrae, no doubt. Perhaps Field Marshall Croft will even have something to help him with.

"That isn't to say that we shouldn't wake this creature and question him, though," continues the Shadowcaller, "I for one am extremely curious to discover where Rolth is. I'm not sure if we have explored this entire complex yet, but I get the feeling that if Rolth were here, we would have found him in one of those last few rooms we saw*.

"I don't think healing him is a good idea, but if Gaius could let us use his smelling salts, we may be able to safely get some answers."

* Slight meta-game based on the room numbering and what designers always do with the room containing a four-post bed.

All that assumes he's stable. If not, we should spend a single low-power healing charge to sort that out.

Gaius' faith is rewarded with a satisfying thud as the bolt finds its mark.

I will get him to lift the spell. Just keep him alive, bind him, and bring him to me.

Maybe a lay on hands as that's less than CLW? But Blindness/Deafness is dismissible, so if I can intimidate him, he should do it. Assuming you guys comply with pissed-off-Gaius' "suggestions", and after asking Calistria again for guidance as the man is bound/stabilized...

Gaius grabs the unconscious form of the "man", holding the vial of smelling salts in the general direction of the thing's face.

Wake up, he snaps, like an annoyed mother trying to wake a reticent child. He pulls the creature in inches away, and demands: You will lift this curse now, lest I take my vengeance. I will start with your eyes, but the work will be messy without my own sight. One way or another, we will speak as equals when you tell me where Rolth is...

Wow, didn't realize it was "permanent" not "instantaneous"! Cool. Intimidate away!

While the interrogation goes one, Zart helps Raamanti load the body pieces on the cart, and to make them look as respectable as possible.
