Senja Kala
|
Str check, for entertainment's sake: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
Senja objects briefly to being held on to as they make their way through the swirling waters, preferring not to be treated like some incapable human child. He shrugs off Eva's hand, his eyes widening in alarm as he realizes he's about to be swept away! Before the current can make off with him, however, Eva grabs him with her other hand and gives him a stern schoolmarm look.
Although it hurts his pride, Senja nods his thanks and stays close by Eva's side as they move to the next door. At the door, he gestures impatiently for those in the front rank to open it.
| DM Carbide |
Just waiting to see who's going to open the door.
Kali Starr
|
I believe that's usually Kragnor. Kali has learned her lesson for the moment about being first when she can take less damage than the witch.
Kragnor Stonebreaker
|
Kragnor gets to the next door and opens it!
| DM Carbide |
The door opens easily, and on the other side there's a flooded hallway. It's currently empty.
Kragnor Stonebreaker

Once the party follow, Kragnor swims to the east, then south. Checking the next door for traps, he opens it when it is deemed safe, and everyone is ready to enter.

As Kragnor opens the door, water rushes into the room, carrying all with it!
DC 15 Swim check or DC 20 Reflex check to keep from being pulled into the room.

You can try a Reflex save to grab onto something, Eva.
Kali Starr

Swim: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Kali is surprised by the sudden current, but manages to grab the side of wall before being carried away by it.

Swim : 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
As Eva grabs hold of him, Senja startles and swims with surprising effectiveness against the current!

Kragnor is swept inward as the door open and just misses grabbing the door jamb as he is swept in!
| DM Carbide |
Kragnor and Eva go over the edge and into the pool! I just noticed that Asvald is far enough from the door that the current isn't too bad. Asvald, you can use that Swim check if/when you want to move closer.
The room looks like the other two observation tank chambers, but with a smaller platform around four feet over the surface of the water (or at least where it starts when you opened the door). The telltale blue glow of a portal sheds light through the water, making it easy to see the shadowy form that closes with Kragnor and Eva!

Before taking Kali's actions, I have a couple of questions. Do we need to make a Swim check to move into the room, or will the current still carry us inside? Also, would Acrobatics be effective to avoid an AoO or would you rule a swim speed is necessary?
| DM Carbide |
The current will carry you into the room without the need for a Swim check. However, if you want to attack the eel you'll have to make a DC 15 Swim check or attack at -2 for half damage, even with a piercing weapon. If you make the Swim check you can also attempt an Acrobatics check to avoid an AoO.
Kali Starr

Kali pulls out her potion of Touch of the Sea from her Handy Haversack and drinks it. She immediately begins to grow webbed hands and flipper-like feet. Indeed, she probably would look something like a seal in her true form.
Senja Kala

Senja holds himself in place and conjures a swirl of shadowy tentacles that rise up from the depths and attempt to grab hold of the giant moray!

I noticed the map hasn't been updated with Asvald's movement, I may need to adjust Kali's position depending on his current position and Eva's actions. If extra movement is necessary, I'm fine with foregoing the acrobatics check.
Acrobatics to avoid AoO: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
With her temporary flippers, Kali glides acrobatically through the water to avoid opening herself to attacks from the eel of unusual size. Once she's close enough to strike, she lands a critical strike with her weapon.

Senja Kala
|
Senja begins his dark laughter while conjuring a small ribbon of blackness between his fingers, which he sends swimming toward the eel. The sinuous shadow wraps itself around the massive eel's head, making it harder for the creature to avoid attacks.
Cackle to maintain Misfortune, use Evil Eye for -2 to AC. DC 15 Will save.
| DM Carbide |
Senja, given the current you'll have to spend a move action plus another Swim check keeping station, or be swept into the room.
Senja Kala
|
Okay, then I'll use a move action to cackle and also one to swim. Can I use the swim check to get to the adjoining hallway, where the current is less?

Or not.
| DM Carbide |
I'd forgotten that Kragnor's off in Aruba atm, so I'd better bot him.
Eva and Kali are able to do some more damage to the creature despite the resistance of the water to their slashing attacks. Kragnor and Asvald both miss. Senja maintains his hex, but is unable to keep from being pulled into the room and within reach of the eel. Despite the witch's impairing hex and the cover offered by Eva, the eel lashes out and savages Senja with its powerful jaws! Senja, take 17 HP. It quickly releases the wayang and bites at Eva, grabbing her and inflicting a terrible wound! Eva, take 20 HP, and you're grappled.

Kali's wakizashi is piercing or slashing damage, she would have used it to pierce for full damage last round.
With the eel otherwise engaged with trying to eat Eva, Kali swims around it to flank with Asvald. Once in position, she tries to impale it with her wakizashi.

Kragnor accepts Asvald's song, winds up, and hits the eel solidly. The eel goes limp in the water.

"Let's get out of here, gang," Senja says, flailing about in the deepening water and trying to make his way out of the room.
Swim: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
DM Carbide - it looks like we've covered this whole level, though I'm not sure what the story is with the doors that appear to lead nowhere, just outside the room we're in. Is there anywhere we haven't been, that we know of?
Kragnor Stonebreaker
|
Kragnor swims out of the room and back toward the corridor. "Follow me. I think that corridor continued south." He blurbs.
| DM Carbide |
What Kragnor said. I'll update the map to show that.
Asvald Bjornson

Asvald paddles after the dwarf.
What are the chances the next level is similarly flooded?
Eva Baldursdóttir

They wouldn't do that to us, surely...
...
... right?
Eva swims along with the others. Could I get 3-4 boops of CLW? Currently at 15/35. Thanks!
| DM Carbide |
Next level is flooded *and* 5' visibility for everyone except the monsters (and any PC with blindsight or tremorsense).
....
No, huh? Still too soon?
Kali Starr
|
Perhaps feeling guilty for all the free healing her companions gave her in earlier levels of the dungeon, Kali taps Eva once with her wand of Infernal Healing, then quickly follows behind Kragnor to take full advantage of her magical swim speed while it lasts.
Perception aid Kragnor whenever he stops to look at something.: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
41 charges left on wand of Infernal Healing.
| DM Carbide |
Kali, how long does your spell last? Remember that infernal healing doesn't act all at once.
Kali Starr
|
The potion only lasts a minute, if we wait for the fast healing to work completely, the duration of Touch of the Sea will be over. The fast healing was meant more as a supplement to someone using a CLW wand, but Kali will wait and tap Eva twice is no other healing is forthcoming.
