Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Svarog nodded as well, his face grim. "Hide Katrezra well, Sara. If The same people who killed Rodrik tried to murder us, little as we knew, they certainly would not hesitate to kill you, Katrezra." He paused a moment as another thought occurred to him.
"The apprentice who left - did she know Katrezra is here?"
DM Carbide |
Sara shakes her head. "Urnsul quit last week, and Katrezra didn't get here until late yesterday."
DM Carbide |
The half-orc seer smiles. "I shall certainly try." Sara looks like she's about to say something, but reconsiders and remains silent.
Is there anything you'd like to do to prepare for your visit to the Plague House?
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Considering its rep, maybe some antiplague, if such a thing exists? :P Svarog wouldn't mind some healing first, either. Other than that, I can't think of anything they might need that they could plausibly get.
Lidda Tosscobble |
Considering its rep, maybe some antiplague, if such a thing exists? :P Svarog wouldn't mind some healing first, either. Other than that, I can't think of anything they might need that they could plausibly get.
Lidda can only heal each of you once/day sadly. Maybe the dwarf?
Jarrek Everstand |
I was worried about the name, but if teenagers sneak off there to have private time I can't see it being plague ridden. On the other hand, antiplague and antitoxin are never bad things to carry around, if we have some extra money I've forgotten about.
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Svarog will try to bum some healing from the local church, citing the party's deputization.
Have a happy and safe New Year, everyone!
DM Carbide |
Katrezra is happy to provide you with some healing; his oracular powers grant him a few divine spells.
The ruins of the Plague House can readily be accessed through the main doors, and the NW corner has collapsed allowing you to get in that way. The easternmost section of the north wall has also come down, appearing to offer yet another way in.
Map is updated!
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Svarog grunted as they approached the Plague House. "I say we take the back entrance. Let's catch the bastards if we can. ...Think you can be quiet in that?" he asked Haftor, eyeing the dwarf's armor critically. "Just until we're set to catch them. Maybe we can bar the front doors with something," he mused, looking toward the building.
Anyone have lockpicks and want to try jamming the front doors?
Jarrek Everstand |
Jarrek smiles at Lidda. "Rodrik wouldn't have had to investigate much if everything was just sitting around in plain sight. But it doesn't hurt to go around to the back. I'm with you." The big man nods at Kira.
DM Carbide |
Kira and Lidda know that younger townsfolk have pretty much stopped coming out here in the last month or so; Jeska let slip to Kira that Cham Larringfass opened up one of the unused cellar storerooms as a hangout, and she'd heard that Rodrik put her up to it.
The Plague House is silent. After securing the main door as best as can be done, the party makes its way to the north corner. The pile of rubble there looks unstable, though. The west corner of the building seems to afford a more stable bit of debris to climb over. Past the collapsed wall, the rest of the room is in a similar state of disorder. There's a staircase to the northeast that seems to lead up to a loft area and a pile of fallen beams, jumbled bricks, and the like under the loft.
Kira Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Lidda Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Haftor Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Svarog Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
DM Carbide |
Moving with near-total silence, Lidda eels her way across the rubble, not disturbing so much as a stone. Though the rest of the party can't hear any trace of her movement, something else can...and does. A pair of multilegged horrors burst out from the pile of rubble and close with the halfling, biting at her before she can react! Lidda's aura of misfortune saves her, though, as neither of the creatures are able to hit her. Gaahhh...I roll a 2 and a 4 to hit. Lucky you!
Surprise round:
They closed.

longsword 2h: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
dmg: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Looks like that shifty rubble is tricky footing. :/
Jarrek Everstand |
"They're nothing but bugs! Let's squish this vermin!" He moves out of the way to let Lidda past him and places himself in between the huge insect and the others, his falchion flaring to life as he moves into battle.
5 foot step to switch squares with Lidda, swift action Arcane Strike.
Falchion: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 Uh, yeah, tricky rubble.

Kira's crossbow bolt glances off of the creature's chitinous armor. Haftor shoots a crossbow bolt over Lidda's head at the smaller centipede, but even dwarven surefootedness can't keep his aim steady and his bolt flies wide of the mark.

dmg: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Treating the rubble more like a mountainside of scree, Svarog gained a firm enough footing to strike at the nearer centipede successfully. He brought his longsword down on its carapace with both hands, a satisfied chuff of air escaping his nose.

Jarrek hacks at the larger centipede, his falchion blazing with arcane flame.

Haftor trundles forward and swings at the centipede, but misses as it dodges aside. Unfortunately for the centipede, it dodges directly into the path of Kira's crossbow bolt. The arthropod is still in the fight, though.
Round 3 (ongoing):

Svarog

Kira
Haftor

The wounded centipede tries again to bite at Jarrek, and misses again.

Back from the UK!
Haftor grunts in frustration at his lack of effectiveness so far in the fight. He takes another swing with his trusty warhammer.

Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Unable to reach the last insect, Svarog held himself ready, sword in a guard position, listening hard for any sign of their combat having stirred anyone within the Plague House.

Dodging and weaving, the centipede is unable to get a purchase on Haftor's armor with its powerful jaws.

Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Is the window a little farther along the wall broken, or otherwise open(able) enough to admit Svarog? He'll go look, since he can't reach the centipede at the moment anyway.
DM Carbide |
The windows are broken out. It's possible to reach the centipede through the closest window, but it will get cover. Svarog figures he can climb through the other one, with a bit of effort.
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Svarog cursed under his breath. This mindless vermin was ruining their chance at stealth. Pacing along the outside wall, he glanced through a broken window before crawling through, careful not to cut himself.
He moved about 30', but I'm assuming it takes a double move to get to the window and climb through. Please tell me if he still has any actions left.
DM Carbide |
It's a DC 15 Climb or Acrobatics check to get through the window and still have an action this round. Otherwise, you can act normally next round.
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Climb DC15: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 Woot!
I guess all he can do is close with the insect, but at least Jarrek and Haftor will get flanking bonuses. Did he see what's down the other side of those stairs? Or up the stairs, I guess.
Svarog climbed through the window without too much trouble, and moved to distract the giant vermin with cuts from his sword.

Kira Ebonhawk |
Kira quickly reloads the crossbow, pulling back the string with the crank-lever and laying another bolt into the crossbow before leveling it with her shoulder again, tracking the large centipede before she breathes out and squeezes the trigger.
Firing again :)
Attack: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 3 - 4 = 7
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Jarrek Everstand |
"Good thinking, Svarog! Now let's end this!" Jarrek takes another massive swing at the centipede and misses again.
Falchion: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 I'm starting to think his name is Everstand because all he does in a fight is stand there. Come on, dicebot!

wow. This is a truly epic series of dice failures. Fortunately it rolled just as poorly on its CRIT as Kira did on hers.
Seeing the dwarf get hurt, Lidda rushes to his aid.
