Lidda Tosscobble |
Started by the intrusion, Lidda screams, then tries to roll past the large man to escape out the hallway.
Casts Daze (DC 14) as she screams
acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
...well that sucks. Then again, if daze is successful, he can't act so I can just walk right past him...here's hoping.

Does Lidda see or hear anything once in the hallway? If not her first instinct is to run to the safety of her companions' room.

Lidda Tosscobble |
Is she blocking my way to the others' room, or is she the other direction? If the way to their room is clear, I'll bolt that direction. Here's an acrobatics check if needed to get past her.
acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Geez, my rolls have really sucked.

Kira is withdrawing from her assailant and moving to grab her real weapons. Kira isn't very good with her knife.
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Sorry, I didn't catch what weapon the assassin is using? What's peculiar about it?
"Beware, Lidda! Murderers! We're coming out!" Wondering why no one (besides Lidda) seemed to be reacting to their shouts and battle-sounds, Svarog used the last of his strength to strike at the woman who had stabbed him.

Lidda Tosscobble |
If there were any chance at all at it being even remotely effective I would've taken an AoO there. Oh well.
Lidda appears at the doorway in her nightgown looking startled just as the woman runs out of the room past her. "They're right behind me too!" Seeing her two companions are hurt, she runs into the room. Summoning her courage and fighting to recall the specific sort of twist in her gut she felt the day before, Lidda reaches out and touches Svarog's wound.
Cure Light Wound(hex): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
oh, for crying out loud. Well, better than nothing I guess.
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Whaaaat? You mean no one has Svarog's paranoid reflexes?! :P
With a nod of thanks to Lidda, Svarog barrelled out of the room as well, looking for further assassins. Brandishing his sword in both hands, he roared, "You are too WEAK to kill us! We will spill your blood long before you escape!"

"We'll get him for you, Lidda! This one isn't getting away! Come on!" In spite of his wounds, Jarrek bravely runs past Lidda into the hall to try to get to her room before her would-be assassin escapes.
Inspire Courage. +1 atk/+1 dmg, 4 rds left for day.
Hey, 2 more HP means he probably won't get killed in 1 hit from a dagger, so there's that.
Just realized I never rolled that Fort save.

It's been a few rounds, though, and the commotion (plus Svarog's bellowed threat) seems to be drawing attention. All of you can start to hear movement inside of other rooms, shouts, and the like.

4 hp takes him to 0 before Lidda gets to him, so he's disabled. But that means he can do free and swift actions and 1 standard for 1 hp self-inflicted damage. He'll Maintain Inspire Courage (free), use Arcane Strike (swift), and attack (standard).
That puts him at -1 hp, then Lidda gets to him for 6 and puts him back at 5 hp.

Jarrek's blow nearly drops the assailant, and he looks as though he might be reconsidering his life choices. Svarog can act again!

Dizzy from blood loss, Svarog had to blink repeatedly to focus on the assassins, and couldn't land a blow on them despite his vicious snarled threats to the contrary.
Why, dicebot? Whyyyyyy?!

HP: 4/10
Kira yelps in pain as she shoves back away from the man who just stabbed her, feeling blood trickle out of her wound onto her nightgown. She steps back from her attacker as she pulls out another bomb and throws it towards the man's face.
Taking a 5 foot step back and attacking again.

Kira's second bomb likewise misses, but she's so close that some of the burning liquid splashes onto her attacker, taking a further toll on him. Now badly burned, he elects to retreat. Kira, you can try to follow him if you want.

Jarrek Everstand |
Jarrek brandished his falchion and stomped his foot at the woman. "Or else you'll run away again? I'll take that chance!" He waits until their assailants are out of sight before letting the tip of his sword sink to the ground and putting out a hand to lean on the wall.
The big half-orc looks at Lidda and Svarog. "Are you two alright?"

Svarog grunts affirmation at Lidda and Jarrek's concerns, and shakes his head violently to right his vision before hurrying with them to Kira's home.
No time to lose! Still, they must look pretty strange, wandering about all bloody and nightclothed. XD
DM Carbide |
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Oops. Nooo, our information pump! Svarog will tie him/her up and attempt to cauterize the wound so he/she doesn't bleed out. I'm assuming we can't take 10, much less 20? Svarog can catch up to the others later (unless they live somewhere secret :P).

Jarrek Everstand |
Jarrek pulls up short as he was remembered the man in their room. He looked at Lidda. "Can you make sure this guy doesn't die while we're gone?" He gestures helplessly at the dying man. "I'm more likely to send him on his way."
Kira Ebonhawk |
Kira looks around her room for the first aid kit she keeps nearby, reaching for it she starts to pull out the bandages, "Help me out sis... I um... kind of bleeding."

Lidda Tosscobble |
Dangit, I wouldn't have run off if I'd realized one was still alive. Oh well, worked out anyways
Lidda almost starts crying as she smells the acrid smoke, fearing the worst. She pounds on the door, calling Kira's name.
A small voice accompanies pounding at Kira's front door. "Kira! It's me, Lidda! Are you alright? There's been an attack!"

Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Svarog refused to lean against the wall, though his vision greyed at the edges. Instead, he nudged Jarrek and indicated that he would check the back entrance. Hefting his sword, he trod barefoot down the alley, eyes searching for any movement that might betray a foe, or sign of where someone might have gone recently.

Those of you who are inside the house, after Lidda's hex has restored Kira's health Jeska rolls her eyes at the alchemist's comment. "When *who* has to clean this room? You'll be off on your investigation all day, I bet. Can you have the guards watch extra close around here?"
The four of you make your way to the good-sized house that Haftor shares with several other dwarves--cousins and colleagues. The place is dark, but when you approach the door a gruff voice calls out, "Closed for the night. Come back in the morning!"
Jarrek Everstand |
At Haftor's, Jarrek gestures at the door. "Haftor might be in danger. He's working with us, and all of us have been attacked in our sleep. We wanted to check on him."

The Stone Fist |
Since I'm roused from sleep, I'll assume that it's still night or very early morning.
Haftor grumbles as he dons enough clothing to be acceptable for mixed company, ensuring that he picks up the warhammer that serves as both his holy symbol and his primary weapon. "This better be important," he murmurs under his breath as he goes out to meet with his new companions. He has begun to wonder whether getting involved in this unsavory business was truly the course of wisdom. He prays to the Allfather for guidance as he goes.
Look for the gang, and find out what it's all about. Be generally disgruntled.
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Svarog shrugged. "Haftor seems safe enough there. Let's go back and be there when our prisoner wakes up."
When Haftor rejoined them, Svarog let the others recount their tales of attacks in the night. When they were through, Svarog asked the dwarf for Torag's blessing. "I suffered a cut, as did Jarrek and Kira. I think our assassins were sent to stop us from fulfilling our oath to Kurst. Will Torag grant us healing?"
Then he nudged the prisoner with a boot. "Wake, murderer. We have questions."
DM Carbide |
Haftor, you can read the spoilers.
The captive is wearing leather armor and carrying a shortsword, thieves' tools, a light crossbow and 10 bolts, a dose of antitoxin, a smokestick, a vial whose contents Kira will identify as a potion of cure light wounds, an empty vial that Kira will tell you used to contain a dose of Small centipede poison, an empty vial that used to contain a liquid blade, 4 gp, and a small gem worth around 50 gp. He rouses, groaning, and in response to Svarog grimaces. "Yeah, I bet you do. Half-orc. Tattoos on his face--lots of them. Gave us the gems and the alchemical gear. We were supposed to finalize you two, the slip, and the frail, then ambush the rockhead in the morning. Or leave. That cover it?"
Jarrek Everstand |
Jarrek chuckles and nods. "Mostly. Your friends likely to come back and finish the job or is this it? Were you supposed to meet up with Mr. Face Tattoos or were you leaving town once you were done?"
DM Carbide |
"Not likely. They're probably halfway back to Freedom Town by now. The half-orc said he might have some other work for us, but that's not happening after we botched this job."
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Svarog scowled at the would-be assassin. "This half-orc. Why did he want us killed?" They knew it was because they were too close to something to do with the murder, but what, exactly, was it? Was it the identity of the murderer, or something else? If they could be handed the answer, he wouldn't complain.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
DM Carbide |
The captive is definitely shaken by Svarog's words, though it probably doesn't help that the Kellid tried to kill him and nearly succeeded. "I don't know! He just handed over the gear and gems, and told us who to kill! None of us asked!"
