Weeks have passed since Venture-Captain Nieford Sharrowsmith departed for the Bandu Hills, and having not heard from him since but learned of an Aspis Consortium expedition bound for the same destination, the Society and local allies have grown worried for the aging explorer’s safety. As the PCs travel south on Sharrowsmith’s trail, they must track the venture-captain to the ruins he sought while also dealing with the aftermath of his actions.

A powerful guardian stands vigil over the ancient ruins where Venture-Captain Nieford Sharrowsmith disappeared recently, yet the beast has a weakness: a prophesied talisman now in the possession of an elusive grippli tribe deep in the Kaava Lands. The PCs must win the reclusive people’s trust and claim the prize—all before the Aspis Consortium does!

Having bested the Aspis Consortium and recovered a powerful weapon, the PCs return to the Bandu Hills to delve into its ruins, confront the ancient guardian within, and find their missing venture-captain. Even greater secrets lie below, and the Pathfinders soon find that there is more to the so-called Golden Guardian than legends suggest. Are you resourceful enough to survive the mounting danger and find Nieford Sharrowsmith?

Dang it. When I post, I preview the post after each dice roll to see the result and then right in the text according to that result. In this case, I completely forgot to do the trip parts for both of them, and I came back in edited it in, but completely forgot I needed to add them in to avoid altering the rolls. The 19 total should have been for the second bite, not the trip. My mistake, so I'll give it to you and say the second Festrog's Bite did not hit. That also means that it didn't heal any and you have 6 more HP.

Unable to stand against your fury, the final undead drops <un>lifelessly between it's acidic scars and a massive hammer blow that took it's head off.

Heal DC 10:
Each is hovering right around 0 or 1 hp.

Heal DC 15:
They are also suffering from starvation and dehydration, something that likely contributed to them falling so quickly. It looks like you arrived just in time.

If you heal them somehow:
Once they regain consciousness, they thank you profusely, both for saving their lives and also for saving their souls, believing that they would have risen as one of the abominations had you not saved them. They explain that just before they where attacked, a group of Kobold raiders captured at least 10 other minors. "They marched 'em deeper into the Bandu Hills, they did. Likely to a major Kobold settlement. It's about 15 miles from here." Unsure if you will help their friends and co-workers, they also offer you a magical Heavy Pick, as well as a Masterwork version and a Masterwork Heavy Shield, hoping to tempt you to help them once again.

The Exchange:
Rescuing these minors offers a rare opportunity that you can jump on. It's possible you could have them speak on your behalf to the Golden Crown Company to help secure their goodwill with your own organization. Alternatively, you also know that the company these minors work for has an old rival in the Deeptreasure Mining Company, and they might just love to know a little more about what's going on here, especially with this camp now being as weak as it is. Either way, you notice as the minors look through a logbook for the names of some of the missing captives a few notes leading you to believe they have discovered an abundant silver vein in the gorge, and are working tirelessly to keep it a secret.

DM Roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

Making your way from the mining camp goes uneventful the remainder of the day. You find a safe looking area to set up camp and rest, and the next day is no less hot. After setting out, you begin to get the feeling you are being watched. At first it's just a feeling, but it becomes clear that there is something out there. Things are just too quite, but every once in a while, you hear the snapping of a twig, or swear you hear some sort of low growl off in the distance.

At one point Caith even points out a pair of glowing yellow eyes behind some tall grass, but after shooting a few arrows into the area, you find nothing. Nothing save large reptilian claw marks in the mud. A dragon?

As you come over a hill, you look down to see a forested area leading to an old bridge. Beyond that is the what looks like a stone building in disarray in the distance, but before you can venture a guess, Caith, Darius, and Garret hear the whistling on the wind just in time, turning and in unison screaming a warning, "Dragon!"

This large dragon, while not a "true" dragon, is still a creature to be feared. Occasionally they can also use their taloned feet for an additional mode of attack as well. Go ahead, though you are going to need to make an Acrobatics check to avoid an AoO for that much movement, unless Roderick, Kylar, or Nicolae change that. All things considered, it's a DC 20 Acrobatics check, or if you want to do it at full speed, a DC 30 check. The trees are just difficult terrain, but are passable. I'll wait until the others that act before you actually act to see if it hits or not. Things can always change, but yes, it is considered grappling, so it has a -4 to Dex, which affects it's AC.

Wow, you are right, and in all these years, I have never noticed that. Learn something new all the time.

Roderick heaves a small steaming concoction at the beast, accidentally catching Caith as well. It slams into the beasts abdomen, a direct hit.

Caith's Refl DC 14: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

Sliding over to catch the creature from behind, Nicolae brings his greatsword down hard, leaving a large gash, enough to distract it while Kylar launches a stream of noxious acid, burning away a rather large chunk of it's left haunch, and leaving it looking rather worn for wear. Darius catches a lucky blow from the opposite side of Nicolae, tag-teaming the beast. Caith tries to hit the wyvern up close and personal, but just can't seem to find his footing to land a solid blow. Finally, standing back, the priest calls on divine aid, creating a floating ghostly weapon that strikes at the Wyvern, hurling itself at it to pierce it's thick hide and then returning to hover near him for it's next strike.

The Wyvern, seeing it's outnumbered, releases Caith, but not before ripping it's talons through his supple humanoid flesh, and goes all out, attacking in a flurry of claws, bites, wings, and anything it can.

Rake Damage to Caith (AC 14): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27 <HIT>
Rake Damage to Caith (AC 14): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 <HIT>
Damage to Caith: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (4, 6) + 8 = 18

Bite vs Darius (AC 19): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21 <Hit>
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 1) + 4 = 10

Sting vs Nicolae (AC 18): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 <Hit>
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 plus Poison

Fort DC 17 Negates:
Con Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Wing vs Garret (AC 23): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 <miss>
Wing vs Garret (AC 23): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 <Hit>

ROUND 2
Wyvern (-49)
---------------------------------------------------------------
Roderick (), Nicolae (-10), Kylar (), Darius (-10),
Caith (-29), & Garret (-9)

Still need some Rogue trick from Darius. At this point, it can't be one that restricts it's actions, though. Party is up, and it is looking pretty beaten up. Shouldn't take too much more before you are having dragon steaks tonight.

Let's slap that sucker with Bewildered.

Debilitating Injury entry:
Debilitating Injury (Ex): At 4th level, whenever a rogue deals sneak attack damage to a foe, she can also debilitate the target of her attack, causing it to take a penalty for 1 round (this is in addition to any penalty caused by a rogue talent or other special ability). The rogue can choose to apply any one of the following penalties when the damage is dealt.

Bewildered: The target becomes bewildered, taking a –2 penalty to AC. The target takes an additional –2 penalty to AC against all attacks made by the rogue.

These penalties do not stack with themselves, but additional attacks that deal sneak attack damage extend the duration by 1 round. A creature cannot suffer from more than one penalty from this ability at a time. If a new penalty is applied, the old penalty immediately ends. Any form of healing applied to a target suffering from one of these penalties also removes the penalty.

Darius howls as the beast bites him, then he swings both swords at its exposed flank!

TWF, flank: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 2 = 20
Damage?: 1d6 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 4 + (2, 3) = 10

TWF, flank: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 2 = 16
Damage?: 1d6 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + 2 + (2, 2) = 8

Let's keep the Bewildered condition up provided it survives the round. And assuming at least the 20 hit, given the debuff.

Roderick has precise bombs and excludes up to 3 allies from splash damage, so Caith or others should not be damaged. I just was not sure where Caith was with the grapple.

Seeing Caith drop to the ground in a puddle of blood, and just before the wounded dragon can attack once more, the rest of the party seems to get that little spark of morale they needed, and slash, cut, stab, and beat the last bit of life from the thing.

Let me know how healing goes, too. :) You are going to need it.

You decide to spend a little time to rest, eat, and heal up before you return to your travels. It's not much longer after return to the road you spot markers to your destination. This ancient valley nestled in the Bandu Hills is well hidden, being almost impossible to spot from more than a mile away. Ancient megalithic stones—most of which are toppled and partly buried—ring the border of this deep valley. These stones, long since weathered by time and encrusted with vegetation, serve as the only indication that humanoids may have at one time settled this region. The thick forest canopy of the valley below hides any sign of civilization, ancient or otherwise, from outside observers.

Read Dwarven or Linguistics DC 20:
The megaliths call this area as the Valley of Broken Blood and the city within as Ashkurhall.

Once you have descended into the valley they find themselves beneath a dense canopy of tall jungle trees. Due to the limited sunlight that comes through the canopy, the jungle floor is largely devoid of undergrowth, save for extremely small and sparse vegetation. The majority of the jungle floor is made of massive root structures from the ancient trees and moss-covered rocks. You easily follow the trail of the kobolds and miners, who did not work to conceal their tracks once they got this far. The tracks lead through the jungle to a flowered clearing 2 miles from the ridge.

The dense forestation of the valley jungle thins here, opening up enough to reveal the sky through the canopy. Beneath this opening, an ancient ruin consumed by the jungle is barely visible. Vines and leafy foliage encrust toppled blocks of quarried stone, tall grass grows up between derelict paving stones, and squat statues depicting dwarves in heavy armor stand crooked or fractured entirely from the infiltration of twisting roots. Among the more notable features here are the exotic flowers—tall, pitcher-shaped, golden blooms with seven petals, the interior of each a deep red. The soothing fragrance of the flowers fills the valley, and motes of pollen drift lazily in the air.

Perception DC 20:
As you begin to move forward, you notice skeletal humanoid remains tucked away within the vegetation throughout the ruins. A closer examination reveals the bodies of at least fifty humanoids of varying races. Please also give me a Know Nature DC 20 check, and a separate Know Nature DC 12 check, (only if you have spotted the corpses, or if you share it with others).
