Hey all,
So I tried playing on my own a little while ago with Lini..... it did not go so well. Partly really unlucky roles, partly bad decision making on my part im sure.
I was wondering if there are any particular characters that excel at solo play? Im going to guess that Merisiel is a top contender by virtue of her evade ability?
Thanks all!

In single character play, you have almost no pressure from the blessings deck. So, Merisiel or RotR Kyra can be insanely powerful. RotR Lini too actually. Just stock a couple of Cure spells and don't hesitate to waste a turn to Cure.
Personally, I find it more fun to play 2 or 3 characters by myself when I play solo. More than 3 and I have a hard time keep track of everything. But other people do more than 3 and enjoy it. So, you might want to consider that option too.

I did a RotR solo with Amiri and am doing a WotR solo with Raz (from the Paladin deck).
I second Hawk's note that there is almost no pressure from the blessings deck. Since you are soloing, you obviously have no access to external help. So your Blessings and Allies are needed to support your checks. Thus you need to concentrate on acquiring help for the things that you aren't strong at. It really changes how you play. I actually have to remember to play differently when I'm in a group of 3+ vs when I'm soloing.
Merisiel would be good because of her power to evade.
I would look at the powers that the character has. My current SoS character Koren the Paladin wouldn't be that much use soloing because his powers are so focused on helping others.

I've done actual solo runs with Heggal, Zarlova and WotR Seelah. I'm considering trying to go back to RotR and do a solo Lini run. One of the things you'll note with solo characters is that some of them work better than others. You'll want to tailor what character you're running to the adventure path you're playing. WotR Seelah has been great for Season of the Righteous, but I wouldn't take her through S&S.

I've played a bunch of solo games, and I have some more input:
Examine the role cards of your potential character choices. Here's what you're looking for:
-Powers that only help "another character" are a waste. If there are too many of them you're making things tougher on yourself.
-You will need blessings to defeat henchmen and villains, especially later on. I'd choose a character that can recharge a specific type of blessing over one that gets d12s all the time.
-Self healing is super nice. Either you'd like to be able to cast Cure, or have a power that provides healing. The challenge with solo play is a lot less about the timer and a lot more about survival. AD5 and 6 scenarios especially have a lot of mandatory damage.
Other good abilities: Evasion can save your butt if you encounter a card you just can't handle. Rerolls are super nice when the dice hate your "near sure thing." If your character doesn't have a favored card of weapon or spell, Strength is your default combat stat - a good Str will let you punch baddies until you draw a weapon.

Solo Ranzak is epic!
This is exactly why this is epic!

Ranzak is the little kid who has to touch everything and demands that every toy is his. But if anything bad happens, it's your fault.
It's why I love him!
We beat the Hurricane King and Ranzak insisted on taking his crown... along with basically every loot card we got throughout the game.

I just couldn't beat Karzoug with solo RotR Merisiel...just not enough oomph to survive that last scenario and make those tough rolls. I had some bad early luck and that scenario is no escape.
Keeping my fingers crossed for my solo CD Merisiel in Season of the Righteous...made it through adventure 5, just waiting for 6 to come out. Generally things are only dicey if I don't have a weapon in hand. It's also amazing just how useful the rogue CD Masterwork Tools have been in this season. Even in Wrath barriers above 14 are rare.
