The grease spell works flawlessly, with two of the three creatures near the door slipping and hitting the ground. The third kept its feet initially, but then fell as it tried to leap through the open door. The others managed to shakily stand and move to the solid flood beyond the door. The fourth creature, showing its cunning, leaped across the slick patch and landed right next to Shabbezz.

The first one to come through the door took a deep wound from Angelica and an arrow from Zaphomil, but was undeterred.

Harbug finally finishes his chanting, then slaps the cat on the back. "There ya go!" he says as Jakscar feels warmth spreading from the slap--the warmth feels like it is glowing continues to spread and Jakscar's wounds begin to knit themselves shut.

DM, question posted in discussion thread re: this spell and Harbug acting this round.

Jakscar, you have Fast Healing 1 for 10 rounds, and "detects as a good (evil if it were infernal healing) creature for the duration of the spell and can sense the good (evil) of the magic." So gain a hit point (Harbug is before you in initiative) this round and the next 9 after.

Seeing the room fill with mounds of hostile flesh, Harbug drops his spear and draws his falchion as he moves to cover the small amphibious wizard.

Drop longspear in AY-36, draw Falchion as part of move through AY-35, AY-34, AZ-33 to BA-34--essentially walking around the construct to BA-34 (25' movement)

Harbug echoes the grippli, though deeper and confident rather than fearful. "AAAAAAAAAHHRR!!" he howls, ending in a growl as he brings his falchion down toward the fleshy blob harassing the wizard.

This is the attack that I wasn't sure I would be getting re: Celestial Healing.
Per prior stated rules regarding readied attacks, the roll from here (link) should be used. The attack roll are the same, so:

Between them, Angelica and Harbug managed to cut down the leading fleshdreg, while Jakscar cursed at his ill-timed blow. Shabbezz tried to stun the one threatening her, but the creature bit the grippli hard, threatening to disrupt her spellcasting. The downed creature shakily made its way across the grease, finding firm ground again on the corpse of its compatriot.

Buggy, I thought you had already moved there?

Angelica doesn't like where she's at, knowing that she doesn't do well facing off in a fight. She feels much better when she can strike at points of weakness. Where that may be on these things, she's not quite certain, but she knows that the back is always the best place to start. Now that they are all out of the grease, she can try to get into a better position.

First, she looks incredulously at her new friend, speaking to it in the language it seems to respond to. Thassilonian "Don't just stand there, attack it!" She orders, pointing at the one right in front of it. That said, she steps up onto one of its three solid legs, them uses one of its arms as a launching point to vault herself over the middle creature to land in the space behind all three of them.

Zaphomil hurried over to heal Shabbezz as the grippli clenched her teeth against the pain and finished her spell. The ravening fleshdreg rocked slightly as the spell took effect, its eyes glazing over the tiniest amount.

With a dazzling display of acrobatics, Angelica launched herself off the clockwork servant to flip neatly behind the fleshdregs. Simultaneously, Jakscar struck out with his blades. The fleshdreg between them was pierced heavily, and it slumped to the ground, a light mewl of pain escaping with its last breath.

The construct slammed its head forward, bashing into the remaining fleshdreg, and the squelch of popping skin and pulpy flesh echoed. The creature squirmed a bit before Harbug's falchion swept in and opened a gash from head to crotch. The last enemy fell and then was still.

Rather sheepishly, Jakscar turns briefly to Harbug.
"Thanks, I got a little carried away there, but I can feel your spell working now."

Jakscar, then with his eyes on the door, watching for anything attracted by the commotion calls over his shoulder.
"Shabezz, are you ok?"

I make that final combat status, should now be -8 for Jakscar, because of the fast healing, with the other 8 to heal in the next 8 rounds.

I had, but I guess it didn't get onto the map? And it seemed like my hit killed a creature, so I figured that's as much of a win as getting over to cover Shabbezz.
"Good, I wasn't sure how it'd go down in the mix like that, but it seems like it'll be good." He nods and grunts in agreement with Jakscar when the cat asks after the wizard.

Once he hears that Shabbezz is well, Harbug cleans and sheaths his falchion, retrieves his spear and then moves slowly into the room, being careful on the greasy spot and looking around for anything of interest.

Fang meows angrily from under Harbug's hair as the orc slips momentarily on the grease. Harbug mutters a quick "Sorry." in response before continuing to look around the room.


The room doesn't really contain much of anything of interest. The few pieces of equipment here are badly damaged, as are the cages. Some still hold the skeletal remains of former occupants. The eastern part of the room is slightly scorched, and the door there is closed.

Zaphomil winces as Harbug slips on the residual spell effect. He walks around it carefully and helps the orc up.

Looks like we can continue through here, he offers while reaching a hand toward the door. But he stops just short of touching it before remembering to be cautious. Oh, yes. Angelica, this is where you come in, right?

"I'm fine, thank you," she answers Jakscar, massaging the semi-healed bite wound with her hand. "And I believe that I owe you an apology. I barked a command at you to move when I was the one who told you to engage the creatures in the first place. I'm afraid that it's been proven pretty plainly that I'm hardly the tactical genius that I first fancied myself as."

She visibly winced as Harbug slipped and hit the ground.

"Case in point. Sorry, Harbug," she apologized sheepishly.

She then thanked Zaphomil for the healing and followed him carefully around the grease slick, as it would be some time before the spell effect ceased on its own.

Angelica smiles and gives Buddy-pal an appreciative pat on one of it's metal arms, "Good-boy, mama's so proud." She wipes off her blade and cautiously makes her way over the grease. Once inside the room itself, she gives the place a thorough once over as she travels the length of it to the door at the opposite end. Once there, she finalizes her observations on the door itself, and if she determines it safe, steps aside to let Whiskers take the lead into the next room.

Angelica opens the door to see the skeleton and portcullis that she had found from one of the maze exits. More charring is evident in this room, and the skeleton's armor appears to have taken its share, though it looks to have held.

Angelica looks between each of her teammates with both concern, and confusion on her face. "Um, guys, we first saw this guy from the other side. When we were in the maze... the maze with the fire-breathing dog in it. I'm just throwing this out there, but I'm betting the thing spit fire on him through the bars." She shrugs, moves up to the man, and looks him over for anything of note or value.

The point of origin of the fire appears to be just inside the door between the fleshdreg room and the portcullis. The man's armor in intact, though scorched and rusted from age. The style is old, and the designs unfamiliar at first glance.

Zaphomil studies the old style armor for any insights. Then he'll cast detect magic to look for anything magical about the corpse or room.


Zaphomil recognizes the armor style as one used about 300 years ago. Apparently you aren't the first to come to these chambers since the fall of Thassilon. As for magics, he detected none, other than the faint magics from the maze beyond the portcullis.

Zaphomil nods in agreement. We've already found the way around this portcullis. So perhaps we'll find our way around that water, too. So I'm in favor of checking out those doors first.

Angelica just shrugs with half-lidded eyes, "It's as good a reason or idea as anything. I say let's go. Besides, this armor isn't even worth what it would take to remove, clean, and lug around." WIth that she leads the way back to the last door. She gives it a good look over, before indicating whether Whiskers can go through it or not.

The door is not trapped, or locked, though it does give out a loud creak as Jakscar opens it. Beyond is another set of hallways branching left and right. To the west, Jakscar can see that the smoothly worked stone turns into rough, natural walls after fifty feet or so. To the east, the hallway turns south and runs beyond the limits of his sight.

With the door open, and nothing coming out at them, Angelica resumes her position as scout. She moves up to the best location to allow her a look down each of the directions.

Moving forward, both Angelica and Jakscar see more of the same. To the west, the hallway turns into a more natural-looking passage. To the east, the hall turns south after only twenty feet. Inspecting the southern passage, Angelica can see that it doesn't go very far before ending, with a large set of stone doors near its end.

Harbug sighs and looks around the various passages. "This place seems designed to make you crazy." He continues to follow Angelica from about 15 feet behind.

She makes her way back to Jak, offering, "Same rules still apply, open paths before closed ones." She then skulks up to look around the north corner, and if all is clear moves on to the rough passage.

Move to BD25, to look north. If clear, move to BD21 to look south.

Angelica swung back to the west, continuing to check out the natural tunnel. When nothing appeared to be dangerous, she continued, the rest of the crew falling behind in what had become their standard exploration marching order.

After a bit, the tunnel opened into a large cavern. The sound of dripping water echoed from a large pool against the far wall, and the walls of the caverns were covered with a moist slime. Many stalactites hung from the ceiling, reaching down towards their stalagmite counterparts below. Sheets of a purplish fungus grow along the walls and floor of the cave, while the fossilized bones of a large creature lie slumped against the northwest wall.

Shabezz moves forward to look at the fungi and the bones. She recognizes the fungi as a variant on a standard shelf mushroom, its pigments likely due to the combination of mineral seepage and the slime that grows on the walls. As for the skeleton, she isn't sure. Some type of large quadruped with a conical head and armored plates on its back. As ominous as they appear, they seem to pose no danger.

"The fungi is harmless, the purple coloration mainly due to mineral seepage. As for the skeleton, I'm not sure what manner of creature it originally belonged to, but it also seems to pose no danger as of now.

Zaphomil nods and peers over to view the skeleton, but his fascination is somewhat tempered now that they were in a natural cavern and no longer within the ruins of ancient Thassilon.

Jackscar and Angela round the corner to see the same pool of water that Harbug had suggested jumping over earlier. Indeed, as Angelica had suspected, there was another way to the far side.

Angelica claps her hands against one another, as if dusting them off from performing dirty labor. "Well, one more option narrowed down. Despite all the doors and passages, it seems they all keep circling around to one another so that we're left with one last way to go. Shall we?" With that she indicates they turn around and head back toward the door to the south.

Once she arrives at the door she looks it over for any dangers, and if she finds none, once again offers it to Whiskers to open.
