DM Aron Marczylo |

1d20+5
The firebolt closing in and for a moment, seems like it will succumb Aventi to fire... an eerie moment passes and time slows for Aventi. Bending his knees and back bending further and further backwards as he makes flip in mere second, bolt harmlessly passing above him.
Continuing his movement, shooting his leg towards doll with sweeping arc and twisting his body in air, landing to one arm and another kick flying almost identically and fast towards doll
FoB 1 1d20+4
Damage 1d6+2
FoB 2 1d20+4
Damage 1d6+2Evasion (Ex): At 2nd level or higher, a monk can avoid damage from many area-effect attacks. If a monk makes a successful Ref lex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, he instead takes no damage.
Yep, I know of Evasion and at later level improved Evasion, very nice. Also I assume you aimed for the doll that was hit by the lightning bolt full on?

DM Aron Marczylo |

okey, just wanted to see as you have two dolls going on against you.
as Aventi delivers the final blows to the doll is shatters to peices, procilin all over and the gem remaining intact and inactive.
1 down and several others to go.

DM Aron Marczylo |

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
He appears to resist the sprey of lumanus colours and remains standing.
2 Dolls
Both remaining dolls attack provoking attacks of oppitunity from Krenn and Curnach.
Curnach 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 Curnach takes 1 point of damage as the doll stabs his food.
Krenn 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 The attack bounces off Krenn's armour.
Tapestry's Doll
Tapestry's doll moves into Krenn to try and hit him with her spiked gauntlet which completely fails.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
you don't get a AoO if you take the other one.

Tapestry |

Tapestry snaps her whip at Pestico's wand again...
Weapon Finesse whip attack to Disarm 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
... then moves next to the old man. Move action to E7, which should give both Krenn and Curnach plenty of room to get over and pick up the wand if the disarm worked and they want to...

DM Aron Marczylo |

To avoid being set on fire. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Just for catch up the eagle managed to get off another attack with it's charge and harmed Mr Pesico, he appears to be bleeding quite a bit and growing pale. The fire Curnach fires upon the doll once again burns it, but fails to set it ablaze.
The disarm fails to know the wand out of his hand.
Aventi's Doll
The doll once again provokes a AoO from Aventi as it goes to punch him rapidly.
FoB1 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
FoB2 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
What's Aventi's AC now? I believe he has both mage armour and shield of faith on top of his own AC making it above 22.
Mrs Pestico
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Once again this shambling doll attempts to get up but falls flat again, clearly the ground far too slippery for her to stand.

DM Aron Marczylo |

Honestly said, my AC currently is 21 -> 16 -1 Wis +4 mage +2 SoF = 21 so first FoB hits me.
Jerin, not yet for round 5 although, you can post it beforehand. Curnach and Krenn haven´t acted yet = also note to DM
AoO attack 1d20+5 & damage 1d6+2
1d3 ⇒ 2 damage from the hit then.
Aventi's damage from the punch is still reduced however you can clearly see more cracks surfacing across the doll.
If I remember sleep is a area of effect. Which area are you aiming for?

Jerin |

Sleep is a 1 round casting time, I was going to wait until I saw how the battle unfolded until the beginning of my next turn when it actually goes off to determine the area of effect. Are the tiny dolls actually in the same square as the characters? I don't think I picked up on that.

Tapestry |

Just in case it's needed (i.e. Pestico provokes):
Weapon Finesse AoO with spiked gauntlet: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
If it's a hit, (token) damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
'You could just give up...' Tapestry suggests helpfully to the old dollmaker,'... it's got to beat what Krenn will do to both you and your dollies if you don't...'

DM Aron Marczylo |

I'll post for him as he hasn't replied in so long. I'm sure he wouldn't want us to hold up for him for so long.
Krenn Power-attacks Mr. Pestico
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
1d10 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
The blade of the axe hacks hard into the old man who just grows more pale and looking to Tapestry he drops the wand and puts his hands up.
"O-okey. I surrender. Family, return to your places..." as he says this all of them look to him and the rest of you, but then obey him returning to their places on the doll house. The Tapestry Doll leading the way as she uses her whip as a way to latch on and help the others climb up, using it as a rope.
You can go out of round actions if you like. He's dropped the wand and so it's on the floor out of his reach.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Finally Mrs. Pestico, the large doll manages to get up however it's a bitter sweet victory as the battle is over since Mr. Pestico has surrendered.

Tapestry |

'See,' Tapestry smiles sweetly at the old man, 'that wasn't so hard now, was it? If you'd just turn and put your hands behind your back...' she pulls out her manacles, and binds Pestico's wrists behind his back, adding, 'I usually charge for this sort of thing, you know... but in your case, Master Pestico, I think I'll wave my usual fees...'
Glancing towards the dollshouse, the devil-woman frowns a little,
'So, does that... um... "doll me" being alive... or animated, or whatever it is, effect me in any way? It's a lovely piece, and I'd hate to have to damage it if it's not doing any harm now.' She seems to be asking both Pestico and Jerin.

Mr. Pestico AKA DM |

"I needed a peice of your soul to create her. They share the personalities of those I take, but you will recover please do not destroy my little darlings..." he looks over at the one that was destroyed and sighs. "Rebuilding her will take a while. I just wanted to give them a family neither you or the monk had."

Jerin |

Jerin- how do we help Aventi and Tapestry recover?
Jerin begins a technical description of some obscure magical ritual he has heard of, relishing in the pure beauty of it. When he looks up to several blank stares...
"Well enough of that...depending upon the severity of the damage it has done to you it may just take a day or two of rest. Now that we know the issue Tapestry might be able to diagnose you better than I on the exact time. To be honest this can be dangerous magic stealing souls. If enough is taken the subject could die."DM Aron is there any permanent connection to the drain or is my assumption above correct that the ability damage will heal naturally?

Tapestry |

If it was going to heal naturally you'd think it would have healed last night.
I'm pretty sure we took the damage last night, so we still need a good night's sleep to see if we're healing naturally... or I need to level to get that Lesser Restoration spell! :)
"Rebuilding her will take a while. I just wanted to give them a family neither you or the monk had."
'See,' Tapestry says to the group, her hand resting gently on the old man's shoulder, 'no harm meant... it just slipped Master Pestico's mind to ask our permission first!' Turning back to Pestico she asks, 'Do you think we could meet them properly now, without all the violence? I'd so love to talk to my "little sister"!'

Curnach Daveck |

I think I preferred the old man when he was trying to kill us all... Curnach grumbles quietly as he resumes his vigil at the door, checking to see if the brawl had attracted any attention and conveniently omitting himself from further discussion.

Mr. Pestico AKA DM |

The assumtion is correct, though it only takes a portion of the soul so for it to kill anyone you would have to have something like 20 people doing that at once or something.
Mr Pestico seems a little confused that you would like to talk with her.
"They do have minds of their own. If they want to talk to you they will, but I don't think-" just then Grau and his men marched in looking around everyone in confusion.

Grau Soldado AKA DM |

"I see you beat us here heroes." Grau says putting away his sword. "One of his dolls killed a girl's father. First it destroyed all her other dolls, she got the blame for it by her father but then that night she witnessed the doll cut his throat. We're here to lock him up."
With them was a mage in a robe from the Academy. He appeared more focused on the dolls and seeing the similarity between them and certain members of the group.

Aventi D´Gaudon |

Ooh, its you Grau! Nice to see you... yah, not sure about all this but death by one of these dolls? That is ... well, up to crown to decide. Assisting is our job, but not going to put my ass here Aventi comments from next to dollhouse as he looks at his doll.
Damn, I guess if I could teach it couple tricks and see some fighting move... could it make some stances?

Aventi D´Gaudon |

Stopping and thinking Krenn question and as Aventi is answering, he stops and rethinks, but seems like he is unsure what to say actually I don´t honestly know. I can understand the old man and his desire and as he speaks, he look back to his doll However, for monks... soul and perfection is holy. He broke it by stealing piece of my soul but at same moment, something else was born out. I am not sure is this living or not, but I can´t destroy it just because of that. Everything is connected to something. This was once piece of me and now its individual being.

Grau Soldado AKA DM |

Grau looks at Aventi curiously.
"We will need to confiscate all these dolls for evidence. I'm glad you managed to catch him, I heard you have to be a powerful magic user to create such dolls." he points out "We've been spread thin I've had to come out personally for this one. We don't have much for payment...his trail will be backlogged so consider choice items as your payment."
Jerin |

Choice items from a wizards workshop. We will have to have a good look around and see what we can find! Mr. Pestico can you please let us know what items of magic you have on your person and within your house?
Jerin will start sweeping with detect magic over mr. pestico after his stated items have been removed and then start with the rest of the shop and house letting the others know if he finds anything that Pestico hasn't told them about already.

Tapestry |

Choice items from a wizards workshop. We will have to have a good look around and see what we can find! Mr. Pestico can you please let us know what items of magic you have on your person and within your house?
Those paying attention see a sudden scowl on Tapestry's face at Jerin's renewing of his heartless mercenary status (in her mind at least), as she, almost literally, bites her lip to refrain from starting in on the wizard again. Instead she takes a deep breath, prays for divine Guidance(casts Guidance), and turns to Grau,
'Grau, honey,' she says in her sweetest terms, 'what's going to happen to dear Master Pestico here? While I don't doubt what you say about one of his dolls killing, it seems like they are independent creatures once created - is he to be condemned for their crimes? You say you're short-handed, and that our Master doll-maker here is a powerful magic-user... wouldn't it be better for all if this old man, whose only crime seems to be loneliness, be allowed to work with us against the real threats to the city?'
Diplomacy (with Guidance): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

Curnach Daveck |

Barely listening as he leans against the wall, Curnach thinks to himself quietly. Suddenly his intuition hits him as Tapestry begins speaking-
Something very wrong is happening... Curnach thinks with a shudder as he attempts to catch the conversation again.

Mr. Pestico AKA DM |

Mr. Pestico sighs and looks over to Grau.
"If I do this, will I be given a lighter punishment." he askes and Grau simply nods.
"Working with the law will be brought up and you will be given more mercy." he looks to everyone as Mr. Pestico looks to Jerin.
"I have here a bag of holding type 2, which can take in more than the average bag of holding. The bracers I have are powerful bracers of armoured protection, a amulet of moderate power, Scroll of Dimension Door here and finally a the wand, that you can assume to be lightningbolt. I'm unsure of the charges but I think 23 as I have had to use it more often against attackers in the streets these past few days." he pauses for a moment as he considers this and as he cannot move his still manicled hands he points to his pocket "I have a key to the chest behind the counter. It also had my book which I won't be needing whilst inside."
Yeah this was a over-powered kind of encounter. I forgot what caster level you have to be to create these dolls, however some of the monsters you will face later are a bit overpowered so it should all balance out hopefully. Anyway the items are Bracers of +3 Armour and Amulet of Natural Armour +2.

Grau Soldado AKA DM |

Grau takes a deep breath thinking this over and shaking his head.
"In most situations he would be accused for the death as a Construct is still considered under the control of it's creator, however his co-operation with us and that he gave himself up will work in his favour, especially handing over items to adventures who are working for the guard will work out very well for him." he looks back at the dools, examining Tapestry's and then the others in the home. "I am sure if the court sees how lonly he is, as you have pointed out he might be let off lightly, but this won't be resolved for some time. On another note the Marshall wants to see you all.He moves over to Mr. Pestico and looks to the manicles and Tapestry, raising a eyebrow, but shrugging the thought off.
"We have our own manicles. Mr. Pestico has shown that he's willing to co-operate so you can remove yours and keep them for...personal use and we can use our own."

Jerin |

Mr. Pestico sighs and looks over to Grau.

Jerin reaches in the old man's pocket and draws out the key. Do you have any magical protections on the chest Mr. Pestico? assuming no, he turns to the others, Should I go ahead and look in it or would one of you rather? If he has a spellbook we might find it of some use even if I just copy some spells from it and then we give it back to him when he serves out whatever punishment the city sees fit.

Tapestry |

"We have our own manicles. Mr. Pestico has shown that he's willing to co-operate so you can remove yours and keep them for...personal use and we can use our own."
'Well, I guess if Master Pestico wants to be arrested...' Tapestry shrugs, removing her manacles from the old doll-maker, then turns back to Grau and adds, 'Just promise me you'll personally make sure he's treated well, Grau. Also...' she glances at her doll replica, and frowns a little, '... I'm not comfortable with "a piece of my soul" being in the hands of Academy wizards... I think Aventi and I should keep hold of the dolls animated with our souls, don't you?'
Anyone else starting to think we're batting for the wrong team here?

Aventi D´Gaudon |

Listening speaking, but distracted and not reallz focusing on it, Aventi is still looking at his doll and thinking a flow of nature and karma.
His left eye squints, when he pick up the words of serving for the guard. Paying more attention what is going on and seeing how Tapestry is manipu... talking with Grau, Aventi grins. Seems like our girl has her hands in right place... ehehe
jada jada jada... and idea of keeping their dolls in their possession. Curiously looking at others, Aventi asks Mr. Pestico So, its like as I understood these dolls are servants? Once given order or given someone else, they have to obey the new one? It seems to me... little bit cruel, since they are already partly living creatures. as he give a look from conrer of his eyes to his doll.
Streching his arm little bit forward and feeling his ribs and back little bit sore, a good night of sleeping would surely do good for him. Seems like that he had taken some damage, but nothing seriously, yet. Ah, something about stuff? and looks at others. Tapestry, Curnach and Krenn had armors, but surely as a casters they would need better one, expect Krenn. That one looked to be though. Jerin seems to not have anything, but then, he had his own magic to help. Thinking how to solve this Hm... Isn´t it better for some of our caster to get these... Armor bracers? Would do good to have them better secured at least. The amulet armor... uff, surely it seemed like he need alot of armor stuff. I just need to get better at using my head and body during fights and I guess these armors just will slow me down
This all is completely PC knowledge :) I don´t see Aventi knowing so much about these things, although he got higher than normal standard int. Monks and at least beginning from 1st level have the knowledge, if not at least hearing but our Aventi was raised by outsider (Tian) and surely not everything was told

Curnach Daveck |

The protection wooden armour and shield can give me is limited, thus I would like to claim the protective amulet with your approval. Often my summoning magic means I am at risk of our allies being disrupted. Curnach addresses his companions.
@Tapestry- A little yes. If the gold keeps coming i'm quite happy though.

Jerin |

Jerin looks at Aventi curiously, The bracers will certainly not slow you down Aventi, their magic has no weight. he starts a dissertation about the power of protective magics and how if used in conjunction with each other could wield Aventi almost impervious to being damaged. As he looses the party, early on and mostly from lack of interest, he suddenly realizes and stops talking....Maybe you should take the bracers they will help you. My spells protect me well enough and this will give you almost the same level of proctection as my spells could. Not sure you would really need the scrolls after you put that thing on. Since we can't use the wand we might want to think about selling it. I believe it is worth a goodly sum and then Tapestry and Krenn could use the funds to procure some protective magics of their own?
With no one replying to him regarding his earlier question, he walks over to behind the counter and opens up the chest. Seeing the prize of the shop, a spellbook from a higher level wizard, he grasps it while trying to keep his hands steady.

Tapestry |

... Since we can't use the wand we might want to think about selling it...
Why can't Jerin use the wand? Lightning Bolt is on the Wizard spell list, and wands are spell-trigger items - you don't need to actually know the spell, be a high enough level to cast it, have Ability Score minimums, or even make a roll to use the thing, you just need to be of a class which has access to the spell... which Jerin is...
Obviously more than a little disturbed by people scrabbling for Master Pestico's possessions as if he were a dead relative, Tapestry's frown deepens,
'Is this justice then? A lonely old man is accused of a crime (which looks to hardly be his fault at all) and not only is he hauled away without evidence, trial or debate, but all his possessions are up for grabs to any sticky-fingered little wizards who happen along?' Folding her arms across her chest, Tapestry scowls, 'If I'd wanted to be a common footpad, I could have easily stayed in the gutter. If this truly is the Queen's justice (and not just the rank-and-file taking advantage by tossing an elderly craftsman's rights out the window and stealing all his stuff) then mayhap those who oppose her have the right idea!'

Aventi D´Gaudon |

Tapestry words cause Aventi´s tic to twitch and moving quickly next to her as same time touching her shoulder Tapestry dear, I understand your concern and I think the same way. However, if Mr. Pestico is going to serve law and thus, joining to "our" side and they are going to charge him with less possible amount or just having him to help to keep streets much better place, then that is good trying to smile and calm down her
I know it sounds also bad and its rude, but as I said, I don´t really need anything and I am good with little I have and I have always been. However, if he himself, let´s say, borrow the equipment to us, that is better. sighing little bit and thinking for a while but dear Tapestry... the karma and the universe always goes around. Of course the doll killed a man and as its creator, he has some responsibility of its doings. It is same as with father and son, parents are always responsible of their kids doing until they are full-age and these dolls are not yet or at least I would not think them as adults. Aventi explains and try to think what to say. Tapestry... was young and she had her own way of seeing things for sure. Huoh, not all is fair or right, but we all try to make things go that way. Hopefully this is not causing any trouble to her
It is... one way and as older person than any of us, he also know this. Justice is ... fickle and it can be interpreted many ways. I am supporting the poor people and doing my best. I believe that Mr. Pestico is not bad person and he will help us. I will try to see that he will be served correctly. Is that possible for you to promise, Grau, that you will do your best for him?
Diplomacy 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 +2 from if friends or working with HK´s

Curnach Daveck |

Curnach feels the need to placate and reason with his fellow Lamm-Victim at this point. He even goes as far as to put a sympathetic arm around Tapestry as he speaks, although the gesture is clearly difficult and alien to him.
We're not the justice system in this city Tapestry- and the judgement has been made by Mr. Grau. As for the old man's crimes- soul-stealing? The death of an innocent? Willing to use powerful magic against us before we even drew blades?
I am sure his personal regrets and demeanour will be taken into account at his trial- but his crimes are clear. If you wish to speak at his trial in his defence Tapestry, I am sure that can be arranged. Grau already mentioned the courts, so Pestico wll surely have a trial.
As for taking his possessions... You heard the guard captain. We can at least ensure that these powerful magics serve the city of Korvosa, not work against it. I am certain Zellara would agree.

Jerin |

... Since we can't use the wand we might want to think about selling it...

Not sure why I thought I couldn't use the wand...maybe I am thinking of some carry over from an old rules set. If we can use it then of course we should, it is a potent weapon.

I believe you're meant to use a spellcraft check to read a book? Just for later reference.
In the chest is 23,050 gold coins and the book you would've already taken. It's clasp is shut, but it's not locked by anything. It bears a resemblence to yours.
Quote:... Since we can't use the wand we might want to think about selling it...Why can't Jerin use the wand?
Some of the guards gasp at what you just said about the queen whilst others seem to give a coy smile.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
You can tell Grau is one of the people who appears to agree on this subject, but hides it well.
"I would rarther see these possessions in your hands than left here for looters. The last thing I want is for the looters to have magical equipment to make them even harder to deal with." Grau explains in the hope of reaching a understanding.
"Well spoken. The last thing I want is for a group of my men coming across a band of looters only to be blown away by a magical bolt of lightning. We're spread pretty thin as it is."

Grau Soldado AKA DM |

Diplomacy 1d20+2 +2 from if friends or working with HK´s
"As I have said, I promis I will do everything in my power to see that he is treated properly, but I do have other work to do like trying to catch 'Black Jack'. he smiles to the others But that's a minor concern. To be honest he has been helping us by catching criminals and helping brince the peace as everyone respects him.

Tapestry |

Ooh - excellent player and DM responses there! Can't make the Sense Motive with only a +6...
Listening to Aventi, Curnach, and finally Grau, Tapestry sighs and nods... then takes the opportunity to quickly plant a kiss on Curnach's cheek while she has the chance! Smiling at what she sees as a minor victory, she moves over to Master Pestico and gives the old man a hug and kiss on the cheek too,
'I'm sorry for all this... confusion... Master Pestico,' she says quietly, 'hopefully this will all get sorted out and you can reclaim your property from us - we'll do our best to keep it safe. I...' she glances at Grau, then adds, '... I think you can trust Captain Soldado to make sure you're well treated.'
Leaning a little closer to whisper in Pestico's ear, the tiefling woman finishes with,
'Once you're free again, if you're interested, I could take on the image of your wife if you feel the urge to pretend a little... I wouldn't be her, of course, but I may be able to help ease your loneliness... if only for a while.'

Jerin |

You may all want to see this.... he says to the other group members after Grau leaves with Pestico in tow. To any of the others that come around to behind the counter, I am not sure what you want to do with all of this... he points towards a veritible mountain of gold, silver, and platinum within the chest, Jerin just kind of stands there in awe of that amount of gold. Open up the spoiler with my name on it...
