I'm really enjoying Ricter and the interplay between him and Kip in particular, but me and James always agreed if it really doesn't work out he can roll up a different character. Fenna, Kalev and Casimir's silence worries me a little (on this OOC thread).
Sorry about that, I simply forget it sometimes :)
I do enjoy Richter's way of being different from the others...might bring him and Kalev into some heated debates at some point (and I'm sorry for any damage I'll do to Richter then ;)), but I as a player enjoy his company.

I was just thinking... (I know, I know, not very often... but I try it once in a while) ...that ever since I left the peanut gallery and joined as a PC, the gallery is much quieter. (oh... right...) :)
Anybody still lurking out there? Feel free to comment on things like the dynamic of Ricter and the rest of the Guradians etc. We are a lurker friendly OOC after all! :)
Cheers
I still get a lot of e-mail requests to add people to the group site so I figure we still have some; but with my long hiatus and posting infrequency, we may also have lost many.

Its all Alex's fault....your not allowed to have a life! :)

Bah, the one evening I have loads of time and no one in any of my games posts.
While I was looking for things to do re: my games, I noticed Ricter needs a birthday- middle age is only 8 game years away or so and he might actually hit it before we finish, game time can go incredibly fast in downtime...

I think the tree is up, what are you waiting for??? :)
Kalev Lehola
What, the rest of us don't get to try out our ability as lumberjacks? Spoilsport.
What are you gonna do...try to "nail" it with that pretty sword of yours?
Kip Bendybrook
I must say... I am getting a little worried. If this keeps up, Alex is going to have to start throwing some seriously modified big nasty critters against the party in order to make it a "fair" fight (more than he is already I presume). Or he will have to send things that dual-smiting-two handed-weapons-of-crit-death can't hurt. Or overwhelm us with numbers. Either way, us squishies are gonna get caught in the crossfire. :)
DM Alexander Kilcoyne
Heh, well they each used a smite and Kalev a rangers focus- I have upped the ante a little from my normal 6 player conversion already, but i'm still adjusting to the relatively new additions of Kip and Ricter to the usual mix.
That said, not every fight should be brutally close*- I quite enjoyed you wiping the floor with that Scythe Tree. Also, i'm more likely to increase defences than offense of future encounters, as offensively many things you fight are already incredibly strong.

I think I will put Kip on delay for most combats in the future... until after the melee guys have gone... won't "waste" as many spell resources that way. :)
Malthir Al Dagon
A nat 20 from Kalev will send most things reeling at our level.
It is a good combo, get the creatures to attack the tanks in the front then the damage machine kicks in.
Kip, I still think you should trade in slow for haste as soon as you can. It is more effective to buff us than hope the other creature misses its save...just my opinion.
Kip Bendybrook
You don't have to sell me on Haste... I took Slow originally because Haste was already covered by Ilya. That being said, Slow can be just as effective but in a slightly different way. Slow is just defensive in nature. I know you guys are confident in your ability to dish more damage than you receive, but sometimes you really need to limit the number of attacks coming your way. The fact that we have been fighting mostly single big baddies as opposed to groups is also hurting Slow's perceived value. Wait til Kip Slows a whole group of trolls. :)
And the fact that none of you guys have any real ranged capabilities, hurts Slow. Kip Slows them, and instead of hitting and moving or using ranged attacks, you go stand toe to toe with them. :)
We should definitely add Haste... I'm just not sure yet if it should be at the expense of Slow. :)
From an IC (and totally selfish) perspective, Haste has no real value to Kip himself. (Extra attack? Not used. The +1 is highly marginal for the slot and the speed increase only raises Kip to 40', hardly a life saver) Slow, on the other hand, can mean the difference of life and death for him. Taking one of his known slots for Haste seems very much like Kip paying for a wand of Haste all by himself. ;)
I have a few other 3rd level spells I wish to add as well. Perhaps I need to consider taking the feat Expanded Arcana at 7th. And I was so looking to take Lucky Halfling. :P
Kip Bendybrook
Malthir, once you are confident in the XP totals, I can volunteer to handle tracking them if you wish. Or any other book keeping duties you want to pass off to me. I have the time... and you shouldn't have to worry about tracking everything. I can do my part for the group. :)
Perhaps I can come up with a new map of Kardas?
DM Alexander Kilcoyne
You could take over the Almanac on the group site as Jacob is very busy lately. I know you guys don't use it that much but it really helps me to keep track of the game.
Edit: As for a wand of haste, I suspect that's exactly the kind of thing Malthir would want the party fund to buy.
Kip Bendybrook
Take away the almanac/calendar duties from the bard?! :) Ok, will do. I can also track the XP as well if requested...
And that was my point about comparing it to the wand of Haste. Since it benefits the whole party more than Kip himself, it doesn't make sense to have Kip use a valuable limited resource like a known spell on something he has little personal use for. :)
Casimir
I would not mind someone taking over the almanac duties or xp tracking. This new job is not going leave me with a lot of time at work to post and do other stuff.
Cas can pick up haste once he is able to cast 3rd level spells. That won't be until level 9, though. By then he'll also be able to activate Inspire Courage as a move action.
Malthir Al Dagon
Wand of Haste sounds like a good investment until then.
A wand of haste is 11250gp for a 5th level wand...it will be a couple of levels until we have enough money in the party fund to afford that.
Kip Bendybrook
*groan* It looks like Expanded Arcana for Kip then? ;)
I really hope you realize that I'm not trying to be a pain... it just doesn't seem to fit Kip's character to take the spell. I suppose if the Guardians convinced him IC that it was in his interests. ;)
What about a Staff of Haste (custom)? 400 x 3rd level spell x CL 8 (the minimum) divided by 2 charges per casting = 4800gp Make it use 3 charges per casting and it drops to 3200gp.***
A much better deal! How about it Alex? ;)
PS. I will begin Almanac/calender duties as well as tracking XP. I should have stuff posted today/tomorrow.
EDIT: ***I would have to add another spell that Kip knows to make it all legal and such. That would increase the cost slightly. :)
DM Alexander Kilcoyne
Sorry guys i'm seeing the hints to update but I was out of the house for the entire day (shopping followed by 3 hour russian opera)- will get to it when I can.
A custom staff eh? Bear in mind your constrained by your cities base value...
It seems a good solution is for Kip to learn Haste until the party fund can afford a wand. Also remember you could just buy a wand with severely diminished charges- you don't really need 50 at once anyway do you...
Kip Bendybrook
This is my preferred solution as well. I just wasn't positive if Alex allowed the purchasing of diminished charge wands.
Kip Bendybrook
As to my new duties...
I have performed a mini audit of the thread to verify the current XP total. There are a few things I wish to discuss with Alex via IM before I can give the official total. However, so far in posted XP awards, our current total should be 28402. Depending on what Alex says on IM, this total could go up. I will post up what I have found, for all to see/verify after Alex confirms my findings. :)
At the same time, I have recorded some of the major events for the Almanac/timeline. Once I am confident everything is as it should be, I will post to the web site.
Cheers!
Kip Bendybrook
After conferring with Alex via IM, the official current XP total is 28402.
Kip Bendybrook
Almanac on the group site is up to date. Please let me know if there are any glaring errors or omissions.
Also, the XP ledger is available for viewing on Kip's profile page.

I'm liking the RP so i'm going to wait a while until I update... Besides, it gives me time to make the map of your camp prettier...
We are getting ready to sing campfire songs as well, I hope you like "The tale of the Three Eyed Nixie"....

Its not even guaranteed anything will happen, but I thought it was a really thematic location I could easily use again and I was looking for a way to procastinate while Steam re-downloaded all my games...
This is on Fenna's watch of course... Who doesn't appear to have a bedroll. Halflings like to have blankets to go with their bedrolls and Hellknights show everyone up with fancy tents...
Kip Bendybrook
Kip feels kind of exposed out there on the fringes... he would be much more comfortable closer to the fire. ;)
Fenna Thistleswade
This is on Fenna's watch of course... Who doesn't appear to have a bedroll.
Of course not, all she needs is a soft patch of ground and the built-in blanket from her explorer's outfit... I certainly didn't forget.
Kip Bendybrook
It is Thanksgiving here in the land of ice and snow... as such I will be quite busy. Please DMNPC Kip if needed.
Kip Bendybrook
Kip has a serious bottleneck issue when it comes to actions... too many Guardians want Kip to do too many things... we need to spread the actions out... Kip can't Haste, Enlarge everyone while trying to do his own thing too. When/if we do get a wand of Haste I think Cas should wield it. And more potions of enlarge...
Kip Bendybrook
It sure didn't take long for the Nixie fiasco to blow up in our faces! :)
There goes the neighborhood...
Is it too early to worry about PC death or TPK? ;)
I see Kip being eaten by an enormous ??? that streaks in from the dark...

Casimir has been feeling the same most of the campaign- too many things to do and not enough damn seconds in a round!
Kip Bendybrook
I've just got a bad feeling that if Kip doesn't protect himself first... he could be out of the fight entirely early on. Of course, any delaying on his part may cost another PC their life.
Damn I wish I had fleeting glance already. ;)
Casimir
Casimir has definitively been suffering from option-overload on multiple occasions. Fortunately, whenever more than one option looks like a good idea, you rarely go wrong with whatever you end up picking.
As for my options in this particular combat - well, I've been building Casimir towards a role as an anti-caster fighter. and for the first time i a loooong time, we have a nice, soft spellcaster to fight. No matter what the critters do to us, this does NOT end well for the nixie, i promise you.
And besides...if we don't fear a TPK, Alex isn't trying hard enough.
Malthir Al Dagon
You are a squishy caster, stay away from the critters and continue to harras them with ranged spells...TPK is not out of the question but a little pre-mature at this point.
She could hurt us with her charm ability...
Let's see what happens next round when we get all of our attacks, they have the advantage, for the moment.
Kip Bendybrook
Of course it is premature! But that won't stop me from freaking out! ;)
Keeping away from the critters isn't looking to be very easy. Bat swarms, Thylacines, Nixies, pouncing lions and bears?! Oh my! :)
And to top that all off there is the rest of the ???s!
Charm is going to be hard for her to pull off... with the +5 bonus to the save, opposed Charisma checks and the auto break if threatened by allies...
Of course if she pulls it off... see my above freak out(s). :D
Casimir
You are a squishy caster, stay away from the critters and continue to harras them with ranged spells...
Are you talking to Kip or me - because if you think I'm gonna lay off and harass with ranged spells, sleeping in that armor may have caused you to take some mental ability damage. :-D
Oh, and Bokken's crazy twin just showed up with his pet lion - the fun just keeps on coming.
