Hi

I'm crazy busy with work. I shall try to keep up and post, but if it takes too long, feel free to DM PC me.

I will focus on:
1. Crowd control through reach and AoOs, using positioning to my advantage.
2. Killing enemies.

I have a potion of enlarge person, and I'm not afraid to use it (if situations allow)

Business as usual then. Then again, why think outside the box when the box is 30' per side?

Happy Holidays all! I am off to Jasper for Christmas! I'll try and keep an eye on the game but... ;)

Your Humble Narrator

Hi all, with christmas and boxing day over I thought we could start slowly winding the game up again.

I've been thinking a bit about the different post rates we have going in the group; in particular Malthir and Kip are often itching to post but don't want to drag a scene on or hog the spotlight etc.

Then I saw a post from Kyrademon, a fellow DM on these fine forums. She explained very well her system of allowing RP heavy conversations from the past to continue even while the action is ongoing or the groups in a dungeon crawl; this is something I have unsuccessfully tried to foster as a culture in my games so i'd like it officially declared that I am very happy to use this system of 'FlexTime' as she calls it.

Heres the section of the post in question-

"2) Flexible Time (FlexTime) - This was introduced a few weeks into the game, and is most likely the main reason for the posting rate. Basically, it is the concept that scenes which primarily focus on role-playing, both public and private, can continue happening "in the past" simultaneously with the main plot progressing. So, for example, if you started a conversation with a PC or another NPC about the quality of Varisian Beer, that conversation could continue to progress, either openly or privately spoilered, with a Varisian Beer Conversation header to distinguish it, even as the plot moved on and in "the present" you began exploring a dungeon. There's some more details, but that's the gist.

A major reason for this is to attempt to accommodate both faster and slower posters, and those who like high levels of interaction and those who are a bit more hands-off. Ideally, frequently-posting players can basically make as many conversational posts as they want, without overwhelming the slower posters (who can usually ignore the mostly spoilered private conversations or the clearly labeled public ones they don't wish to be involved with). Similarly, players with a highly interactive style, whatever their rate, can have conversations and roleplaying without making all the people who want to move on and explore the dungeon wait while a conversation about Varisian Beer slowly plays out over days."

Sounds like a good idea to me...hopefully everyone's posting may increase some since the holidays are winding down.

As a side note I am going on vacation the 1st week in January, but the house we are renting has internet access so I will probably only post 1-2 times per day :)

No worries not looking to enforce any posting requirements at the moment, everyone can drift back in when they are ready.

Continuing conversations in spoilers is a good idea; didn't we do this during the first chapter?

Your Humble Narrator

Doesn't necessarily have to be spoilered, could just be Given an appropiate title in this format.

I believe we did I just wanted it 'official'.

I'm not overly concerned with that, to be honest - it's what we have to accomplish in the next 4 minutes (i.e. not get ourselves killed) that seems a bit more relevant to me at the moment.

Your Humble Narrator

You think you have 4 minutes? Bwahahaha... :D

I don't think we have to worry about making it back, we are facing the trolls with little resources left and no armor...we are just hoping to make it out alive....

My character sheet has now been filled out more fully. Alex, did we agree that I would actually get the Hellknight Armour ability at class level 1, or is it just that I can wear Hellknight Armour at class level 1?

Your Humble Narrator

You get the ability early. To my mind, the 'Armiger' level is really before you actually take a level in Hellknight so I was happy to change it. You receive Hellknight 2 at the RAW level though.

Thanks for the changes, is so much easier for me now looking at it. A few things-

Breakdown of saving throws will be useful for you as it gets pretty complex later with all the buffs to it.

Where are your actual traits (not the one I gave you), I need them listed and the effects. One was a Hellknight one I believe?

Other than those two things, great! :)

Male Taldan Human Fighter (Weapon Master) 5/ Hellknight 3 HP:31/81 AC:28 F:+11, R:+6, W:+8, CMD:25*, P:+10, I:+2, AOO:+16

Done and done. Character sheet should now be up to standard.

Your Humble Narrator

Thanks, so much better :).

Ok as its likely to come up- i'm not sure theres an exact ruling for this so heres mine. If an invisible creatures moves through someone's square, theres a 50% (1-50) chance they manage to slip through (this follows the logic that someone doesn't actually take up a full 5 by 5 feet of space in combat). If they fail to slip through, that move action immediately ends (and the creature will be alerted to your presence, which is a non-issue here as because they have Scent they'll be aware anyway).

Use of acrobatics to move through someone's square is unchanged, although note that it is easier as your rolling against flat-footed CMD due to invisibility denying them dexterity bonus to it.

Ok.

For what its worth I think the TPK is almost a done deal. :( The CR for this encounter (what we can already see) is already way above "Epic" level, no? Not even taking our side current status into account.

Not everything in the world follows appropiate CR guidelines- you dealt a serious blow to Hargulka's forces and what kind of budding enemy kingdom/faction doesn't retaliate when it knows you will be vulnerable :).

But bear in mind your on a higher point buy than standard, you each have what is essentially a bonus feat and there's five of you. I stopped treating you as APL=Level quite some time ago.

Epic difficulty is APL +3. Your not currently facing something above that :). I genuinelly think you might even be able to fight your way out; if Kalev gets some rapid healing.

Also, as the rock troll has stepped into the room you have a small avenue of escape past the southern troll if you did decide to flee invisibly.

Your Humble Narrator

Ricter just found it, top of page 60. Kalev was on -3 earlier today (not technically today but once per days refresh after a good rest as far as i'm concerned) and thus goes down hard.

I should definitely note that as he is unconcious, he is automatically a willing target for invisibility sphere ;),

*comes out of hiding*

Hey, Alex, since I started reading your Sargavan Saga, I decided to go back and read one of your other APs as well. I decided on Kingmaker because I haven't had a good opportunity to play it yet, and I decided I'll just live vicariously through those of you who managed to get into a good long-lasting one.

So, I've been reading for quite some time now and have finally just made it to the beginning of Chapter 2! I am absolutely loving it so far.

Just wanted to say keep up the good RP, I think I'll end up catching up the present relatively soon. And if you are still open for it, DM AK, would you add me to the group site? Thank ye kindly!

Your Humble Narrator

Hi Duke :)

Not sure you would have spotted it but there was also a kind of 'intermediary' thread between chapters 1 and 2, thanks for the kind words. I expect to be wrapping up this chapter by March/April, and we'll probably have some more dedicated kingdom building time when that happens.

Your added to the group site- not much really going on there except occasional map updates and a nice almanac of events now written by Kip which helps me keep track.

Lurkers always welcome, and essentially comments/feedback- I don't mind some constructive critiscism from the view point of someone not in the game, its often quite interesting.

Glad you are enjoying the show, DukeRuckley.

Hmmm....for some reason typing that made me feel like Russel Crowe in Gladiator, yelling "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?!" at the crowds while surrounded by dead bodies. Wonder why?

Seriously, always great to know people enjoy our crazy antics.

Yep, I've read it! Actually, that's one of the reasons I've asked to be added to the site. I think it'll make things a little easier to follow when it comes to the Kingdom Building stuff.

I'm really impressed with the roleplaying of this group. It'll probably take me another couple months to catch up though, haha!
