Of course this should have been said last round... LINK

Now the music from Aliens is all that plays in my head when I think of this PBP. :)

Coming right up...hope you don't mind if it will be troll blood.

Thats almost exactly the sentiment your leader expressed before being crit to unconscious.

This difference between him and me is about 20 points of armor class. And how i do love my nice, comfy mithril nightshirt right now.

Your Humble Narrator

It appears you dodged several bullets there and might actually make it to safety.

Huh? What now? What did I do? (2 naked melee types isn't enough? Now you want a spell-less caster too?)

I must say, the anti-halfling sentiment around here is quite thick... ;)

And don't think for a minute Alex that that isn't exactly what I expect is happening. :)

We are not out yet.....even invisible they still have a 50% chance to hit us...and we have to move together in order to stay invisible. I assume since we can see each other we can all just ready an action to move at the same away from the trolls on the lowest init?
It will be some wierd mechanics....

I'll either drop into narrative or basically assume you all move on Kip's initiative.

I vote narrative...unless of course the story being narrated is "...and just as the Guardians thought they had been saved by their invisibility spell, a troll shaman showed up and cast glitterdust on them. Glowing troll poop was found all around the keep for weeks after."

This is not how I envisaged our first encounter with the trolls ending.

Your Humble Narrator

The trolls you faced off against were a little more elite than the standard and the total CR for that encounter was especially high. Congratulations on everyone surviving! I mean, I expect Kalev to cut it close most fights but Malthir? That was a surprise.

Malthir, "Yes dear..."

Yeah, they kicked our arse....this time!

Your Humble Narrator

As specified, i'll need to know which hex you intend to stay in.

Other than that, the plan appears to be to find suitable shelter, rest and then we'll see?

hp 66/66, AC 26/17/20, CMD 23/24, F: +8, R: +11, W: +7, init: +5, per: +10 Human Bard 6/Fighter 2

If we are serious about a counter-attack, we have to camp close enough to rest, prep and make it back to the keep with daylight to spare. As such, I say we stay in this hex.

Male Taldan Human Fighter (Weapon Master) 5/ Hellknight 3 HP:31/81 AC:28 F:+11, R:+6, W:+8, CMD:25*, P:+10, I:+2, AOO:+16

Agreed. The trolls can't ignore difficult terrain like we can - if we can stay in the area and catch them whilst they're still in the keep it would be to our advantage.

On a seperate note, you know the cliche dramatic, cinematic style mass combat that the heroes are usually part of while they wait for powerful reinforcements to arrive?

Role reversal. Your the reinforcements.

I just checked the Vegas lines and this is what they have currently:

Noleski: 1 - 20
Kesten: 1 - 2
Akiros: 2 - 1
Vaysh: 10 - 1
Jhod: 5 - 1
Ilya: 100 - 1
Red Eyes: 7 - 1
Sootscales: 15 - 1
Kressle - 20 - 1
Bokken: 25 - 1
Karina: 12 - 1
Oleg: 100 - 1

It is amazing what betting lines Vegas has these days. ;)

Your Humble Narrator

Such long odds on Ilya? Hmm...

Can the DM place a bet or is that considered unfair...

Edit: Poor Kesten.

Male Human Writer 2/Dreamer 7

What are the odds on the Guardians? I'll take 100 gp on myself.

I'm thinking the line on Ilya reflects his current location. (ie. in Northgreen) ;)

You can ask Malthir, I put my money on Ilya and Akiros (via IM) prior to the commencement of battle. He was leaning towards Kesten. :)

And yes, poor Kesten. And Noleski... (they haven't closed the betting yet.. as confirmation of his death has not been given. ;)

Hey, pass the popcorn. Personally, I think you're shooting low. NPC deaths and all are fine, but as you well know, only a PC death can slake a DM's thirst for blood.

As far as NPCs go, I'll place a bet on Vaysh. Nothing like twisting the knife in one of your PCs...

Dark Archive

No longer matters Drow Lich Epic level Wizard/Cleric of considerable ability

Oh, don't worry Talomyr, we are fully aware of Alex's thirst for blood. You do remember yesterday right? And the fight before that? Oh and the one before that? ;)

And Vaysh's line reflects the dueling notions of heart-wrenching knife twisting scene and story-line/TPK contingency plan. Would he sacrifice one for the other? I think yes. :)

Duke of Kardas, First Sword of Iomedae HP:51/76 AC:27 F:+14, R:+8, W:+12 CMD:23/24 P:-1 Init:+0 AOO:+16

It wouldn't be pretty for the Trolls if they slay Vaysh...think Hargulka cooking over an open fire with his arms and legs cut off. The fire just hot enough to stop his regen, but not enough to kill him.

Guests would be invited to slice off pieces of the would-be troll king at their liesure and if the troll passes out, a quick touch from Malthir would bring him back to the land of the waking...the pain and torment would go on for years...come see the charred creature who never dies but always cooks...I might get stripped of my Paladin-hood, but it would be worth it!!!!!!!!!!!! :]

The betting line has been adjusted...

Noleski: 1 - 10
Kesten: 1 - 10
Akiros: 1 - 1
Vaysh: 5 - 1
Jhod: 1 - 2
Ilya: 100 - 1
Red Eyes: 1 - 20
Sootscales: 20 - 1
Mikmek: 20 - 1
Kressle: 20 - 1
Bokken: 25 - 1
Karina: 10 - 1
Oleg: 100 - 1

...if you read between the lines... ;)

What? I wasn't trying to give AK ideas or anything. *wanders off trying (and failing) to look innocent*

I'll bet Kalev will use Orcish Ferocity during the battle against the trolls. And there's a good chance (based on previous data) that he will save Malthir's life (from being eaten or something similar) at least once ;)

Ok, I assume we can talk tactics while we ride.

It is important, I think, that I get an enlarge...with Ranger's Focus, Enlarge and Lead Blades, if I can get to the BBE, I will deal a fair amount of damage, and any trolls trying to interfere will taste my blade (I love Combat Reflexes).

Malthir, with Smite, should probably do something similar...and we should all focus our attacks. A troll, moreso than other creatures, is equally dangerous at 1 hp and at 50.

You know Malthir's tactics pretty well. Bless, summon the spirit of his sword to put flaming on it, Smite Evil on the two leaders when he sees them.

EDIT: A slight re-think on tactics...we move in like we are going to do a cavalry charge. If we can get them to pull away from the walls to ready for us, we just dismount and cautiously move up to them while getting our buffs up...

Silver Crusade

Great battle! Your castle certainly justified the BP investment. I'm going to miss Red-Eyes, though.

I was so going to put a big punt on Red Eyes too. Kesten and Vaysh were getting side bets. Akiros would have got some action but the bookies went a bit over the top there.

Until the funeral scene plays out, Red Eyes is still taking wagers.

With Hargulka still in play and on a mission, no one is safe yet. And Akiros' line reflects a myriad of narrative and character/personality driven factors. :)

At least that is what I am hearing from Vegas anyhow. ;)
