Tural Ardas |
Back!
Tural wait's to see what Mavor is going to do in the situation, surrounded by rats. He remains silent but keeps an eye out for trouble.
Mavor Asku |
Ok, I have mulled this over and over in my head, either we take on Girrigz now in close quarters or ambush the group we will be sent with. Both plans have their merits, but if we want to keep the casualties to a minimum we should take Girrigz on now. I'll be trying that plan.
"Alright, let this cooperation be mutually beneficial for us."
He then looks at the others and nods. "We've got some extra eyes and ears to help us search, let us not waste any time and find that bracelet."
"Philip was it? Could you lead the way for us? We need to find a spot where something might have easily drifted to."
"Excuse us, but could you make some room, it feels awfully crowded in here now we're trying to get out." Mavor calls out to the rest of the gathered wererats.
When at least Philip and perhaps a few others have passed into the next room, Mavor will turn back to Girrigz.
"We'll be on our way shortly. If we find that bracelet, we'll come back for your share. Oh and one more thing."
Bluff: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Attack, Silver Greataxe, Power Attack, Sneak Attack: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 10 - 2 = 91d12 + 7 + 6 - 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (12) + 7 + 6 - 1 + (5, 3) = 32
Mavor misses with his first slice at Girrigz, cursing his own aim with the quickly drawn and new silver axe.
Not Baer |
Baer nods curtly at Mavor's instructions, and stands aside and ushers the wererats to pass her. She will encourage as many to pass her into the corridor as she can, even giving them a gentle push out the door. When it's clear that no more will go, she follows into the corridor and blocks the way, going full defense with her staff.
Denario Vasquez |
Denario's eyes quickly shift as Mavor speaks the words.
"The black jack beats king of clubs, during a sudden flush. Hold hand until the result."
He makes a small low gesture with a closed fist.
He's making an attack on the leader, get ready.
StephNyan |
One of the wererats moves back at bit to let you out. The only one to exit the room is Phillip, who expects you to follow.
Girrigz didn't see Mavor's attack coming. His eyes go wide when the silver greataxe passes overhead.
"He attacked me! Get them!"
Baer: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Denario: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Majenko: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Mavor: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Quorthos: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Tural: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Girrigz: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Black: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Blue: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Pink: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Red: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
White: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Yellow: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Girrigz steps away from Mavor and takes a potion from one of his pockets. He drinks the potion and a shimmering field of magic appears around him.

I moved Baer up in the initiative order, to lessen the amount of 'breaks' before we get to the end of each round.
Quorthos |
Baer and Denario were forewarned, does this help their initiative at all?
Quorthos draws his wand (as part of a move action), pops his knife into his hand from its spring-loaded sheath, disappears from sight and reappears next to Girrigz. (dimensional slide, counts as 5' of movement but doesn't provoke)
The following assumes that nothing horrible is standing next to me down the western corridor...
"Relax, Girrigz," Quorthos smiles. "If we wanted you dead, Mav wouldn't have missed, and I'd been roasting you instead of talking." he says, brandishing the wand. "We're just hear to deliver a message. You want to start a war, but you don't have an endgame. Your plan will bring ruin to your people, because the surface dwellers will come, in force, and skin you all."
Quorthos shakes his head. "You'd best reconsider your plans, because you have no idea who you are dealing with."
Ready an action to zap Girrigz with the wand of ray on enfeeblement if he does something hostile, OR to zap anything charging down the western corridor.
StephNyan |
No, it didn't have an effect on their initiative. I'll keep such a bonus in mind for next time though, as I think it'd indeed be appropriate!
Girrigz glares at Quorthos. "You should be able to understand, tiefling. The surface dwellers don't take kindly to us. They hate us wererats even more than your kind!"
Mithral Rapier: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
The black wererat steps up to Tural and draws his rapier, which he uses to attack the aasimar. Tural's battle ward protects him from the attack.
Mithral Rapier: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Phillip also draws his rapier. "I trusted you! I even brought you to Girrigz!"
Phillip attacks Baer, who easily dodges the incoming stab.

Seeing that the little creatures try to poke him with toothpicks Tural decides that buffing everyone comes first. He casts fortune on Mavor and starts his chanting. The ominous sound echos in the cave, causing it to be heard almost everywhere.
Mavor, you may reroll a single ability check, attack roll, saving throw or skill check per round and may take the better result. You must decide beforehand to use this ability.
- Chant (Ex): A shaman can chant as a move action. Any creature that is within 30 feet that is under the effects of the shaman's charm, evil eye, fortune, fury, or misfortune hex has that effect's duration extended by 1 round. A shaman cannot select both this hex and the witch's cackle hex.
- Fortune (Su): The shaman grants a creature within 30 feet a bit of good luck for 1 round. The target can call upon this good luck once per round, allowing it to reroll any ability check, attack roll, saving throw, or skill check, taking the better result. The target creature must to decide to use this ability before the first roll is made. At 8th and 16th levels, the duration of this hex increases by 1 round. Once a creature has benefited from the fortune hex, it cannot benefit from it again for 24 hours.
StephNyan |
I revealed the room west of Quorthos, and here's a description of it:
Several pieces of broken furniture, dried hay, and fragments of lumber burn in a small fire at the center of the open, ruggedly carved cavern west of Quorthos. Short alcoves filled with filthy, oversized rats' nests dot the walls, and the disgusting drip of polluted black condensation echoes through the chamber. A thick flow of sewage spreads across the western edge of the chamber, seeping from a crack in the western wall to another in the south. Around the fire stand five wererats, and all of them have turned to see what's going on in the room their boss is in.
The fight goes on:
Tural buffs Mavor with a fortune hex and starts chanting to keep the effect going.
Denario steps behind the pillar and casts daze on Girrigz. Nothing happens.
I now see I made a mistake in the wererats' rolls last time! :O
Mithral Rapier: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Bite: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9 Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
The yellow wererat attacks Tural with a stab from his rapier and his fangs, but doesn't hurt Tural. The bite does however shatter Tural's battle ward.
Mithral Rapier: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Bite: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12 Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
The white wererat attacks Denario, also using his rapier and his fangs. Denario dodges both attacks.

Mavor Asku |
Mavor steps up to Girrigz and heaves his silver greataxe.
"You should surrender while you can. If a group as small as us can cause you this much of a problem, consider what the entire city guard can do."
I'll use my Fortune immediately, better to finish this as quickly as possible.
Attack Silver Greataxe, Power Attack: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 10 - 2 = 171d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 10 - 2 = 281d12 + 7 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (9) + 7 + 6 - 1 = 21

Tural Ardas |
You have Fortune for every round I keep chanting!
StephNyan |
Allyph takes a step toward Quorthos and Girrigz and uses a scroll of mage armor on herself.
Phillip warns Phillip and readies an attack against him, or any other wererat that attacks her.
"I have yet to see you do anything!" Girrigz responds to Mavor, just a second before the latter's greataxe almost decapitates him. The only thing saving Girrigz from a one-hit KO is the shimmering field of magic around him.

The blue wererat moves past some of his allies and Tural to reach Baer. Tural doesn't have a weapon drawn and can't take advantage of the opportunity to strike, but Baer has an attack readied.
Readied attack: Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Mithral Rapier, Flanking: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 2 = 9 Damage, SA: 1d6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 2 + (3) = 11
Baer's attack misses the pink wererat, who responds with an attack of his own. The wererat's attack also misses.
You hear the sounds of a large amount of weapons being drawn coming from the other rooms, as the wererats over there all head your way. From the passage west of Quorthos comes a wererat with a purple afro. Quorthos tries to zap the wererat with his wand, but the wererat ducks and avoids the spell.
Mithral Rapier, Flanking: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 2 = 10 Damage, SA: 1d6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 2 + (2) = 9
The wererat with the purple afro tries to stab Quorthos, but the battle ward surrounding Quorthos keeps him safe.

Bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Girrigz looks from Quorthos to Mavor, then decides Mavor's the greater threat and attacks him. Girrigz's first stab wounds Mavor's leg. The other stab and the bite don't harm Mavor, but they do shatter his battle ward.

Tural Ardas |
Thanks! Had a busy weekend... Also my hp was incorrect in my bar, adjusted it.
Tural takes a step towards the group and raises his hands, engulfing the wererats in front of him in flames. He continues his chanting, giving Mavor more time to use his fortune.
Casting defensively DC 17: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

If he's down, probably not.
"Your leader has fallen! Fall back now or I swear we will kill you all where you stand!" Mavor shouts to the still fighting wererats.

One of the wererats steps up to Tural and attacks him, together with one of the shaman's burn victims. Tural's able to defend himself against the bite attacks, but receives two stabs from the wererats' rapiers.
Mavor swings his greataxe again and inflicts another heavy wound on Girrigz. The wererats' leader looks at Mavor with desperation in his eyes. "No matter what we do, other surface dwellers will come to kill us sooner or later! There's nothing we can do but fight! What else do you suggest we do?!"
The question Girrigz asks sounds much like a plead.

Round 2, Init 4
Baer's staff glows blue with magic energy and she defends against opponents on both sides of her. She strikes at blue, trying to eliminate the flank while yelling at the group on the other side of her.

Denario Vasquez |
Four Denarios nod at Mavor's words.
"Be reasonable and heed his words."
After Baer says hers, he nods at that too.
"That too, has happened before...'t was a mess.
That quarterstaff? It's bashed plenty of heads."
StephNyan |
Baer's attacks are both dodged, but the words she and Mavor speak have the desired effect.
"Stop fighting!" Girrigz shouts and drops his own rapier. "Everyone, lower your weapons!"
The other wererats don't drop their weapons, but all weapons are slowly lowered.
Girrigz's voice is almost emotional when he asks, "Who are you, strangers, and why are you here? Who sent you?"
Combat's over!
Tural Ardas |
"Someone of your own sent us. That person wanted to prevent every one of you going on a suicide mission..."
Tural replies to Girrigz.
"We are a group of pathfinders, currently fighting the plague. The person who sent us promised us information if we prevented you from killing yourselves."
Quorthos |
Quorthos immediately goes over to the folks he burned and starts administering infernal healing.
I'm short one, can anyone loan we a wand charge or something? He should probably heal the others as well, as a sign of good faith.
At Tural's comment, his head snaps around with a look of incredulity on his face. Tural's a Pathfinder? We'll have to discuss this later...
"We're not all Pathfinders," he interjects. "We are concerned citizens of Korvosa, and with the current troubles on the surface, the last thing we need is a civil war between above and below." He nods to Girrigz. "If you followed through with your plans, the surface dwellers would have no choice but to suppress you, quickly and violently. There are Hellknights in the city, tasked with keeping order. Do you really think you can hold out against the Order of the Rack?"
Not sure if that's who is here, but it doesn't matter... it's just for effect.
Tural Ardas |
As an offer of good faith Tural calls everyone close to him.
"Everyone that is wounded get close to me, we are not here to murder you."
He channels positive energy to heal the ones close to him.
Channel: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 3) = 10

Channel: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 1) = 10
Channel: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 5) = 15
Won't use all charges if everyone is healed up!
Baer Mytr |
Baer snorts, still playing her role of hired thug. It was turning out that she was enjoying the role...there was less leading, less thinking, and more standing around. She decides to do it more often.
"Yeah, boss. You tell them, boss! The Rack is plenty tough."
StephNyan |
@Tural: All charges are spent if you want Girrigz back at full HP.
"The Nail," Girrigz corrects you, shivering at the thought of the Hellknights.
"Eries asked you, didn't she? She told me she was concerned about us... If your small group was able to do this, then we don't stand a chance against the Hellknights and guards of the city..."
Girrigz looks at the floor and stays awkwardly quiet for a while before saying, "Thank you... You've saved us from worse."
Quorthos |
"We all sometimes bite off more than we can chew," Quorthos offers by way of consolation. "The trick is to not choke on it, so you live long enough to learn to not do it again." He looks around.
"For myself, I am glad I got to meet some of the Korvosans who dwell below the surface. We share more than I would have thought."
Quorthos waits for the healing to finish, then offers his hand to Girrigz. "Fare well, Girrigz, and good luck. If you ever need help, one Korvosan to another, look me up."
Mavor Asku |
Mavor nods in agreement to Quorthos's statement.
"Aye indeed. Apologies though for the ruse, we didn't want to take chances to hurt any more than we had to. Fare thee well fellow Korvosans, until next time we meet."
Tural Ardas |
"That'll patch you up. Maybe we can collaborate in the future, should the need arise. You seem alright folk to me."
Tural follows Mavor out.
StephNyan |
Girrigz takes Quorthos's hand and shakes it. "It'd be good to have some more reliable contacts on the surface. I imagine having some below the surface is also beneficial to you."
He nods at the others and suddenly snickers. "Let me know when you're looking for more bracelets."
You're escorted back outside by Phillip, who looks tremendously relieved. "For a moment I was worried I'd doomed us all by letting you through..."
Outside Girrigz's lair you're greeted by a familiar face.
"There you arrre!" Eries says while leaning against the sewer's wall. "Did everything work ooouuut?"
Quorthos |
"Girrigz and his friends are eminently sensible. I don't expect any trouble," replies Quorthos. He points his thumb towards Phillip. "This one in particular is a brave fellow and a good thinker." He eyes Eries directly. "I would hate to hear of any punishment or other unpleasantries beyond this point, though... the matter is in the past."
StephNyan |
"Everyone's alright theeen?" Eries asks, also looking at Phillip for a moment.
"Uh, yes, ma'am," Phillip responds.
Eries gives Phillip a yellow toothed smile. "Gooood! Could you tell him I'll stop by lateeer?"
Phillip nods and heads back into the lair, after which Eries turns back to you.
"Thank you for helping meee. Girrigz and the others youths mean to do gooood. It's just that their lack of experience causes them to make rash decisiooons. I assure you I won't send more people to punish theeem. If you've done your job, then there's no reason tooo."
She motions for you to follow her. "Follow meee. It's time for your rewaaard."
