Welcome to the OOC Thread!
This is where we get to have all our Out of Character discussions. Please feel free to email/chat with me directly as well if it's a more private matter for your character. I'm available.

Don't forget to check the campaign info tab. I will be updating it with current information from time to time. If there's something you'd like to see regularly posted there, let me know.

Elf:
HP:113/113 AC: 21 (f17/t16)): K(Arc) +17, K(His) +7, K(Pl) +20, K(Rel) +20, Per +24, Sense +12, Spllcft +24/26

*CRACKLE!!!!*

The air rips as the fabric of reality is torn asunnder!

"RAWR!!! I CALL MYSELF INTO EXISTENCE IN THIS THREAD!"

An elf tumbles through the torn fabric and into the OOC thread.

"I am Briar! And I have willed myself into existence!!"

"Let this thread tremble at my coming and let this board quake at my existence!"

The elf awaits others to enter.

Elf:
HP:113/113 AC: 21 (f17/t16)): K(Arc) +17, K(His) +7, K(Pl) +20, K(Rel) +20, Per +24, Sense +12, Spllcft +24/26

Briar unfolds a piece of paper taken from his pocket.

The paper, scented with a perfume of lilacs and peaches, and studded with some rather gaudy gold lettering, does not seem to have borne the folding well and some flakes of gold tumble to the ground.

Briar reads it again and looks around, confused.

I was sure this was the right thread. It says here "DM Euan" and "Curse of the Crimson Throne". Hmmph...am I early?

Briar wills a chair into existence, then a silver dagger, and a block of wood.

Briar sits and begins to whittle, his dagger scraping off chunks of wood while he waits.

heheheheh. Some of us are hanging about in the other thread, but yeah, others of us are still working out their characters. :) Slooowwwly.

I know where some of you call home, but if I do not, please let me know where you are staying in the city. Rents range widely and the midlands area is the cheaper section (short of the really really cheap stuff in the shingles or in the slums outside the city).

I'm presuming at this point in your careers you're staying in studio apartments given your generally poor characters. Even in the Midlands studio apartments run 2-20gp per month (higher the higher up the slope you get with the cheapest in the docks area).

If you have a good argument for something nicer I'm all ears - just drop me an email/chat/OOC comment and we'll talk about it.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I'm not strictly tracking monthly expenses like this, but I do want to know where you call home. And not so I can burn it - I swear!

As noted in the Campaign Information tab:

Harrow Readings:
A Harrow Deck is a method of seeing into the future. At various points during the AP you will be receiving readings. Some of these readings are very powerful and will effect the outcome of your characters in subtle ways. These are represented in various ways which I will track, and as Harrow Points which you may use.

Early on you are faced with numerous situations where you need to be quick on your feet. During this portion you may spend your Harrow Points in the following ways. Using a Harrow Point is an immediate action (though in most cases you may use Harrow Points more than once per round if you have that many to spend).

Dexterity Rerolls
You may spend a Harrow Point to reroll any one initiative check, Reflex save, attack roll modified by Dexterity, or Dexterity-based skill check. You must abide by the new result.

Dodge Bonus
You may spend a Harrow Point to gain a +2 dodge bonus to your Armor Class for one encounter.

Speed Increase
You may spend a Harrow Point to increase your base speed by 10'/round for one encounter.

You have just had one of those powerful readings. There are two main in-game effects. The first is one that I will track and will simply affect you individually at various times. The second is one that you get to use - the rerolls/dodge/speed bonuses.

You each have 3 points. You may use one or more points at a time, but each use is an immediate action. For example you could really pump up your armor class during an encounter to +6 (dodge) by spending all your points. You should know how many points you have left, but I will have the master list.

And yes, if you chose the reroll and don't like it, you may reroll again if you still have Harrow Points remaining. These are meant to reflect your special-ness and the power of fate. However, you cannot say take the AC bump after you found out I hit you and it would make a difference. You've got to do it before I roll.

DM_Euan wrote:

How would you like to do that in the flow of PbP? In most combats I've seen the DM roll attacks and damage all at once in their post, and then the PCs go. This would seem to require one post where you say, "Fondo and Dandilioin, you're both being attacked," and then some wait for us to decide whether to use a harrow point.

The other option is to use the honor system and put NPC attacks in a spoiler, though that might also mean that you have to do one post where you do your attacks, adn then a separate that summarizes real effects.

These point systems are really different in PbP!

For the Dexterity reroll we'll go back in time - though most of those are on your init anyway. For the AC - you need to declare it before I go. You can't do an immediate action flat-footed, so if I get initiative on you it's moot anyway. :)

Male Human (Per +18 | Fort +12 Ref +16 Will +12 | AC 24 (f 19/t 17)| CMD 30/f 25)

Barael stumbles in, sleepy-eyed. "Man, how's a guy get some rest here??"

When it comes to PbP and status effects, I'm interested in knowing more about the dynamics of sleep/rest to avoid fatigue or drunken states, and daily recuperation of hit point(s).

Are conditions imposed only by the DM, or do we need to keep track of fatigue seeping in, or think our characters are becoming exhausted?

Unless someone used Con as a dump stat one night is not going to hurt anyone. But yes, I'll keep track of such things and let you know when/if fatigue becomes a problem.

As for drunkeness, that's more your call - just how much are you drinking? :)

Elf:

Note to Barael and Charlie: Please feel free to push the action as much as you like, especially as we get moving. It's unlikely that you'll step an any toes.

Briar, for the most part, will be a follower, not a leader in this campaign.

Euan, Chris, Bernie, & I have been playing together for a while and your energy/push/differences will be key in making this PbP happen.

Love,

Briar

Well received, Briar! I haven't let Barael go the way of puller, he's currently more of a nudger :) With your encouragement, I'll get up to speed more briskly.

Regards,
Barael

Barael's a lucky sod. I should have hit him twice in that first round (well the surprise round and the first round). I forgot he was also flat footed. Ah well - no going back! Lucky sod.

Briar shrugs his shoulders and tips back one to Desna.

He is unsure why he is drinking, but a bit of wine never hurt nobody no how, no way.

"To Desna!"

Male Human (Per +18 | Fort +12 Ref +16 Will +12 | AC 24 (f 19/t 17)| CMD 30/f 25)

Barael opens up his pocket dictionary, which he doesn't actually have, to look up the word "catamite"...

"Our first scenario draws to a close. I gotta say, if this is merely first-level traipsing about, we're in for one hell of a ride."

DM_Euan, don't set the bar too high so soon lol. Wait, no go ahead, do your worst hehehe

Barael, funny you should say that.

Please level up to second level. As I mentioned I wanted to get you to second level early and here it is. That said, the early parts of this AP mean fast leveling. I'm going by what a few folks have recommended on the boards for level pacing and the recommendations of the AP itself.

Barael and Charlie, wait a bit and watch how the others post their new level stats. They'll do it here in the OOC and list their new skills/feats/etc.

I'll try to get that up today before 3:00pm, otherwise it'll be sometime tomorrow.

It's a small argument, and I'm easily persuadable if there are party members with no sufficient ranged attack." Barael rubs the bolt woundsite. "If you don't mind, I'm going to have a bit of a look at these two vials of poison. It might be a new kind of trouble I'm looking into."

"Also, gold."

Nikolay will hold onto the wands until tomorrow when he'll memorize detect magic and try to identify them.
- Obsidian wand
- Acid stained darkwood wand

No preference for the rest of the items. People can take what they want and then sell the rest when the opportunity arises.

Please add to your new spells and abilities to your 'memorized'/available lists as if you'd slept when you gained the level. You didn't sleep so any spells you may have used (like Charlie's Cure Light Wounds) don't come back.

Clear as mud?

Male Human (PER +6 | FORT+15 REF+9 WILL+11 | AC 26 (F24, T14) CMD28)

Yes. I'll take detect magic for my 0 level and Hydraulic Push for my 1st level.

DM_Euan wrote:

When you cast detect magic, you also find that the harrow deck, Gaedren's ring, and the oil all detect as magic.

Oh and you do ID the Obsidian wand (15+Caster Level, and in this cast the caster level is in fact 1 - right?). The Obsidian Wand is a wand of magic missiles with 23 charges remaining.

I was on the fence about that one and started out-thinking myself. The minimum level to take craft wands is 5. So wouldn't any wand actually start at a DC of 20?

Male Human (PER +6 | FORT+15 REF+9 WILL+11 | AC 26 (F24, T14) CMD28)

Of course, by this logic then all wands would be at least caster level 5. A 1st level wand of magic missles couldn't exist.

As a I said, overthinking.

I think the intention of the game is that caster level = minimum level to cast the spell unless noted otherwise.

The logic falls apart with rings. Forge ring has a minimum level of 7, but a ring of animal friendship is listed in the PRD as a CL 3.

Yeah, it is a little messed up, but I'm going to go with actual caster level rather than minimum required to create. I think. :D

Male Human (PER +6 | FORT+15 REF+9 WILL+11 | AC 26 (F24, T14) CMD28)

Nikolay would like to keep the ring for its use in allowing spells to be memorized after only 2 hours sleep.

Can anyone use the wands besides Nikolay?

Male Human (Init +7 | Per +16 | Fort +16 Ref +15 Will +11* +1 enchant, +4 language & sonic | AC 32 (f25/t19) | CMD36*)

You obviously didn't use Euan's useful link...

I should add that's 5, plus your con, plus the one from favored class (unless you're using that for skills).

Male Human (Per +18 | Fort +12 Ref +16 Will +12 | AC 24 (f 19/t 17)| CMD 30/f 25)
