Ellena avoided the threatening glaive by keeping Leriel's ally, Trent, between her and the cleric. Trent could not see Ellena and so he was an easy target and her sword drew blood. He absorbed the blow with a curse, but had the instincts of a seasoned fighter to keep the wounds from being as grievous as they might be. 6 points damage; using the first roll for her main attack, keeping the second for an AOO, if she gets one later.

Anarya channeled the life giving energy granted by her mysterious connection to Life itself. Only she benefited from this, although others felt the reassuring warmth as the energy radiated through them. The enemies were not so blessed, however.

Who's up right now?

Tauni is next. I gave her the option to add second level spells to her prepared list, but I don't see any listed in her profile. Don't want to bot her if she had something clever planned. I might suggest enlarging Ellena, but I'm willing to wait a bit longer before doing that.

Sorry, I didn't realize I was up. I am working on Tauni's profile in a Word document while I am adding hyperlinks to her spells and feats, so I haven't updated her profile her on the website yet. For 2nd level spells, she just has Glitterdust and See Invisible, so she has the former memorized twice and the later memorized once (in her specialized school slot). For now, she's going to hold on to that second glitterdust while she...

Having seen the havoc being wreaked by Leriel with her long weapon and tremendous reach, Tauni tried to neutralize it. She moved up behind Ellena, drawing her whip as she went. However, it was not her whip she used, but a smear of butter on a fingertip. With an arcane syllable, she cast a spell to try and force Leriel to drop her weapon.

Casting Grease. A DC 15 reflex save is needed, or the weapon is dropped. If she does drop it, it would revert to normal size and remain so even if she picks it up again.

Tauni advanced until she was just out of reach of Leriel's whirling glaive. A hand dipped into a pouch for a spell component, a gesture, a word, and the enlarged polearm slipped from the giant fighting cleric's fingers as it magically got covered with a slippery substance. As it clattered to the cobblestones, it returned to its normal size of around seven feet long, giving off the scent of sacred ghee used in Abadar holy ceremonies.

Leriel cursed in abyssal and then adjusted, clenching her gauntlet covered fists, prepared to give a lethal punch to any who approached within 10 feet.

Trent, still blinded by the glare of the glitterdust, slashed at Ellena with a dagger. But without sight, he misjudged Ellena's position and the attack missed. After attacking, took shifted back toward Leriel

Karas was still blinded by rage and continued his assault on the retreating cultist.

Karas charged at Leriel and ducked under her poorly timed punch as he drew near. With a mighty swing, his longsword cut deeply into her thigh. Leriel reeled for a moment from the nearly mortal wound.

Anevia continued to stalk down along the buildings to the south, casting more light on the western part of the plaza. Then she fired another shot at the man in the mask. Her arrow wavered slightly as it penetrated some kind of magical deflection screen, but then drove into his left shoulder. 5 points damage.

From the folds of the collapsed tent rose a figure. She had elegant looking cloths, now somewhat soiled, black silk pants cut low at the hips, a chain shirt covered with a white tunic, and bright red fabric dangling from her sash and belt. She moved quickly over to the man in the mask, accepting the loaded crossbow he held up for her as she neared.

Getting over a cold and I've had a very busy day, so just a quick post for now.

Anarya made a quick gesture in front of her as the light from her halo sheathed her in protective magic. Hefting her morningstar, she approached the woman in the strange clothes.

Using shield spell-like ability from her trait, then move to the square adjacent to and to the south of Nissa. If any of the enemies provokes from her, she will take the AoO.

Can we tell what square under the collapsed tent is occupied? If so, I'd like to move Tauni to start positioning her.

Tauni saw Nizza rise from the tent and move west. She does not appear to have any wounds. Since then Tauni hasn't seen anything to suggest there is anyone under the tent, although that doesn't mean there is no one else hiding there.

I forgot to mention, when the light revealed the man next to Cor-Altim, it also revealed a black cat right next to him.

I moved Anarya to the square south of Nizza. She could have moved to the square south of Cor-Altim instead, so let me know if that is preferred. I also moved Ellena a square closer to Trent, so the can effectively threaten him as indicated.

Franti can post his action. Keep it spoilered except anything that can be seen in the dim or normal light, with a separate spoiler for Karas in case Karas could see something with darkvision that the others would not see.

The goblin emerged from the darkness, catching his breath after his sprint and return. He held his bow in his hand, taking count of the scene and making sure none of his dear friends had died in his absence. He sighed, coughed, and prepared to provide a ranged support.

Trent, still unable to see, sneered at Ellena's threat, told her to do something that was very crude, and tried to back away and scarper off into the darkness. But his arrogance led to his downfall, as Ellena cut him twice with her glowing sword before he could get more than a few steps away. He collapsed and lay still. 11 + 8 damage.

Cor-Altim stood, which gave Anarya a chance to smack him with her mace. He got to his feet without suffering any harm from the poorly timed attack from the oracle. He then moved and drew his great club to take up a position near Karas.

The man with the metal mask stepped back away from Anayra, drawing a spear and then gestured and spoke, casting a spell while starring at Karas.

Karas grinned a toothy smile in triumph.

Then he looked to Scariani, dropped his sword and stepped in close.

"Baphomet won't save you from me." he said in a tone about 3 octaves lower than his normal voice.

While Horgus and Aravashnial kept an eye on Wenduag around the corner of a building, Anevia suddenly had three potential targets of her arrows. Sensing the revived barbarian was the greatest threat, she concentrated her attacks on him, especially as she saw Karas was vulnerable. The first shot hit his leg. The second went wide. 4 points damage.

Nizza, having just been given a loaded crossbow by Scariani, stepped away from Anarya and fired the crossbow point black at Karas. The shaft drove deep into his chest. 8 points damage She dropped the crossbow and drew a morning star.

Hands on her hips, Avelina leans forward towards Leriel, showing off her teeth as she grins.

"Hah! HA. HA. HA. You couldn't even take four arrows." She does her best to make each word as sharp as another arrow.

Avelina resumes her prideful march towards the battle, her head held high. She stops behind her Champion, then draws back her hand to "pull" another arrow, using Ellena's back to level her bow. She aims at the large man that rose again a moment earlier.

"Your giantess has fallen! How many Holy Arrows do you think your wicked body can take before it falls as well?"

She looses another volley against him. Cor-Altim, just to be absolutely clear

Ellena moved 15' forward, calling out a challenge to Scariana who she saw waiting in front of her. "Prepare to taste the Inheritor's Blade. Today's your last, if you don't give up!" She swung her longsword in a broad arc, trying to cleave her enemy in twain.

Why wouldn't Karas's second claw deal its damage? The spell should stun him after the damage is dealt.

"Raise not your weapons against the righteous, warrior!" Anarya commands Cor-Altim to halt. Her voice resonates with divine weight as her command bears down on the barbarian's will.

More glowing arrows radiated from Avelina and converged on the barbarian. The damage overwhelmed him and he fell for the 2nd time. Anarya can change her action in light of this.

My interpretation of stunning barrier is that the trigger that forces the save is the melee attack, which brings the target in to contact with the magic before doing damage. So if the save fails, the attack is prevented. Other interpretations might be reasonable, but let's go with this and argue it later for future situations.

Ellena's longsword attack met with resistance from magical force armor surrounding the sorcerer and so she did not cut him.

I'm okay with either interpretation, as they both make sense - in fact, yours makes it really easy to pick one of Anarya's future spells known, as I very much enjoy the greater version of that spell on my Warpriest. :)

Dang, now prone my ranged attack would be less effective. Though this was probably for the better....

Franti threw his bow to the floor, drawing his saps as he hopped toward the prone combatant. "Your friend should've made me run longer." The goblin stood above him, stopping over his head, leaning over him with a gleaming smile that hid his frustration and lingering fear. Franti reared his sap skyward, whipping it down towards Scariani's head.

After the blow, Franti looked up at Karas, giving the tiefling a wink, unaware Karas was affected by magics just moments prior rendering him stunned. "Oh Silver, don't look too shocked to see me. Think I'd leave without a goodbye?" The fool jolted upwards, now looking up to Nizza, though from the corner of his eye, he caught a glance of the cat on the floor by his feet. The familiar held his attention now. "The same joke twice? It grows stale, Pico..."

Free to drop, move action to move 30ft (10ft east, 20 via diagonals North-east) and draw saps, standard for single attack action.

Franti returned and hit Scariani while he was down, knocking him out.

Scariani's cat jumped on his fallen master's chest, back arched, tail big, ready to attack anyone who moved to touch the unconscious sorcerer. Ready attack against the first person to attempt to touch Scariani.

Karas recovered from his stunning encounter with Scariani's defensive spell.

Karas shook himself free of the stun to roar at his downed opponent before turning his goresoaked claws to a new target. The poor girl with a crossbow.

If the consensus is that Karas would not get an action this turn due to the effect that began in the midst of his last action, then that's how I'll run it. However, I'm inclined to think that Karas would not be stunned until the start of his next turn in round 7, so he could make attacks of opportunity and would no longer have the other penalties for being stunned. If Karas gets an AOO in the round to come, I'll apply the rolls made above. Sorry for the confusion. See discussion thread for a question I'd like to get cleared up for myself.

Anevia dropped her bow and drew her shortsword and stepped up to threaten the last remaining cultist, the summoner Nizza. "Give up. Your life will be spared if you surrender now." She did not speak with as much conviction as Ellena or Avelina might, as she only embraced worship of Iomedae after she began her relationship with Irabeth. Showing mercy was not part of her usual way of fighting.

Nizza struggled with the power of Anarya's enchanted command. It was clear she wanted to flee, but instead she did nothing.

The melee is almost over. Post as usual, but unless Nizza is going to be surrounded with threatening enemies, so it would be suicidal for her to attempt to flee, although she might choose that way to being a prisoner of Crusaders. Let's play through the next round keeping in initiative order. If you want to save the lives of the opponents who are bleeding presently, you may need to act fast. It won't be clear who is in danger of dying until someone takes a closer look with a heal skill roll.

What kind of an action would it be to make that heal check? If it's a move action, Anarya would do that first, to know who's most injured. If it's a standard action, she's gonna just start stabilizing people and hope she gets lucky trust Iomedae to guide her to those who most need her aid.

When Avelina heard Anevia admonish the remaining cultist, Avelina remembered herself. She had been full of so much anger a moment earlier, and she didn't know way. She looked back at Leriel and then at Cor-Altim; fallen at her hand. she held up her gloved hands, and she smiled with wide eyes. The Inheritor's Heavenly Legions had gifted her with their arrows, and they had done their work well. She turned her gaze once more to the summoner.

The arrows had done their work. She had no more need of them for this battle.

"Surrender, and we may yet have time to save your companions from death."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22

I know that normally diplomacy takes at least a minute, but she would make the request anyways, and it's really not an intimidate, so I figured it was the best thing to roll

Since we've established that Karas could make his attacks, I'm going to apply the attacks to Nizza.

As Karas regained his control of his actions, he was still in a rage and savagely attacked the lone summoner, Nizza. She defended as best she could but was left with her beautiful clothes ripped and stained with her own blood. She was still alive but she could not stand another wound.

Will need to wait for Anarya's command spell to expire to learn if she surrenders or not. Rather than making heal checks, lets call it a perception check to detect lethal injuries that need to be stabilized, which I'll make behind the screen. You can perform a standard action heal check if you want to be sure. If the character is bleeding and the result comes in under 15, you'll know automatically if more work is needed or if the person is dead provided the result comes in over 5. If under 5, you misdiagnose the target. This requires at least 1 rank in Heal skill. Those untrained in healing will need to make a heal check as a standard action, as in standard skill use to know if a character stabilized or not. I'll make Anarya's perception checks unaffected by her deafness, since she's relying on non-auditory information.

As Anarya began to check on the fallen cultists for opportunities to show the merciful side of Iomdedae, Horgus told Wenduag to walk out toward the battlefield, as he led Aravashnial.

Nizza stood amid the threatening enemies, unable to act due to the command given by Anarya. This gave her a chance to consider her chances of escape. Hate distorted her features as she struggled to regain control of her actions. She looked disdainfully at Karas' claws, still red with her blood, the glowing sword of Ellena and Anevia's shortsword and Franti's sap.

Then she began to cast a spell.

Ellena and Anevia both stabbed the summoner before she could complete her spell and Franti hit her with his sap. Karas lashed out with a clawed hand but missed. 13 points from Ellena, 10 from Anevia, and 8 non-lethal from Franti.

The summoner was killed instantly.

The black cat stood aggressively ready to attack anyone who disturbed Scariani's body.

Anyone who wants to do anything to Scariani will have to deal with the cat (proceed as if still in melee), but otherwise melee is over. Leriel, Trent, and the serpent (eidolon) are bleeding out. Cor-Altim is not dead, just unconscious. It's not clear what is happening with Scariani as no one can get close enough to examine his body or even touch it without risking an attack by his familiar.

You put my sneak attack under Anarya. I should have dealt that 7, +2 for Sap Adept, in addition to my normal damage roll.

The sap made a loud, snapping sound as it hit his target. Franti stood shocked as the summoner dropped to the ground. His grin faded the instant after his blow connected. The woman didn't move. He left his goblinoid form, taking the appearance of his pale, humanoid self and dropped to his knees. He began to shake the woman, trying to rouse her from unconsciousness. "I, um, think we went a little too far..."

Franti checks to see if she was fine. He wasn't sure, he never in his life had to check for such things. He couldn't feel a pulse, but then again, he never had before. She had to be alive, she was just standing before him. Standing, breathing, alive in front of him. "A-Anarya, um, is she okay?" He shook Nizza again. Was it my hit? Was that what did it? Should I've left it for Ellena? He kept at it, trying to wake her. She was still warm. He spoke fast, rushed as he looked her over again. "One of you, you are divine, right? C'mon, heal her, she is bleeding."

Karas looked down at the hissing familiar and swiped at it, still enraged with death in his eyes. He seemed to be aimed at the downed cultist.

Anarya turned her head away as Nizza chose death over surrender, tears in her eyes. Why? she thought. Lied to by cultists, no doubt. Told that crusaders meant only harm. She had no time for such musings, though, and quickly surveyed the battlefield. She had the best view of Leriel - bleeding on the street, badly wounded. There was no time to think. She snapped her fingers and a mote of light flew from her halo to staunch the woman's injuries.

Casting stabilize. Trent is next, then Scariani, then Cor-Altim, then the familiar if it lives. She will not stabilize Kru-Kru (that's the demon-snake, right?).

Avelina's eyes darted about the battlefield, having difficulty concentrating as she suddenly became aware of the intensity of the situation.

She ran over to Anarya. Avelina lightly gnawed at her lip as she tapped on the aasimar's shoulder.

"Um...is there something I can do to help?" Her voice was small, so small that it was almost unbelievable that this could be the same girl that was a few moments before shouting threats at a giantess.

Ellena felt no remorse about running the cultist through. She had offered a chance at redemption and it had been rejected flatly. The cultist had asked for a quick death with her actions, and Ellena was quick to grant her wish.

"If we heal them, let's do it quickly, and get out of here. I'd bet many others are all over the town," she whispered. "Strip their gear and leave them here."

Franti was oblivious to Karas' attack on the familiar. He got up to his feet, putting his saps away, checking his left-handed sap for any blood. The rogue wasn't hurt, but a heavy feeling crawled from his stomach, clawing up to his throat. He walked back to his bow, and slung it over his shoulders, doing the same for his backpack.

He didn't look to the paladin as he spoke aloud to her. "Not if. We can't leave them here for crows and monsters to feast on." He looked through his backpack, pulling out rations and walking to those that Anarya stabilized. To three of them he gave food, and to one he gave a waterskin. "We need to... to, to move them inside. Take their weapons if you like, but they all, um, they also deserve a chance to get out of here."

Franti took out his holy symbol and examined it. A carved wooden image of a snake on a branch. He looked at his personal engraving on the back, "Life is a joke. Laugh it off," and let out a weak, nervous giggle as his stare darted to the dead woman, before falling to his feet. His mouth curved a small, forced smile, but his brow twisted in worry.

Franti checked those alive for any belongings better left with the party. He didn't want to steal their chances of living, but Franti wanted out of this city. He didn't dare touch the summoner, and he tried to avoid looking at her as he bounced from cultist to cultist, snickering to himself between quick and heavy breathes.
