A link? I'm not sure how that works, this is a a physical copy. I've never used its reroll in a PbP before. I can just stick with the first roll if you'd prefer, I've survived this far.


I've noticed that the DC was supposed to be 10, so you made it.

Draklor is pushed backwards, but now the jello is standing in front of Ajaline.

Since it moved forward, the ooze should be in range. It'll be more difficult with his friends in the way, but Hal takes a shot. The ooze should be fully visible as well (within 20 feet). Hal then five foot steps to the southwest.

Attack, Point Blank, Deadly Aim: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

So am I in front of the ooze and behind Ajaline, or behind the ooze? If the former, I will move to the blue X after I attack. If the latter, the red X.

"Ajaline, run! You do not want to get close to that thing," Draklor meekly warns as he fires again.

"I agree." Ajaline steps away from the ooze. When he's several feet away he turns back and fires a stream of acid at the thing.

acid splash: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2


By that, Ajaline is moving away from being next to the ooze, which gets an aoo.

Slam: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16Dmg + acid: 1d4 - 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) - 2 + (5) = 7
Between traveling from the previous place and current, your AC is 16 again.
Ajaline gets to make a DC 18 fort roll or he is paralyzed for 3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 4) = 11 rounds.

The cube's actions depend on it, as Hal and Draklor won't kill it yet.

Not enough...

Ajaline winces as the ooze slams into him. The acid burns his skin severely and a numbness slowly washes over him. Within a few seconds he is frozen in place, unable to move.


Trying to take distance, Ajaline is hit by the jello, and becomes paralyzed.

Hal and Draklor shoots another two arrows at the jello, dealing another 7 dmg.

The jello (-17) moves into Ajaline's square, engulfing the elf.
Dmg + acid: 1d4 - 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) - 2 + (3) = 4

While Draklor is around a corner, Hal is able to see the skin of his comrade start to rapidly blister, as acid eats at it.

Ajaline is now pinned, and at risk of suffocating. But the latter will take some time, as holding breath can last con score x2.

Hal takes another shot (pretty much all I can do).

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Hal then moves, trying to not give the ooze too many targets too close together.


Another arrow enters the flan, and is stuck near the figure of Ajaline.

Ajaline, could you make a stabilize roll please. The ooze deals automatic dmg, but if you're not bleeding out, it gives the others more time to potentially (and hopefully) save you.

A wave of horror washes over Ajaline as the ooze rolls over and engulfs him. Acid burns painfully on his skin and he passes out.

Stabilize: 1d20 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 - 1 = 4

No luck... should I take the -1 dmg now or when my turn comes up?

Draklor moves as far back as he can before taking a shot, barely suppressing a scream.

Draklor's arrow suffers from cover, due to the narrow passage, and the dark now too, as Hal stepped away, with his own glowing bow.

The jello's internal pressure, along with the acid, does little good to Ajaline's health.

It would not hurt Ajaline, though there do exist monsters that have that particular side efect.

Hal moves back to where he can shoot the ooze, and takes another shot! If I could think of anything else to do, I would!

I used to like flan... :-)

The oozy acid finishes its job and dissolves Ajaline's body to a point beyond repair. Ajaline's soul, loosed from the bonds of his corporeal form, floats free of the ooze and gazes impassively on the mortal combat. He knows that moments ago he was there, but the importance and meaning of that life are fading quickly. Hosts of ancient elven ancestors materialize in ghostly form around Ajaline as the material plane continues to fade from view and memory. Elvish heros from legends encircle and greet Ajaline, flooding him with a sense of history and belonging that he never knew before. A jovial female elf dances through the throng in front of him singing a silly song. The beautiful elf plays a simple guitar while she prances through the crowd. Bells on her cloak jingle with each bouncy step. She approaches Ajaline with a grand smile on her face. "Welcome newcomer," she sings, "Won't you join me in my dance?" The last vestiges of Ajaline's physical life drop away and a grin splits his face. He takes the elf's hand and jumps into the dance. "I'd love to!"

Draklor runs behind Hal (two squares behind, if someone could move me) and takes another shot.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

Cube gets no aoo, since a hard corner cover.

Draklor bypasses Hal's position, and places another Arrow in the flan.
Arrows take no dmg penalties from negative strength, Draklor. :)
It is a close call, however.

Line of sight is a little difficult to tell on the map; if I five foot step do I still have line of sight for an attack? If so, then I will do that; if I don't have line of sight, then instead I will withdraw.

Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10


Withdraw to where? The action of the jello will depend on who's closest.

With what i said in discussion, i placed everyone where i think they were at that time. And we'll resume from there.

Hal shoots an Arrow for 8, it'll die next turn, unless Draklor and Hal botch their rolls with a natural 1.

Hal places the final verdict, and the membrane of the jello takes its final punishment. The arrow pops the exterior, and the interior slime slowly but steadily oozes out, until a mere puddle of disgusting slimy semi-liquid remains.

Draklor drops his bow and walks mechanically over to the ooze's remains, looking for any of Ajaline's. "We should get the others, bring them back to the Lodge, if we can, Hal." His voice is currently very dull and empty.

That will be beyond their budget, unfortunately.

Draklor finds the items Ajaline was carrying, of non organic making.

Scouting ahead, they find themselves resurfacing near the forest.
With the realization of the caves explored, as per instructed, the duo heads back.

Via a makeshift set of stretchers, Draklor and Hal brought back with them the bodies of their fallen comrades and that of Janira.

Per Hal's suggestion, you find the nearest temple.
Sadly, the cleric requires materials that are too expensive.

"We can, however, keep them here shortly, until you can make any arrangements."

---------Later at the lodge-----------

The venture captain looks up from a bunch of papers he's reading.
The master of scrolls is with him, as are a few other figures wearing a badge.

"Ah, the team returns.", as he sees the two step in.
"How went your,, he pauses, as only 2 of the six people step through the door.

The mood becomes serious, as he closes his eyes for a moment, before looking bat at Draklor and Hal.
"I will assume the worst. My sympathies."

The master of scrolls likewise sighs, his cheerful elven features now showing a hint of sadness.
"Mine as well, pathfinders. I will not inquire to what happened to them, it is likely too fresh for comfort.
May i instead ask you, what it is you found at the caverns?"

Hal gives a full report, detailing the encounters in the caves and the strange markings they had come across. He tells of his companion's valor and offers to essentially sell himself into servitude for a period of time to the temple until the cost of bringing them back would be paid off.

Draklor corroborates with Hal when necessary, such as about when he was unconscious, but he mostly stays quiet. "I do not believe that will be possible, Hal," he comments. "By the time you raised enough to cast such a spell, they would be too far gone for most of them to function. We can thusly only hope they find solace in the next life."

To Master Shaine he replies, "We found out that the gillmen valued the caves as a sacred site, and it may have something to do with Aroden or Absalom."


The interest of the man is peaked.

"Ah? That -is- indeed very interesting.
Have you made any copies of texts or images, for us to study?"

"We'll arrange a funeral for your comrades. I take it you've not left them out there for the scavengers."

Master of scrolls:
"I'll make arrangements for a team of senior agents to head there.
I think you'd be in need of peace of mind, for the time being."

The Venture captain nods.
"Despite under less than bright circumstances, we thank you for your work, pathfinders. You've earned some rest, dismissed."

Primary victory condition:
Identify at least 1 image, and fully explore the caves. [V]
Secondary condition: Meet 3 out of the following 5 goals.
