Can I take a drawback with no bonus trait for taking it? I'm thinking that this one would be thematic, but I know it could be more helpful than harmful in the first part especially. I'll elaborate if my statement is confusing in any way.

Dotraj here with Esodil the Tainted, Aberrant Tattooed Sorcerer. Crunch is done, and I have plenty of fluff in mind, but none down.

As it stands, most people would not sell to Esodil for a number of reasons, he's a monster, he's insane (don't worry, he'll play nice with others), etc. I plan on this being the only thing he needs to be "babysat" for, but are people okay with having to either go out and get stuff for him, or be with him when he shops to assure the owner it is ok to sell him that flask of acid? Or would people prefer I came up with a way people were willing to sell to him?

Also, since the GM seems to be having trouble keeping up with all of our questions, I'll mention that my above question still stand, just so it's easier to find.

Sovereign Court

Never got around to play RotR and the likelihood I'll ever play it the old pen and pencil face to face way is next to nil at this point.

Let me know if the campaign still has room and/or please put me on the waiting list if you lose some players.

Thanks!

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

@Dotraj- I'm going to have to say no to that drawback. Sorry.

@Purple Dragon Knight- There's still a week left in recruitment. Please feel free to apply!

Sovereign Court

Consider this my application then! :)

Based on your Turandarok Academy background idea, I will play a human, as I think it makes the most sense for an orphanage (the other races being longer lived, the age/timing of the incident would necessitate more thinking on my part... so human! :) )

The wrath tainted aspect is very original, and the fact that the children that ultimately form this party were all problem cases at the orphanage could perhaps lead to a deeper bond between the adventurers (they all got punished or were in detention together, and some would thus be like brothers and sisters at this point, others maintaining a 'I'm not like you guys' attitude, but basically all of them know each other well, regardless of how they feel towards the others... which I think is really cool!)

I like all classes at this point, so I'd really like to play something that's useful to the party i.e. whatever the party needs most. Whatever I choose in the end, I will be shooting for one of the Prestige Classes in "Paths of the Righteous" (conveniently some of those are martial classes, some of those bardic in nature, and others improve divine or arcane spellcasting... all of them are appropriate for Varisia too, it seems)

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

I don't have Paths of the Righteous... do you know if the PrCs in it are available on d20pfsrd, or the archives of Nethys? If so, could you please post (or PM me) a list of them?

As for what the party needs... well, there isn't a party yet so make what you want! off the top of my head, I don't think anyone has submitted any kind of scout... there's a bunch of melee (obviously) but I think there's only one each of full arcane, full divine, and ranged...

Sovereign Court

The book is brand new, and the PrCs don't come online until level 6 or 7. They're just really cool and each of them are tied to a Golarion god i.e. "must worship X" as one of the prerequisites. After I choose a class for levels 1-5 (based on the party needs) I'll let you know which PrC I'm shooting for.

Here's what I had in mind for a skald: Axel Hagerson.

Background:
Axel son of Hager son of Bragi son of Uffgard son of Delen Trollslayer. Bourn on the eve of the Swallowtail Festival, it was said his birth was marked by a shooting star. Whether or not there was any truth in the matter, Axel has always honoured Desna.

Axel's parents hailed from frigid north. They were traveling south for a wedding in X but never made it. Bandits ambushed their wagon train killing almost everyone and taking everything of value. Axel only survived because his mother stuffed him into a trunk filled with clothes and other junk. Varisian wanderers saw the smoke from the burnt out wagons and rescued Axel, taking him to Standpoint where he was taken in by the Turandarok Academy. He spent ten unhappy years there before being discharged to find his own way in the world. Of late he's been getting by doing manual labour for whoever needs it and by spinning tales in The Hagfish. On a good day he has a proper bed and a hot meal, on a bad day he sleeps under the stars with an empty belly. One day soon, he’s sure he’ll get a break and hit the big time, destiny awaits.

Appearance:
Tall and pale with eyes as blue as the sky, muscles like whipcord. His flaxen hair is longer than strictly necessary although his beard is closely cropped. There's an intensity to his bearing that draws the eye, and his deep and melodic voice commands attention. He has an old scar across his back, thanks to a youthful mishap.

Mannerisms & Personality:

Axel is an angry young man, although rather than flaring brightly, his anger tends towards a cold hard rage. He's something of an instigator, his words stirring the emotions of others. There's some indefinable quality about him somehow that makes him rise above, perhaps his birth was blessed by Desna and he is destined for greatness...

Anticipated play style & possible build direction:
I’m planning to play Axel like a reach cleric. Standard actions to buff or debuff, AOOs for damage.

Mechanically I suspect Aberrant Bloodline would be better than Destined (the 5’ reach is huge) but it doesn't fit the image I have for him.

He’ll pick up a bunch of support rage powers that hopefully folks will appreciate, e.g. Lesser Celestial Totem. Maybe savage dirty trick too. Too bad inspired rage can't gift rage abilities gained from Extra Rage Ability.

Ok I'll go with that:

Lawful Good human female Slayer of Ragathiel

(slayers are a mix of ranger and rogue, so she can stealth, track, climb, swim, etc. // going for the "Crimson Templar" PrC at level 7, which meshes well with slayers...)

Edit:

Traits: child of two peoples (race), reactionary (combat)

Another related idea might be to go Sacred Slayer of Ragathiel and pick up either the rage domain or the rage inquisition.

FangDragon wrote:

I'm not familiar with this class - which book is it in?

Sorry I missremembered the name of the archetype. It's Santified Slayer. I quite like that archetype and being able to have the rage domain or inquisition feels like a good thematic fit for this campaign.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Sanctified Slayer is an inquisitor archetype (not a slayer one, despite the name). I'm not sure it worth giving up full BAB to get the rage domain though in a game where you already have rage...

Sovereign Court

thanks FangDragon, but I'm going to avoid Inquisitors on this one... aiming for the stealth and scouting type of PC here... just posted her background and traits, but the Internetszzz ate my post (never hit Edit if you intend to take long...)

Ionela Morescu
Lawful Good human female Slayer of Ragathiel
Traits: child of two peoples (race), reactionary (combat)
Background:
- Apprenticed with dwarven locksmith in Sandpoint (disable device, craft locks; will take Trapfinding as level 2 slayer talent) - this helped channel her anger and got her away from fellow troublemaking teenage orphans (a relief for the headmaster)
- Learned that under most people's anger or outward hostility is a layer of good, and that patience is sometimes required to reach that layer.
- Learned that some people are however intentionally cruel or take real joy with the pain of others, and that those often preface their excuses with 'it's not against the law to do this'.
- Volunteered for Sandpoint's militia where she joined warriors on patrols; there she learned the bow, the sword and how to track game and bandits. A fellow warrior also taught her the ways of the General of Vengeance, Ragathiel, which she gladly made her own and quickly sought more about in the various stores, temples and libraries of Sandpoint.
Build: will be mostly strength based melee character (two-handed bastard sword, power attack, vital strike) with a composite strength bow for backup range capacity. Both the slayer class and the Crimson Templar PrC have the stacking Sneak Attack and Studied Target class features, so flanking will be a favored tactic.

My character will be pretty good at stealth but not great at perception and no trap breaking. She's likely better as a partner to the "real" scout in the party.

I admit that Josie is basically going for a mounted charger build but as a USummoner she'll still be handy for the entire party as a buffer and such and her eidolon can offer a little bit of skill backup if needed; which skills can be adjusted to suit party makeup if selected.

Hi.

Nate has commented to me personally that the Synthesist could be problematic, and thus offered the opportunity to change my submission.

As not doing so would probably end in me not being picked, I'm obviously going to change. having noticed the lack of ranged or caster mojo, I'm going to submit a ranged fighter (probably bow, though I'm weighing sling as well).

Will take me a pair of days to do the new crunch/fluff, though. Just saying it so you all know.

@Purple Dragon Knight: most people use this site for reference. You seem to be going out of the books, which is perfectly fine, but I thought I'd let you know in case related complications arose.

Another tip to get yourself picked, have all of your character in one post or an alias. It's pretty annoying if the GM has to sift through hundreds of posts to find all the information related to your character, and every little bit helps.

One more thing, the first post in this kind of thread is always the GM setting the scene and setting down character guidelines.

Good luck!

I've always wanted to try rise of the runelords, last DM had us build characters then bailed on it so I saw and desided why not try to be recruited. I took my character I had pre written up and edit it for this.

I'll post the fluff later.

I'd like to add Mordant to the list of candidates. He is a wizard with a great sword who is only now learning to control the rage that sometimes takes him. His Bloodrager Bloodine is Arcane. I hope he meets with your requirements. Please let me know if you have any comments or concerns.

It was not easy to build such a character but in the end I felt a pure arcane caster might be too important for the group to do without.

To be fair, you are actually the third full caster by my count.

@Taylor Coleman: where did you get all that money? Average for a magus is 175 gp, and none of your traits appear to grant extra money.

The arcane bloodline gives you arcanebond at first level that's why Masterwork ring. The trait signature moves gives a Masterwork item of no more then 900 gold to start off with. Also the average for a magus is 140.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Esodil The Tainted wrote:

Mordane is Skorn's alias... I think that makes him the second full arcane caster? Or, are you counting the oracle in that list?

My apologies. I had missed your entry Esodil. Certainly a sorcerer is a full caster.

I was almost not a full caster myself. I was so tempted to dip fighter and go Eldritch Knight for this build but in the end I could not justify giving up two caster levels.

@Taylor Coleman: Sorry about that, I forgot about arcane bond and assumed Signature Move didn't give any money because it seemed like an odd one to. And I just misremembered magus starting money, not that it really mattered overall... Yeah, I kind of screwed up there.

Yay! Someone noticed my submission! I'm pretty sure nate makes the third instance of people not seeing it XD. I even mentioned it in three separate posts! All's good though, I personally find it pretty funny.

And on a productive note, my scorpion familiar technically gets a feat due to gaining an intelligence score (normally mindless creatures can only have bonus feats, not any from hit dice). Can I choose that, or should it be something that would normally have helped a scorpion. Or do you not want to give it to him at all? From my understanding of tattoo familiar, it doesn't seem like he would have existed before becoming my familiar, which lends itself to me just getting to pick his feat.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

@Esodil- I certainly noticed your submission, that's why I said there was 1 full arcane caster when I answer PDK despite there not being one on the list Josie compiled for me, and why I asked (you) who the third caster was. Regarding a familiar feat, you can pick it yourself.

Thanks. I might be wrong, but there was one full arcane caster in the compiled list, I am one, and Mordane is as well.

Edit: Just checked, I have no idea where I got that, there were two in the compilation, but Markus was one, so there are three arcane casters, but one is a summoner, so you were right... I'm on a roll... in a bad way.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist...

Light on divine magics though. Makes me wish again I could submit my oracle, because I don't mind playing a heal dispenser if it means I get to play :p.

Hi, this is Jereru's new candidate, a shoanti fighter specialised in the longbow. I'll work on the fluff for, hopefully, tomorrow or monday.

Also, a question: when wearing a cestus, does the -2 penalty apply also to firing the bow? If so, I'll change it to a spiked gauntlet.

And the one divine caster we do have picked Inflict spells. :V

I can still use healing wands and scrolls, though, which is really all that matters in the end.

Sorry for being slow on the fluff

Axious Fiduciam Fluff:

As a child Axious was peaceful never would hurt a soul. That was until after The Incident. Even after being sedated he developed an anger problem. Wishing to be the peaceful person he was before he looked into ways to have the magic that was used to sedate him increase permanently to rid him of his anger problem. He came to no prevail in finding a way. He did whoever discovered that he was fairly magical attuned to the arcane arts. After leaving Turandarok Academy at the age of 18 he started hunting down criminals to be able to support him self. During his hunts he learned to suppress his anger in multiple ways, he would always concentrate on his his anger when he needed to by using the same level of concentration used to cast spells, he would then use that anger when he needed it the most during hunts. Axious is always hoping to be able to one day return to a peaceful life but till then he will use his anger for the greater good.

Oh, I like this.
1d3 ⇒ 2
Okay, I have an idea in mind now. Should have the build up soon.

Perhaps I'm overthinking this a little, but if we get SLAs usable 1/day based off our bloodline.... What happens to spells that have an expensive material component (I'm looking at you, Arcane Bloodline)? That seems slightly game-breaking should this game get to high levels.....

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

The AP should be completed by level 17-18... so there is a very high likelihood that nobody will ever get their final SLA. If we run into another, lower level, SLA that becomes problematic I may replace it with a different spell that doesn't have an expensive component (or may offer an alternative to restore some balance).

Okay. Cool. I'm just about done with my character (Human Warpriest of Nethys, Arcane bloodline), but I have one quick question:
How much can prestidigitation do in your games? Is it limited to purely the examples given, or are those more guidelines for similarly powered abilities (i.e. could I use it to light a candle, make faint noises or small motes of light, etc.) that don't really have a spell of their own?
Also, could I have her holy symbol actually be a mask? I feel like it would be really neat to have a holy warrior wearing the symbol of her god over her face, and channeling power through it. (I'd have the mask either way, it would just be cooler if it actually worked as a holy symbol.)

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

@Daedalus- I generally consider the examples in the description of prestidigitation to be just guidelines, however, your examples are terrible because it won't replicate other cantrips and you basically described spark, ghost sound, and dancing lights (you could maybe replicate a much weaker version of those spells but it would have to be much weaker). As for the holy symbol- you can have it worked onto a mask, sure; just pay for them separately.

Sovereign Court

I usually use Prestidigitation as an instant d-door for any human (or humanoid) waste generated within a fullplate or, in the aftermath of being victim to a fear spell, underpants!! :P

A good one is being clean no matter what you just went through. Slugging through a sewer? Clean! Raiding an otyugh den? Clean!

I'd also like to point out that my submission is still not finished, my fluff is still very much under way (noticed I was listed as completed)

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

@Purple Dragon Knight- I had a chance to look over that prestige class and I don't see any issues with you planning to enter it (if selected).

Hi. Added the fluff to Kejak's alias.

Okay, good to know.
I realize I gave some pretty terrible examples (I was tired at the time), but what I was thinking of:
lighting a candle in my hand after a full round of concentration (or somesuch)
the faint sound of bells (just barely audible)
barely-glowing tiny motes of dust (like fireflies, only smaller) that give off no appreciable light.
I likely would have gone with prestidigitation anyways (because really, what self-respecting worshiper of Nethys wouldn't have the most toolbox spell out there?), so thanks for the feedback.

On that note, Heldi is basically done. I might alter a bit of her fluff over the next few days, but her stats are practically finished.

It's not going to be an easy choice, for sure. When I first posted that I would pick 3-4 people I was honestly leaning towards 3 but I think I'm definitely going to end up doing 4 (it'll be hard enough to get it down to that point without dropping another one).
