If your weapon were ineffective due to DR, you could tell. You wouldn't know what sort of attacks bypass the creature's DR without a knowledge check.

The burrowing insect is about 15 feet from Shatter. The first giant bee is about 25 feet, and the second is further away (~55 feet.)

I had a readied action to attack the first enemy within 30ft, so i will take that. then I will attack it again on this turn, unless it is dead and in that case i will attack the first giant bee after shifting my focus.

Atsu rolls his eyes, draws back his terbutje, and rushes the insectoid.

The sand around the burrowing insect shakes, and a writhing mass emerges from the ground: a swarm of normal sized bees join the fray, ready to defend their queen.

Sword shock causes electricity to flow from items the target
is holding to the target’s hands. This electricity deals
1d4 points of damage per caster level (maximum 5d4). The
jolt also causes the creature to drop whatever it is holding,
which falls to the ground in the target’s square. A successful
Fortitude save reduces the damage by half and allows
the target to keep her grip on the item. If the target has
items in both hands, it risks losing both but does not suffer
any greater damage. If the target is not holding any items
(or has no hands) it still takes damage but of course cannot
drop anything.


The bee that started near you and the burrowing insect are close enough together, but the bee that Kiana and Atsu were chasing is still too far away to be covered by the same spell. The swarm is a swarm and hence is unaffected by any effect which targets a specific number of creatures.

Giant bee's fortitude: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Burrowing insect's fortitude: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
The bee, after recovering from being dazed and shocked, flies down to attack Viktor:

the below assumes that i can get an angle on one or more enemies without catching allies in my vision cone, having a move action to get in place as necessary.

Shatter steps up to stare down the enemies, and strange energy flows from his eyes.

Gaze from Beyond, DC 16 Will partial: Those that make the save are shaken for one round, while those that fail the save take damage from the disrupt pattern effect and are confused for one round.

Shatter's potent gaze does not seem to affect the insects at all.
Vermin are immune to mind-affecting effects.

The burrowing insect dives back underground, and a tremor of underground activity starts moving towards Shatter....
Atsu's turn.

"I don't have anything that can hurt a swarm of little ones like that," says Atsu. "I hope someone has alchemical fire or something of the sort."

He grunts and swings his terbutje again at the bee that he and Kiana have been facing off against.

Terbutje attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22 (includes +2 from psychic aura)
Terbutje damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 (includes +1 from psionic focus and +2 from psychic aura)

Huh, somehow I misread the ability and thought it did. It looks like I was looking at a different Insight's description.

The 3.5 Rules Compendium asserts that all fear effects are mind-affecting, which would render the vermin immune to being shaken if it were carried over into Pathfinder, but it doesn't look like it was. Weird.
In that case...
Bee swarm's will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Giant Bee that started near Shatter will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
The swarm of bees seems a bit shaken, but makes its way towards Shatter nonetheless, and surrounds him.
swarm damage: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9
Shatter should also make two fortitude saves, each at DC 13: one against poison, one against nausea.


Meanwhile, Atsu seriously injures the other bee to the point where it is having trouble keeping itself afloat, but it is still alive.

Sorry for the slow response.
Viktor will cast Summon Monster 1 and summon a Dog, then he'll try to get some space from the creatures since he's in so much pain.


You can't move more than five feet and summon in the same round, since SMI has a full-round casting time.
Also, Viktor needs to make another Fortitude save (DC 17) against the poison he incurred last round, or suffer 1d2 ⇒ 1 Constitution damage.
As Viktor casts, the bee that started near Shatter and the others dives towards Tawk:
sting: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Tawk should also make a Fortitude save (DC 17) against the bee's poison, or suffer 1d2 ⇒ 2 Constitution damage, and potentially more in subsequent rounds.

It is now Kiana's turn, and both Viktor and Tawk need to make saves.

SOrry all, I had said bot me if needed, life is just getting back to normal

Kiana fires at the already wounded bee she chased down here.


Viktor avoids being further weakened by the poison, but he is not completely cured yet. Meanwhile, Tawk's vitality begins to fade.
Kiana's first arrow wizzes past the bee, but her second flies deep into the insect's stomach, finally slaying the creature.

As the giant bee's life force ebbs, it drifts to the ground slowly...before its body abruptly explodes! A fine, emerald green powder erupts from where the bee was and spreads over a fifty foot radius. Everyone make a DC 20 reflex save or take 2d4 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5 damage from the blast. That's just from the blast: Touching the green powder doesn't have any immediate effect....

Now it is Shatter's turn.

Was Kiana within 50 ft? I thought they were farther away from the bee.


Kiana was not within 50 feet, but the shockwave of the bee exploding travels further than the green powder. How does that work? Well, you'll find out. Maybe.
