Kingmaker PbP

Hiya,

I'm going to start a new PbP on the boards in a few weeks time where I'll be running the Kingmaker campaign. I'm calling for expressions of interest from those interested in joining.

I'm an experienced DM and moderately experienced at PbP (as both player and DM). I ran a homebrew campaign here about a year ago which was going great guns until home life stepped in and caused me to get out of the boards for a while. I've learnt from that experience and this will be the only game I'll take on since it allows me to focus my time better and not interfere with real life.

I tend to write for a realisitic feel to my NPC's and like to build a consistant world. I'll be running Kingmaker in teh golarion setting but I will be tweaking things to suit my style of play and allow some GM freedom. Since Kingmaker is a sandbox game this facet is already built in to an extent but I wnated to let people know up front that I'm not an expert on Golarion Canon and will happily make details up to better suit our game and characters.

As this is an AP, I will be selecting characters with balance in mind as this is easier than having to adjust every encounter to fit the players. I appologise if this puts limits on players and it's not something I'd do for a home game, but given the nature of the AP's and PbP's this will allow me more time to run the game and that is a good thing.

Things available for you to use are - Golarion campaign setting, Pathfinder Core rules, Advanced Players Guide, Gamemaster guide. Any other stuff that Paizo has written for their game should be fine but let me know so I can try to read up on it. Third person stuff is off limits at the moment as I like to read about classes before I allow them and i don't own third party stuff. Having said tht, I'm pretty flexible as a DM and will work with players to grow a world, and that includes negotiating character stuff.

Posting times - I'll aim for at least one a day, and I'm hoping for the same from my players. If life interferes you need to let us know. I will GM NPC your character if needed so we don't end up waiting a week.

I enjoy narrative style so would ask that you post in third person rather than first person as it makes the "story" flow better when you read through it.

For applications just throw me a concept and a reason why your character wants to join an expedition to explore a frontier wilderness. Use the Players Guide for ideas and choose a trait from there if it helps. Don't worry about character creation until I've let you know you're in as it takes a long time for that sort of thing.

Characters will be first level

I'll be slecting five characters, and will recruit until I have five that I think will work (as both charcters and players).

Hope some of you out there find this appealing and are willing to give it a try.

Hey Wrath. As i stated elsewhere i'm italian and PF here is all but unknown yet, so i can't manage to start a rl group.
Never played pbp but would really try to give it a try ( the golarion setting greatly hooked me ) so i hope inexperience won't be a factor in your judgement ; my GMT+1 may be i'm afraid , anyway i can post many times/day starting from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm ( local time ) every day.
Already created some pc to see what this system can do for myself, wanna know them let me know.

As previously stated, I'm very interested in participating in this game. I don't have a full-fleshed concept yet, but I am looking at either a fighter or a rogue-fighter hybrid human.

I would like to go either for the Sword Scion or the Noble Born (Medvyed) trait. As for a leadership role, I am undecided, but the Fighter class lends itself best to general or warden. Spymaster would be interesting, too.

Neither experience nor time zones are going to be a problem as far as I'm concerned. I'm in Brisbane Australia so I post at GMT +10. I'm looking for one post a day and I understand there are times when this can't happen either. This certainly isn't going to be rolling out at teh rate of some of these recent games that seem to clock up 1000 posts in a month. I also reckon giving new players a shot is always good. If someone hadn't offered me a slot for my firs game then I wouldn't be here trying to run one hehe.

If you're still interested go ahead and post about one of your characters that you'd like to play. Just remember to give me some background info on why they'd like to be involved in a mission to scout and try to settle a frontier land at the bequest of the Swordlords.

If you haven't already done so, download the free players guide for kingmaker (from this site) and have a read through it to get a feel for what the campaign is like.

If you can put together a character concept I think will fit the game then I'll invite you in.

I have this character that I would love to play in a pbp Kingmaker or Serpent Skull. I just need to pick a Kingmaker trait. This character was made with a 20 point buy (typical in most pbp).

Ive never done pbp yet and my RL group has scattered due to RL scheduling difficulties this past year. We were in the middle of the first Kingmaker installment, but I can keep player knowledge out from character knowledge.

If you have Paizo's Gnome book, this character is from Umok and I'm a non-animal companion druid (Nature Bonded a domain). I have a rough sketch of his personality but would rather send it out to you in an email if thats at all possible.

I'd be interested. I've got a basic idea in mind so far. I'd play either a Ranger pursuing the ranged attack path or a fighter designed as an archer. I'm also kind of mulling over the possibility of multi-leveling him with a Rogue, but honestly it'd depend on how things go in the Adventure Path. He'd not want to take the King's role but would be happy to help serve a rightful ruler as a combat leader or advisor.

I'm thinking half-elf for the race; his viewpoint is that if he can't find a place in society to fit in, maybe he can help build a society that he can belong to. Sure, he's looking for the adventure of scouting out a new land, but it's the possibility of creating something he's never had before that drives him most: a home.

I still need to look at the Player's Guide to construct a few more details but I'll do that and provide a more fully-fleshed background.

I can definitely post once a day (and more if desired).

Hi Wrath, I'd also be interested. My character idea is a man who is part of a former aristocratic family exiled from Galt. For many years, his family has tried to establish a domain in the wild River Kingdoms. They had little success and, after many years, the family has mostly turn to petty banditry to survive. Due to a recent set back, my character finds himself in Restov, without any contact with his family. When he hears the call of the Swordlords for adventurers, he jumps on this opportunity, eager to be able to rule his own lands.

He could be a bard, cavalier or rogue, depending on what the group needs.

Hm.. I would like to take part.

My idea is male witch (hm, warlock would sound more better and equivalent but witch it is as it is said). He has grown in the dark forest and taken care by nearby Coven. He start to make his journey around the lands while looking for place which he can call his home plus to make better opinion of 'witches' and to show not all are necessarily' evil. He is quite.. odd in his own way and start to show affinity during his trips towards darkness and shadows.

He has always been more nocturnal person and is more sociable during night time but he is keen of people around him. Hard to appeal, but from time to time he can have fun and enjoy although he watches life usually from different point of view than others, but otherwise he is having great time with others. His familiar, an owl appeared during his first years in coven and been teaching him some of the skills, mostly related to world of darkness.

Wrath, Thanks for starting this campaign. I've got several characters already created for Kingmaker (Unfortunately I appear to be the Kiss of Death to PbP campaigns).

I would be interested in playing Darvus, a half-elf bard from New Steven (close to the River Kingdoms) who is a ardent follower of Cayden Cailean, having grown up in one of the Accidental God followers orphanages. Like so many of these orphans, he took the surname of the god as his own when he went out into the world, and takes a happy go lucky approach to his life, living it minute by minute. Alignment will be neutral good tending toward chaotic good and he is a drinker, carouser and generally cheerful pain in the ass of the uptight. Also a hell of a good hand with a long sword (and not to shabby with a bow).

Let me know if this interests you as a character. I dont have the players guide with me, so if you are interested, I will need to get back to you on the trait.

I would love to play!

My character concept is Majarian 'Mawj' Orlovsky, a female elf ranger. Originally from the elven clans that live in the woods south of the River Lands, Mawj worked as a trapper and guide for House Orlovsky for many years. Considered a valuable retainer, she was officially granted House affiliation in recognition of her service a little over a decade ago. Sadly, the Orlovsky scion under which she served was involved in a scandal with another man's wife. The resulting duel of honor left her without a liege and shunned by the rest of House Orlovsky for her association with the shamed nobleman. Turned bitter by their ostracism, Mawj has wandered the frontiers for several years, always returning to Brevoy to resupply and catch up on news and rumors. She is currently wandering aimlessly and looks for a challenge to help her find a purpose.

A few more details:

Anya Medyved is a young, spoiled scion of the nobility. She has petitioned her family to allow her to attend the Rostland academies of the Swordlords dozens of times, and has been rebuked at every turn. Numeroous reasons could be given: Gender, plenty of martially-inclined older brothers and her penchant for hurting herself by overstepping her bounds in even supposedly friendly excercise.

In social situations, she usually puts up a decent amount of civility, smalltalk and understated flirtation - but underneath this thin veneer her competitive streak can be glimpsed all too often. She's ill at ease without a goal, eyes always on the horizon and rarely towards home.

She was allowed to join an expedition into the Stolen Lands as a reward for previous good behaviour, as a means of getting her out of her family's hair and chiefly in the hope that first-hand frontier life would send her back within days.

I would like to play in this. My original concept for Kingmaker was a gnome "fey hunter" ranger, but it looks like there is already an abundance of rangers proposed. Perhaps I could recycle Alandra for this game. Of course I would need to convert her to PFRPG rules (I think she is still Beta) and regress her back to level 1, and adjust her background somewhat.

I'd certainly be interested in playing Kingmaker. I'm thinking a diplomatic character, probably a Cleric of Abadar.

Rimrock – Cleric (Alandra)
Vanulf Wulffsen - Rogue (Arianna)
Wander Weir – Witch (Arcane caster)
Great Nagai – open slot
Tanner Nielsen - Ranger

Some of these are chosen because I have history with the players and I know and like their style. (Rimrock and TerraNova)

I chose Vanulff because he's been working hard to get a game running for some time and I wanted to give him a shot. He writes well and his background for all his characters was extensive.

Wander Weir - I really like the witch as a character class concept. I liked your background and I was looking for an arcane type caster.

Tanner - I liked the concept for your ranger, and I've read your writing style on the boards.

Great Nagai - I'm keeping this slot open and extending my player base to six players because I wanted to give you a shot at a PbP. I realise there are others who've never had a go but you were first in and we had a chance to chat before others arrived. Check what the classes we have and see what you can come up with. At this stage we have a fairly balanced cast of players, so fitting in with something shouldn't be too hard.

To the others who've applied thanks for the interest and I appologise for not being able to include you. If I could a run a second game I would but time is a comodity I need to balance.

For those I've chosen, I'll get an OOC threa up soon and we can move across to that so we can flesh out characters and background.

Too late for this one I'm afraid. Nice concept but I have a full complement of six (one more than I origninally planned).

Keep trying though, games pop up al the time on these boards.

Also, check out a site called Mythweavers, it has games starting all the time and pathfinder is growing in popularity there constantly.
