Not trying to railroad actions but mammoth hunting is kinda plain, simple and boring after you get by the brutality.

You can retro anything you want to add to this set-up

Geraldo Smithsson, present and accounted for!

Did people get their goodiebags yet?

Was planning to use the prolog to give it to you.

male Human (Shoanti) 2nd level Fighter(Lore Warden)HP 16/19| AC 17 T 13 FF 14 | CMD 17 | F+4 R+3 W+0 | Init +5 | Perc +0 | SM -1

I think we have to post in gameplay to get the system to add us to the game. Anyone know for sure?

Yes that is the way it works.

I think I may postpone Nagual's intro if he doesn't post before noon. If so, then I will start Belor and Monty on their intro.

Male Human Witch (Scarred Witch Doctor) 2

Just added post - hope things are A-OK

Yep. Feel free to advance this thing as much as you want. If you want to cut straight to the meeting and decision then go ahead. No rush though.

Female Dhampir (Dayborn) Cleric 2

Checking in...

Given that we have two clerics I'll see if I can rework Izorshi's mechanics to have a different focus than Monty.

Also, I'm looking through others' backstories to see if there is anyone Izorshi might previously know...(I'll get back later about that. Any ideas?)

What direction do you want to end up going? More melee or magic or utility?

Ending the scene there.

Had two completely different sets of cookies to throw at you. I'm pretty happy you chose this package.

Congratulations you are now a nexus for spirits! Not a lot of bonuses for you yet but it will grow.

Right now you have 1+Con mod uses of Speak with Spirits:

Range personal
Target you
Duration 1 min./level

DESCRIPTION

You can ask questions of and receive answers from spirits, but the spell doesn't make them any more friendly than normal. It also allows you to see them.

You also have a companion. He is an old Mammoth Lord. Hasn't told you his name yet but he may prove useful. You can talk to him at night or deep underground. People without spirit sight can't see him and will think your crazy.

You may also pick up other spirits as the game progresses.

Belor and Monty are up!

If we keep this rolling we will have all of you meet up soon enough.

Male Human Witch (Scarred Witch Doctor) 2

Cool cool - quick question. is +1 Con mod a stat bump and Speak with Spirits a separate ability, a +1 Con mod to anything Con based (i.e. endurance checks), or +1 Con mod that is applied to Speak with Spirits.

I will treat my new buddy with the respect he deserved (or earns). :)

Can't wait to meet the rest of you.

No I mean that the number of times you can use the ability is 1+ your con.

so your con is a +4 so you get to use it 5 times a day.

male Human (Shoanti) 2nd level Fighter(Lore Warden)HP 16/19| AC 17 T 13 FF 14 | CMD 17 | F+4 R+3 W+0 | Init +5 | Perc +0 | SM -1

I'm about to go to sleep for a few hours before going to work. I should be able to post again in the gameplay thread in six or seven hours. If things are real quiet at work maybe sooner.

Not going to continuously throw $hit sandwich decisions at you. This prolog is about opening up your character so I wanted everyone to make at least one major decision that illustrated who they were.

I think I'm going to focus on utility and buff magic. Monty seems well suited for channel energy, so I think I'm not going to use it much...

I gave her the scroll scholar archetype, and a religion trait that boosts knowledge skills, so I think I'll go for a focus on skills and supporting spells.

OK Guys, you get covenant items! These items grow with you so treat em well.

Belor, currently your new Masterwork shield is acting as a Phylactery of Faithfulness.
http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Phylactery_of_Faithfulness
twice a day you can look into it and think it a question, if your reflection shakes his head then it's a bad one according to your god and may lead you out of your alignment or just into something really bad for you as a person. If it's really bad you may see a vision of what you will become in it.

Monty, you get the True Effigy to replace your holy symbol. You channel positive energy can now heal 1d3 of ability damage. You must specify before use what kind of ability damage. If your character does a whole lot of research he may even be able to apply this to advanced damages like Vile damage.

Bwa. Well now you get one to carry around ironically or better yet the power of your god allows you to use this specific shield.

Ok, while we get through the intro I would like to get some feedback. How are you liking the game so far? I know we are taking our time right now setting things up.

I have a way to cut to the chase but if your all still for the slow build up we can continue. I just want to make sure that you have fun and get some limelight.

also I tend to run more role-play and less roll-play. Is everyone ok with that? We can get more action if that's what you want.

I didn't pick up and run this game just for me (though I am having fun) I want to make sure everyone will be having fun

A GM who's having fun is the best way to ensure everyone else has, right?
Setting things up, creating the right mood/vibe, that's important. Take your time.
Just waiting for my moment, but I'm okay with waiting as long as I get to play :)

Well I since we are all running the intros independently I could set up other threads to handle the other intros so everyone gets a chance and doesn't have to wait too long.

Is everyone still on board?

Let me know if you want your intro now and what availability you have on weekends.

It would also be good to hear from people. I hope we didn't loose anyone during the transfer from the recruitment to the ooc.

Female Dhampir (Dayborn) Cleric 2

So far I am enjoying watching others' intros...

right now, the next couple weeks are likely to be my busiest in the year, so I am okay if the intros result in a delayed start.

I think a common issue with new pbps is that it takes awhile for everyone's character to take form, which in turn means it takes longer for people to be able to easily work in the party dynamics. I think doing one intro at a time will help with that, because we'll all get to see each others' characters before meeting, which could give us a quicker start once the full game begins.

Although I am fairly busy for the next couple weeks, I still have plenty of time to posts on the weekends, and will have a lot more time soon.

So...yea, I like the way this has started so far.

How much I can post depends on too many factors, heh.

I'll be working 6/7 the coming couple of weeks, with only one weekday off and working all weekends. Need to spend some time with wife and kids too.
But I'll still most likely be able to post morning and evening. If the glitchy internet at work doesn't breakdown, midday too.

No need to start a separate thread for me. I meant it when I said I was okay with waiting. Gm'ing can be stressing enough at the start of the game (well, that's my experience anyway).

male Human (Shoanti) 2nd level Fighter(Lore Warden)HP 16/19| AC 17 T 13 FF 14 | CMD 17 | F+4 R+3 W+0 | Init +5 | Perc +0 | SM -1

I think the pace is just going find in the introduction, but maybe everyone who hasn't yet posted in the gameplay thread should post a "dot" so that the game will be added to their campaign tab. It would make it easier for people to see when a new post appears.

Oh I apoligizes for not posting sooner, I misread the post and didn't realize the regent was waiting for a response.

male Human (Shoanti) 2nd level Fighter(Lore Warden)HP 16/19| AC 17 T 13 FF 14 | CMD 17 | F+4 R+3 W+0 | Init +5 | Perc +0 | SM -1

Monty, would you be intrested in fleshing this out, maybe deciding on the bare bones of it and then each of us writing our own version?

No Food in the Stacks:
Or …

How Belor Spearbreaker met Monty Hail; how they became friends; how they got banned from the library of the University of Magnimar for a month, and why students no longer bring food into the stacks of the library of the University of Magnimar (or indeed anywhere else in said library). How the two got banned for a year from the library of the Academae of Korvosa is an entirely different story.

In the end the two would agree it was the all the fault of Pavo Crispin, an eternal grad student of Chelarian descent, who despite being twice their age should have known better to bring his mistress, and a picnic basket into the rare books room...

Male Human HP 10/14

Belor you are a great writer and that sounds very interesting indeed. We can PM back and forth to flesh it out but I love the Pavo angle.

Male Human HP 10/14

@GM I find that this is going well and look forward to seeing it play out for everyone. This concept of creating back story prior to group play is very nice.

Feel freed to retroactively add in any thoughts or character moments you want to about your journey to the sewer. I kinda just threw up some bare-bones.

I also like the system of me rolling for you, and since Paizo makes it easy to be transparent about the rolls I figure most players won't feel too "screwed" if the rolls don't pan out.

If you want to do your own rolls then that's cool but just realize that it really slows the pace.

Body Casting

Here is a great way we can all get a better image of who each other character is. I know I have played games before where I said things like "Wait... Your a half-ling? Man, I forgot."

So lets all post our phisical descriptions, any links to art that may show the fort of image you are going for and cast an actor to play the live-action version of your character in a movie.

Example

Havel

Middle aged man, who stand an impressive 6'3", with broad shoulder. He wears simple robes and a chain with carvings hanging from it.

My actor for him would be Anthony Hopkins

Another idea for displaying personality would be to list what your characters theme song would be.

Male Human Witch (Scarred Witch Doctor) 2

SO far so good! I like the opportunity to flesh out my own character before we get into the thick of it. Also as a newbie to PbP - it gives me a chance to sharpen my writing.

I'm a post checking junkie during the day. I'll be around as much as needed.

Well...

Gerald's a remarkably unimpressive human of average height.
He's pale, thin and frail looking.
My profile picture suits him, even the clothing. He wears a simple scholar's robe in a boring shade that's somewhere between grey and brown and wear a simple white shirt and legging underneath it.

(The wizard school/library/very quiet and boring place he's attending is there simply because, well, wizards needed to be assigned a place, mostly so they'd be out of the way of what's important. The wizards there have a bit of knowledge, less power and even less support. The country simply cares far more about their soldiers and warhorses than they care about bunch of meddling old men talking about things they don't understand.)

Not quite sure about an actor. Certainly none of the hero types, but all of Hollywood's actors are kind of charismatic, no? That's their job... Gerald's very much average. If I have to name an actor, let's say, uhm, the lovechild of Macaulay Culkin and Adam Sandler when he's coming down with the flu?

Male Human Witch (Scarred Witch Doctor) 2

Nagual Shub-Khuul stands 5’9” tall – is wiry but not weak. His long black mane is braided several times with threads of white, grey, and black. These qualities, however, are almost entirely overshadowed by his prominent tattooing (covering his face, chest, and arms). Nagual is an ocean of multi-colored rippling inks. It seems that the only parts of his body that aren’t tattooed are the dozens of scars that cover his body. Flesh burns from countless battles with gangrene along with self-inflicted slashes make Nagual an intimidating sight indeed.

Also often wearing a pristine heavy bone helmet made from the carcass of a juvenile remorhaz.

An actor... Perhaps think Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex?

Male Human Witch (Scarred Witch Doctor) 2

GM - do you have an example of how combat will be handled? Curious and I would like to get ahead of the curve and not slow down our progress. And if possible, I would really like to do my own rolling. If it does slow us down however, I will gladly cede my dice bag to you :)

Combat dice really don't add extra posts because of how it's handled in rounds so you can keep doing those yourself. But knowledge check, spot checks and saves all can happen in the middle of a scene with nothing for you to do but post your roll and wait

Male Human Witch (Scarred Witch Doctor) 2

Oh, agreed. Please feel free to take care of passive skill check rolls

Can I offer a suggestion?
Something I've seen used in other PbP's where this has come up and it works great as a sort of compromise: Just In Case rolls.

It's really simple. Whenever anyone posts an IC post, in addition to whatever the character would normally do and roll, he posts a number (let's say, 3) of JiC rolls, like this: JiC: 1d20 ⇒ 31d20 ⇒ 161d20 ⇒ 6

That way, if combat comes up and the DM needs initiative scores, or someone needs to save vs something or a skill or whatever, the DM just uses one of those rolls.
The player's still responsible for their luck, but the game doesn't slow down while waiting for dice to be thrown. It does meant the GM needs to dig into charsheets sometimes, but if you put the most relevant scores in your title (like me or Belor) it's not that much of a hassle.
(Also, if players forget their rolls in their last IC, the DM always rolls instead. Using JiC's from previous posts can sometimes seem suspicious if they were really great rolls and the player 'accidentally' forgot to roll new ones.)

Anyhow, just mentioning it. I've no problem letting the GM roll, the dice system here is transparent enough and if you don't trust your DM, you might as well quit playing now.
But it's a system that works and fits with the 'don't touch my dice' and 'in control of my own luck/fate' tabletop feeling. So I thought I'd mention it.

Female Dhampir (Dayborn) Cleric 2

I prefer the GM rolling over the 'just in case' rolls...I don't see those adding much and they seem like one more thing to keep track of.

Anyways, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not very good at writing physical descriptions of characters...but I'll put something up later tonight if that's what we're doing.

For casting purposes I think of Belor looking like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as he appeared in the Scorpion King.

For casting purposes, think Bono's 'The Fly', at half the size, in full armor.

Physical description, by way of Stardard Village Entering Protocol (SVEP):

Arkivolld strode confidently into the tavern, the heels of his tall riding boots thunking satisfyingly on the floorplanks. Once inside, he paused, standing solidly with arms akimbo while he surveyed the room -- and waited for the eyes of onlookers to make their way down to him.

Those who met his gaze, three feet above the floor, would find the hint of a smirk on the gnome's lips, one eyebrow quirked expectantly. Artfully rugged stubble decorated the tiny knight's otherwise cherubic features, under a pompadour dyed a vaguely chipmunk-like pattern of purple and yellow, matching the striped coat of arms on his tabard.

Striding confidently to the bar, he unhooked his cloak and draped it over a stool with a practiced flourish before hopping (well, clambering) up onto the one next to it.

A mug of cider, if you would -- I recall it being excellent when I was last through -- and what were those delightful little pies you serve in these parts? Two of those.

Receiving his drink, Arkivolld spun around, leaning back to rest his elbows on the bar and see who might walk in next.

For casting purposes, think Bono's 'The Fly', at half the size, in full armor.

(Am trying to play up the combo of gnomish whimsy and order of the cockatrice attention-hound. Lemme know if you think it's off-key, but I'm tickled by the juxtaposition of a brightly colored fop cluelessly out of place in a dark-and-stormy AP.)

Rough Home spun jerkin with multiple pockets. Eye Glasses perched on nose, bottles and knick knacks hanging from hooks on his belt all secured.

Think Dwalin from Lord of the Rings including the actor, Graham McTavish who plays him would do very nicely.

Looks like we are coming to the end of this one.

Next up is Izorshi, and Gerald.

Then after that will be Doon and Arkivolld.

I may have you all level up to 2nd once our story gets going. Just depends on how far the other group is in their quest. Our timeline has to stay a bit ahead of theirs.
